There is no such thing as a typical day for Dr. David DiPiazza. A skilled surgeon and expert urologist, Dr. DiPiazza sees a lot of patients with a wide range of issues from vaginal prolapse and urinary leaking in women to prostate problems for men, people suffering from embarrassing urological issues such as difficulty urinating or too frequent urination, and curing urologic oncology patients who have been diagnosed with anything from kidney cancer, bladder cancer or prostate cancer. Thanks to his diverse medical training and expertise, Dr. DiPiazza is able to successfully treat men and women suffering from these health

issues and is often referred to as the “surgeon’s surgeon” because he gets so many referrals from gynecologist and oncologist in the area as well as local doctors who turn to him when they need urology or robotic surgery. “I am able to take care of all kinds of problems through medicine and surgery,” said Dr. DiPiazza. “I try to figure out what is wrong and solve the problem as quickly as possible without needing a lot of additional testing or therapy. Thursdays are my most rewarding day because it is the day I go to the hospital to perform surgeries. In one day I might cure a patient with prostate cancer, save a kidney that has developed a cancer and repair a woman’s pelvic organ

Walking along the pathways of the Heartwood Preserve, you’ll find a completely natural landscape. It’s far enough from major roadways that, if you are quiet and still, you hear nothing but the sounds of nature. Open to the public, Heartwood Preserve offers walking trails, birdwatching opportunities and tranquility. Much more than that, Heartwood Preserve contains one of only two conservation cemeteries in Florida. For many, the idea of a completely green burial is appealing. There is no embalming and caskets are simple and perishable. Everything is completely organic and returns to the

earth naturally. Choosing a green burial at Heartwood Preserve enables your loved one to nourish nature, rather than occupy space in a conventional cemetery. Located in Trinity, on Starkey Boulevard, Heartwood Preserve Conservation Cemetery opened in early November 2016. It was founded by Laura Starkey, who is carrying on a family legacy. Laura’s paternal grandfather, Jay B. Starkey, Sr. pioneered the family’s conservation efforts when he donated and sold a majority of the family’s ranch to create what is now the Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Preserve. The 18,000-acre conservation park lies on the border of

Tech Talk with Bob: WiFi Part 3 By Bob Dalles

Greetings! Last time we talked about Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) using different methods to communicate. The most common Wi-Fi your computer uses today utilizes radio signals. There have been many types of Wi-Fi standards developed by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The IEEE standard for Wi-Fi radio signals is known as the 802.11 standard. Unless you are a professional computer technician, the three main characteristics of each of the different 802.11 standards you really need to know is: the data transmission speed, the distance or range the signal can travel, and the radio frequency each standard uses. The first standard is 802.11a which transmits at a speed of 54 Megabits Per Second (Mbps); with a range of 150 feet; and uses the 5 Gigahertz (GHz) frequency. The next standard is 802.11b

6

which transmits at a speed of 11 Mbps; with a range of 300 feet; and uses the 2.4 GHz frequency. Notice the 802.11b standard cut the speed way down from 54Mbps to 11Mbps but it does double the range from 150 feet to 300 feet. These standards are not compatible with each other because 802.11a uses the 5 GHz frequency and 802.11b uses the 2.4 GHz frequency.

For Ad Info 727-943-0551 • info@NNLFlorida.com

The next standard is 802.11g which transmits at a speed of 54 Mbps; with a range of 300 feet; and uses the 2.4 GHz frequency. 802.11g gave us the back 54 Mbps speed plus the range of 300 feet. We got the best of both 802.11a and 802.11b. The other great thing about 802.11g is since it uses the 2.4 GHz frequency it is backward compatible with the 802.11b standard which also uses the 2.4 GHz frequency. So if you had computers using 802.11b they could also communicate with 802.11g computers. That way when 802.11g was introduced you could use it with your existing 802.11b computers which gave you the flexibility of upgrading your existing 802.11b equipment to 802.11g when it was financially feasible to do so. Remember, every time a new standard was introduced its price increased. So if you had only a few computers, the cost of upgrading from 802.11b to 802.11g wasn’t

APRIL 2018

too bad. However if you were a small company with dozens or even hundreds of computers the financial hit to upgrade was pretty substantial. Is your head spinning yet? There are so many acronyms to remember and the details of each standard can be overwhelming. Don’t drive yourself crazy. All you need to remember are the three basic characteristics for each standard: speed, range, and frequency. Next time we will cover more of the 802.11 Wi-Fi standards. Have a tech question? Email it to TechTalkTBNL@BobTheComputerGuy.NE T. Questions will be selected by the popularity of a topic and answered in this column. If you have a more urgent need or have a unique situation you may schedule an appointment with one of my Professionally Certified Technicians by calling 727-5344000. Dean Haran, CPA: For your Business and Personal Accounting Needs By Deborah Bostok-Kelley

At tax season, CPA Dean Haran is busy bringing welcome relief to worried taxpayers. His website states that he “We work round-the-clock and seven days a week, to ensure the taxpayer’s problem is resolved, and that you are getting the exceptional help.” With 35 years accounting experience specializing in small business and personal tax preparation, Dean not only provides tax preparation service, but aids the family on the next steps. “I don’t just do my clients’ taxes. I teach them how to save for the future and will educate them about how they can save money on next year’s taxes and plan for financial success,” he

said. A graduate of Annamalai University, India, with a MS Accounting and an MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management, Dean began his career as a staff accountant in CPA firms and moved into public accounting. He worked as a budget and planning manager for Fortune 500 companies. “I am good in math and wanted to be an accountant from my childhood. I worked in a Fortune 500 company as a senior financial analyst, but I am more interested in tax preparation than financial planning. My friends encouraged me to start my own business and gave me their business accounting.” Dean opened his practice in December 2006, but most of his

clients send in their details via email. Dean will also go to the client’s business to provide assistance. In addition to tax preparation, Dean also provides accounting, financial planning, payroll, financial statement preparation, tax planning, audit representation and Quick Books setup and training. The additional services are great for a small business that does not want to hire a fulltime person into that position. Dean knows the importance of his clients’ time and offers

virtual services via phone and email. He also is aware that some of his elderly clients may not be able to go to him, so he will go directly to them. “I go to seniors’ home to collect their tax papers and

prepare their tax return and file for them. I won’t charge extra for that type of service.” When not providing stellar financial service to his clients, Dean is involved in Nirvana Healing Ministries and got them approval from the IRS to become a 5013C charity organization. They helped to load the food for North Carolina’s Hurricane Mathew victims. He also volunteers during Thanksgiving meals. In addition, he is involved in Tampa Tamil Academy. “I also got them tax exempt approval and continuously support them,” he said. Dean recommended that entrepreneurs like sole proprietors keep their personal and business expenses separate in case they are ever audited. He said that if you make a business and personal purchase on the same credit card, that you make two distinct transactions, so you have two separate receipts.

Dean explained what sets him apart from his competitors. “I am committed to my clients with the highest level of personalized and professional service to meet their goals. Customers can contact me on my cell number and my fees are flexible, so I can save them money based on their circumstances or situation,” he said. “I’ve been helping small businesses and individuals with all of their accounting needs while identifying and educating them about ways to save money. I give personal attention and expert knowledge of the accounting and business challenges they face.” Dean Haran CPA is located at 2830 Blueslate Court, Land O Lakes. SAT AND ACT IMPROVEMENT: SPRING AND SUMMER OPTIONS By Dr. Wayne Adams Really Good News! The governor signed into law the permanent expansion of both Bright Futures Scholarships to begin with the incoming classes next fall. About this time of year, I start receiving calls from students and parents about the SAT and ACT requirements to receive these scholarships because they can be worth $18,000 to $24,000 during four years of college. The top scholarship requires a SAT of 1290 or an ACT of 29. The 75% level requires a SAT of 1170 and an ACT of 26. The most common difficulty in a student qualifying is the SAT or ACT score. You have until the last exams of the spring to qualify, meaning the SAT on June 3rd and the ACT on June 10th. Bright Futures will “cherry pick” the best scores from multiple exams of the same type, add together the highest scores in each section, and round up the result to see if a student qualifies. If you want to see if you student

10

can qualify, we still have a little time. More and more students are preferring to prepare for the SAT and the ACT exams over the summer when schedules are not so demanding. The summer ACT Exam is on July 14th, and the summer SAT Exam is on August 25th. Rising seniors can take an exam and see if the score is what they need, or take another one in the fall before submitting college applications. Rising juniors often prepare for the PSAT given in mid-October, which is the only qualifying exam for National Merit Scholars. On occasion I help rising sophomores, such as two current seniors who both are National Merit Finalists (top 1% in nation based on PSAT score) with substantial scholarships. From my last article, you know that a freshman entering Princeton (the #1 ranked US college) in 2017 would pay over $3,000 less than a freshman entering the University of Florida (#42), and actually less than any residential college in Florida. If a

Florida student from a family of four, family income of $100,000, and family assets (excluding home equity) goes to Harvard, again they will pay less than going to the University of Florida. The reason is the high endowments of all top schools. These numbers stay about the same for all Top 25 Schools … the key is being admitted. (Sources: collegescoreboard net costs and Harvard.edu cost calculator) Would you have guessed that Florida ranks as the #7 state for freshmen admitted to Princeton in 2017 with 41 students. The top five were three New England States, California, Pennsylvania, and barely Texas (49 admitted).

The key is being admitted. Here’s an idea of how we can help you prepare. (there are more steps involved, but this will give you an idea): the Common Application is different than applications for major Florida schools, the application Essay(s) must be far superior and sometimes two are required, the Free

APRIL 2018

Application For Student Aid (FASFA which is required) is critical including how to legitimately minimize assets and income that count against you, pushing the SAT and ACT scores to the very top is a “must” (SAT at or above 1400, ACT at or above 31), maximizing college campus visits including talking with admissions and other key experiences, developing special strengths instead of the standard Florida community activities that do not count, understanding scholarship requirements that can vary widely, building negotiating skills to go after the best value packages that can save $10,000 - $40,000 in costs, preparation and practice for the all-important “personal interview” - so vital because often this “makes or breaks” an otherwise highly qualified student, and plugging-into a local alumni group in advance if possible to build relationships. And my students have been admitted to 8 of the top 10 universities in the country, and 17 of the top 25.

If you have an interest in shooting for a “Top 25”, call me so we can discuss our special program further. You can contact me at 727-253-0639 or send me an e mail at wwa0811@mykolab.com. Dr. Wayne Adams is one of the leading SAT and ACT tutors in the country. His students normally improve 200 – 350 points on the Writing, Reading, Writing and Essay, and Math, and 4 – 7 points on the ACT composite. They have been admitted to eight of the top ten universities in the country, seventeen of the top twenty-five, and many schools in Florida. These schools include Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Stanford, U Chicago, Duke, U Penn, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, Notre Dame, Emory, UC Berkley, UCLA, USC, UNC (Chapel Hill), NYU, Northeastern (Boston), Boston College, Georgia Tech, Air Force and Merchant Marine Service Academies, Penn State, LSU, Auburn, UF, U Miami, FSU, USF, UCF, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, FIU, New College of Florida, Stetson, and Julliard – Manhattan -

Twins Twist Life’s Lemons into Heartfelt Lemonade The saying, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade" comes to mind when I think of Emmah and Aaron Heinrichs, 8-year-old twins who decided when Pasco’s spring break 2018 approached, their fun in the sun would look a little different than just a day at the beach. After learning from their grandmother that there are children who suffer in Pasco from hunger, and that there would be an event to help raise money toward the cause, the Heinrichs twins decided to act and do something about it. Giving up a day of their spring break, they decided they would make lemonade and set up a stand to sell it, giving the money raised to One Community Now for their 2018 Hunger Walk. One Community Now is a local non-profit who in 2014 started an annual Hunger Walk event to help promote awareness and raise money for their Pack A Sack program, that helps provide food to children during the weekends and holiday breaks. Without the food provided,

14

many children would not eat at all. Wanting to make the best of this opportunity, the Heinrichs twins set up their lemonade stand in their grandmother’s neighborhood by the

American Idol Contestant Made Tampa Bay Proud! By Deborah Bostock-Kelley

Today, when you type “Zach” in Google search, it’s not the last name “Braff” or “Galifianakis” that pops up, but a lesser-known “D’Onofrio” immediately auto-populates. Until his life changed on March 11, unless you knew the young man self-described as “funny, dorky, and nice,” you wouldn’t realize the significance of the search results. On that Sunday night during primetime on ABC, the Wiregrass Ranch High School student stole the hearts of judges and viewers alike in his televised audition for the reboot of American Idol. Overnight, the seventeen-year-old became what dreams are made of. No one could have predicted that the cute bespectacled kid, a collector of quirky socks, in lucky clover socks, with a higher pitched speaking voice would have a deep crooner’s singing voice that shocked the judges and the nation. Katy Perry grew wide-eyed when the teen began serenading the judges with Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight” and decided to join him in a slow dance. Zach didn’t miss a beat, continuing his perfectly pitched rendition while he danced and dipped the celebrity with Lionel Richey and Luke Bryant dancing together behind the judges’ table. After the song’s conclusion, Luke asked the singer if it was “his real voice” and Zach assured him it was. Luke later tweeted that Harry Potter just walked in and slayed us, tagging the teen in

16

the post. One beautiful song, one unanimously-awarded golden ticket and a giant bear hug by proud mom, Darci later, Zach is headed to Hollywood. But first this down-to-earth young man must finish his AP homework and his dual enrollment, go on multiple interviews, win Superior for the state thespian competition and place as Jazz Vocal finalist in Pasco Spotlight on Talent. Once teased for his unique speaking voice, Zach is learning that being different makes you completely memorable. It helps that his background story is one made for television. “I have not been singing very long because I was afraid to share my voice. My speaking voice and my singing voice are completely different. Some people at school made fun of my speaking voice and that made me very shy. I decided to give singing a try and it made me feel so good. At that point I did not care what anyone thought about my speaking voice,” Zach said. “I really started singing on my own at age 15, but I have grown up in a musical family.” Zach’s parents, Darci and Bryan, own the Dreamhouse Theatre in Lutz, where Zach played supporting roles as Benjamin in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Farquaad in Shrek the Musical. It was friends at school that showed him the information about Tampa Bay Idol and encouraged him to audition. Zach walked away from that competition with a ticket to skip

the line of the American Idol auditions in Orlando. After another successful audition in Orlando in front of the producers, Zach headed to New York to audition in front of the celebrity judges. Between being seen on promotional commercials to the actual audition, he is learning how to deal with being an overnight local celebrity. Darci said that he has fans in Publix and Walmart. Kids on Instagram are tweeting congratulations and things like,

He goes to my school!” Zach can take it all in stride because he has a tremendous mom, dad, and sister to keep him grounded and serve as his support system and cheerleaders. “My mom has been there for me at every audition and helped me through every moment of this journey. My parents are my inspiration. They work hard and follow their dreams. They started Dreamhouse theatre because

they believe in the Arts and this is very inspiring to me. If it were not for them, I would not have the confidence I have today,” he said. “They have always supported me and my dreams and I love them very much.” Though the American Idol journey ended in Hollywood for this lover of Frank Sinatra and other old-school crooners that he says “inspires him to keep the classic music alive,” Zach has more than made his city proud. And his dream goes far beyond music. After graduation, he plans to go to medical school in New York, while pursuing a musical career. Zach realizes the importance of being a role model for younger kids who watched his incredible ride. “I am excited to be a role

model for kids younger than me that may not have the confidence to follow their dreams. I also want to let kids know that what people say about you or your voice, does not matter. You can do anything you want in life! Don’t let anyone stop you from following your dreams,” he said. From an unknown theatre and chorus kid with the quirky socks and higher speaking voice to the local poised American Idol contestant with 697,000 search results in Google, Zach is still definitely one to watch… if not on American Idol, but live and in person when the talented teen next performs at Dreamhouse Theatre. “Do not worry about what others think or say,” he said. “Just be YOU.”

Custom Windows and Doors of Pasco, Inc: Your Perfect Door and Window Solution By Tom Bostock

The average window is warranted for 10 years while a door is approximately 30 years. Windows can begin to leak with age. Sliding door wheels, and entrance door hardware can wear out over time. If your house was built before 1988, you will probably be in the market for replacement windows and doors in the very near future, if you haven’t already made that investment. When the EPA created their “energy star” rating system in 1992, it rated the energy efficiency of all building products. Did you know that builders’ grade windows only had to meet the minimum standard to be considered “energy star,” since products were rated on a scale of 1 to 100? Your “energy star” home might not be as energy efficient as you think it is. That may be a problem for a lot of our local homeowners, but not if you live in the Port Richey area. This family-run business, established 27 years ago, continues to offer custom doors, windows and accessories for their friends and neighbors, with smiling, friendly service. Are they any good? Their A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau is an indication of just how much they value your business, scoring an impressive 97 out of a possible 100! Recommendations and reputations are a company’s lifeblood. If you check online Yelp,

20

you can read some glowing testimonials about the service and products that you can expect from Custom Windows and Doors and of Pasco, Inc. Peter L. contacted them when he was referred by several neighbors who had used their services. He was rehabbing a house at the time. “They were better than advertised,” he wrote. “When it was time to replace all the windows and sliding glass doors at my own home, they were my first phone call,” he continued. “If you are not using CW&D in your home, you are getting less than you ought to!” Peter was not alone in his praise of the quality and service provided by CW&D. Another satisfied client, Laura M. ended her Yelp testimonial with the following: “Every one of the employees I encountered from the office to the installers were true professionals and were a delight to work with and I would recommend this company wholeheartedly.” Several other clients took the time to sing their praise as well. So, who are these magicians of the custom doors and window business? Bob and Carole Leggiere had the dream of providing quality custom windows and doors to homeowners in Port Richey and founded what is today Custom Windows and Doors of Pasco, Inc. Since Bob’s death in 2012, Carole has continued that legacy, providing the same, fine-quality

custom products and services that their company has come to represent. Custom Windows and Doors of Pasco Inc. offers a special experience to all their valued customers. They are the only door and window company in the area that even offers custom entry doors for mobile homes. Does your home’s curb appeal need a facelift? Is your front door a little “tired-looking?” Owner, Carole Leggierre, suggests updating your front door with a custom insert. Her custom jig specialist, Frank Kownack, can design the ideal template for equally talented Raffaele Sasso to create the final finished product. With your custom insert, your previously average-looking door will become a unique, one-of-a kind eyecatcher, the envy of your neighborhood.

Like the saying goes, “the job isn’t complete until the paperwork is done.” Paperwork is in good hands at Custom Windows and Doors of Pasco with Marilyn Loper efficiently handling all licensing and permitting requirements while equally adept Nicole Grau manages their counter sales, contract and permit paperwork. Sales and installations are proficiently overseen by another longtime key employee, Todd Partlow, the company troubleshooter, while experienced installation service tech, Sonnie Ranno, performs the warehouse functions, replacing screens, glass and vinyl. Carole says, when it comes to the windows and doors that they represent, “if it can be fixed, he can fix it.” They extend a one-year warranty on their installations as

well as all manufacturer’s warranties, representing major companies like PGT Industries, Custom Window Systems, Jeldwin Windows and Doors, Builders Hardware Inc, Huttig Building Products, Plastpro/Therma-Tru Doors (now available in colors), to name a few of their many professional sources. Owner, Carole Leggiere, credits her experienced staff for the continued success and growth of her company. From their 5,000 sq.ft. main facility with a window

and door showrooms, she makes the following promise,” we go out of our way to make the customer happy.” Open M – F 8:30 to 4:30 and 9:00 to 12 on Saturday, 727/8419490, if it involves doors or windows, this is the place to come. “Heartwood” Continued from page 1 Heartwood Preserve. The whole of Heartwood Preserve is 41 acres, with the Conservation Cemetery taking up a small portion. ‘Conservation’ is an important part of the name because this is a nature preserve; the property will remain in its natural state. “So, when you are buried here, you are participating in the conservation of this land in its natural state and contributing to the health and protection of vital plant communities,” explained Laura Starkey. Keeping these woodlands in pristine condition is personal and very important to Laura, who grew up exploring the lay of her family’s land. For the past decade, Laura, as Director of Conservation Lands, has lovingly cared for the Starkey family’s conservation land areas. “I learned about natural burial at a land conservation conference and it just appealed to me,” said Laura. “It’s a way to hold on to the natural areas and to also share in the conservation with other people.” Both Heartwood Preserve and Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park protect Florida’s majestic longleaf pines. Laura knows a great deal about both Florida’s ecology and the efforts others in the state are making to save ecosystems, such as the ones supported by longleaf pines. There are many books about natural Florida in the office at Heartwood Preserve, including some by Laura’s friend, author, conservationist photographer and eighth generation Floridian, Carlton

32

Ward Jr. Supporting diverse ecosystems, home to nearly 600 plant and animal species (including threatened and endangered species), longleaf pine forests once encompassed more than 90 million acres across the Southeast. According to the United States Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (nrcs.usda.gov), the Southeast’s precious corridor of longleaf pines in now broken, reduced by almost 97 percent over the last 200 years. A major concern to naturalists, the plight of the longleaf pines finally gained government support in 2010, when NRCS launched the Longleaf Pine Initiative (LLPI), in an effort to support conservation. Through the efforts of the LLPI, along with other conservation sites, such as Heartwood Preserve and Jay. B. Starkey Wilderness Park, the longleaf forests are slowly gaining ground. From 2010 to 2014, the amount of healthy longleaf forests grew from 3 million acres to more than 4 million acres (nrcs.usda.gov).

Remembrance Under Longleaf Pines The meandering paths at Heartwood Preserve invite guests to take a nature walk, a deeply satisfying way to remember a loved one. As Laura led me on a walking tour through Heartwood Preserve, we came upon a gravesite. A simple mound, surrounded by pine cones, gathered by friends and family, the grave will settle and seamlessly blend with the rest of the woods, becoming home to wildflowers, and trees, helping wildlife to thrive. No

tombstones are allowed; rather a small metal plaque marked the spot at ground level. Laura said the Preserve is looking into allowing the planting of a Florida-native tree in designated areas to commemorate loves ones who are buried at Heartwood. Services are very personal. The gravesites are prepared prior to the family arriving, but family and friends are given the option of shoveling dirt to fill the grave. This appeals to many grieving friends and family member on an innate level. The option to actively help lay a loved one to rest is cathartic for many. Personally, before visiting Heartwood Preserve, I thought that

APRIL 2018

I preferred cremation to burial, simply because I don’t like the idea of my body preserved with chemicals and entombed. A final resting place under Florida’s longleaf pines, where the body truly returns to the earth, sounds much better. The burial of cremated remains is also an option at Heartwood Preserve; the ‘ashes’ may be buried in a biodegradable urn or poured directly into the grave.

Responsible and Loving Pre-Planning While Heartwood Preserve is one of two conservation cemeteries in Florida, it is the only one licensed to offer pre-planning. It’s not something we like to think about,

Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles

but, making plans prior to one’s death is a very loving gift to those still living. Many times, when someone dies unexpectedly, the family has no clue about the personal wishes of their loved one. “In this industry, we meet couples married 50 to 60 years who haven’t discussed their wishes for burial,” shared Heartwood Preserve Manager Diana Sayegh, who works closely with families making final arrangements as well as pre-planning. “We have causal, intimate meetings with families to discuss what a green burial means for the full body or cremains. For instance, we don’t Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles

scatter ashes; they are put into the earth. There is no embalming; it is a completely natural burial.” If a green burial, under the Florida sky, in a protected stand of longleaf pines seems like a good final resting place, stop by Heartwood Preserve’s office and talk to Diana. It’s a beautiful place to take a walk in the woods; guided tours are available. Diana recalled a recent silent meditation walk, led by a local yoga instructor. “Every now and then, she’d remind us to stop and breathe and take it all in. I really enjoyed it.” Heartwood Preserve offers a

monthly Talk & Tour (led by Laura or special guest speakers), a casual format for visitors to learn about and enjoy the many beautiful aspect of the nature preserve. Diana is available to answer common questions about natural burial after the talk. You can still catch the April Talk & Tour for “Earth Day” on 4/21/18 at 9:00 a.m. There is no charge to attend, although an RSVP is appreciated. Information about these and other free activities can be found on their Facebook page, MeetUP.com page and Calendar Events page: www.HeartwoodPreserve.com/Events.

Heartwood Preserve is located at 4100 Starkey Boulevard in Trinity, FL. Welcome Center hours: Mon. – Fri., 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and by appointment on weekends and holiday. Nature Preserve hours: Mon. – Sat., 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Sun. “DiPiazza” Continued from page 1 prolapse. My help changes lives dramatically. Because I specialize in robotic surgery, the procedures are minimally invasive and recovery time for patients is quicker than with traditional surgery. They are often back at home the next day.” Because Dr. DiPiazza is board certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery he sees many women for issues of dropped bladder or rectum. Many women are affected by pelvic organ prolapse. The muscles that hold the pelvic organs in place can get injured or stretched by childbirth, prior hysterectomy or being over-weight. When this happens, it can cause pain, discomfort, incontinence and constipation. “I was recommended by my OB-GYN to Dr. DiPiazza due to the results of a hysterectomy. I have complete faith in Dr. DiPiazza's ability to perform the robotic sacrocolpopexy, a minimally invasive procedure to correct a prolapse condition in women. The small incisions resulted in very little pain and a faster recovery time,” said patient Anna. “I would highly recommend Dr. DiPiazza to all woman suffering from bladder and/or vaginal prolapse. His

expertise made my quality of life better than I expected. He's my hero!” Urological concerns can be embarrassing to talk about and sometimes people might avoid making an appointment with a doctor because it is an uncomfortable subject, but Dr. DiPiazza puts his patients at ease with his humor and downto-earth manner. One serious issue that many may overlook or think is just another sign of aging is frequent or painful urination. But with Dr. DiPiazza’s skilled robotic surgery techniques, you can live your life confidently and comfortably again.

“Dr. DiPiazza put a sling in to control my stress incontinence. The pre-surgery was a breeze because of his awesome staff,” said one patient. “During post surgery, I only had a little discomfort in my hip joints and 4 weeks of minimal recovery. The results were immediate.....no more piddle pads. I should have done this years ago! I highly recommend Dr. DiPiazza.” Dr. DiPiazza is Board Certified in Urology and is the only Urologist in Pasco and Pinellas Counties who is Board Certified in Female Pelvic Medicine Reconstructive Surgery. Vinci Robot assisted surgeries, Dr. DiPiazza has years of experience in laparoscopically removing tumors in the prostate, the kidneys and the bladder. In the instance of kidney cancer, Dr. DiPiazza makes every effort to remove the cancer and reconstruct the kidney, in order to save it. “I can do this in most cases,” he says. “Many surgeons would just do the easier surgery of removing the entire kidney.” Over the past ten years, Dr. DiPiazza has helped thousands of patients to get their lives back to normal using minimally invasive da Vinci Robot assisted surgery.

Dr. DiPiazza uses the da Vinci Robot surgical system to perform Robotic Sacrocolpopexy surgery, resulting in less blood loss, fewer complications, shorter hospitalization and shorter recovery time. The tools (above left) are tiny, and a large open incision is now replaced with five very tiny incisions - much less invasive! “I was diagnosed with kidney cancer and was facing losing part if not all of my left kidney,” said patient Pam A. “Dr. DiPiazza not only was able to remove all of the cancer but also saved my entire kidney. Recovery was quick and easy. Dr. DiPiazza is an extremely skilled professional who I would highly recommend. His office staff are the nicest bunch of people I have had to deal with. They are super nice and have very positive upbeat attitudes. The

entire experience was very positive due to this doctor and his staff!” Dr. DiPiazza completed his undergraduate training with honors at Cornell University, later completing his residency at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, and Princeton Medical Center. After six years of formal surgical training, Dr. DiPiazza began treating all aspects of urologic oncology, general urology, and the additional

speciality of urogynecology. In 2010, Dr. DiPiazza was the Chief of Surgery at Community Hospital (now the Medical Center of Trinity). Based on his education and experience it is easy to understand why so many patients choose Dr. DiPiazza and why so many doctors refer patients to him, but when patients meet Dr. DiPiazza in person, it is his passion for what he does that makes an impression. He takes the time to talk to patients about their

concerns, show them what can be done and explain how. He is part caregiver, part scientist, and all surgeon. He understands the way the body works and has experience working around the organs in the pelvis and abdomen, which is no easy task. There is no reason you should have to suffer from urological or urogynecological issues for another day. Make an appointment today with Dr. DiPiazza. Dr. David DiPiazza is a physician at Urology Specialists of West Florida.
