Taso Italiano - All The Best! Family Dining good! How’s the family?” says Taso with a big smile as he escorts a customer to her table. It was clear by this and other interactions that most of the customers were regulars. Some come in as many as 2-4 times per week, never getting bored with the extensive menu and always counting on the best customer service. “Exceptional service ‘may’ compensate for ‘Okay’ food. However, exceptional food will ‘NEVER’ compensate ‘Okay’ service,” says owner, Taso Stassi, who believes you’re only as good as the help you have at your side. Hearing, like sight, is an important sense, the gift to help communicate and better understand the world and people around us. However, recent statistics, from the Centers for Disease Control, indicate
that this precious gift is being abused on a massive scale. When one in five young adults, ages 20 to 29, have some measurable hearing loss today, something is seriously wrong! There is even more deterioration with age; by ages 50 thru 59, one in four people suffers from some hearing deficiency.

A decibel, dB, according to website animations.phsics.unsw.edu.au/jw/d B.htm, is defined as a unit “used to measure sound level,” its intensity. Why is this important? The exposure to as little as 85dB can cause significant hearing loss, damaging tiny nerves in the ear, disrupting the ear’s ability to process sound. Government safety watchdog, OSHA, mandates the use of hearing protection in the workplace at frequencies at or above 90 dB; normal conversation, from three feet away, represents about 60dB. Listening to loud music with ear phones and ear buds can significantly exceed that threshold, possibly leading to permanent hearing impairment. Occupants in a loud car

Honoring Mom in May (and a shout out to Dad, too!) “All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her.” — George Washington All across the country we celebrated Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 13th. On this day we honored the women who who brought us into the world, who shaped us, nurtured us, and showed us what unconditional love is truly all about. During the entire month of May, a lot of our advertisers will be running incredible Mother’s Day specials, so make sure to check them out. Our moms are definitely one of the most important people in our lives, they are simultaneously our biggest fan and our harshest critic. Our Mother’s demands can sometimes be unattainable, but they are meant to make us a better person. Moms are that little voice inside our heads that remind us to be polite to others, to bring an umbrella, to eat breakfast and to iron your t-shirts (because you never know who you’ll meet that day.) Moms are the ones we all run to for comfort, especially when we are sick (or at least the majority of us do) even if we’re adults and have kids of our own. Nobody takes care of us better than mom. Her warm hugs and voice make us automatically feel better, no matter what. Nobody will ever spoil us, love us and take better care of us than our mothers.
Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles
Being a mother remains a lifelong commitment. Even after a child is grown, graduated and employed, mom is still mom, and moms will always worry. And when the world is harsh, when life pokes us in the eye and laughs at us, it is often our first instinct to seek comfort in a mother’s love. And let’s not get started on their cooking skills! Mothers always cook the best meals! I don’t know how they do it, but nobody can cook quite like your mom! If you’re anything like me you’ve probably said these words before: “I have the best mom in the world.” Even though she drives me crazy at times (ok, the majority of the time) I know my mother always wants the best for me. My mother is selfless, smart, funny, beautiful and adores me and my sister. I can truly say that, in the same words of George Washington, all that I am, and all that I have, I owe to her (and also to my amazing father, up in heaven.) I couldn’t imagine where I would be without the loving parents I was blessed with. And speaking about fathers... the month of June is quickly approaching, and we get to celebrate Father’s Day on Sunday, June 17th. This will be the first year I will not get to be able to see, hug, kiss or even talk to my father, since he passed away last year. If you are lucky enough to still have your father around,
make sure you hug them and kiss them and let them know how much they mean to you. A lot of exciting family-friendly events will be happening all over the city in the upcoming month(s), so make sure you take your parents out for a nice day of family fun. And last but not least, I want to take this opportunity to tell my Mom how much I love her, and thank you, for everything she’s done and continues to do for me and all of our family. And to my dad, who I hope is in a better place... I just want to say, I love you and I miss you so much, there’s no day I do not think about you, and I do pray one day we can all be together again. To my mom and dad in-law, Doreen and Tim Selby, founders of Tampa Bay News and Lifestyles, I want to say thank you...for all you do, for always greeting me with a smile and a big hug, thanks for loving me like a daughter and making me feel like part of the family. I love you all so much! From part of the entire team of Tampa Bay News and Lifestyles, I hope you had a great Mother’s Day, and we hope you have an amazing Father’s Day. We hope you are surrounded by loved ones today. If they can’t make it home, we hope they at least call. Carla Selby.

Best of Both Worlds: Jakob Mattos brings a new face to the list of exceptional athletes By John Henges
From baseball, to football, to home and back, Jakob Mattos (#12 in the photo to the right) illustrates his ability to juggle multiple sports while excelling as a player in all of them. Mattos’ ability to maintain positions in both football and baseball since the age of seven marked his path to success throughout his high school career. Directly after helping bring the J.W. Mitchell High School football team to the regional semifinals, he shifted his focus to baseball. With baseball as his first love, Mattos played on his local little league and travel team, West Florida Young Guns, as a child. Shortly after, Mattos decided to join the Hudson Cobra’s little league football team to stay active. “Originally, I started with football to keep my endurance up and to keep me nice and healthy and

in shape. That really helped me out with baseball too,” Mattos said. After a summer baseball camp at Coastal Carolina University near

at the camp. As a sophomore in high school, Mattos made a verbal commitment to Coastal Carolina Baseball, formally signing with the
Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles
team in November 2017. Through leadership as a captain of Mitchell High School’s baseball team and as the starting quarterback of the football team, he shows his ability to steer his fellow players to success. He proved to push past the mental block in baseball during his recent three seasons, holding a record of 20-4, and helped lead the football team to an undefeated regular season. “In baseball, you have to give 110% to every game. You’re gonna have your good days and you’re gonna have your bad days, it’s 50% mental struggle,” Mattos said. After starting as a linebacker on the Mitchell High School varsity football team, Coach Andy Schmitz moved Mattos to the quarterback position. “Jake is a quiet kid but he’s a natural leader. The fact that Jake stepped up and was able to make all the plays and make all the throws made it a pretty easy decision.” Schmitz said. Mattos’ close family acts as an inspiration to the emerging college athlete at both a physical and emotional level. His brothers, Jay
and Jared, played for Ridgewood and Fivay High School. “I have spent many days after school when I was younger pitching batting practice in our batting cage at home. Now I try to attend every game and tell him what he can fix to make himself even better for the next game,” Jay Mattos said. Through his dedication as an athlete from his early years of schooling, Mattos rose to the occasion and acts as a versatile athlete, capable of becoming a star athlete.

SAT AND ACT IMPROVEMENT: SUMMER PREP CLASSES By Dr. Wayne Adams More and more students are preferring to prepare for the SAT and the ACT exams over the summer when schedules are not so demanding. The summer ACT Exam is on July 14th, and the summer SAT Exam is on August 25th. Rising seniors can take an exam and see if the score is what they need, or take another one in the fall before submitting college applications. Rising juniors often prepare for the PSAT given in midOctober, which is the only qualifying exam for National Merit Scholars. On occasion I help rising sophomores, such as two current seniors who both are National Merit Finalists (top 1% in nation based on PSAT score) with substantial scholarships. The phone is ringing about the new “Top 25” Program. If you are interested in seeing if this is an option for your student(s), give me a call. From my last article, you know that a freshman entering Princeton (the #1 ranked US College) in 2017 would pay over $3,000 less than a freshman entering the University of Florida (#42), and actually less than any residential college
in Florida. The cost of attending most of the Top 25 is very close to UF for most Florida students. Again, the key is to be admitted, which is not easy since most of these schools admit less than 10% of applicants, but can be done. The core of my prep classes is the same for all students. Each comes to me with an academic foundation, a certain level of test-taking skills, a specific learning style, a personality type, goals, and motivations. Usually within the first fifteen minutes of our first
class, when normally the student(s) and parent(s) sit down and we talk about the philosophies underlying the course and get to know each other, I get a good reading on each of these key student characteristics. This is built on over seven years of working with students and parents in this highly specialized field, plus many years of teaching at many levels up to graduate school. From this point, the course is adapted to each student. For example, all students need a combination of test taking techniques and strategies, baseline tests,
focused skill building, and practice. Students in each “potential scoring range” need different specifics within this core. For example, a student starting at an SAT superscore of 1,000 or an ACT composite of 20 will need more focus on learning key strategies and mid-range skill building. A student starting at an SAT superscore of 1380 - 1400 or an ACT composite of 28 – 30 will need more focus on avoiding what we call “SM’s” (silly mistakes), spotting subtle traps in questions, and handling “curve balls”, those types of questions that do not
occur often and may not even be covered in most prep books. And I have seen students coming with an SAT score of 450 or an ACT score of 17 in a subject make dramatic jumps to 650 or more on the SAT and 26 – 28 on the ACT because they are willing to work hard outside of class … the results show! During our first fifteen minutes, I always ask the student(s), “How well do you want to do?” Answers vary, with the one I like best being, “Really well.” Then I say, “Excellent. Now there is another question that always comes with the first one. How hard are you willing to work?” The two key attitudes for doing their best do not vary in our classes. The first is underlying motivation, which comes from seeing clear improvement which grows into a determination to do their best. The second is test-confidence. We start with a range from “Not sure I can do this,” to “I think I can.” By the end of the course, almost all of my students are thinking, “I can do this well. Just let me show you how well I can do!” Would love to talk with you further. Just contact me at 727-253-0639 or send me an e mail at wwa0811@mykolab.com to talk further about your student. Dr. Wayne Adams is one of the leading SAT and ACT tutors in the
Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles
country. His students normally improve 200 – 350 points on the Writing, Reading, Writing and Essay, and Math, and 4 – 7 points on the ACT composite. They have been admitted to eight of the top ten universities in the country, seventeen of the top twenty-five, and many schools in Florida. These schools include Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Stanford, U Chicago, Duke, U Penn, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, Notre Dame, Emory, UC Berkley, UCLA, USC, UNC (Chapel Hill), NYU, Northeastern (Boston), Boston College, Georgia Tech, Air Force and Merchant Marine Service Academies, Penn State, LSU, Auburn, UF, U Miami, FSU, USF, UCF, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, FIU, New College of Florida, Stetson, and Julliard – Manhattan New England - and Berkley Conservatories of Music. Many have received academic, athletic, or music scholarships. This year, he also tutored three juniors who scored at the national merit finalist/semi-finalist levels on the most recent PSAT. He is a former Dean of a Graduate School of Business and Full Professor, and began college teaching at the University of Maryland in 1968. He has degrees and advanced studies at Harvard, Yale, Vanderbilt, Columbia International, and Luther Rice.

Tech Talk with Bob: Wi-Fi: Part 4 By Bob Dalles Greetings! We have been talking, in depth, about Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) utilizing the 802.11 standard different radio signals designated by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Let’s begin with the current fastest of the remaining two standards we need to cover. The current fastest standard is 802.11ac which transmits at a speed of 1300 Megabits Per Second (Mbps); with a range of 1300 feet; and uses the 5 Gigahertz (GHz) frequency.

The next slower standard is 802.11n which transmits at a speed of 600 Mbps; with a range of 1200 feet; and uses the 2.4 GHz frequency and the 5 GHz radio frequency. The good news is that currently the 802.11ac, 802.11n and the 802.11g are the main formats you’ll

Get the Party Started with Fast Breaks Executive Entertainment! by: Lisa Stephens If you’re throwing a party, hosting a special occasion, entertaining children at a school event or in need of some added creativity and fun for your next corporate event, look no further than Fast Breaks Executive Entertainment! Truly, they have exactly what you’re looking for and they know how to keep the activity moving forward with fun and excitement! Owners Phil Pasek and Ian Doubt are professional DJs who know the business inside and out. Fast Breaks Executive Entertainment has been in business since 1996. Their years’ of experience serves clients well because they know what works to make any event special and they have experience with just about any snafu that might occur. Fortunately, because they’re so experienced, problems are few and far between and if they should happen, they know how to resolve them professionally without notice of your guests. No stone is left unturned when they meet with clients to get a clear understanding of what each client wants for any occasion. Owners Phil and Ian are involved in every aspect of the business. They handle the booking and management of each event so the professional DJs they send out can focus on the best experience for the client. When it comes to customer service, Ian explained their philosophy. “The real goal is to provide the atmosphere and experience necessary to make memorable events for each client,” he said. “We may do this every week but we’re well aware that when it is someone’s wedding, school prom or fundraiser, it’s important to treat each of those events with the same excitement and appreciation.” Their goal is to make every party a real event. “We want to make every party “THE event,” he explained. What sets Fast Breaks Executive Entertainment apart from other DJ services? They’re so much more! “We’re Emcees; Masters of Ceremony,” said Ian. “We focus on engaging our audiences and creating an atmosphere conducive to each event,” he explained. If you need equipment, Fast Breaks Executive Entertainment has everything you could possibly need. Well equipped with the latest technology in audio and visual equipment, they provide the ultimate experience. “We use state of the art lighting, sound, and visual aids,” Ian said. “It’s not just about being a Deejay, or playing music. Communication, for us, is key,” Ian shared. With Fast Breaks Executive

Entertainment, communication with the official at a wedding, the caterer, service personnel and anyone else present at each event is a must. “We try to keep everyone informed of our activities at an event so that everyone can put on a better production.” Ian revealed that Fast Breaks Executive Entertainment is not a part time job for those bringing the excitement to your event! “This is our career and we’re able to focus on our clients at every event to provide our best services,” he said. “This is our livelihood and we take our careers very seriously.” Equipment needed for events is not a challenge. They don’t offer rentals in the traditional sense. You’re actually hiring a professional A/V team that can operate A/V systems, lighting and visual aid packages geared at meeting the desires of the client. The website outlines what steps have been taken to ensure the validity of the causes allowed to use their platform. “YouCaring uses stateof-the-art proprietary and third-party fraud prevention technologies to ensure that YouCaring has the safest and most reliable fundraising platform in the industry. Our payment providers are chosen for their bank-grade encryption technology and their strong security track records. Discounting the idiots who set up accounts to fund their alimony, crowdfunding is an excellent tool to reach today’s huge, social mediaresponsive audience. If you have a legitimate cause that needs funding, one of the online crowdfunding websites might just be your ideal solution.

Where’d He Get that Great Style? Leo’s Barber Shop – Where the Best Barbers Work! by Marcy Sanford On any given day, Leo’s Barber Shop at 4110 Little Road in Trinity is bustling with the best barbers in Tampa giving the best service, closest shaves, head-turning haircuts and eyecatching styles. “We have a very diverse group of talented barbers who can do any style, cut or shave that you would want,” said owner Steve VanPetten. "We mainly focus on men, but we can also accommodate women and children." In fact, Leo's barbers and hair stylists are happy to accommodate any member of the family. "This is a great place to bring your entire family!" says Matthew M. "I am so happy I stumbled across this neighborhood gem. They have every type of barber and stylist ready to tackle anyone's needs. My daughter can get her hair trimmed by a stylist and my son can get a great fade and design at the same time, all while I am getting my beard treatment!" There are always 8 chairs open at Leo’s and typically when you walk-in for a service, you won’t have to wait long but Steve says there are some loyal clients that have their favorite barber they are willing to wait for. “Tony is the man,” said Robb S. “I have had several others cut my hair and they are all great at their job. Tony took the time to show me the way my hair actually grows, how it flows and not to fight it. My hair has never looked better and the compliments about, ‘wow! Love your haircut dude,’ are always commonplace right after he takes care of me. I call to make sure his there before I come in, the best. Absolutely the best.” “All the barbers at Leo’s are here because they want a career where they can express themselves artistically and be self-employed at the same time,” said Steve. “All these people are passionate about their work and all have several people that will wait for them because they know that it’s worth the wait.”

time. They take the time to talk to each client, so they know what they want and are happy to suggest styles based on their knowledge of the latest trends and looks and their experience with all types of hair. They are skilled at making clients of all ages happy, even the youngest members of the household who are coming in for their first haircut. And all haircuts, and edge ups come with a shave. Well except for the first haircuts – no shave for them – but they do get a fancy certificate and their picture on Leo’s first haircut page of fame. “My son gets his haircut here,” said Marsha B. “It’s the best barber shop in the Trinity/New Port Richey area. They are great with a straight razor. My son’s hair looks so nice with super clean edges. He is 15 so you know at that age a nice haircut is very important.”
Beard Treatment If you’ve got a beard, you know they require extra maintenance to look their best. Don’t worry, Leo’s is home to The Beard Doctor. “I can’t say enough just how amazing my barber Richie ‘the beard doctor’ is,” said Jacob T. “I walked away feeling more elated than I could have possibly imagined. These guys know what they are doing and treat your beard/hair with an incredible sense of artistry and respect. I’ve found my permanent barber shop.” Steve and the talented barbers at Leo’s have created a vibrant community inside the shop that is open and friendly to everyone. They love getting to know their clients and their preferences and are equally active in the community outside their shop. They are heavily involved in charities, community service and funding for schools and non-profit organizations. Leo’s helps out every year with the Red Apple Training Center, the V.A. Project, the Shriner’s Circus and other local organizations. “The reason I have enjoyed this career so much is as the owner of the shop I know that I’m here to serve the barbers. To help them make the most out of their careers and assist them however I can, so in return they can continue serving the customers and providing nothing but the best customer service to anyone who

The Grout Guy Inc. Makes Clients a True Believer By Deborah Bostock-Kelley Having received hands-on training in Arizona, in 2001 Coleman Wilson, president of The Grout Guy Inc. took the tile and grout repair and restoration concept back to New Hampshire and then relocated to Trinity, FL three years ago. “I saw a need and I fulfilled it,” he said, explaining his interest in tile and grout restoration. Screened and HomeAdvisor approved, Coleman has completed thousands of jobs over his seventeen years in business and said that it is his vast experience that separates him from the competition. He understands that every client and every job is different, and uses his knowledge to formulate the most effective approach to repairing and restoring tile and grout. “My favorite job was a restoration of a marble mosaic over 100 years old in a Catholic church in Manchester, New Hampshire. Someone installed carpet on top of it. They removed the carpet and I restored it.” Servicing New Port Richey,

Tarpon Springs, Palm Harbor, Port Richey, Holiday, Land O Lakes, Lutz, Crystal Beach, Odessa, Hudson, Oldsmar, and Elfers, The Grout Guy Inc. provides ceramic and porcelain grout color sealing, steam cleaning, tile and grout repair, and edge/corner caulking. For natural stone, services include deep cleaning, repair and replacement, sealing and grout repair. For the homes’ exterior, Coleman offers cleaning of brick pavers. In the Florida sun, it is easy for bricks to fade. With a steam clean and silicon sealant enhancer, the stone can look fresh for

4 to 6 years. “The sealing process is where I seal newly installed grout. For the brick pavers, I steam clean the brick pavers and then apply numerous sealants on them,” he explained. “The sealer I use for grout is a grout stain, a color seal, that lasts for several years and makes the grout practically stain-proof.” After years of improper cleaning, grout can get dirty, but a steam clean and grout color-sealed to blend in with the tile can make an old floor

look brand new. This type of service is extremely convenient and helpful especially if a dark-colored drink is spilled, as color sealing will not allow the liquid to penetrate the grout. If you have tile and are frustrated with how difficult it is to maintain, The Grout Guy Inc. offers clients a free consultation and a price-match guarantee. After he performs his services to either the tile or grout, Coleman even offers special training to his customers, in order to ensure they maintain their tile or grout as
Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles
spotless as possible. “Every job is different, but I make it a lot easier for my customers,” he said. “I train my clients on how to properly maintain their floors and walls.” One of his tips revolves around a common mistake that most people make, says Coleman. “People take a shower and don’t wipe down the tile and/or glass door of shower. Over time, if not properly dried, your bathtub tile can be a breeding ground for bacteria and mold. “ But fear not! If you are one of many who have bathroom tile or a shower door in need, Coleman and The Grout Guy Inc. is the company to call. Shower and bath services include; tile hand wash deep cleaning of tile and grout, grout re-caulk and sealing, and shower glass restoration. “Drying the shower after use will get rid of the minerals in the water, and the soaps and shampoos,” he explained, making sure we could all understand why something so minor was so important. “If it’s dried, it will not attract mold and mildew, but you have to do it after every shower,” he added. Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles
In addition to his home care services, Coleman writes a blog on his website called “The Art of the Seal” where he regularly shares tips and tricks for readers looking to learn how to maintain the life of their tile, stone, and grout. “I periodically get skeptics – people who don’t I think I can perform what I tell them- and I can’t count how people’s opinions I’ve turned.” “Absolutely would recommend Cole/The Grout Guy without hesitation. My tile and grout looks absolutely fantastic!” says Donna Ann R. about her recent experience with The Grout Guy Inc. “Cole arrived when he said he would (which says a lot these days about a contractor), was professional and meticulous in his work. He took the time to find the right color grout and tested it in a few areas in different lighting. Will definitely be a repeat customer.” To schedule a consultation appointment or to learn more about how The Grout Guy Inc. can benefit your home’s tile and grout, visit thegroutguy.com, on Facebook The Grout Guy Inc. or call 727213-5723. Caring for your Trees for the 2018 Hurricane Season - ALLPRO Tree and Landscaping Inc By: Tom Bostock Hurricanes are some of the most destructive forces on earth, as many Florida homeowners can attest to. Wind damage to homes and property can run into the millions of dollars. The 2018 hurricane season, according to tbo.com, will be another active year. The CSU Department of Atmospheric Science Tropical Meteorology Project’s forecast was just released Thursday. The report should serve as “a call to action” to all Florida homeowners; “70 days during which a named storm will be present, 30 hurricane days and seven major hurricane days. Median seasons see about 60 named storm days, 21 hurricane days and four major hurricane days. University of Colorado predicts “14 named storms, seven hurricanes and three major hurricanes, packing winds of at least 111 mph!” The Saffir-Simpson Hurricane wind scale paints an informative picture of potential damage to your trees from

a hurricane, particularly improperly pruned trees. Using a rating system of 1 – 5, it warns that, at 74 to 95 mph, a category 1 hurricane can cause damage. “Large branches of trees will snap, and shallowly rooted trees may be toppled,” possibly causing “extensive damage to power lines” creating outages that can last “a few to several days.” Downed trees can block roads, delaying the response time for emergency crews. Snapped branches can become lethal projectiles. The time to prepare is now. When you take the steps that you need to make your home secure, don’t forget one important element that is often overlooked and can cause damage to your home, your trees. The solution is not the removal of trees but taking proper preventative care of them. According to certified arborist and owner of ALLPRO Tree and Landscape Inc, Pete Spiridis, a lot was learned from the damage that was caused to and by neighborhood trees, during the

2017 hurricane season. He said that “more of the trees that failed were improperly pruned trees.” Proper pruning not only improves your trees’ overall health, it ensures that your family will be able to enjoy the shade of their favorite trees for many years to come. National online home service guru, Angie’s List, was impressed enough to present ALLPRO with their “Super Service Award.” The Better Business Bureau, who analyzes and rates companies, according to both
the quality of the service they provide, and the complaints received about them, awarded ALLPRO Tree and Landscaping Inc. its highest rating, an A+!!! So many of their satisfied customers are also happy to confirm the excellence of the service that they received from ALLPRO. If word of mouth advertising is the best form of
advertising, David K. is one of their best advertisers. According to David, “the service from ALLPRO was phenomenal. They were very responsive to the initial inquiry, highly competitive for the work that needed to be completed and they were extremely professional when completing the work. We are extremely pleased with ALLPRO.” Roger M. agreed as well, noting that he had used ALLPRO to remove several trees for a pool. “Job well done and will use them again.“ Susan Y. said “I would highly recommend ALLPRO Tree and Landscaping.” Julie K. was also in agreement when she said that she “can’t say enough good things about them.” Visit their website at www.myallpro.com to read more of these positive testimonials. With hurricane season just around the corner, while you are preparing your home, don’t forget your trees. Dead branches and overhanging limbs represent potential hazards. “Hearing & Balance” Continued from page 1 that causes your own to vibrate can be experiencing a decibel range the equivalent of a jet engine! Hearing impairment can impact every aspect of your life: learning, speech, understanding and engaging in social and cultural functions. A bleak prognosis, isn’t it? If you live in the Trinity area, help is as close as the caring professionals at Trinity Hearing and Balance Center. Conveniently located at 8605 Easthaven Court, Suite 101, open M-TH from 8AM to 4PM and Friday by appointment, Trinity Hearing and Balance, home of Doctor Kelly Hansen and Doctor Nikki Goldowski, is the ideal destination for both your hearing and balance problems. Besides their outstanding 4.9 online rating, see what your neighbors have to say! Gina T. has become one of their best sales people. “Every opportunity I get

to recommend this office, I sound like a sales person! It’s amazing after my first appointment how much better I felt.” Jeremy P. echoed that sentiment as well. “Dr. Hansen was very quick to respond to my inquiries. Their receptionist was very polite and informative. It’s nice not to be rushed or shrugged off.” Lynn M. was equally effusive in her praise. “What a great experience. I was a little hesitant to try hearing aids, but Trinity Hearing and the people were great. The service and helpful hints were there from start to finish. It was the best!” The helpful receptionist, mentioned by Jeremy P. is 7+ year veteran, Christine Smith, an important part of the patient experience. “I enjoy the patients and working with the doctors,” she said when asked about her job. The furnishings are sleek and modern, indicative of the cuttingedge equipment and state-of-art techniques employed to identify

and solve both hearing and balance problems. Instead of straight-laced prune who acts like she is doing you a favor, a pleasant Christine greets you with a smile as you wait for your appointment. Purdue graduate, mother of three and licensed audiologist, Dr. Kelly Hansen, is justifiably proud of her practice and the strides it has achieved since first opening more than 11 years ago. She and her associate audiologist, Doctor Nikki Goldowski, a Louisville University graduate and first- time mother-tobe, don’t believe in a “one size fits all” approach and, like the experienced carpenter who “measures twice to cut once” to provide a quality product, they conduct extensive testing before making any recommendations to their patients. Balance problems can be as simple as impacted ear wax,

something that she has the specialized equipment to easily remove, or as complicated as “otoliths,” tiny, displaced calcium carbonate crystals, causing dizziness and balance issues. Dr. Hansen explains the purchase of her special balance diagnostic and treatment system, the Epley Omniak System, on her website www.trinityhearingandbalance.com : “The Omniax System is the first technology that allows us to differentiate between the various

types of vestigular vertigo, as well as to diagnose and treat BPPV, the most common form. Hearing technology has made remarkable strides; from the coneshaped ear trumpets of the 1800’s to today’s miniaturized, almost invisible hearing aids. As a privately-owned practice, she has

access to the full spectrum of manufacturers and hearing products to custom fit the ideal solution for each patient. More importantly, Dr. Hansen noted that “it was not just the hearing aid, but the expertise of the individual fitting it.” As an “Audigy certified” professional, she certainly qualifies. Her mission statement is her promise to every patient: “At Trinity Hearing and Balance Center, we truly believe hearing and balance leads to a better life.” Dr. Hansen and Dr. Goldowski are working daily to help each patient achieve their optimum quality of life. On your left there’s a great full liquor bar with high table tops, and makes the perfect place for you to lounge and watch your favorite team play while enjoying a cold beer or your drink of choice. To your right, the spacious dining room is decorated with heirloom pieces of art that have been passed on from generation to generation and a collection of old family photos scattered upon the vintage walls with exposed brick. Taso Italiano oozes tradition while revealing Taso and his father’s culinary background and expertise. You can quickly tell that this is a family oriented restaurant meant to bring people together over the most delicious food in the neighborhood. Family-style dining reservations are encouraged for so that you and your guests can sample a little bit of everything ordered. Diversity & Excitement! - There’s Something For Everyone at Taso Italiano! Italian cuisine has been one of the best-loved styles of cooking for thousands of years for many different reasons. Throughout history, Italian dishes have combined not just the best local ingredients but the best exotic ingredients as well, and Taso Italiano does this lifelong tradition justice. Taso Italiano is a place where traditional preparation of fresh ingredients, serving authentic italian cuisine is what they do. “Cooking is in our blood” says Taso. “Our meals are carefully chosen and prepared from recipes handed down from generation to generation. We have a scratch kitchen, meaning everything is made to order using the freshest ingredients available.” Different regions of Italy are famous for very specific dishes and local ingredients. The Northern region is home to some of the best pasta and risotto dishes, while the Western cuisine is comprised largely

of fish and vegetables, usually prepared and served with fresh tomatoes, olives and nuts. The Eastern region is influenced in part by bordering countries, so we see a diverse use of dairy and cheeses with the addition of freshwater fish, pork, cured ham, and local wines. While the Southern half of Italy is a treasure trove of tastes and styles. Much of the traditional Italian food current recognized is from this area. While beef and larger livestock are not as prevalent, there is still a variety of meat, dairy and eggs, making the south a true culinary paradise that is also heavily influenced by other Mediterranean cooking styles. Luckily, you don’t have to travel all across Italy to enjoy the food from each region, Taso Italiano’s menu features a wide variety of popular dishes from all over Italy right here in your neighborhood. “We try to accommodate a very diverse audience,” says Taso. “Our extensive menu offers something for everyone!” From spectacular pizzas to juicy steaks, to the most mouth watering seafood dishes, and a

lasagna so big you will not be able to finish, dining at Taso Italiano is truly a culinary feast that even the native Italians will love. "We are Italian. My mother was born in Italy. This food was actually better than hers,” says Teresa S. about her recent experience at Taso Italiano. “The ingredients they use make everything taste amazing! We plan on going regularly. Make sure you try some Sambuca or Limoncello with your expresso, it’s amazing! WE LOVE THIS PLACE.” With delicious beginnings such as the bruschetta pomodoro, the clams oreganata or the baked stuffed mushrooms, you will have a hard time choosing only one starter. I personally loved the Antipasto, which features rollatines of imported Italian cured meats, imported cheeses, artichokes and a colorful mix of olives, sliced cherry peppers and gardinier finished with EVOO. I also recommend the signature calamari; flash fried and seasoned, drizzled with roasted garlic basil aioli and balsamic reduction. For main course the Pork Ossobucco is a big customer favorite.

Slow roasted, fall off the bone pork shank, served with pappardelle pasta. My father was a big seafood lover, so anywhere we went he would always order a seafood dish called Frutti di Mare, which means Fruits of the sea. Taso Italiano’s rendition of this traditional dish was nothing short of perfection. Mussels, clams, calamari and perfectly cooked shrimp served over linguine. This dish can be made to order with your choice of marinara, bianco (white sauce) or fra diavolo (a little spicy, and my personal favorite style.) Make sure you leave some room for dessert, and try either their homemade cannoli or their tiramisu (also made in house). If you’re coming with your little one (s) Taso Italiano offers a special “Bambini Menu” that features delicious options like; Spaghetti and Meatball Pizza, Baked Ziti, Chicken Tenders and Fries, Baked Cheese Ravioli and Baked Mac & Cheese amongst others. With so many great entrees, an inviting atmosphere, remarkable customer service and fantastic 5 star reviews online, Taso Italiano can easily be considered a fine dining experience, Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles

but Taso prefers to stay away from that terminology when it comes to labeling his restaurant. “I don’t want to be considered ‘Fine Dining’ because people perceive it as expensive, and we’re not,” says Taso. “We offer an affordable dining experience that anyone can enjoy!” “Whether you want to come dressed casually and order some sandwiches or pizzas to enjoy with your friends, or be all formally dressed up for a romantic evening with your partner and order some nice steaks and a bottle of wine, you’re always Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles
