BOB THE COMPUTER GUY & ASSOCIATES, INC. “Keeping You Safer In Your Digital World” In a world where technology dominates, everyone could use a hand when their technology device malfunctions. For over 20 years, Bob The Computer Guy has been that “helping hand” for many in the Tampa Bay area. We have become even more dependent on our computers and other information technology (IT) devices, especially since the start of the COVID-19

pandemic. Keeping these devices functioning properly and safely is key to keeping up with life’s daily pace. At times, our devices act quirky or slow down; they can even fall victim to cyber criminals. When this occurs, we need someone we trust to step in and bail us out. “It’s stressful when our devices stop working. We need them for everything; from showing up to workSee “BTCG” on page 16

Start The New Year Off Strong Every new year symbolically represents an opportunity for a new beginning—a chance to make changes or improvements from the previous year. A new year feels fresh, invigorating and like we’re being given a new chance to right wrongs, course correct, be more thankful, grow, and keep fighting to fulfill our dreams and goals. Every new year is also filled with new added pressure, anxiety, and high expectations to improve from one year to the next. We’re creatures of habit, and even if we don’t want to recognize it, we follow this pattern of setting goals for each new year that starts. And that’s a good thing depending on how you approach it. I had big dreams for 2020; none of them came true. In January, all my dreams and plans, not just for the rest of the year but for the rest of my life, seemed to have gone down the drain. Add the global pandemic, serious financial issues, losing thirteen relatives and close friends, and getting ill again from my two auto-immune conditions. I felt broken. I found myself all alone at home, crying myself to sleep every night for months. I thought I would raise a big family in that “forever home,” and I let depression and anxiety get the best of me at times. I struggled to balance work with my personal life, and I still do at times, not going to lie. But I tried my very best to count my blessings and reminded myself daily of all the positive things in my life, and that made all the difference. I bet you all had goals and plans for 2020 too. We all did the best we could under the circumstances, and this was a tough year to give ourselves some grace around our goals and dreams. I have had to remind myself regularly that I am just a human being, experiencing really tough human experiences, which are outside of my control. We may have the same plans for 2021 as we had for 2020, and that’s not bad at all. Life rarely goes according to plan, and we cannot let ourselves get discouraged or feel hopeless because things didn’t go exactly as we were expecting them to. Life is beautiful, but life is hard. There are lots of twists and turns and unexpected events. We need to act like arrows in 2021. Even though we get pulled back, it’s only to gain

impulse and be released forward with more strength and better aim. Whenever you feel you’re stuck in a tough situation and moving backward, don’t sweat it; take advantage of the impulse that will propel you ahead. Maybe you gained some “covid weight” this year, you fell behind in paying off your credit card debt, or you didn’t make enough progress on some work projects you planned. You’re going to be okay. No matter where you are now, start there. While beginning a new year will not magically make things easier or better; there are a few exercises you can do to transition into the new year with a more positive mindset. Try this: Write down everything you want to release or let go about 2020. What went wrong, what hurts you, what disappointed you... don’t let anyone read your answers. Once you’ve completed the list, either crumble it up, cut it all up, or throw it away in a fire. This exercise aims to release these tragic events, situations, and challenges to make room for a more positive 2021 start. Then set a timer for 15 minutes and write down everything positive that happened in 2020. Don’t edit your thinking; brainstorm. A few of my own examples are; most of my family and friends are healthy and well. I kept a somewhat stable job. I was able to lose over twenty pounds. I was able to meet a lot of wonderful people. Now, answer the following questions as honestly as possible; What do I want to stop doing in 2021? What do I want to start doing in 2021? And last but not least, what would make 2021 a more successful year? These exercises are a great way to release any challenges and negative energy in your life and at work, and it also helps you regroup and rethink your goals for the new year. Remember, neither you nor I can control all the events in our lives. We can only control how we react and how we respond. No matter what 2021 brings, remember to release the negative and focus on the positive. Just never, ever lose faith or hope. Until next time,

Gasparilla Postponed To April Amidst COVID19 Pandemic Carla M. Dubis Tedeschi. One of the biggest and most iconic annual events in the Tampa Bay Area is officially being pushed back a few months in 2021. Tampa pirates and booty chasers will have to wait a couple of months for the awaited Gasparilla celebrations. Imagine hundreds of thousands of people flocking to downtown Tampa in the middle of a global pandemic that’s already taken the lives of over a million and a half people worldwide… It doesn’t seem like such a smart idea. Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla and EventFest have decided to postpone the awaited Pirate Invasion and Gasparilla Parade out of an abundance of caution given the pandemic. Gasparilla festivities usually take place in January every year. In 2021, the infamous pirate invasion and parade were scheduled for January 30, 2021, but COVID19 has different plans for these events attracting large crowds. Event organizers have been working closely with healthcare providers and city leaders and came to the unanimous decision that postponing the event was the best option for the Tampa

Bay community, given the increasingly rising numbers of COVID-19 cases in the city. “We always had a plan B,” said Peter Lackman, Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla’s Captain. “We want to have a great event that people are comfortable coming out to and are out there to have a good time, and the size of the crowd won’t matter to them.” In a recent statement, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor called Ye Mystic Krewe and EventFest “Incredible partners.” Mayor Castor appreciates their commitment to keeping the Tampa Bay community safe. “Gasparilla is a cherished tradition—when

we come together, we want to ensure we do it the right way,” Castor added. “Safety is our most important responsibility. In the public interest of restricting events that bring large numbers of people to our community, we have made the difficult decision to postpone. We look forward to celebrating with our mateys safely and responsibly this April 2021,” Lackman added in his recent news release. No doubt postponing this event will affect not just the Gasparilla Krewes and thousands of visitors but also many local businesses that are already hurting.

We encourage Gasparilla fans to show their support for those unique local businesses by purchasing Gasparilla t-shirts, costumes, colorful beads, memorabilia, and other items, and be ready to celebrate when April 2021 rolls around. Tampa Bay can expect the Children’s Gasparilla event presented by Chick-Fil-A Tampa Bay on Saturday, April 10, 2021, and the Seminole Hard Rock Gasparilla Pirate Fest on Saturday, April 17, 2021. The closing event, Ye Mystic Krewe go Gasparilla’s Outbound Voyage, will take place on Friday, May 14, 2021.

Jazzercise Lutz: Fitness and Soreness

It’s a New Year and time to get on the Fitness train again and you aren’t looking forward to having pain. How many times have you been gung-ho to start a new workout routine only to feel like you’ve been hit by a ton of bricks on day two? Something as simple as walking down the stairs can feel like torture. Most of us have “been there, done that” when it comes to muscle soreness. Read on to learn what’s normal and what’s not when it comes to muscle soreness, and how to tell the difference between normal soreness and pain that requires time off. Many people confuse soreness with pain, but the two are very, very different. Soreness is more of a dull, slightly uncomfortable ache in your muscle, while pain is a very uncomfortable or sometimes sharp sensation in your bones

8 JANUARY 2021

or joints. While some muscle soreness is normal, pain is not. If you feel pain at any point during your workout, it is essential that you stop what you are doing.

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness Called DOMS for short, this is the soreness you’re probably the first week or two. It’s what you feel when you get out of bed the next morning after a tough workout. This type of muscle soreness begins 24 to 48 hours after your workout and actually indicates a natural adaptive process that the body uses after an intense exercise session. When you do a new or particularly challenging workout, your muscle fibers tear on a microscopic level. It takes time for your body to repair that muscle, which is why you may feel this type of lingering soreness for up to 72 hours after that hard workout. Sometimes,

you may even feel sorer on the second or third day after your tough workout than you did on the first. The good news? Once you get through this bout of soreness, that same activity shouldn’t make you that sore (or sore at all) because your muscles will have gotten stronger and will be better able to handle that particular challenge.

How to prevent it: For a long time, fitness professionals believed that stretching would prevent DOMS, but current research is mixed on that. Stretching is great for a myriad of reasons, and you should continue to stretch and properly cool down, which is also believed to help prevent DOMS. But when it comes to avoiding DOMS entirely, your best bet is

For Advertising Info 727-943-0551 I info@nnlflorida.com or visit tbnewsandlifestyles.com

to progress slowly and steadily into your exercise program so that your muscles are gradually challenged and can build over time. How to treat it: There are differing opinions and research on this topic, but a number of things may give you some relief from those post-workout muscle aches including massage, icing, gentle stretching, an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory. Unfortunately, nothing has concretely been proven to reduce how long the soreness lasts, but try a few of those things to get some relief.

What not to do: Don’t be a couch potato! Sure, your body needs rest, but performing active recovery, such as walking, biking or Jazzercise, is better than just sitting on your duff. Active recovery is beneficial after a hard workout—just a little bit of physical activity will help increase circulation which, in turn, helps speed muscle recovery. Just be sure to keep it at an intensity level where you can talk or sing and no more than 3-5 lb. weights are needed to get the results. You can gradually increase as your muscles get used to the workout. All aboard the Fitness Train, Whoo Whoo!

“Trinity Wealth”

- continued from page 1 learn as much as I could. I always found it to be frustrating and challenging that schools did not teach financial literacy in school. The will teach you algebra, where studies show only 5% will ever use, and yet 100% of us use money, and there is nothing. When I got into college while taking economics classes and learning how things move, I really caught the bug of investing. After the stock market crashed in 2008, I got even deeper into the industry and started learning things from a new perspective. I needed to share what I know and teach.” After years of working in high-pressure financial sales in Illinois, Adam decided he was going to create a company

that was as an alternative to the ‘big box’ firms he worked for and the antithesis of his past experience. “I always wanted a long term relationship built on trust, and some firms want a transactional relationship based on fees. I just

always believed that it’s the connection with the client that was the most important part of the interaction.” Relocating to Tampa with his wife and two daughters in 2015, Adam founded Trinity Wealth Management Group to give his customers

a completely different type of financial advising firm. “I didn’t like the aggressive, hard sales pitch that some of these other firms did. I always believed that the interaction with the client was the most important part, not necessarily what I sold them.”

Adam polled his existing clients to survey what they wanted in their ideal relationship with their financial planner. Their answer was good technology, fee transparency, and a Fiduciary—someone to look out for their best interest. “Our firm was built for the client by the client. They shared, we listened, and then we built it. I adopted the best technology available and the Fiduciary standard.” Based on that thought process, Adam obtained his Accredited Investment Fiduciary designation. “My clients wanted somebody legally bound to work in their best interest. It’s my job to find the most suitable investments without regard to compensation,” he said. “It’s never highpressure. It’s about teaching the clients. We want to empower them with the

right tools and knowledge to know what they own, why they own it, and how it makes in their longterm financial plan. We give our customers a level of confidence that they might not otherwise have when it comes to investment management and their retirement plan,” he said. “We built a new kind of Financial Planning firm built by for the client by the client. Adam explained that typically clients come to Trinity Wealth Management Group for three reasons. Their lack of knowledge, time, or, sometimes, the lack of desire to manage their investments. “My focus is one of both protection and service. I like to think that I got my business acumen from my father, also an entrepreneur, and the nurturing, caring, and protection side from my mother. Doing a great job for my clients is my first

priority, and having a good relationship with them is equally important.” In addition to founding his education-based financial planning firm, Adam is an instructor at the University of South Florida (USF) teaching retirement income planning. “I teach people how making small changes to their habits can make a difference in their overall life.” Adam explained that when many people ponder leveling the risk when diversifying their portfolio, they think about the amount of stock and bonds needed, not tax implications. “We pay close attention to and put a lot of focus on taxes,” he said. “Taxes will take more out of your portfolio than the markets ever will.” 401Ks and IRAs are both tax-deferred. Eventually, when the money comes out, so does the taxes. “We try to have a diversification from a tax standpoint. Approaching your investment from a tax perspective makes all the difference,” he explained. “You diversify your portfolio for risk and taxes.” Not only is Adam passionate about helping his financial planning clients, but he’s also equally as giving when helping his community.

Adam finds himself hosting events he calls, feel-good fundraisers. He’s shaved his head ten years in a row to raise money for St. Baldrick’s, a childhood cancer research foundation and supported Blessings in a Backpack, a childhood hunger eradication program that provides food in a backpack to children in need. Adam said what enjoys most about founding his financial planning company is simply helping people prepare for the future and retirement. “I always enjoyed teaching and coaching, so this is my passion and my purpose coming together.” To learn more about Trinity Wealth Management Group or to schedule an appointment (available via Zoom during Covid-19) with Adam and his team, visit https://www.trinitywmg. com. People share how they’ve been having problems with their computer; once we have an opportunity to analyze, diagnose, and resolve the issue, they tell us they never realized their computer could run so well.” Bob The Computer Guy & Associates, Inc. is a computer IT and cyber security company that provides onsite computer repairs, cyber security counseling, and more! They service everyone; whether it’s your residence or business. Since COVID-19, Bob quickly responded. He changed company policy to better keep his clients and staff safer throughout the pandemic. Most appointments now take place via remote session or drop off service. Surprisingly, Bob found that over 90 percent of repair calls could be performed remotely. “A misconception folks have is they think we are a computer store,” said Bob. “We’re not a retail store. Should you need to buy something, my staff can make recommendations and usually know where the best deals can be found.” “It’s not uncommon for new clients to tell us they did not know companies like ours existed,” said Bob. “And they’re so glad they found us.” Bob was captivated by computer technology in the late 1970s. In 1995 he launched his own computer business. In 2008 he accepted a position as the instructor for Computer and Information Technology with a Florida technical college. Bob enjoys sharing his knowledge with others who possess his passion and enthusiasm for technology. His love for technology inspired him to start writing his published column “Tech Talk,” where he shares decades of IT experience while also informing his readers how to keep their devices

running well and safe. “Tech Talk is very popular. A lot of clients tell me that they have followed the column from its first publication,” said Nikki, Client Communications Director. “Some clients even clip the columns and stick them on their refrigerators or file cabinets.” This past year Bob’s Tech Talk has had a larger focus on cyber security. When the COVID-19 pandemic first started Bob noticed that he was getting more calls from people believing that they might have been scammed; or wondering if they inadvertently done something that compromised the security of their device. “In early 2019 we launched a Cyber Security Division,” said Bob. “It has been a God-send for our clients’ peace of mind. We’re finding that more and more people are being proactive and taking responsibility to

secure their digital world. I am extremely proud of the relief we’ve been able to provide to clients during these difficult times. We now make available a vital service for the individual and small business that has only been in the reach of government agencies and large corporations.” Cyber crimes are on the rise even more now that everyone has turned to their technology. The criminals behind these scam e-mails, phone calls, and text messages will not hold back when it comes to exploiting any technology weaknesses you have overlooked. Bob and his cyber security team want to ensure that you do not fall prey to cyber criminals. Bob and his staff will help you implement the proper tools and will instruct you on “best practices” when navigating the internet and your digital world. SAT AND ACT IMPROVEMENT: WITH A TOP TUTOR IN THE U.S. success as “When you finish the exam, walk out of the room, and look back on all we have done … he simply wants you to say to yourself, ‘I have done the very best with the time and priorities that I had.’”; taking a three-part “Mental Break” when concentration starts to fade; and seeing an exam as their opportunity to show just how well they can do - which greatly reduces mental pressure so students can stay in their “high performance zones”.

The former Dean of a Graduate School of Business and Full Professor, Dr. Wayne Adams has created an exceptional and unique package that builds on his extensive experience including degrees and advanced studies at Harvard, Yale, Vanderbilt, Columbia International, and Luther Rice. A major reason for his outstanding results are the special techniques and learning skills developed over many

years. These include teaching students how to speed-read at 1,000+ words per minute; multiple memory aids to triple a student’s speed of learning and remembering vocabulary; reverse engineering that doubles “learning and retention speeds”; many additional math techniques such as “Quick Solve” to improve speed, reduce errors, and handle the “ultra-hard” questions; “bottom up” reading for key ideas and concepts; specialized reading strategies found in no reference books or other courses; and structured essay writing following his customized guideS. HIS STUDENTS NORMALLY IMPROVE 200-350 POINTS ON THE SAT TOTAL SUPERSCORE, AND 4 – 7 POINTS ON THE ACT COMPOSITE He believes that half of a student scoring well is mental. WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT HIS CLASSES STUDENTS “This is not the average, boring class. I will learn.” “I really liked the involvement in the sessions, rather than just teaching from a book.” “Learning the structure of the Essay

was great.” “When I started, I took a 25 question vocabulary test right away and got 5 out of 25 correct. After his intensive vocab “memory hooks” approach, I retook the test and got 23 correct. Wow! ” “I have never had a teacher who has so many creative and effective ways to help me learn. And I like the style of the classes, which are like college seminars taught by a full professor. ” “The time goes by so fast.” “We work. We learn. It’s worth it.”

PARENTS “You helped our daughter qualify as a National Merit Finalist and helped our family in college planning. Now she is a freshman at a “Top 25” school with a summer studying at Cambridge U in England. Thank you so much.” “When our son took your class as a ninth grader, his baseline scores on the SAT were around 700. When he took the exam, he scored 1100 and qualified for the Duke TIP Program. This score was higher than the average score for a senior.

Now he is a National Merit Finalist.” “Our daughter had scored a 14 on the ACT and needed an 18 to satisfy FCAT and graduate with her class. Thanks to you, she scored a 20 and graduated!” “Our daughter had an excellent GPA and high standing in her IB Program, but her SAT scores were around 1150. After your class, she scored over 1400. Thank you.” “We are so excited because our daughter just learned she was accepted for Early Admission to Princeton, and will be going in the fall.
