FROM THE PUBLISHER MATT SELBY It’s not often I write the editorial. My Wife Carla is our Editor and does an amazing job engaging with our readers in all seven of our Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles editions peppered across Tampa Bay. It seems like everywhere we go, a reader recognizes her and compliments her on the job she’s doing. Her editorials tend to go deep. They resonate with the people of our community in ways I never imagined. Many of our readers even share a similar life story with Carla. I’m very thankful for her, and in the spirit of Thanksgiving, November’s most notable holiday, I wanted to use this space to talk a little about her. I don’t think very many of us actually spend Thanksgiving day giving thanks for the blessing of last years’ harvest like the holiday originally started out signifying. Although, if you’re like my Mom and have a live hydroponic garden growing in your house, you might. Anyway, back to Carla. We’re talking about a young woman who immigrated to this country with limited knowledge of the English Language at the age of 15. Many of you may share a similar background, and even if it wasn’t you personally who immigrated here, your parents, or grandparents most likely did. Probably not knowing the English language too well. Carla grew up in Venezuela; a country once known for being the richest democracy in all of South America, now on the brink of collapse due to

an economic crisis under a disastrous dictatorship. As a young girl she learned to speak Spanish, then Italian and finally English. I know what you’re thinking and you’re right; I can’t win an argument in three languages, lucky me! To be honest, in almost 3 years we’ve hardly had a disagreement. I’ll admit, she is right most of the time. “Happy wife, happy life” and all that. I’m picking up the Spanish language slowly, but after 30 years of only hearing and speaking English in my household, it’s not easy. I have a newfound respect for everyone who came to this country and learned our native language at any age, but especially in adulthood. Carla didn’t just learn the English language. She earned an impressive education. She first graduated with her Bachelors from the University of Tampa, and later a Masters in Education with a concentration in Instructional Technology and a minor in web design. This may be why she’s always right. I’ll be the first to tell you, she’s smarter than I’ll ever be, and I’m okay with that.

Sometimes her “accent” comes through in her editorial pieces, and that’s by design. I don’t try and fix it. Her true voice comes out in so much of her writing, hitting our readers “right in the feels” as some would say. We receive countless E-mails from readers on a weekly basis and Carla loves to interact with everyone. They become fun pen-pals I guess you could say. Both Carla and I are very thankful for the constructive criticism and support we’ve received through the years. I can’t tell you enough how thankful we are for all of our readers. It’s because of your support we’re able to do what we love. Thank you for welcoming us into your homes each and every month and for supporting the great local businesses we feature. Carla truly enjoys keeping you up to date with what’s going on in the community. We really appreciate when you take the time to send us feedback and content as well. Keep a lookout for Carla’s next editorial in December! I know she will have something good for you!

First of Its Kind Natural Cemetery Celebrates Two Years as New Welcome Center Breaks Ground Two years ago, the gates opened at Heartwood Preserve Conservation Cemetery, welcoming families who have lost a loved one, or those who simply enjoy the serenity of Florida’s woods, to walk its trails, find peace and community, and maybe select a final resting place. Heartwood Preserve is the first in the Tampa Bay region to design a conservation cemetery within a nature preserve. We conserve and permanently protect the endangered natural habitats found here by providing environmentally-friendly, green burial options. There are fewer than a

dozen such conservation burial grounds in the entire United States, though this burial practice has been around for over 3500 years.

The body is laid to rest directly in the grave, with no embalming, no concrete vault, no metal casket; only a pine box casket or shroud.

Cremated remains, or ‘ashes’, may also be buried. A portion of the burial fee goes toward the permanent protection of the natural

ecosystem. Heartwood is made up of both longleaf pine flatwoods and cypress wetlands. Because it borders the 18,000-acre Starkey Wilderness Park, the ecological value extends far beyond its own size. Yet it is easily accessible to the whole of the Tampa Bay area, in the booming suburban community of Trinity, in west Pasco County. Heartwood has regular activities that embrace the life of the nature preserve: monthly Talk & Tours, meditation walks, birding, walking trails. Families become a part of the Heartwood community, and a part of the forest after they die. What other place do you know has this?

This unique 41-acre nature preserve and conservation cemetery is located at 4100 Starkey Blvd. Trinity, FL 34655. Heartwood Preserve will host its second annual birthday open house on Saturday, The ground breaking ceremony took place on November 3, in conjunction with their birthday party. There was a Ground Breaking Ceremony for the construction of Heartwood Preserve’s Welcome Center. Designed by Sol Design Studio and constructed by ABI, Inc., this energy efficient building will house its offices, reception area and gathering space for celebrations of life and other small events.

Gregg Schindler State Farm Agency November Student Athletes of the Month Oliva Gray and Austin Erikson By Morgan Fliss

Olivia Gray, a senior at Mitchell High School, received November’s female Gregg Schindler State Farm Agency Student Athlete of the Month award for her immense passion and talent that she presents on the golf course. Gray went through a long road before she pursued her passion for golf and became team captain of the fall season’s girls’ golf team. “I actually suffered a concussion, [from soccer] which I played for 12 years prior. I got postconcussion syndrome, making the last half of my junior year a total nightmare. It was a really bad time, but then my grandpa introduced me to golf about a couple months after my concussion. I have been playing golf for 11 months now and I just really love the sport. It is the most difficult sport I have ever played, which is why it is so intriguing to me,” Gray said. As a first-year player, she lacked the experience that other team members possessed. Despite this setback, she still continually got the lowest score for her school, averaging a 53.4 this season. Girls’ golf coach, Mr. Troy Dillman, nominated Gray not only for her talent and consistently low scores, but for her amazing leadership and character she shows to the rest

She has truly embodied the direction and development of the team,” Dillman said. As Gray approaches the end of her senior year, she plans on attending the University of Tampa, and is considering what she wants to do in the future

of this sport. “I know I am not good enough to get into [golf]

now from high school, but I am hoping that after a couple

Austin Erickson’s (photo by Cate Miller) hard work and dedication helped the Mitchell H.S. boys swim team to an undefeated (10-0) record! of years of playing, I could probably be a walk-on by my junior year,” Gray said. Gray continues to put in hard work as the season comes to a close,

and looks forward to what the future has in store for her. The November Male Gregg Schindler State Farm Agency Student Athlete of the Month is

awarded to Mitchell swimmer, Austin Erickson. Erickson was nominated for his leadership skills and positivity that he shows to the team, and his perseverance through every setback in order to lead his team to victory. Coach Kelly Erickson describes all of the accomplishments and personal bests that he has pursued this year, as his third year on the team. “Austin recently won the 100-yard breaststroke at two championship meets, leading his team to its first win in JWMHS history at Conference and highest ever District finish for a Mitchell boy’s swim/dive

team. He also was part of the school record setting 400yard freestyle relay team. His placement at Conference in his two individual events and two relays earns his 1st Team SAC honors. Austin’s leadership and outstanding performance led the boys team to an undefeated 10-0 record in dual meets this season, and he has thus far been undefeated in the 100 breast all season long,” Coach Erickson said. Swimming is something that has been in the Erickson family for long time so it was just natural that he took up the competitive sport as well. “For me it just means something I can do to take my mind off of everything else and just focus on being good in training and practicing and it just feels great. I definitely look up to my teammates and people who have come before me, like record holders, because they put in as much hard work and sometimes more hard work than I have, and just to know that someone else has gone through it is really inspirational,” Erickson said. As a junior this year, Erickson continues to practice six out of seven days each week to get better and become even more of an integral part of the team. He has already set personal and team goals to aim for next year. Congratulations to these two talented athletes!

Tech Talk with Bob: STOP Before Repairing Your PC By Bob Dalles Imagine this. The computer you bought from that big box store seven months ago no longer works. No problem, it’s still under warranty. You call the manufacturer and get a return authorization from them. You pack and ship your computer to them. Today, two months later, you are finally getting it back from the manufacturer and cannot wait to turn it on. You turn it on and it boots right up into the desktop. You notice that your desktop doesn’t look the same way you had it before you sent it for repair. Upon further investigation you realize that some programs are missing, you cannot access your printer, and most importantly, all your pictures, videos, music and other data is nowhere to be found. Your computer works, but your personal stuff is gone. You call the manufacturer to ask about your data. Suddenly you find out that the only obligation they had

16 NOVEMBER 2018

to you under the warranty is that they would repair or replace your computer to the way it was the day you brought it home from the store and took it out of the box. The manufacturer has no liability when it comes to your data. You learn the hard way that your missing programs, data, etc. are your problem. Many people find themselves in this predicament every day. Fortunately, you won’t. Computers are viewed by many as being no different as they see coffee makers or any other electronic appliance. Electronic coffee makers use hardware and some type of software to make them function. However, the software that runs your coffee maker is not as sophisticated as the software that runs your computer. People typically do not differentiate between the hardware and software aspects of a computer system. The truth is, where the software in your coffee maker never changes, the software in your computer is

constantly changing. Especially your data files as you add and delete your music, pictures and other personal documents. All this information is stored on your computer’s hard disk drive (HDD). Your HDD stores all computer software information including your personal and unique computer information. This unique information is created over time as you use your computer system by adding programs, printers, data, etc. All these changes alter the contents of your HDD. When

you send your computer to the manufacturer for repair, your HDD may be physically replaced by having a new HDD installed into your computer or logically replaced by having all the information on the HDD erased and then rewritten with the information the HDD had on it when your computer was new out of the box. Think of it this way. If you ever had the battery in your car replaced, the first thing you probably learned when you got back into your car is that all your radio preset stations have been wiped out due to the battery being disconnected. The auto repair shop’s responsibility is not to restore your radio presets but to replace your car’s battery with a working one. You’ll just have to reprogram those preset stations all over again. The same is true of your computer. Important information can be lost during the repair. If it is your personal data, like rare photos, it may be

For Advertising Info 727-943-0551 I info@nnlflorida.com or visit tbnewsandlifestyles.com

impossible to replace. It is always your responsibility to make sure you have what you need to restore the programs and data you have added to your computer since you bought it. But no one ever tells you this until it is too late. So how do you minimize your data loss when you need your computer system repaired? The first thing you do is make certain that all your personal data is backed up. This can be difficult if your computer will not turn on. Even if your computer will not turn on, it may still be possible that your data can be extracted from the HDD before you send your computer off for repair. If you are not familiar with how to get your data backed up, contact a professional computer technician for help. The next thing you will need are the installation disk and/or files for any software you added to the computer after you bought it. Make sure you have all of your installation media and product keys so these items can be reinstalled with as little trouble as possible. A list of your email and website user names

and passwords are also going to need to be reentered the first time you try to access any of the secured websites you visit. If you are not sure if you have everything you need to recover all of the additions you made to your computer since you bought it, contact a professional computer technician to help you get all your ducks in a row. An hour or two of prevention will save you a lot of money and grief when your time comes to get your computer repaired. Especially if you rely on your computer for managing your business or investments. Have a tech question? Email it to TechTalk-TBNL@ BobTheComputerGuy.NET. Questions will be selected by the popularity of a topic and answered in this column. If you have a more urgent need or have a unique situation you may schedule an appointment with one of my Professionally Certified Technicians by calling 727-534-4000. Until next time, stay safe on the internet!

An Exceptional Homecoming for Exceptionl Students at J.W. Mitchell high School! By Ostina Myrtil

September 24-29, 2018 was Homecoming Week at J.W. Mitchell High School (JWMHS), and several events took place each day leading up to the Homecoming dance on Saturday night. Faculty members at JWMHS, Ms. Debbie Comito and Mr. Shawn Durand sponsor the Social Inclusion Club, also known as Ranch Hands. This club makes it possible to close the gap between the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) kids and “regular” high school students. As a result of Ranch Hands, students like Rickey Risser and Cayde Verkler were able to attend Mitchell’s “Out of This World” themed Homecoming dance on September 29, 2018. “We want them to have the same experiences as the high schoolers. In the

20 NOVEMBER 2018

back of the gym we had a totally low-key sensory area so that they had the option of going on the main dance floor or still participating in the area,” Comito said. Faculty and staff provided lights

and the students had their sensory equipment, so they could still participate but not be overwhelmed with the loud music and fog. “I went with my brothers and sister. We put on light bracelets and listened to

Finesse, the one with Cardi B. I like her,” Verkler said. Homecoming provides an opportunity for reconnecting with friends and having a good time. Branden Abdelshahid is a “regular” student that is

a Wrangler (class assistant) for Risser and Verkler’s third period class. Abdelshahid invited Risser, who prefers to be called Superman, to join him and his friends on the dance floor. “He needs to have fun; he’s very likable so I knew once he was there he would. He was able to create a mosh pit so he’s doing something right,” Abdelshahid said. A mosh pit is when a person is dancing great, causing people notice and form a circle around the person, cheering them on. With all the popular music playing at Homecoming, everyone was able enjoy themselves. “I like slow songs, but at the dance, I danced to fast songs with my friends. It was fun,” Risser said. Abdelshahid did not choose to be a Wrangler in the class, but found unexpected rewards once he was placed in

the class and he got to know the students. “It gives you a different perspective on life because they have limitations that we don’t experience, so when you see they have these limitations and you don’t, and that they have a fulfilled life, why should it be different with us?” Abdelshahid said. Ms. Comito and Mr. Durand plan to host more events like the Homecoming dance. In November, they plan for a Community Based Instruction (CBI) where they take their students off campus. Also in November, they will host a Special Olympics basketball skills for the approximately 45-50 students in the Ranch Hands club and 55 students in their ESE department. She has recently updated the salon, expanding the hair and shampooing areas to make room for 2 more new, professional, independent stylists. “I wanted to surround myself with like-minded, self-motivated stylists that had the same goals and dreams as me” she explained. “Our clients come first and customer service is our top

Best of Philly Cheesesteaks - Simply the BEST Philly Around!! Best of Philly Cheesesteak House boasts the best Philly cheesesteak sandwich around. If you love oooey-gooey-melty cheese, sizzled steak, or chicken, cooked to perfection and real deal hoagie rolls straight from Philadelphia – oh yeah, you know what I’m talking about – then you will absolutely love Best of Philly Cheesesteak House in New Port Richey. Located at the Woodgate Plaza on Seven Springs Boulevard, Best of Philly Cheesesteak House is a hit with everyone, from the single hungry guy or gal, to a huge group of family and friends – no appetite will be left unsatisfied! And the best part; they deliver! Known to the locals as a sandwich lovers’ dream, Best of Philly Cheesesteak House will be celebrating Thirteen years in business in November. For over a decade, Best of Philly Cheesesteak House has served the best-of-the-best to New Port Richey, East Lake and Trinity during which they have perfected their menu. From perfectly sizzled cheesesteaks smothered with gooey melted cheese, and 6-inch or 12-inch sub specials that make your mouth water, to the hot crispy wings, hand cut fries and spectacular appetizers––Best of Philly Cheesesteak House is sure to please the whole family. A HISTORY & UNDERSTANDING OF THE BEST OF PHILLY CHEESESTEAK HOUSE There are a lot of reasons to choose Best of Philly Cheesesteak House in New Port Richey – the great specials, the great food, the convenience of pick-up or delivery when you’re rushing around – but the best reason to eat at Best of Philly is that it is delicious!_ Best of Philly Cheesesteak House gives you the best in service, taste, flavor and portion size. Whether you want a traditional Philly, served like true Philadelphians eat them, or you want it made your own peculiar way, the quality is never lacking. Owners Mike and Debbie Natoli truly enjoy providing great food and service to their neighbors. Mike takes his cooking skills seriously, bringing

26 NOVEMBER 2018

original flavor and flair to his restaurant. He cooks what he loves and has visited the awardwinning cheesesteak eateries in Philly many times to compare his to theirs. Mike and Debbie provide the real deal, a bona fide cheesesteak just like the Philly masters serve it. The perfect Philly cheesesteak starts with a soft, delicious roll, and as any cheesesteak-lover knows, the roll is as important as the filling. The original Philly cheesesteak, as served in Philly, is either with or without onions. I like mine with mushrooms, peppers and onions. Mike says this is THE FLORIDA, so I guess it makes sense that it’s this Florida girl’s favorite! Add marinara sauce to The Florida and it’s THE SLOPPY. Other choices include: CHICKEN CHEESESTEAK, PIZZA CHEESESTEAK, and PEPPERONI PIZZA CHEESESTEAK. You can ask for extra cheese or sauce, extra meat, or to add bacon, salami or pepperoni. Choose from three kinds of cheese. Mike says most customers prefer white American, but provolone is available and Cheese Whiz for South Philly fans. Optional items you can add: mushrooms, hot peppers, green bell peppers, banana peppers, sweet_ peppers, lettuce, tomato._ So Much More to Explore! “People love our cheesesteaks so much that they rarely try anything else, but we have so many delicious choices on our menu,” says Mike. “I always try to encourage our regulars to try something new, but that is a hard battle to win once they have tasted our Philly!”_ Filling out the menu are a delicious variety of COLD HOAGIES (Italian, Ham & cheese, salami & cheese, turkey & cheese), HOT SANDWICHES (Meatball parmesan, grilled chicken, chicken parmesan, sausage & peppers, sausage & peppers parmesan, breaded fried chicken, breaded fried fish), and a delicious fresh veggie sub. CLUBS include: BLT sandwich, BLT club, turkey club, or ham club. Other favorites are the bone-in wings, boneless wings, burgers, fish & chips and breaded fried shrimp. In addition to the wings, hand-

cut fries and fried shrimp, there are many yummy SIDE ORDERS: whole deli pickle (can’t you feel that crisp crunch?), onion rings, fried mushrooms, mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, cordon bleu poppers, jalapeno poppers – hungry yet? – You can get a side salad, fried okra, macaroni & cheese bites, or a “tastykake.” One of my favorite treats at Best of Philly Cheesesteak House has to be what I call the “gone-in-a-minute” hand-cut fries. They are a perfect side for any club sandwich or burger, or just on their own with a side of gravy or hot cheese. Yes, gravy for your French fries is the ultimate comfort food! Pair those fries with any one of the delicious burgers,

hot sandwiches, cold subs or even a variety of appetizers and you’ve got yourself the perfect meal!_ “You really can’t beat our burgers either,” says Mike. “They are cut in half, stuffed in a soft amoroso roll and piled high with your favorite toppings!” BURGERS on the menu include old favorites hamburger and cheeseburger, but there also is a pizza burger, mushroom burger, bacon burger, sloppy burger, a loose meat burger and the newest edition, the “cheese lovers cheeseburger!” This new creation brought to you by Mike is filled with a delicious blend of White American, Provolone and Mozzarella Cheese melted to a gooey perfection! You can also get the cheesesteak version! I’ve

had both and they are absolutely incredible! It’s my new favorite next to the Florida! KIDS MENU items include a 4- inch cheesesteak, chicken fingers, grilled cheese, cheeseburger, hot dog and alltime-favorite macaroni & cheese bites. All kids’ meals come with kids’ fries or chips and Oreo cookies! Save Money with Cash Only Specials! I am always greeted with exceptional service and world-class cheese steaks. Arguably better than cheesesteaks I’ve had in Philly! Keep up the great quality and I look forward to my next visit!” Larry Vogel Jen Simon says, “BEST, BEST cheesesteaks aside from Philly itself! It’s like a little piece of home. I love coming here and getting to enjoy one of Mike’s originals! Always a pleasure and

excellent & fast service, thank you!” “I am a navy wife and lived in a lot of places, but this is the Best Philly Cheesesteak I have ever had!! The place was clean, workers where so nice!! The sides are 5 star too. You must try!!” – Lisa Rognlin Mike and Debbie are extremely happy with their business and give all the thanks to their awesome customers both old and new. Mike says, “We are so lucky to have such nice, wonderful customers. We love to catch up with each other, share laughs and have great conversation while I’m working behind the grill. I feel like the bartender of cheesesteaks because I have real, honest relationships with my guests. They have become my friends!” Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 11:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday. Don’t forget to order game day food for Saturday college football parties! therapist knows exactly what you need. The team of massage therapists all have a variety of massage techniques in their repertoire. As a result, the therapist can specifically tailor the treatment to you and attend to your body’s unique needs. For example, business owner Heather Davis focuses on medical massage. She has the modalities of neuromuscular work, post-surgical lymph drainage, trigger point therapy, and prenatal massage all at her disposal to treat her clients. This means you receive a variety of techniques, tailored to your needs, all in one session. Treatment sessions for massage range from 30 minutes ($35) to 2 hour sessions ($115). As a first time client, you will receive $15 off of your first full treatment. In addition, there are several special treatment sessions available. For example, try the 1 Hour Tai Mat Massage for only $70. In your Tai Mat Massage, you can experience healing on a whole new level with the stimulation and manipulation of energy lines called sen, broad and targeted acupressure, and assisted yoga poses. Or, the mother-to-be can get the 1 Hour Prenatal Massage for $75. This may be exactly what she needs to ease her aches and pains. And lastly, a popular and effective treatment is the 30 minute Lymph Drainage Massage for only $50. This technique clears out toxins and reduces inflammation

and swelling which allows a surgery patient to experience a smoother recovery. Tampa Bay’s Home for CBD Infused Massage For an additional charge of only $20, add the usage of their own specialty line of CBD (Cannabidiol) lotion to your massage session. Specially formulated from Colorado, this 500 mg full spectrum CBD lotion is remarkably healing. It may provide pain relief, reduce inflammation, can alleviate anxiety and depression, and may even mitigate cancer related symptoms such as nausea. It can also be beneficial to heart health and acne reduction, and may assist with the treatment of insomnia, epilepsy, and Parkinson’s disease. CBD is not psychoactive, and it will not trigger a positive result in a standard drug test. Special Body Treatments There are a number of body treatments to choose from at Renewal Day Spa of Trinity. One popular treatment to rejuvenate your skin is the 90 Minute Exfoliating Salt Scrub. In this treatment, salt is mixed with oils to replenish dry skin. Some salts, such as magnesium sulfate, contain minerals that can reduce inflammation. Other benefits include the removal of dead skin cells, maintaining bacteria-free skin, and encouraging the regeneration of new skin cells. Another body

treatment to enjoy is the 1 Hour Essential Oil Infused Reflexology. On each foot there are reportedly well over 7,000 nerve endings called reflexes that correspond to every organ and system within your body. By applying

finger pressure to these reflex points on the bottom of the foot, this ancient healing technique can provide overall well-being as well as break up nerve congestion and improve circulation. For the ultimate in luxury, experience the 30

Minute Coconut Cocoon. Deeply moisturizing, warm coconut oil is applied to the entire body along with your choice of essential oil. You are “cocooned” in a luxurious treatment of organic, unrefined coconut oil that not only soothes the skin, but also provides antiaging properties. During this time, you will receive facial acupressure, massage techniques, and a scalp massage. Also available at Renewal Day Spa is Cupping Therapy. With this ancient form of alternative medicine, a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. This creates a type of deep tissue massage and has several benefits. It helps to alleviate pain and inflammation while also increasing blood flow, relaxation and well-being. Facials With 9 different facials to choose from, there is the right technique available for all skin types. For example, if you have an issue with an excess of oil or acne with your skin, then the 1 Hour Acne/Deep Cleansing

Facial may be the right one for you. It is a clinical acne facial that removes oil and bacteria from the skin while treating superficial blemishes. If you are looking to restore youthfulness and smooth wrinkles, then the 1 Hour Oxygen Facial is the state-of-the art, specialized beauty technique for you. With this technique, your esthetician uses facial infusion serums appropriate to your skin type along with a stream of pure oxygen. Another state-of-the-art technique available that may interest you is the 1 Hour LED Light Therapy Facial for only $75. Your esthetician will choose which light therapy to use depending upon your skin’s needs. For aging and sun damaged skin, Red L.E.D. may be the most beneficial. To manage overactive, oily skin, Blue L.E.D. light may be best. Other Services An excellent teeth whitening service is hard to find. But at Renewal Day Spa of Trinity, a trained and certified specialist will whiten your teeth up to 10

shades in only 90 minutes! They use the strongest gel on the market along with a patented Blue LED laser light. With their current promotion, you can get this incredible service for only $99 (regularly $169)! Another hard to find service that Renewal Day Spa provides are eyelash extensions. This is done by attaching faux eyelashes to each natural eyelash with a medical grade adhesive. Just tired of mascara? Get eyelash and eyebrow tinting done instead. They also have two different hair removal systems. There is a full service wax bar available, and if the wax bar is not for you, try threading - the primary mode of hair removal in Asia for centuries.

years! The difference State Farm offers clients that many others don’t is an actual agent as the point of contact for clients instead of an 800 number to a call center to inquire about their insurance needs. That personal touch can mean the world of difference as circumstances arise when you need to file a claim or adjust your coverage as needs change. With his agency, you’re able to get the same person on the phone each time you call who knows your story and has a professional relationship with you. Clendon is listed as a Legion of Honor Qualifier-Crystal of Excellence, Chairman’s Circle and Ambassador Travel Club Qualifier. These are awarded to agents that meet higher than average benchmarks pertaining to customer service,

profitability and production. “Servicing our customers is the best part of our job,” he explained. “Being able to sit and listen to their needs and concerns means the world to us.” Listening, he said is key to serving his customers best. “We listen and then speak, putting the client’s needs before all others.” His team determines the best coverage for each client by taking the time to have a conversation and asking pertinent questions. This, he said, is the most crucial part of this business. While many agencies offer the possibility of getting a quote in 15 minutes, how can you know that coverage is right for you? Taking the time to personalize a custom plan for each client ensures that each customer truly has the plan that’s right for

them. According to Isaac Stuiso a representative at Clendon’s office, another advantage to having one insurance company cover all your needs, you only have to save one number to call to discuss your needs or file a claim. When you combine policies with one insurer, you typically receive the best overall pricing. If you think you need to own a home to carry

property insurance, think again. There are actually three very good reasons renters should obtain insurance coverage. Renters insurance protects the contents of your home due to loss from fire, theft, etc. Jewelry, electronics, furniture and more can be covered under the plans. “Most people have more stuff than they think,” he said. Liability coverage is also important for renters as

tenants can be held liable for injuries sustained to a guest while on the premises. “The most overlooked benefit of renters insurance is loss of use coverage,” he added. These plans provide renters payment for additional living expenses such as food and lodging expenses incurred as a result of a loss. “Let’s say there was a fire and you lost $1000 worth of stuff. You still need somewhere to live and now you have to buy $1000 worth of stuff on top of this additional living expense for your new residence. And you still have six months left on your lease. Our policy covers all of the above so you don’t have to.” If auto insurance is on your mind, State Farm offers an array of plans to meet those needs as well. Their Good Driving Discount offers savings for new households that do not have any violations or

at-fault accidents in the last three years. From there, you can continue to build on that discount level through three, six and ten year Accident Free Discount plans. And it gets even better! After five years of coverage, your first at-fault accident is forgiven. Having a teen driver in the house doesn’t have to break the bank. State Farm offers several discounts to help younger drivers obtain a reasonable premium on their insurance needs. The Good Student Discount is offered to teens that maintain a 3.0 grade point average. “Good grades really do pay!” he said. For drivers under 25, the Steer Clear Discount utilizes smart phone technology to guide drivers through a course designed to make them more aware of surroundings and what to watch for when driving a car on their own. For all drivers, State Farm offers the Drive Safe

and Save program. This smart phone application grades your specific risk exposure through six areas and provides you a custom discount ranging from 1% to as high as 50% off major coverage. State Farm offers discounts in many areas of auto, home and property insurance. They can explain different ways you can quality for these discount. While there is always someone you can meet with

or speak to over the phone, they also provide a “Get a Quote” section on the website. “Whether you’d rather walk in, call in or click in, we are here to help,” Clendon said.
