From The Publisher Matt Selby Depending on if the post office held off delivery for the full 3 days they are able, Valentine’s may have already came and gone but I don’t care. The holiday traditionally associated with love, has some in a romantic mood, and some scratching out their eyeballs. It has new lovers bursting with the opportunity to get corny with gestures, and those who might be hurt or bitter wishing the red hearts and cupids would just go away. I mean, I for one, kind of agree that it’s a sensationalized Hallmark holiday. In my opinion, we should be showing our significant other love and appreciation every day of the year. Valentine’s Day isn’t just for serious romance. It’s also a fun holiday for children who enjoy getting and receiving little notes of affection from their classmates, for parents and children to exchange sweets and handmade Valentines,
and for friends to remind each other how much they are valued. I always enjoyed those giddy moments in class as a kid, wondering if my crush would write me a note that she felt the same way as I did. Alas, that moment never really came for me. Let’s just say grade school helped me develop thick skin. Love is something to be celebrated, no matter who is giving it or receiving it. Love is something that we may struggle to define, and can be found in the most surprising places. The 2016 Valentines day was the hardest one I’ve ever endured. Not to get too personal but I had a dagger stabbed deep into my heart just days before last Valentine’s. I never thought I’d love again, then out of no where, I found the love of my life when I wasn’t expecting it. The funny thing is, she was right in front of me for years. We were both with the wrong people and didn’t realize it at the time. The timing

just wasn’t right. We are making up for lost time now and we’re happier than ever. I will make sure to treat her to a memorable Valentine’s day and I hope you enjoy a special day with your loved ones as well. If
you’re feeling like I was last year, take it from me, the right one will come along and all that heartache will be worth it. Happy Valentine’s day! Possibly a few days late.....

The Hyde Park Center for Aesthetic Dentistry:
Your Neighborhood Dentist! By Matt Selby The Hyde Park Center for Aesthetic Dentistry is a perfect embodiment of South Tampa charm. As you walk through the front doors, you could easily be walking into the living room of your own home. And that’s exactly how they want you to feel. Located within an elegantlystyled historic Hyde Park house, this dental practice provides a welcoming, homey atmosphere where patients can feel relaxed and at ease. Christine Grant, D.M.D., P.A., opened a practice of her very own in 1999 and has been at the same location, 1407 W Swann Ave., ever since. Located just a block from Hyde Park’s upscale shops and restaurants, her office is in such a central location that it is within walking distance for many of her patients. A native Floridian, Dr. Grant grew up in Sarasota, where she showed an early interest in the arts and sciences, studying classical piano and taking classes at the Ringling Museum of Art. After completing a Bachelors in Biology from Emory University, Dr. Grant went on to earn her Doctorate in Dental medicine from the University of Florida. She then furthered her training by getting her Certificate in Advanced Aesthetic General Dentistry from Baylor College of Dentistry in Texas. “I have known that I wanted to be a dentist since I was a little girl,” says Dr. Grant. “Several of my parent’s friends were dentists; they were mentors to me. I have always done very well in arts and sciences in school, and took art lessons at the Ringling Museum of Arts in Sarasota. My background in arts and sciences, combined with my manual dexterity, stemming from my training as a classical pianist, is the perfect combination. I still have my 3rd grade yearbook and in it I said I wanted to be a dentist when I grow up. I have never deviated. I love what I do and am very passionate about what I do.”

“My staff is well trained, well educated and well skilled,” says Dr. Grant. “They have a hard work ethic and are very personable with patients. They really go the extra mile to make patients feel wonderful. They greet them by their first name and take the time to really get to know them.” Function and aesthetics are two words that are used a lot at The Hyde Park Center for Aesthetic Dentistry. It is Dr. Grant’s goal to not only help you maintain a healthy set of teeth, but to also provide you with an attractive, aesthetically pleasing smile that radiates confidence and beauty. It really is incredible how having a healthy, beautiful smile can affect one’s confidence, and the difference it can really make in one’s life. “By restoring my patients’ mouths and giving them a beautiful smile I am able to help them to feel better not just physically, but emotionally as well.” Combining aesthetic and general dentistry to provide a holistic and comprehensive approach for pa-

tients of all ages, Dr. Grant’s care includes general dentistry procedures; porcelain veneers, crowns and implant restorations; Zoom! laser whitening treatment; Invisalign orthodontics; treatment for diseases of the gums; Velscope technology (oral cancer screening system); dental care for children; surgical procedures, such as extractions; partials and dentures; digital intra-oral photography; and nitrous oxide sedation and valium sedation. Dr. Grant is also certified in Botox Cosmetic and Juvederm Gel, which aids in removing wrinkles and folds to help enhance your smile. With her additional training in advanced cosmetic dentistry, and a specialized focus on mouth reconstruction, Dr. Grant is highly educated in the various facets of dentistry; from general check-ups to complete dental reconstruction, no job is too big or too small for the experienced hands of Dr. Grant. She is one of the top dental professionals in her field and in my opinion, her work on full mouth reconstruction or as she likes to refer to it as
“smile reconstruction,” really sets her a part from anyone in the area. As people age, their teeth get shorter, darker, chipped and crowded. Dr. Grant takes great pride in restoring both lower and upper teeth to their normal function and eye catching aesthetics! After our first article about Dr. Grant ran last year I decided, just like many of you, to trust my oral care with her. It was one of the best decisions of my life! The staff is amazing, Dr. Grant is amazing, the help they provide is amazing! I really can’t say enough. I allowed life to catch up to me and before I knew it, 5 years went by since the last time I saw the dental chair. I was a little embarrassed and of course I had multiple cavities. They never made me feel bad about it though. Dr. Grant and her staff just gave me the information I needed, filled those cavities and now I’m even doing Invisalign. I had braces as a kid but after about 15 years of never wearing my retainer, my teeth started crowding again. Sorry Mom and Dad…….

The Hyde Park Center for Aesthetic Dentistry is not only a prac-

dominant, vigorous and focused, or a feminine smile - soft, natural and youthful. You can even choose to have a “Hollywood” smile! In addition, Dr. Grant has her own lab ceramist, who, using advanced custom shading techniques, can perfectly match the color of your new teeth to the shade you most desire, giving you teeth that look natural and beautiful - like a true work of art! “Our goal is to give our patients ideal functionality and aesthetic appeal,” says Dr. Grant. “Both my husband and I are new patients of Dr. Grants,” writes one patient. “Since becoming patients, our entire lives have changed!” At The Hyde Park Center for Aesthetic Dentistry they understand you have different options for dentists in the area, but Dr. Grant’s practice is second to none! The individualized attention and quality customer service that you will receive here at their office is incredible. You are more than just a patient, you are part of the family –
and that is exactly how you will be treated, whether you are new to their practice or have been a patient for many years. Dr. Grant says, “This is a boutique style practice; we only see one patient at a time because I like to give each patient my undivided attention. We don’t ever want our patients to feel rushed, so even for basic dental check-ups, where most dentists will schedule their patients for only 30 minutes, we always schedule ours for an hour. We want them to feel special. We treat our patients like family. We are well known in the area; we have been here the longest. We are your neighborhood dentist.” The Hyde Park Center for Aesthetic Dentistry is located at 1407 West Swann Avenue in Tampa. They accept all major insurances. Office hours are Mon. Thurs. 7:30 a.m. - 5 :30 p.m. For additional information or to set an appointment please call (813) 251- 1548 or visit www.ChristineGrantDMD.com.

Shop Local Year Round! By Matt Selby
If you went out recently and supported a local business on “small business Saturday,” awesome! I hope you had a great
10
experience and I sincerely hope you continue to spend money locally as much as possible. So many of the great local businesses here in New Tampa deserve your support year round.
VOLUME 3 ISSUE FEBRUARY
Some people think shopping small ends up costing you more than a chain or big company but that’s not true. So many local business owners actually live in this community and are willing to make deals with their neighbors. Our main focus at Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles is to bring the
community something useful and informative while getting people excited about “buying local and shopping small!” When you shop small business you’re not helping a CEO buy a third vacation home. You are helping a little girl get dance lessons, a little boy get his team jersey, a mom or dad put food

on the table. A “mom and pop” business understands their customers are their shareholders and it’s those customers they strive to make happy. In today’s rough economy, small local businesses are closing their doors on a daily basis, while many big corporate businesses still have the investors and financial backing to pull through. There is nothing wrong with national companies by any means, but by spending our money in locally owned businesses we can help our local economy to flourish instead of decline. When we spend money locally, we contribute to the wellbeing of the entire community. Local businesses build strong vibrant towns, linking neighbors in a web of economic and social relationships. Local ownership
ensures that important decisions are made by people who live within the community and thus, will feel the impact of each decision they make directly. Many local businesses recycle excess revenue by giving back to the community in which they live and work; enriching the area and creating an even better place to live and love. Locally owned and operated businesses also create jobs and sometimes pay even better than the “big guys.” Competition is not a bad thing. A marketplace of many small businesses is the best way to ensure innovation and above all, low prices. For example, there are hundreds of restaurants within any given city, some of which operate right next to each other. This is necessary in a thriving economy. Can you imagine if there was only one type of each business in each

town? It would be a monopoly and the price of a monopolized product would be astronomical! Entrepreneurship is what fuels America’s economic innovation and prosperity and serves as a key means for families to move out of a
low paying job and into the middle and upper classes. By spending money locally, we are putting money directly back into the community; therefore supporting your family, your neighbors and your friends.
