Dr. Franceschi Gives Patients Back Their Smiles By Deborah Bostock-Kelley

Dr. Gianni Franceschi, DDS, FICOI (pictured left) knew exactly his career path at a very early age. At age 13, he had a French class dissertation, and the topic was what he wanted to be when he grew up. The answer was a no-brainer; he’d always had excellent experiences with his family dentist and was impressed with his professionalism

Fantastic Sam’s Offers Awesome Haircuts at “Fantastic” Prices! By Joy Bergman Nowadays, with so many salons and barbers to choose from, you’d think that it would be easy to find a good haircut. But the reality is, it’s not so simple. And if it’s hard just to find a good trim, how hard is it to have another special service performed, like highlights, specialty styles, or perms? You might just hop into your car and try a random salon, hoping for the best, but end up disappointed.

Young Johnny Franceschi was going to be a dentist. “At the end of my class, I remember my teacher Mrs. Patoskay came up to me and pointed her finger at me and said, ‘you know, Gianni, I really can see you as a dentist,’” he said. “That stuck with me. Tech Talk with Bob - “The Call”: Did you get the Call?

By Bob Dalles Did you get the call? If so, what did you do? Did your friends get the call? If so, what did they do? Maybe neither one of you got the call… yet. What will you or your friends do when you get the call? Well, I am going to help you with this situation. This information can save you hundreds of dollars! Criminals are working their way through the internet looking for people to scam. I personally have received “the call” several times myself. My mom received it last month. These scam artists will call you and identify themselves as representatives of a reputable company, like Microsoft, Apple, etc. The caller tells you that a corruption was identified on your computer. Then offer you a free scan of your computer to verify the corruption. Most people will be happy to agree to do this because it is FREE. For these criminals to run this free scan they

8 MAY 2022

must be in control of your computer. They ask you to log onto the internet with your computer, download a file and run it. The caller starts the scan. Now they have you. Once you download that file, you are in trouble. You should be able to observe the scan from your computer screen. The caller will chit chat with you about the scan and then move the conversation to more personal information like your name, address, phone number and email address. When the scan is finished the caller will confirm that you have the corruption and assure you, they can fix it right now. Most people get worried when they hear there is a problem with their computer, so they tell the caller to fix it. However, now the caller proceeds to ask for credit card information because they were not hired by Microsoft, Apple, etc. They want your money. Many people will pay thinking everything is fine. Others will say no because they thought that this was a free offer to find and fix the corruption. If you refuse to pay, the caller may make threats like saying your computer is going to crash or you may not be able to connect to the internet. The file they ask you to download and run to scan your system may actually sabotage your computer. So, if you refuse to pay, you may have unknowingly introduced the caller’s corruption into your computer. $499.00 is the typical amount they ask for; however higher amounts have been reported. Here’s the catch: The scan to confirm the existence of the “so

called corruption” was FREE, to fix the corruption will cost you. Here’s the BIGGER catch: you do not have the corruption they are trying to convince you you have. This whole call is a hoax. They want to scare you into thinking you have a corruption and offer you a way to diagnose it for FREE. And then get you to pay for the fix. Many people become victims of this scam. It has been around for a long time because it works and makes these criminals a lot of money. Now that you are aware of this scam, you will not become one of their victims. So, what do you do when you get this type of call? Hang up. As long as you hang up before downloading and running the scan file the caller instructs you to download. If you have already downloaded the scan file, then you will want to immediately turn off your computer and call me at 727-534-4000 to check your computer to verify it is not infected or otherwise compromised. Until then, leave it off. Are you certain your computer is safe? You don’t have to do this alone my Friend. My staff and I are here to keep your computer safer and keep it running. My team repairs computers and secures them, on our bench, onsite in your home or office, and even remotely. We have the best solutions already in place and we’re only a phone call away. Call us anytime at 727-534-4000. We’ve been helping folks restore their peace of mind, and sanity, with their technology for decades. We Keep You Safer In Your Digital World!

SAT AND ACT IMPROVEMENT: END OF SCHOOL YEAR By Dr. Wayne Adams Upcoming Exam Dates: SAT on June 4th and August 27th; … ACT on June 11th, and July 16th. May is one of the most intriguing months on the school calendar with AP Exams (ouch! or hooray!), most seniors having some level of “senioritis”, juniors anticipating being the “top dogs” next year, and sophomores feeling a little “salty” as they move towards finishing the year. Then there is the question, “What about those SAT and/or ACT Exams? Right now I have SENIORS intently working to boost their scores to qualify for the 75% or 100% Bright Futures’ Scholarship. The good news about Bright Futures is the last exams to qualify are the SAT on June 4th, and the ACT on June 11th. And each of these exams has some days after school is done for final studying. Sometimes this involves the full exam, sometimes only one or two areas in what we call “SKILL STRENGTHENING”. One student in the verbal strengthening came to me with a 520, over 150 points below her math score. Now, she is testing at a 650+ range in Writing and Language and Reading which combine into what I call the “Verbal” score. Another on the ACT is working on his math and science, which have already jumped four points in each category. One of my current seniors has already scored a 1540 on his

10 MAY 2022

SAT, and wants to aim for a 1600 to improve his chances of admission to his “dream school”. Two years ago I helped a young lady from Palm Harbor University High School with the same profile and goal, and she did score a 1600 on her SAT. Most of my JUNIORS would like to hit their desired scoring levels in spring or summer so they don’t have to worry about this factor during their senior year. Usually, these students have relatively high GPAs, but lower than expected exam scores. The good news is this type of student usually “takes off” with their exam scores after they build on their current, academic foundation with our techniques, increasing familiarity witH “curve balls”(those questions seldom encountered but when it happens a student either knows how to do them or is guessing), and, of course, reducing the number of questions where a student has to guess. Many of my current SOPHOMORES/RISING JUNIORS are getting familiar with the exam(s) and preparing for the PSAT next October which is the only national qualifying exam for National Merit Scholarships. Having helped three National Merit Finalists, qualifying can mean major, additional scholarships and a strong position for applying to “Top 5” through “Top 25” schools. My JUNIORS and some SOPHOMORES are usually focused on getting ahead with preparing for the SAT

and/or ACT and either work over the spring, or get set to prepare starting right after school finishes for the ACT in mid-July and/or the SAT the last Saturday in August. For students wanting to do a combination class of ACT and SAT, we can finish either the week just before school resumes in August (with a complementary, additional review class the week before the SAT), or the week before the actual SAT Exam. During the summer, we easily schedule around family vacations, summer jobs, athletic commitments, and “surprises” as they may arise. If You Would Like To Talk More About Your Student … Please contact me at 727253-0639 or send me an email at wwa0811@mykolab. com. Dr. Wayne Adams is one of the leading SAT and ACT tutors in the country. His students normally improve 200+ points on the Writing, Reading, Writing and Essay, and Math, and 4 – 7 points on the ACT composite. They have been admitted to 8 of the top 10 universities in the

country, 18 of the top 25, and many schools in Florida. These schools include Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Stanford, U Chicago, Duke, U Penn, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, Notre Dame, Emory, UC Berkley, UCLA, USC, UNC (Chapel Hill), NYU, Northeastern (Boston), Boston College, Georgia Tech, Naval - Air Force - Merchant Marine Service Academies, Penn State, LSU, Auburn, UF, U Miami, FSU, USF, UCF, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, FIU, New College of Florida, Stetson, and Julliard – Manhattan - New England - and Berkley Conservatories of Music. Many have received academic, athletic, or music scholarships. This year, he also tutored three juniors who scored at the national merit finalist/semi-finalist levels on the most recent PSAT. He is a former Dean of a Graduate School of Business and Full Professor, and began college teaching at the University of Maryland in 1968. He has degrees and advanced studies at Harvard, Yale, Vanderbilt, Columbia International, and Luther Rice.

Fantastic Sams - story continued from page 1 If this has been you, then you’ll be happy to know that your worries about finding a great salon are over. At the Fantastic Sam’s in River Crossings, you can expect highlytrained and passionate stylists that truly bring “fantastic” to the area! Salon owner Jon Bennett first began opening up several Fantastic Sam’s locations for his late wife Kim in 1991. Kim was a talented hairdresser who had dreamed of owning her own salons, and for many years, the happy couple ran them successfully. Although Kim had passed away, Jon has continued her legacy by operating 10 of the finest Fantastic Sam’s salons in the Bayarea, including the favored River Crossings location. While Jon has operated this store for five years, he and his new store manager, Elda Careaga, are thrilled to share all the latest updates that this gorgeous salon has to offer. “I haven’t been to this location in several years,” local guide Amanda S. writes. “It’s now under new management, and I was blown away by the staff and my new hair cut.” If anyone understands the complications of explaining what kind of haircut they’re after, it’s Amanda.

18 MAY 2022

She continues by saying, “When I get a haircut, I know a rough idea of what I want, but never know if it will work with my hair, etc. So I pretty much leave it up to my stylist. My stylist today nailed exactly what I wanted, without me even knowing exactly... Happy client :) Thank you!” In order to provide the best hair services, you have to hire the best in the business! With professional stylists like Elda and her team, you can rest easy knowing that you will get the results you want. Elda herself has more than 25 years of styling experience, and has even ran her own salon in New York City for a decade. The veteran stylist has also successfully worked in Miami as an “onbase stylist/barber” for U.S. Air Force service members and their families. Elda also gained more experience in the Hollywood, Florida area, before moving with her family to Tampa Bay, where she has been working at the Fantastic Sam’s since last September. “[We are] the most budget friendly salon,” she shares. “We’re delivering quality cuts at a very good price.” And the feedback definitely proves it! Client Lisa commented, “It is so nice to find a salon that is close to home, clean, reasonably priced, and where the ladies know their craft well.” In fact, due to the

excellent prices and amazing services, some clientele from high-end salons, often choose Fantastic Sam’s as their “go-to salon” instead.

And it’s obvious as to why, with such caring staff who offer the very best in hair products. “Let me start by saying, I have been to many

high-end salons, but none of them have compared to the quality and end results I have gotten from Mary Beth!” Impressed client Jen praised. “She knows exactly the color/highlights that look best with my skin tone, PLUS for a way more reasonable price. Mary Beth truly cares about the work she does and it shows!” If you’re in need of a simple trim, take advantage of the regular shampoo and haircut deal for only $17.00, which includes a tousle dry. While this is already a stellar price, check out the “Night Owl Special” where cuts and shampoos are merely

Once your hair is cut to your liking, sit back and relax, and enjoy some Fantastic Sam’s signature shampoo therapy, which includes a calming neck massage. Nervous about taking your little one for a trim? No worries! The staff are great with kids and help them feel comfortable while providing exceptional cuts. For those looking to add some color to their locks, check out Fantastic Sam’s “Color Days” special! This fun special runs Mondays through Wednesdays, and starts at $45. To

top it off, Fantastic Sam’s offers Olaplex treatment, which is a high-end protective product that contains no ammonia and provides optimum coverage for those with colored hair. There are plenty of signature Fantastic Sam’s products to fall in love with that can be purchased in-store as well. At the first appointment with Smiles of Trinity, the patient has a complete set of high-resolution, low radiation digital x-rays. As needed, a state-ofthe-art low radiation 3-D scan is used for various surgeries, bone grafts, and implants. “Since finances are important to everyone, I always try to create VALUE. When restorations last a very long time and are comfortable, that is the ultimate in value. Not only do you not need to remake the restoration a few years later, but, more importantly, we don’t need to re-drill the tooth. Therefore, we conserve tooth structure, which, in turn, gives a stronger foundation.” Through his office, Smiles of Trinity, Dr. Franceschi provides cosmetic and surgical dentistry and general dentistry in a relaxing environment, offering

full mouth rehabilitation and reconstruction. The practice can accommodate something as simple as a single tooth issue to full-mouth rehabilitation. Services include cosmetic dentistry porcelain veneers, tooth bonding, whitening, recontouring; general dentistry – toothcolored, natural-looking fillings, dental cleanings, mouthguards, and sedation dentistry; and restorative dentistry - bridges, crowns, dentures, and partials; oral surgery – tooth extraction, bone grafts, implants; TMJ treatment, headache treatment, and periodontal therapy. Emergency dental service is available within 24 hours, usually the same day. “The whole examination process is a little different. We are very thorough in everything we do. We’re mindful of the entire chewing system. We don’t just look at teeth; we look at the whole masticatory system.

Got Her Head in the Game!

Girls lacrosse player, Eva Risinger from Mitchell High, represents excellence By Mattox Sartori Playing on the lacrosse team for all three years of her high school career so far, Eva Risinger was selected as the Gregg Schindler Female Student Athlete at J.W. Mitchell High School for May. Risinger started her lacrosse career at the age of seven, where she first played on a boy’s lacrosse league named the Thundering Herd. Shortly after, in middle school, she met her future high school coach and teacher, Lindsay Hoskins. Coach Hoskins witnessed Eva excel over the past four years of coaching her. “Eva is constantly trying to improve not only her skill, but her IQ on the field. One of the biggest changes I’ve seen her make is how she watches game film. She doesn’t just look at what she is doing at any moment but also what her teammates and the other team is doing. This has allowed her to see more of the field while playing and make adjustments from game to game which is a big reason she is so consistent, regardless of the opponent,” Coach Hoskins said. Throughout the past three years of her

Risinger’s position on the lacrosse field is attack. The attacker’s job is to receive the ball from the midfielders in transition, and set up the offense. Risinger sees benefit for her future by playing on the lacrosse team, and has not ruled out playing in college. “If I could go somewhere I would try to go somewhere that is either Division 1 or

My favorite aspect of playing the sport is getting to have fun with an amazing team all year because they are like a family and you can always count on them,” Risinger said. In just three years of playing for the high school, Risinger was able to achieve top goal scorer for the girl’s lacrosse team. “I see a ton of

potential for Eva in lacrosse. I think that she has the ability to play at the next level if that is something she desires to do. Beyond that, I think she could make a great coach one day because of her ability to break the game down and see things that others don’t notice,” Coach Hoskins said. With one more season left of her high school career it is predicted that Risinger’s stats should escalate, setting a higher score for the upcoming teammates to attempt to beat.

Lax to the Max!

Chris Ferrini, the captain of the varsity boy’s lacrosse team at J.W. Mitchell Hifh School, was awarded the Gregg Schindler Male Student Athlete for May.

By Hanna CarberrySimmering

As the J.W. Mitchell varsity boys lacrosse season came to an end, so did Chris Ferrini’s first season as captain. This year, Ferrini helped lead the Mustangs to their first district championship for lacrosse in school and county history. With 19 games played this season, the boys won 15, with 2 of them being districts. Their last championship matchup was on April 27. “We had a successful year; our goal was to win districts and we did it,” Ferrini said In addition to being a leader on the field, he volunteers his time with the Wolves Lacrosse Club, coaching the youth and the future of the program. The Wolves Lacrosse Club goes on for eight weeks during the summer with practices and games once a week. J.W. Mitchell High Coach Ethan

Photo by Bella Melby-Mazzei Quinlan and school administration nominated Ferrini for the Gregg Schindler Male Student Athlete of The Month. “Chris is the first player in Mitchell lacrosse history to record over 100 points in a season,” Coach Quinlan said. Ferrini finished this season with a schoolrecord of 70 goals in one season and 44 assists. This year, the

team became closer by bonding at long practices and getting together at Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park to practice their shooting. This helped them improve throughout the season and be able to come back better than before. “As a team, we have come a long way. In the beginning of the year, we lost to Steinbrenner by 2 and we just beat them by 5.

Everyone knows what their job is so we play really well now,” Ferrini said. The boys won the game against Steinbrenner by a score of 12-7. As a junior in high school, Ferrini hopes to play either football or lacrosse in college. Congratulations to Chris Ferrini, Gregg Schindler Male Student Athlete of The Month.

and tile to its original beauty by cleaning and maintaining the tile and grout lines. Jeremy G. and his wife were ready to re-tile their entire bathroom before calling BJ at Grout Tech. “Our bathroom tile was over 40 years old it was looking grungy and very dull. We called Grout Tech and we are extremely pleased with our results! We saved so much money by having the grout in our shower resurfaced and the tile cleaned and it looks brand new.” BJ is happy to set your appointment, come out and give you a free estimate. She stresses, “It is important for me to be respectful of our customers’ time so I will always arrive at the time we set.” In addition to always

arriving in a timely manner, BJ says that they can keep their prices low because they are a family owned business and not a franchise. She explains, “What many people don’t understand is that franchises are often forced to charge more for their services because they have to maintain their franchise fees, but not with Grout Tech.” Not only does Grout Tech keep its rates competitive, but the company will also honor any other quote as long as it is in writing. Because grout is a porous material, trying to remove stains is seemingly impossible. BJ explains, “Color sealing grout lines is one of the many services we offer and

it is definitely the most effective way to create a perfect, new look.” Using a step-bystep process, Grout Tech begins by using a cleansing product to remove all bacteria and surface dirt with special machinery. They will then apply a color seal (of your choice). Once the sealer is applied the grout lines will be permanently protected from any stains. The color seal also guarantees against cracking, chipping and peeling. Additionally, they will also cosmetically fix or replace chipped or cracked tiles, making your bathroom or kitchen tile like new again. Kathy G., a satisfied customer, shares her
