And the winner is… Amanda Moore!
Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles
The April issues of Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles publications featured an article about Amanda Moore, the most recent recipient of Trinity Family Physicians’ Tampa Bay Making A Difference Award. This inspiring 14year-old has raised well over $10,000 to help needy families in Pasco County. Working closely with Becky Bennett of Pasco Kids First, Amanda and her mom Amy sponsor needy families each year helping them to have a happy Christmas. Amanda has done all of this just by selling candy at

Lane Glo Bowling Alley on Old County Rd. 54 in New Port Richey. When I met Amanda and she said, “I don’t want people to just give money, I want them to really put their heart into it,” – I wanted to support her. I contacted the owner of Lane Glo to see if Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles could announce a night for people to meet Amanda and buy some candy and of course they agreed; Amanda and her mom are like family at Lane Glo. It was an accident that Amanda’s fundraiser on March 28th coincided with the YPG Chasco Fiesta Bowling Tournament, a fundraiser for the West Pasco Chamber’s Young Professionals Group and we want to give a big THANK YOU to them and Lane Glo for supporting Amanda, and to photographer J David for the photos here. Amanda raised $388 for Pasco Kids First. Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles’ pub-

Amanda with Becky Bennett of Pasco Kids First lishers Tim and Doreen Selby, and Matt Selby and his fiancé Carla stopped by with a monetary donation plus $200 in gift certificates to Best of Philly Cheesesteak House in New Port Richey to be shared with Pasco Kids First. I had planned to donate $40 but when someone came by selling 50/50 tickets, for some reason beyond my knowing, I handed over a $20 and said a little prayer since I’d sacrificed $20 of my donation. I gave the tickets to Amanda with high hopes... and she won! I like to think Amanda’s Guardian Angel was paying attention. It’s awesome when good things happen for good people!

Throughout the day on Friday, May 5th, San Jose will have fun giveaways for customers and a DJ to keep the party upbeat and exciting. With its festive ambiance and fresh authentic and delicious Mexican food, San Jose′ Mexican Restaurant is a fun and delicious place to enjoy dining for lunch or dinner anytime. Conveniently located just off of State Road 54 and east of the Suncoast Parkway at Northpointe Village in Lutz, and open seven days a week, San Jose′ Mexican Restaurant isn’t only fun on Cinco de Mayo; it is a great place to have a party for any occasion. Formerly Vallarta’s, but still under the same ownership – yes, Gustavo and his team are still there! – San Jose′ Mexican Restaurant features an outside seating area that can be rented for private parties (even on Friday and Saturday nights). The al fresco area seats about 40 people, accommodating diners who want to enjoy the outdoors. The San Jose′ servers are happy and attentive and the expansive menu is bursting with flavor and choices of delicious Mexican specialties and combination platters, as well as some American favorites. Get the party started with a San Jose′ margarita. Served frozen or on the rocks, margaritas are prepared with prime tequila and pair perfectly with the tasty Mexican specialties. There is a great selection of domestic beer and Mexican imports and a nice selection of wine and sangria. Fresh, Authentic & Delicious! San Jose′ portion sizes are generous and the prices affordable, making this restaurant a favorite dining spot of local families. Delicious house-made salsa is the perfect pairing for the house-made chips or better yet, tasty queso or guacamole made just the way you like it. San Jose′ classics such as quesadillas, burritos, enchiladas, tamales, tostadas and tacos are always popular, but there is truly something for every-

one in your party with plenty of pork, steak, chicken, seafood, and vegetarian dishes to choose from - or mix it up with one of the combination platters! Some great vegetarian options are the mushroom quesadilla with a side of guacamole and cheese enchiladas. Gustavo chooses only the freshest ingredients for San Jose’s kitchen, used to create their Mexican masterpieces like the Burrito Vallarta stuffed with shrimp and covered in a delicious green sauce or the Parrillada, a mixed grill of beef, chicken, pork, chorizo, and shrimp with tomatoes, peppers, and onions. The Coctel de Camarones appetizer is sure to get your meal off to the right start with plump, succulent shrimp marinated in a spicy, hot sauce with fresh avocados, tomatoes, onion, cilantro, and lime. And if you love traditional Mexican, order the Tacos al Pastor with seasoned pork, pico de gallo, salsa verde, and refried beans. Or try the Enchiladas stuffed with shrimp and covered with a ranchero and cheese sauce – yum! San Jose′ Mexican Restaurant serves flavorful food that satisfies your cravings without hurting your wallet. They have 24 lunch combo specials Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., and thirty combo specials available every day. Enjoy $1 tacos ALL DAY on Monday through Thursday, and happy hour is every day from 2 to 7 p.m. Scott K. says, “The dollar tacos are the way to go, chicken or beef, soft or hard. I thought I’d need a bunch of them but three was enough and four was too much. Very good quality and the staff is super friendly and service is great. Nice outside deck is great on the cooler days.” Rogelio S. says, “The margaritas are awesome, atmosphere is great and the customer service is outstanding! The tacos are delicious too! I would suggest anyone new to the area to swing by.” Laura M. enjoyed the food and music, “Great family restaurant, good food and affordable prices. Kevin and the team at Coastal Mattress are knowledgeable about their products and can help you select mattresses and bedding at any budget. These Customers Give Coastal Mattress 5 Stars! Sue Whatley’s review states, “This was one of the best experiences I’ve had with a large purchase. I originally went to Mattress Firm and they sold me bases that were not guaranteed. Kevin was the best to work with. I canceled the order with Mattress Firm and purchased them from Kevin. He is so professional,

(I’m 8 months pregnant). We went to Coastal Mattress with absolutely no knowledge on mattresses, and left with the PERFECT mattress (for us) picked out. We ended up going with a Tempurpedic- the Tempur-Flex line, and for the first night in months, I slept through the night. The purchase and delivery were seamless, and I can’t remember the last time sleep was so good. Very thankful that we had such a knowledgeable salesperson – it’s a big purchase, and the mattress world is pretty intimidating!” Patricia Dunn-Fierstein says, “I am so excited about the new Stearns and Foster bed I just purchased. I really needed a new bed, but I put it off because I hate to shop. The owner, Mr. Kevin Hoover, changed my attitude. He took the time to help me select the bed that was right for me. His store is beautiful and relaxing, with a big TV to keep the kids busy while the parents can browse in peace. I love that the store is privately owned by a nice young

Pete made an excellent recommendation for replacing a large tree that was giving us problems (which he pointed out would only get worse) with something entirely different that will be much more attractive and much easier to maintain. His crew arrived on time and they were very professional throughout. They even took extra time to show me a few tricks for maintaining the new trees. Frankly, for the price we paid, I was surprised at the size of the crew and the amount of equipment they brought, but the made short work of the entire project. Plus, they had to remove some curbing and plants to access the tree. When they were done, they replaced everything and you cannot tell they even disturbed those items. This is our third time using this company and we will definitely use them again. Pete did not know it was my birthday when they were here, but I could not have asked for a better present than to see how nice the project turned out!” Maintenance, trimming, repair, design, preventative care and professional skills - ALLPRO has it all! those problem areas just in time for swimsuit season! Cool Body Sculpting is for those individuals who have stubborn areas of fat that do not go away with diet or exercise. It’s typically recommended for people who are within 20-30 pounds of their ideal weight. It is not a weight loss solution and it’s not for the clinically obese. Once your ideal goal is achieved, a healthy regimen of diet and exercise is encouraged to maintain lasting results. Each session typically lasts 1-2 hours, depending on the area of the body being treated and the type of applicator used. After the treatment is complete and the device is removed, the area will be massaged to maximize results. This will feel similar to a deep tissue massage. Recovery time is minimal, and you should be able to return to your normal, daily routine immediately after your session. Most patients begin to notice results 4-6 weeks after the initial treatment, with full results after 12 weeks. More than one treatment may be necessary to achieve your desired results. care for anti-aging, resurfacing, vein treatments, tattoo removal and hair removal. By using leading edge laser equipment, she is able to get remarkable results in a short amount of time. Anti-Aging: Lasers have come to the forefront in anti-aging beauty treatments. Technology has made it possible to get fresh, younger-looking skin easily and with little discomfort. Laser care can undeniably correct many issues that we face with our aging skin. Laser works for dark spots, fine lines and wrinkles, scarring, spider veins, uneven skin tone and texture, and facial redness. The type of laser treatment you receive will depend on what needs you are addressing. Tattoo Removal: Getting a tattoo is meaningful, and sometimes proves to be a great decision. At the time, you are inspired to have art become a permanent image on your skin. For some this is a happy decision that they will cherish forever. For others, it’s a reminder of a time they’ve moved beyond. Maybe it’s that tribal armband that peeks out of every t-shirt you own, or the name of your previous lover emblazoned on your skin (no you didn’t!); whatever
the case may be, tattoo regret is all too common for many people. What if there was a way to make that mistake disappear from your skin altogether? LaserSpa of Tampa Bay can help erase unwanted tattoos and pigment with PicoSure, the most advanced laser treatment available for safe and effective tattoo removal. PicoSure targets unwanted ink more effectively than ever before, successfully removing difficult ink colors such as blue and green, as well as previously treated tattoos. Fewer treatments, improved recovery time, and faster results are achievable with PicoSure’s groundbreaking picosecond technology. The number of treatments you’ll need will depend on the age, size, and color(s) of your tattoo. The color of your skin, as well as how deep the tattoo pigment goes, will also affect the removal technique. Smaller tattoos will require fewer pulses while larger ones will need more to remove them. In either case, to completely get rid of a tattoo, it will take several treatments. After each visit, your tattoo should become progressively lighter.
Laser Hair Removal: LaserSpa of Tampa Bay uses only the finest lasers available to get the most safe, efficient and effective results for all of its treatments including hair removal. I can personally attest to the success of laser hair removal with Dr. Frangos. So far, I have had three treatments of laser hair removal from LaserSpa, and the results are definitely evident. Facial hair is something that I have hidden for years. It got to the point where I had to shave every day. Dr. Frangos made me feel at ease during each of my visits. After only three sessions, I see an amazing difference! LaserSpa of Tampa Bay uses toprated lasers for hair removal including the Lumenis® Lightsheer Diode Laser, Cutera™ XEO Yag Laser, and an option of Palomar’s Starlux™ 500 IPL for combination of hair removal and anti aging in one (for face only). The ability to select between three lasers for hair removal allows treatment all skin types, including dark and tanned skin. (Laser treatments may be ineffective on hair that is blond, red, white or grey. In these cases, electrolysis may be recommended.) Get yourself ready to rule the beach! LaserSpa of Tampa Bay has so many great options for beauty, and the woodsy backdrop and beautiful spa furnishings let you forget your busy life, so make that appointment and treat yourself to something you deserve. Edible Arrangements Has a Treat For You! By Kim Thomas Newly opened this year, Edible Arrangements celebrated its soft opening February 1st and has already made an impact in the community. Owners Ryan and Shannon Colbert are fast gaining popularity for Edible Arrangements Trinity with weekly Facebook contests for a FREE Edible Arrangement, and community and familyfriendly promotions. The recent Easter celebration was a big hit! Shannon created a fun photo opportunity that will forever be a great memory for the families who participated. She handmade decorations and an Easter backdrop for photos and arranged to bring in Flemish Giants. The kids loved interacting and posing with the rabbits, which are about four feet long. Even sweeter than the Flemish Giants were the 150 delicious samples of Edible Arrangements’ Fruit Smoothies, which Ryan, Shannon and their team gave out to guests. “The community has really turned out and are very supportive,” says Shannon. “Trinity as a whole is

Sydney Has a Sister Scholarship Foundation Giving recognition to children whose siblings suffer from Autism is the main goal of the Sydney Has a Sister Scholarship Foundation. The cost of a higher education is expensive and can be a burden to many families. Sydney Has a Sister recognizes the sacrifices students have to make for the benefit of their sibling with autism. All proceeds collected are awarded to college bound students who have supported their family and sibling(s) impacted by this condition. Some of the funds are also allocated for other good causes, like purchasing school supplies and holiday gifts for people impacted with autism. The non-profit organization, created by Ernie and Becky Black of Land O’ Lakes, started in 2013 when Becky, a career specialist at Sunlake High in Land O’ Lakes, went looking for scholarship money for her eldest daughter, Sydney. The Blacks have two lovely daughters, Sydney and Regan. Regan is autistic, and the sacrifices Sydney has made and the tribulations she has had to overcome, inspired her parents to form the Sydney Has a Sister

scholarship program. While researching scholarship opportunities, Becky discovered there were no options for kids like her daughter Sydney, a spunky, sweet, caring and extremely smart teen who had long embraced the role of sister, caregiver and best friend to Regan. So almost 5 years ago, in 2013, the Blacks created one. In the first two years of the foundation, the family raised an unbelievable amount of almost $45,000! After recruiting many volunteers to assist the several fund raising efforts and activities, the Blacks were able to award six $1,000 scholarships in 2014, fourteen in 2015, and twenty four in 2016. The funds were also used to buy classroom supplies for students with disabilities at Lake Myrtle Elementary in Land O’ Lakes, Weightman Middle School in Wesley Chapel and Wesley Chapel High School. But they did not stop there! Some of the funds were also used to acquire holiday gifts for adults with autism. The non-profit organization has had multiple successful events since

Technology With A Human Touch Most of us depend on computers and other IT devices every day. Occasionally these devices act quirky, slow down or completely breakdown. When this happens we need someone to help us solve our problem quickly. We want someone to give us reliable and courteous service, someone who will explain the problem without confusing “technology jargon.” Most of all, we need someone we can trust who will give us an honest assessment of our situation and charge a fair price to fix our problem. “We treat every customer like a friend and every computer as if it were our own,” said Bob Dalles, president of Bob The Computer Guy & Associates, Inc., a full-service computer and IT company dedicated to making every customer happy and completely satisfied. “We understand how stressful it can be when the technology we have come to rely on does not work,” Dalles said. “And then the additional stress of having to disconnect the computer, drag it into a repair shop, then wait days or weeks to get it back.
30
We make the repair process convenient because we come to the customer and perform our computer repairs onsite. It’s a major convenience that our customers love. They schedule a time for us to come to their home or office, and when we leave, their computers are fixed and their problems are solved.” Dalles’s company serves hundreds of customers in the Tampa Bay Area. Many are businesses but the rest are home users. “We especially enjoy working with individuals in their homes,” Dalles said. “They need tech help too, and are not always sure where to find service performed by professionally certified technicians. I feel that everyone needs and deserves access to professional quality computer help.” Associate-technician Christian, is very popular with senior citizens. “There are a lot of tech savvy seniors who rely on their computers every day. Some have commented to me that they really appreciate the way Christian takes his time to explain the repair to them, one customer even said she

“Taso Italiano” Continued from page 1 When my husband and I visited Taso Italiano, we were treated like old friends that were coming home for dinner. As we dined, I noticed that Taso spent time chatting with guests at another table. Their laughter and sounds of approval were evident from across the room, and added to the cheerful atmosphere. A few regulars came in and received big, happy hellos from the staff. One man came in and everyone knew him by name. They even had his drink on the table for him before he even sat down! Taso Italiano’s regulars’ come in as many as 3-4 times a week, never getting bored with the extensive menu. Deborah Van Den Langenbergh, seated at a table with some of her clients from her kitchen manufacturing company claimed, “This is a five star restaurant in our back yard. It’s like flying to NYC on a threehour flight, but it’s only 10 minutes.” She was eating the Linguine and Clams Bianco. Someone else was enjoying the Delmonico Steak del Giorno. He assured everyone it was the best Black Angus Reserve that money can buy. Taso admits that he is heavy-handed with his steak cuts. “It’s Taso, he’s always the best,” said Deborah. You can tell from the minute you walk through the door, how passionate Taso and Sabrina are about providing an exceptional dining experience for each of their guests. Taso grew up in the restaurant business and gained invaluable experience working at his father’s restaurant in Bayville, Long Island, where he learned both French and Northern Italian specialties and cooking techniques. Taso Italiano’s walls of exposed brick under Venetian plaster, are the perfect backdrop for the heirloom photographs from his father’s restaurant and the displays of kitchen tools that were used for many years in his family’s restaurant. While his dad was more of a front of the house showman, Taso liked to be behind the scenes making the magic happen in the kitchen. Like his father used to say, “Taso Italiano serves “ALL THE BEST!” Our Experience Was ALL THE BEST! I’ve heard great things about

Taso Italiano for quite a while now, but my dining experience went beyond what I had hoped for. I look forward to going back again and again. My husband and I started out with a couple of drinks and an appetizer (okay two appetizers!). Taso Italiano has a full liquor bar, and a really great list of specialty cocktails. I had the Paulie D. Martini, a refreshing libation made up of EFFEN Cucumber Vodka and St. Elder Natural Elderflower Liqueur shaken until ice cold, and served in a martini glass with a salted cayenne rim – fantastic! Taso also offers an excellent wine selection, and wine pairs perfectly with Italian Taso and Sabrina effortlessly treat their customers like family. food! The calamari was served and sauces are made fresh, in-house lightly fried and crispy with banana daily. Every single dish is made to peppers and then drizzled with order, with great attention given to roasted garlic, basil aioli sauce as well flavor and presentation. The bread is as a balsamic reduction. It was truly the best calamari that I’ve experienced and I’ve even enjoyed calamari in Greece. My husband said, “This salad is fresher than you can buy at the store.” Of course it is! Taso hand selects the produce. For dinner, I enjoyed the Veal Saltimbocca served with fresh pasta, comprised of tender veal in a sauce made of sherry, caramelized onions, shallots, and sage. My husband had his favorite, Chicken Florentine, and

even cleaned his plate with the last slice of bread left in our basket. We saved just enough room for a homemade cannoli – perfectly decadent just the way a cannoli should be. I look forward to returning and trying some tiramisu (also made inhouse), or maybe a slice of cheesecake from Junior’s out of Brooklyn, a place made famous by their delicious cheesecakes and desserts. I am recommending Taso Italiano to all of my friends and family. In fact, we have plans to pick up a pizza this weekend! Taso’s handmade pizzas are the best, with made-to-order crusts and the finest ingredients. Taso says, “Taso Italiano is for everyone. “Air Hawk” Continued from page 1 every customer is served with the goal to provide them with exceptional service and products at a competitive price that is always fair. Like his company, Joe is locally grown; he grew up in Pinellas and graduated from Clearwater High School in 1995. In ‘99, he’d decided on a trade and graduated from PTEC in 2000 and immediately went to work in the heating and cooling industry. Fast forward to 2014, and Joe and Carly, now with a young family, were ready to be the force behind their own company in order to build lasting relationships with customers. Air Hawk has not only grown with our community, but has grown with technology and advancements in the Heating & Cooling industry. “We are embracing the technology age for our clients,” says Joe. “We now have an app that allows customers to book appointments, map out where technicians are located and track the location of their service technician to better help them with knowing the time frame for repairs and service.” It’s often a hassle to schedule
your day around waiting for a repair company, especially with kids, a full time job, busy lives… Air Hawk’s new app, HouseCall, allows you to check in on your service technician, so you can gauge what time they’ll arrive at your home! It’s a great service that is new to the industry and allows you to go get your grocery shopping finished, grab lunch or run errands up until the repairman is ready to head over to your place. Convenient, right? Just go to Air Hawk’s app website to make your appointment where you can see in real time which appointments are available. The app allows users to see where a technician is because it is GPS-based for technicians––you also can direct message your technician from the app and see a photograph of your technician along with their name, so you’ll always know who is coming to work on your home! Air Hawk’s mission is to provide excellent service for residential and commercial properties throughout the Tampa Bay Area by a team that is knowledgeable, safe and professional. Running Air Hawk with two components always in mind – trustworthy service and a knowledgeable staff – Joe shares, “Our customers can trust
that I am sending the best team members to their homes and that the service crew has the knowledge to correct the problem. I promote education within my company, so all of our team members are N.A.T.E. (North American Technical Excellence) Certified and receive continuing education to ensure they are up to date on the latest advancements in the industry.” Air Hawk Heating & Cooling is a drug-free workplace and all employees must pass a background screening. Jimmy Yoates says, “Air Hawk was great! They had our AC changed out in just a few hours. Very professional and clean up was great. They didn’t leave any garbage or dust behind. They were very friendly and explained everything to us before
starting and again before they left. They are very professional.” Another happy customer, Stephen, says, “Hands down the best AC service company I’ve dealt with. Joe and his entire team are professional, knowledgeable and honest. Air Hawk comes out when they say they will, does the work, and if things aren’t right, they come back and make it right. I’ve dealt with many companies in the area that don’t show, don’t call back, and disappear when things go wrong. Joe and his team do the work at a fair price, and stand behind it to ensure the customer is happy. I happily recommend Air Hawk to anyone who needs AC work done.” Air Hawk Heating & Cooling

SCORE Pasco/Hernando Chapter––“For The Life of Your Business.” By Katie Thomas Small businesses and local support of those businesses is the strength and backbone of every community. The ultimate American dream is to own, run and make a profit with a business that you are passionate about and can grow into something to be proud of. Entrepreneurs looking to start their own businesses or small business owners who want advice on growing their business can gain much needed insight from members of SCORE, a nonprofit organization that provides free business mentoring, seminars and workshops on successfully starting and running your business. The PascoHernando Chapter of SCORE is very active, conducting 75 free seminars last year and actively recruiting more volunteers to meet the needs of a fast growing business community. Historically known as the Service Corps of Retired Executives, SCORE was formed in 1964 and throughout the 70s, Chapters were formed across the nation to accommodate, guide and assist business start-ups with priceless resources – for free. To date, SCORE has grown exponentially with over 350 Chapters and has served over 8.5 million clients. SCORE is run completely by volunteers with realworld, relevant experience – successfully retired business owners and CEOs (and some who are actively working) who have tackled many of the problems that come with growing a profitable business, mentors who’ve had leading roles in growing business through marketing, strategy and financial finesse. The Pasco Hernando Chapter of SCORE, Chapter 439, was founded fifteen years ago has approximately 32 volunteers.

SCORE conducts workshops and seminars every year that serve as a mechanism to mentor groups of people face-to-face in a setting that is exciting, inspiring, and helpful. Mike Lewis, chairman of Pasco Hernando SCORE, says, “Last year we conducted 75 seminars within Pasco/Hernando attracting 750 attendees. We utilize the seminars for people who want to start a business or who already own a business. Our seminars have been very successful throughout our community and have resulted in 1200 follow on

ducted within various libraries within the two counties.” Most seminars and courses are hosted at public libraries, Pasco County Smart Start Incubator and Rasmussen College. You can also find tools, templates and past courses online at www.pascohernando.score.org, where you can copy business plans, listen to podcasts and webinars, all for free! “The course structure will be how to use financial statements to manage and grow your business. Another topic will focus on marketing your business, both in print and social media,” says Mike. “We will also discuss how to increase revenues and profits through the use of selling skills and how to be more effective using personality selling, which essentially is how to identify with your customers. We will go over cost-effective health benefits for employees, how to lower medical insurance premium and the utilization of insurance.” Local Business Success Stories! Pasco Hernando SCORE has assisted many local business grow and reach success. A few of these businesses include: Dunkin’ Donuts of Crystal Beach, Oasis Coffee Spot in Pasco, Premier Hospitality Sourcing, Byblos Cafe, UAS (United Agricultural Services of America), Monica’s Gourmet Cookies and numerous more. Oasis Coffee Spot owner Gerald says, “SCORE was involved from the early planning through its opening and operations. So far, over fifty mentoring sessions have been conducted involving business plan development, cost
case development, task identification and prioritization, and project management. SCORE is viewed as an integral member of the Oasis team.” Our local Chapter of SCORE is a Platinum Chapter and last year alone they mentored 1200 people, many of whom have opened and gained success in their start-ups or existing businesses––impressive for a small group of volunteers! Get a Mentor or Become a Mentor! Having a team of experts who have become leaders in their industries is exactly what you get when you sign up for mentoring with SCORE. From the basics of business to the complete breakdown of making it through the first year of a fledgling business, SCORE mentors offer invaluable help for free. SCORE continually seeks volunteers and new members to mentor local business owners. Mike says, “We are always looking for volunteers whether you’re still in business and/or retired. We need your expertise in various aspects of business: financial, banking, selling, marketing. We have opportunities for volunteers that cover all aspects of business. Volunteers help
lead workshops and seminars, provide online coaching from home or office, and help existing businesses become more effective.” Volunteers enjoy flexibility, choosing how much time they want to devote to giving back to the business community. Realizing that they all started somewhere and along the journey there was help, SCORE volunteers feel great about sharing their knowledge and supporting the local business community. SCORE’s mission is to help small businesses get started, grow revenue and profit, hire more employees, and build our economy. The stronger our small businesses are here in America, the stronger our economy is...simply put, SCORE is here to help us grow together as a community.
