Cornerstone Pros Has You Covered for Air Conditioning, Plumbing and Electrical By Deborah Bostock-Kelley Imagine July in Florida, a humid 98 degrees at the heart of summer. You insert your key in the front door and enter your home, expecting a cool reprieve from the sweltering heat. Instead you are greeted by a temperature equal to the outside. What happened to your air-conditioning? As perspiration drips down
your face and your shirt sticks to your back, you grab a bottled water from your refrigerator and you Google on your cell phone a reliable repair company to call. While removing a glass from your cupboard, you happen to notice a clog in your kitchen sink – which is difficult to see because the kitchen light struggles to come fully on.

A Passion for Real Estate – Denise Denver P.A. – RE/MAX By Tom Bostock There are several misconceptions when it comes to real estate transactions: Selling your home is as simple as putting a sign in your front yard or a post on the Internet and waiting for the buyers to come flocking to your door? Buying one should be just as easy; you drive around the neighborhood that you want to live in, find the perfect house and
negotiate the purchase. What could be simpler than that? Here are just a few of the many questions that you might want to ask yourself before you jump from “the frying pan into the fire” with a real estate transaction: Are you getting the most for your home? Are you paying too much for the next one? Do you know how to determine its true market value? See “Denise Denver” on page 36

Happy Mother’s Day, May The 4th be with you! May is full of holidays, proclamations, awareness events, and tacos, yes… tacos! Let’s start with Memorial Day. Formally known as Decoration Day, this is a Federal holiday observed yearly on the last Monday of May. This year, Memorial Day falls on May 27th, 2019, and it is a day to commemorate all men and women who have died while serving in the military for the United States of America. Many amazing troop supporters, and local business owners will be offering Memorial Day specials, one-of-a-kind offers, and fantastic discounts on merchandise, products, and services. Make sure to carefully browse this issue of Tampa Bay News and Lifestyles, so you can take advantage of those great deals and save big this upcoming Memorial Day. Apart from Memorial day, the month of May houses a few other special days as well. The 2nd Sunday of May we celebrate International Mother’s Day. I would like to personally wish my mother, Berardina Tedeschi, a very Happy Mother’s Day. I couldn’t have asked for a better role model. I love you! To all mother’s, grandmothers, great grandmothers, and foster moms, I wish you a very Happy Mother’s Day! Remember, successful mothers are not the ones that never struggle or get frustrated; they are the ones that never give up, despite the struggles and continue loving unconditionally. Star Wars fans? May the 4th be with you! Star Wars Day, May 4, celebrates George Lucas’ Star Wars. Fans of the media franchise observe it by re-watching the Star Wars movies, wearing costumes, sharing movie quotes and posting funny memes on social media. The date was chosen for the pun on the catchphrase “May The Force Be With You” as “May The Fourth Be With You.” Also in May, many U.S citizens look forward to “Cinco de Mayo,” which is a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. You wouldn’t guess it, but Cinco de Mayo is a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, but in the United States has evolved into a huge commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage, and the Holiday its frequently confused
with “Mexico’s Independence Day,” which takes place on September 16th. Lastly, I want to bring your attention to something of importance that also takes place during the month of May; Lyme Disease Awareness Month. Many states and counties have taken steps to raise awareness regarding Lyme and tick-borne diseases. Declaring May “Lyme Awareness Month,” is one move to help remind people spring is here, ticks are out, prevention and proper education are your best tools to staying healthy. With the spread of the disease to all 50 states, Lyme awareness, education, and early intervention are critical. Even though Lyme disease may not be too common here in Florida, you can still get infected. Take it from someone who is currently battling this debilitating and life-altering condition. I spent several years not knowing what was wrong with me, not understanding why I was feeling so sick and tired all of the time, until I was properly diagnosed by an infectious disease doctor about five months ago. Please be prepared and learn the signs and symptoms of Lyme disease. If you have symptoms such as; high fevers, chills, body aches, weight gain/loss, TMJ, headaches/migraines, fatigue, muscle and joint aches, arthritis with severe joint pain and swelling, particularly on the knees and other large joints, heart palpitations or an irregular heartbeat, and problems with short-term memory amongst others, please contact your primary physician. Ask him or her, to advise you and refer you to a Lyme Disease specialist near you. Fighting Lyme has been an uphill battle, but with the proper treatment, I am finally feeling like myself again. It’s been tough to open up to everyone about this, but if I can help raise awareness with my own story, then so be it. If your health fails, it can overshadow everything else that’s going on in your life. Take care of yourself, eat a healthy diet, make sleep a priority, find a fitness habit that works for you and don’t get too stressed out. Stress can wreak havoc on your body. Until next time! Carla Selby.
Tech Talk with Bob: I Think I’ve Been Scammed! By Bob Dalles Cybercriminals are using successful techniques in their quest to separate you from your money. I have been receiving an onslaught of calls lately from folks saying, “I think I’ve been scammed! What do I do now?” My friend Kathryn fell victim to a scammer just last week. She was minding her own business surfing the web when a message popped-up on her screen. This “official looking” pop-up message instructed her to call a specific phone number because she had “a malware infection that needed immediate attention.” If that wasn’t bad enough, she also found herself locked out of her computer. It was frozen. No mouse. No keyboard. She felt her only option was to call the phone number on the screen. Which she did. By the time those scammers finished with her they had not only taken control of her computer, but also convinced her
6 MAY 2019
that they could restore it to working order once she paid them $499.00. Which she did. These scammers called it a service charge. I call it extortion. Now mind you, Kathryn is a bright, intelligent woman who would typically never get taken for a ride by such crooks. But these cybercriminals are extremely good at what they do. They constantly hone their skills conning trusting people who think they’re in trouble. Why do they do it? Scamming people in this fashion has proven to be extremely profitable. Few get caught. Most are offshore. Your best defense is internet safety awareness and developing safer online habits. So, what do you do if you get a popup on your screen that tells you to call a phone number or click on a link? Take a picture of your screen with your cell phone. Be sure any phone number or website address is readable. Do not click on any links.
Do not call any phone numbers. Have your system examined for malware by a technology professional. Do not conduct any transactions involving private or sensitive information until you know your system is squeaky clean. What do you do if you receive a phone call from a stranger telling you that you have a malware infection or something else is wrong with your computer? Immediately hang up. Do not engage them in conversation. If they call back, hang up again or don’t even answer. What do you do if you have already downloaded their software to give them control of your computer? Immediately turn your computer off. If you leave it on, they can monitor your activity, steal your data, and even ransom it. Leave your computer off until a professional looks over your system. What do you do if you have given them your credit card
number? Immediately call your card issuer and have your card and the transaction cancelled. Don’t wait to get your credit card statement. Call your bank and deal with this as soon as it happens. Some banks may require you to file a police report.

This story does have a happy ending. I was able to purge the malware from Kathryn’s computer and give it a clean bill of health. She called her bank. They flagged the transaction for their fraud division; cancelled Kathryn’s credit card; and had a new card in the mail to her the very next day. If Kathryn had done nothing, she would have been scammed out of nearly 500-bucks. But even worse, those crooks would still have control of her computer. They could spy on her or ransom her computer whenever they felt like it. Kathryn changed from being a passive victim to a vigilant internet user by recognizing and taking immediate control of her situation. These crooks can be intimidating. They’re relentless. They prey on a person’s fear of, and inexperience with, technology. Every time I speak with a victim of this scam, they always say the same thing. “I can’t believe I fell for it.” Sometimes their embarrassment of being scammed prohibits them from reaching out for help. Kathryn felt less violated when SHE took control of the situation. Be safer not sorrier. You do not have to be a casualty of these high-tech outlaws. If you are not sure your system is safe, please have it looked over by a Professionally Certified Computer Technician. If you need a certified professional, call us now at 727-534-4000. We’ve been helping folks restore their peace of mind, and sanity, with their technology for decades. Have a tech question? Email it to TechTalk-TBNL@ BobTheComputerGuy.NET. Your Eye Care Professional in New Port Richey – Dr. Margaret Dhima By Tom Bostock According to the freedictionary. com, an optometrist is “a person who is professionally trained and licensed to examine the eyes for visual defects, diagnose problems or impairments, and prescribe corrective lenses or provide other types of treatment. In the New Port Richey area, that certainly defines the outstanding services provided by Dr. Margaret Argiropoulos-Dhima of Longleaf Eye Care, but don’t believe me, see what some of her satisfied patients wrote. “Dr. Dhima is the only doctor for me and my family to go to for our eye exams. She is always so caring and makes you feel like you’re family. SHE IS THE BEST!”
8 MAY 2019
“Dr. Dhima is a very caring and very competent doctor. I never had any issues with my glasses of contact prescriptions. Also, her staff at the desk are very friendly and very professional.” Healthgrades.com, an online medical review site, assessed Dr. Dhima’s practice and overall performance with a resounding 5-star rating in all categories, including “trustworthiness, explains condition(s) well, answers questions, and time well spent.” Her office and staff performance equally rated 5 stars in “scheduling, office environment and staff friendliness.” Earning her Doctor of
Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2003, after receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, Dr. Dhima continued to enhance her knowledge of optometry with multiple

As one post on Facebook that depicts Dr. Dhima and an assistant, notes, “Dr. Dhima and her assistant Courtney are excited about the quality of the images they are getting from their new DRS camera, as well as how quick and easy it is to use. The doctor is able to review images with her patients during the exam via computers in each room.”
Married with 2 children, although Dr, Dhima was Americanborn, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, she spent a great deal of her early child in Greece. She has been practicing optometry for more than 16 years now, emphasizing primary care and contact lenses. She even provides both pre-and post-cataract surgery co-management for her patients. In her spare time, Dr, Dhima and her husband enjoy traveling, trying new cuisines, and going to the beach.

“Cornerstone”
continued from page 1
Before collapsing into a moment of deep despair, envision a telephone number you can contact where each issue – airconditioning, plumbing, and electrical – are conveniently remedied by a single phone call. Though the scenario was extremely fabricated, the resolution is not. Founded on faith and family in Land O’Lakes, Cornerstone Pros, a womanowned business, is proud to offer the Tampa Bay community licensed air conditioning, heating, plumbing and electrical service providers 24/7. “We developed our company on our values and integrity. We try to be a good example in the community and serving the Lord in that process,” said owner Dana Spears. First opened in 2006 to service customer airconditioning needs, in 2011 Dana got her plumbing license and a plumbing division was added. Finally to compliment these two services, in 2014, the electrical division was formed. “We felt there was great demand from our customers to have one company to provide all of their home services,” said owner Dana Spears. Cornerstone Pros is a 10 MAY 2019
family business with 10 family members working together with other employees, totaling over 66. “We try to keep our ‘family-owned and operated’ reputation strong,” she said. “Customer service is what our company was built on and we are very proud of our online ratings. We understand that there are many tradespeople out there that know the mechanical side of our industry, but we felt that there wasn’t a very strong presence for customer service and meeting customer needs.” Coming from a customer support background, Dana made it her goal to combine exemplary customer support with qualified technicians. “We’ve built our business on meeting our customers’ needs, providing them with a service that they deserve and I think it has worked very well for us.” Such services include maintenance, repair and replacement to your airconditioning unit. To ensure your a/c is in tip-top shape for the upcoming scorching summer months, Dana recommends checkups and tune ups before the heatwave hits. “Having us come out every 6 to 12 months to clean and check your drain lines and a/c system will extend the life of your system. It gives you that forewarning like ‘we’ve had to replace a few parts
this year, your warranty is almost up and would you be interested in looking at replacement or do you want to wait until it dies’”? For this service, Cornerstone Pros provides maintenance tech, not service techs troubleshooting, but techs specifically trained to performed maintenance. A recommendation sheet allows the customer to know of any findings. To save on your electric bills, Cornerstone Pros specializing in electric and gas tankless water heaters to replace outdated and energy
deficient water heaters. Not only do the old-fashioned 40-50-gallon standard water heaters take up space, they add cost to your monthly electric bill. Cornerstone Pro’s certified experts can tackle any electrical need in your home including adding or replacing lighting and fixtures, replacing or installing ceiling fans, installing LED, cables for cameras, media equipment and panel upgrades. Cornerstone Pros offers a maintenance program for all three of their trades – Air-

Conditioning, Plumbing and Electrical. “We come out every 6 months for a/c. We do a home inspection on your plumbing and electrical once a year. We’ve really found that it gives our customers peace of mind.” She explained that if a customer is on the maintenance program and does have an emergency, not only will you take priority, you get additional savings on services needed. Cornerstone Pros services all brands and will provide you with a free estimate on installations or a second opinion on repairs. They make it a point to get to emergency calls within the same day. A flat-fee company, Cornerstone Pros offers upfront pricing so there are no surprises. With hurricane season beginning in June, to protect your home from electricity loss, Cornerstone Pros offers free estimates for full-home generators. During the hurricane that left entire cities without power, Dana
said the generator allowed them to run their business. Cornerstone Pros installs Generac Home Standby Generators and if the electricity does go out at your home, your power will transfer smoothly to the generator. “We were without power at our office for 7 days, but we installed the standby generator and were able to get our office running 2 days after the storm,” she said. From a clogged sink to a whole home re-pipe, customers have trusted Cornerstone Pros to fix their plumbing issues quickly, reliably and with integrity. In addition to expert plumbing services, Cornerstone can install personalized well water treatment and water purification systems. These systems will both remove impurities from your water and improve its taste. The removal of hard water can prevent fixtures in your home from discoloring and rusting, increasing the life of your appliances.
As most people don’t plan for their a/c to die, home to need re-piping, or water heater to need replacing, Cornerstone Pros offers convenient financing options for every budget. Financing is also available for generators and water purification systems. What’s most important to Dana is ensuring her customers receive the best service possible, no matter what trade service is being provided. “We want to build enduring long-term relationships with our

Tampa Bay Lightning - The Season That Got Away... Again.
By Tom Bostock When Sir Fredrick Arthur Stanley (Lord Stanley of Preston) first donated a trophy cup to the championship hockey team of Canada in 1892, little did he realize how coveted his cup would become in the professional ice hockey world. Over the years, storied teams like the Montreal Canadians (23), Toronto Maple Leaf’s (13) and Detroit Redwings (11), to name a few of the winning NHL teams, have won the prized cup multiple times. (thoughtco.com). It is the ultimate achievement in professional hockey. The fledgling hockey team that was awarded to Lightning founders, Phil Esposito, Henry Lee Paul and Mel Lowell during the league expansion in 1991, which began play in 1992 and was assigned to the Norris Division of the Campbell conference, appeared to pose no apparent threat to the established Northern teams in the National Hockey League. All of that changed in 2004 when Lightning
14 MAY 2019
Captain, Dave Andreychuk victoriously hoisted famed Lord Stanley’s Cup, after beating the Calgary Flames in the final of their 7-game series, announcing to the hockey world that the upstart Tampa Bay Lightning were for now for real! Today’s Tampa Bay Lightning seemingly put an exclamation point on how real they were, joining only 2 other teams in the history of the NHL with 60 wins, enjoying the rarefied air of only the 1976-77 Montreal Canadians and the 1995-96 Detroit Redwings. A recent 5 - 2 win over the Senators, with Yanni Goure’s 2 goal, 1 assist performance, helped clinched their 60th win in grand fashion. All eyes were on those final games and then the Lightning’s Stanley Cup run. Their 61st and 62nd win, a drubbing of the Bruins, ended their regular season, fueling fan expectations of greater things to come. Injuries impact team performance and the Lightning were no exception. According to ESPN.com, from information provided by rotowire.com, Lightning
stalwart defenseman Victor Hedman would not be active again until the playoffs. Since the Lightning had already secured their playoff berth, resting the injured defenseman seemed like a good idea. Joe Smith of The Athletic reported that head coach, Jon Cooper said that Hedman (upper body) was doubtful to suit up for the rest of the regular season. Not wishing to repeat last year’s loss to the Washington Capitals in the Eastern Conference finals, it seemed like a good idea at the time to have a well-rested Hedman. The Tampa Bay Lightning looked forward to the playoffs with a wealth of offensive talent and highscoring lines to choose from. A fan favorite, Russian born Nikita Kucherov had taken the Lightning by storm, beginning to challenge ever consistent team captain, Steven Stamkos, for supremacy on the ice. He seemed destined for a greatness in the playoffs that was not to be. According to all the sports pundits and talking heads, the Lightning were poised to go deep into the playoffs; they were both fans’ and sports book favorites to win this year’s Stanley Cup. To win, the Lightning needed to overcome some old habits. Diana C. Nearhos, in a Tampa Bay Times article, reminded fans that the Lightning had to come from behind in each of its final four games. Twice they were able to complete the comeback for a win in those final regular season
games. The playoffs proved something else entirely! Having closed out the regular season with a final drubbing of the Bruins 6 -3, to reach 62 wins, the Lightning breathed the rarified air of only one other 62-win team in the entire history of the NHL, the 1995-1996 Detroit Redwings, but apparently were too preoccupied reading their own press clippings to pay attention to what happened to Detroit in the playoffs; they did not win the Stanley Cup that year. The fact that the Lightning spotted the Bruins 2 goals before they scored their first one in their final game of the season should have been a reminder to the Lightning of what could and did happen in the playoffs, just as it happened to Detroit. An unstoppable, impregnable juggernaut of offense, defense and goal tending took to the ice that first playoff game, pounding the other, ill prepared team into utter submission. Didn’t you just love the final battle in the seventh and deciding game? Oh, that’s right, there was no seventh, or sixth or even fifth game, for that matter. And surprisingly enough, the unstoppable offensive juggernaut wore the colors of the lowly Bluejackets, led by former Lightning coach, John Tortorella, a man on a mission. In an interview, after the complete annihilation of the favorite Lightning in a 4 -game sweep, John revealed his secret to the wins; he told his team to
For Advertising Info 727-943-0551 I info@nnlflorida.com or visit tbnewsandlifestyles.com
focus on one game at time. The Lightning, on the other hand, didn’t seem to focus on much of anything. Out shot, outscored and out of position in many instances, they skated their way to hockey immortality; the first team to win the President’s Trophy for scoring the most points in the regular season and then being swept in the first round of the playoffs, 6-3, 5-1, 3-1, and 7-3! Close only counts in horseshoes and this Lightning team didn’t even get a whiff of Lord Stanley’s cup with their inept on-ice play – or lack thereof. With Lightning efforts that probably belonged in the Hall of Shame, as the Zamboni cleaned and resurfaced the ice after the final game, I hope that they added some detergent
sufficient to remove all traces and stench of these playoffs whose odors will probably linger with Lightning players until they start anew with Spring training in September. What will next year’s team be like? Will it have the same promise of unbeatable offense and stifling defense that characterized this year’s team. Will we again have our hopes crushed by lackluster, indifferent play in the playoffs or will that championship be realized once again like its 2004 predecessor? Where there is life, there is hope and we diehard Lighting fans are no different. If you will play like the Lightning that we have come to know and love, we, your loyal fans will still be the Thunder!

Seniors Thrive at La Bella Legacy - A Senior Day Program Like No Other
By Lisa Stephens Everyone knows Florida
is a mecca for seniors with a desire to enjoy their retirement years comfortably. But what about those folks who reach a time in life when they fall between the cracks of those living independently and active and those needing the full services of a traditional assisted living home? Many senior adults are still healthy enough to enjoy activities and social opportunities yet would benefit from some daytime stimulation to help keep cognitive and physical abilities as best as can be for as long as possible. Fortunately, La Bella Legacy Senior Day Program is now an available and affordable solution for Pasco and surrounding counties. The family behind this golden opportunity for seniors has many years’ experience in the industry. Owners William and Janice Lindmar wanted something more for families to consider when it came to looking for help for their aging loved ones. Combined, they have more than thirty
18 MAY 2019
years’ experience in the senior industry. Coupled with their own personal experience with their own grandparents, they knew what they didn’t want when it came to establishing their business. “Smack in the middle of our careers, we knew we could do it better,” William said. He and Janice originally entered the elder care field as a result of their own experiences with their own grandparents. William, whose grandfather lived in an assisted living facility near the end of his life stated, “I would visit him and every time I left I had this strange feeling in the pit of my stomach.” Suddenly, the reason for that uneasy feeling dawned on him. “When I was there, everything looked fine. But what about when I wasn’t there?” It was then that he decided to pursue a career working with seniors. Over the years, William and Janice worked their way up the senior living career ladder. They realized, the higher level the position, the less contact they had with the people they wished to serve. After ten years of planning, they opened a facility that would
have been exactly what they preferred to have had for their own family when they needed it. La Bella Legacy is an active adult senior day program that is designed to change the landscape of daytime senior care options. You won’t find members just sitting around in this modern 3,000 SF facility. If they are sitting, it’s likely because they are engaged in their daily senior specialized chair fitness and strengthening program. Local Residents Post Their Reviews You’ll want to visit their Facebook page for photos, videos and reviews! Here are a few examples of satisfied members! Leah said “Best place for seniors to meet others and have some fun all the while being taken care of by a great staff.” Carol, the spouse of an active member, commented “The facility is immaculate and so well thought out..The staff is so loving and caring and treats everyone with dignity and respect.”
Who Can Benefit from La Bella Legacy? According to William and Janice, members range in age from 73 to a very active 95. While some members have no cognitive issues, others may have mild-moderate memory loss. La Bella Legacy is an allinclusive recreational and therapeutic program offering various schedules that all include a fully catered lunch! At initial inquiry, Susan, the full-time on-site nurse determines if the potential member is capable of participating in the program and will benefit from all its offerings. Safety is always at the top the list. “If we that the program might be too much for a member, we let the family know,” William said. Keeping seniors engaged and participating in activities and social opportunities is key to enabling them to continue to be active and enjoy their time spent at La Bella. Staying at home all day, in front of a television or alone, can sometimes hasten their inability to maintain good mental and physical health.

Why Consider La Bella Legacy? La Bella offers a luxury non institutional atmosphere that is more like a social club than a typical day center. Fresh color and artwork on the walls, hardwood flooring with an open floor plan divided into various rooms to allow for personal space and entertainment truly sets this program apart. “Every detail was considered when it came to designing our center,” William advised. Each lounge is visible from around the center and easily accessible to everyone. They even have a boutique movie theater complete with leather recliners and a popcorn machine! A large open area in the
middle offers a place to enjoy bowling, corn hole and fitness! When it’s time for a little rest, members can take a breather in the relaxation lounge, thumbing through magazines that date back to the 1920’s or go for a massage in the TITANPOD chair located in the exclusive Sensory Suite. Members listen to all music genres from the Juke Box in the Gaming and Music Pub or try their luck at slots, poker, shuffleboard competitions and so much more. Whether a modest introvert or an outgoing extrovert, there is something for everyone! “When you join La Bella Legacy, you join our family,” William said. And a family affair it is! William and Janice’s two
daughters often volunteer for multigenerational interaction. William’s mom also volunteers. “She’s extremely good at motivating the members and has a background in health and fitness,” Janice explained. Susan, the full-time nurse is there daily and is a longtime family friend who moved her entire life to Florida from Pennsylvania because she believed so strongly in the program. “We’re always out there working with the members, too,” Janice said, “because we don’t believe in job titles.” From Jeopardy Challenges and Regular Mind and Body Training to BINGO and Crafty Creations, the social and physical activity never ends at La Bella Legacy! Janice advised their

Opportunity Knocks for Volunteers! By Lisa Stephens With busy lives, it can be hard to find time to volunteer. However, the benefits of volunteering are enormous to you, your family, and your community. The right match can help you reduce stress, find friends, connect with the community, learn new skills, and even advance your career. Giving to others can also help protect your mental and physical health. Why volunteer? Volunteering offers vital help to people in need, worthwhile causes, and the community, but the benefits can be even greater for you, the volunteer. Volunteering and helping others can reduce stress, combat depression, keep you mentally stimulated, and provide a sense of purpose. While it’s true that the more you volunteer, the more benefits you’ll experience, volunteering doesn’t have to involve a long-term commitment or take a huge amount of time out of your busy day. Giving in even simple ways can help those in need and improve your health and happiness. Check out these organizations that could benefit from new volunteers: Goodwill Adult Day Training Program: This program provides a variety of worklike activities to developmentally disabled adults to enable them to achieve the highest possible degree of independence to go about their daily lives. SAT AND ACT IMROVEMENT: SPRING AND SUMMER PREP
Dr. Wayne Adams
“Dr. A, I got a 1200 on the SAT!” my student almost shouted with excitement coming through the door to start the ACT part of our prep classes. “That’s great. Do you realize it is worth about $18,000 in scholarship money at any Florida Public University?” I replied. “Wow! That’s even greater.” “Yes, and now with the ACT let’s see if we can get you another $6,000 with a 100% Bright Futures scholarship,” I said and we began. By the way, it looks like this student has an excellent chance to hit an ACT composite of at least 28.5 (yes, the ACT
Exam rounds up on their composites if they are .5 or higher). The Academic Scholar qualification threshold is a composite of 29 on the ACT. As I often discuss with students, where could they find a job where they could earn $18,000 to $24,000 … tax - free ? I call this, “Dialing for Dollars.” And each of my students and their parents receive a copy of my special report about Negotiating with Colleges, that has saved many between $1,000 and $10,000 a year in college costs. At this time of year, many parents are asking what they should do about SAT and the ACT Exams.
The last SAT Exam in this school year is on Saturday, June 1st, and the last ACT Exam is on Saturday, June 8th. During the summer, there is an ACT Exam on Saturday, July 13th, and an ACT Exam on Saturday, August 24th. For seniors, the Bright Futures program will consider scores from the June 1st and the June 8th exams to qualify for these scholarships for students starting as college freshmen next fall. For juniors soon to become seniors, these exams can give an idea of how they can score, whether that will be in the range for applying to their selected schools next fall,
and whether it will qualify them for a Bright Futures scholarship if they stay in Florida. For sophomores soon to become juniors, this is excellent preparation for the PSAT exam next October which is the only national qualifying exam for National Merit Scholarships. Also, this can help prepare for later exams in their junior and possibly senior year. Another very popular option for rising seniors and juniors is to prepare for these exams over the summer. Students can focus more on preparing because they normally do not have all the time pressures that occur during a school year. Classes can be scheduled
around vacations and other requirements, and are easier to change at the last minute if needed. If you would like to talk further with me about the New SAT Prep Class, and/or my ACT Prep Class, please contact me at 727-253-0639 or wwa0811@mykolab.com. Dr. Wayne Adams is one of the leading SAT and ACT tutors in the country. His students normally improve 200 – 350 points on the New SAT Writing, Reading, and Math combination scores, and 4 – 7 points on the ACT composite. They have been admitted to eight of the top ten universities in the country, seventeen of the top twenty-five, and many schools in Florida. These schools include Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Stanford, U Chicago, Duke, U Penn, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, Notre
Dame, Emory, UC Berkley, UCLA, USC, UNC (Chapel Hill), NYU, Northeastern (Boston), Boston College, Georgia Tech, Air Force and Merchant Marine Service Academies, Penn State, LSU, Auburn, UF, U Miami, FSU, USF, UCF, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, FIU, New College of Florida, Stetson, and Julliard – Manhattan - New England - and Berkley Conservatories of Music. Many have received academic, athletic, or music scholarships. He is a former Dean of a Graduate School of Business and Full Professor, and began college teaching at the University of Maryland in 1968. He has degrees and advanced studies at Harvard, Yale, Vanderbilt, Columbia International, and Luther Rice.

Meadow Millet photo by Bailey Illig
Gregg Schindler Female Athlete of the Month for May
By Bailey Illig Meadow Millet (’21) has been selected as the Gregg Schindler Female Athlete of the Month award for May because she consistently exceeds expectations as a member of the Mitchell High School Varsity Track and Field team. Her first two years of running for the team, Millet earned a spot on the Top Ten List, placing first in school history
34 MAY 2019
in the two-mile with a time of 11:12.31, second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.55, and third in the one mile with a time of 5:09.14. “I started running after I quit gymnastics due to repetitive injuries. Both my mom and dad ran in college, so I gave running a try in seventh grade. Since then, my love for the sport has grown immensely,” Millet said. Track requires hard work, dedication, and a love for what they do. Practices for track and field are only through the months of January to April, therefore, athletes that wish to get ahead of the game continue to work and run in the off season. “I prepare at home by consistently stretching to avoid injury, eating healthy, and getting good sleep for the highest energy levels,” Millet said. Track meets last anywhere from five to 12 hours, and Millet runs four events: 800-meter run, one mile, two mile, and the four by 400-meter dash. Instead of having several hours between events, Millet has approximately 30 minutes to an hour between each of her races. “My teammates have helped me during the meets when races can
be mentally tough. I always hear them yelling on the side, which is one of the greatest feelings, knowing they are all right there with me,” Millet said. Coach Alan Parmenter helped Millet become the best runner she could be in the past two years of coaching her. He recognizes her natural talent and believes in her ability. “She could get a scholarship right now to a lot of D1 (Division 1) schools, maybe not University of Florida right now, but she is only in tenth grade. Jacksonville University in Alabama is a D1 school and would take her in a heartbeat and so would PHSC (Pasco Hernando State College). I know this because I get letters from these people,” Parmenter said. Last year, when Millet was a freshman, she qualified to the state championship track meet in Jacksonville for the two mile. This season, Millet qualified for all three of her individual events—800-meter, one mile, and two mile— and ran her way to states at University of North Florida in Jacksonville on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4.

Jackson Leiby photo by Peggy Hinmon (also pictured in the photo – Sainandan Challagundla)
Gregg Schindler Male Athlete of the Month for May
By Emma Diehl When sophomore Jackson Leiby began playing tennis at age ten, he started because he found other sports boring. He never thought that he would be one of the top tennis players in the district. Leiby credits much of his success in the sport to his
school tennis coach, Ms. Peggy Hinmon. “Coach Hinmon has me do drills and exercises that help me perform better while playing in a game. She also motivates me to do better and gives me advice on what to do during the games,” Leiby said. Leiby was nominated for this honor not only because of his skill level, but also because of his willingness to play up several levels because of the fact that two of his teammates were injured. “I believe that I earned this because of how well I performed during the season, and stepping up after having to play up a ranking during a few matches and at districts,” said Leiby. Even with playing up several levels during the competition, Jackson said that he felt more than prepared to win. “It was only difficult during the final match because we did not know anything about the opponent. He was injured during the regular season, and played just enough matches to
For Advertising Info 727-943-0551 I info@nnlflorida.com or visit tbnewsandlifestyles.com
play against me at districts,” Leiby said. With the vast majority of sports, there are several aspects which an athlete must take into consideration while training. Leiby has taken these into account, and has a few areas that he likes to focus on the most. “I work on mostly agility and reflexes when training. During training, we [team members] play each other to find out where we rank, and how each of us can get better,” said Leiby. Jackson Leiby plans to continue playing tennis for the J.W. Mitchell High School Tennis team until he graduates. Leiby also plans to play tennis throughout his college years, though he has not promised himself to any colleges up to this point. Congratulations to sophomore Jackson Leiby on becoming the Gregg Schindler State Farm Agency’s male athlete of the month.

“A Passion for Real Estate – Denise Denver P.A. – RE/MAX - Continued from page 1”
Under-pricing leaves money you should have gotten at closing table in the buyer’s pocket. Over-pricing will cause your home to languish on the market without prospective buyers. Should you have title insurance? Why? Who should pay for it, the buyer or seller? How much will it cost to sell your home? Who pays what closing cost … and on and on? These are hard questions but there is someone with all the answers, RE/MAX Realtor Denise Denver. You can see that real estate is not as simple as it appears and that is why there are experienced, trained professionals like Denise Denver, one of RE/MAX Marketing Specialists most consistent top producers. She works closely with her customers, taking the worry out of the real estate transactions and ensuring their peace of mind throughout the entire buying or selling process. Denise is proud of her association with RE/MAX whose extraordinary growth from a single office in Denver, CO., in 1973 to over 120,000 agents in over 100 countries and territories is a direct reflection on the quality of services that marketing specialists like Realtor Denise Denver provides to all her satisfied customers. Community-minded, and a local resident, Denise is originally a transplant from Ireland who grew up in Westchester County, New York before moving to Florida in 1999. She is especially proud of her daughter Brittany and son Gregory who are both graduates of local Florida universities. Working with both buyers and sellers, Denise is equally proud to help her customers enjoy one of the most desirable, vibrant, dynamically growing areas on the entire west Coast of Florida, the Tampa Bay area. She welcomes both buyers, sellers, seasonal “snow birds,” and retirees, tired of dealing with cold northern weather. With a climate that is the envy of most of the United States, Tampa Bay’s growth-oriented, vibrant economy and friendly people make Denise happy to represent the Bay area to local, national and international clients. It’s an area that also boasts Hillsborough Community College, the University of Tampa, and the
36 MAY 2019
lush, sprawling campuses of the University of South Florida, as well as professional sports teams like the Tampa Bay Lightning (hockey), Tampa Bay Rays (baseball), Rowdies (soccer), and the Buccaneers (football). Conveniently located, cultural icons like the Straz Theater complex and Ruth Eckerd Hall, are other “must sees” in the Tampa Bay area, featuring a variety of live plays, and Broadway musicals throughout the year. The areas proximity to worldfamous amusement attractions like Busch Gardens, Walt Disney World and Universal Studios, makes the Tampa Bay area the ideal location to put down new roots. Residents of the area also have access to other local attractions like the Dali and Florida Holocaust Museums, as well as outstanding local hospitals, excellent schools, churches, an amazing variety of shopping options, world-class airports in both Tampa and St. Petersburg, championship golf courses and another enviable option, some of the world’s best award-winning sandy beaches! With its great cultural and business diversity, it’s easy for Denise to represent an area like this. Residents of New Port Richey are especially fortunate with the upcoming opening of one of the phases of The Villages at Mitchell Ranch, a massive, mixed use project on 330 acres that will feature up to 800 new homes, apartments and townhouses, a new mall and nearly a million square feet of commercial space, according to an article in the Tampa Bay Times, April 9, 2018, by C.T. Bowen. Purchasing or selling a home can be a difficult, confusing experience. RE/MAX Marketing Specialists is jointly owned with RE/MAX Realtec who was the #2 selling
office in the state of Florida and received the Achievement Award in 2018. The owners Alan and Karen Hardy, and broker John Rurkowski, make it easy to work for a branded name such as RE/MAX. Their expertise is graciously provided to their Agents, making the buying or selling experience as pleasant and worry-free as possible. They are pleased to announce their recent relocation to their new home at 8915 Mitchell Road in New Port Richey. According to investopedia.com “Becoming successful and making a sustainable income as a real estate broker or sales agent is hard work - and in most cases, requires substantial commitment of time, effort and even money.” For Denise, it is more than just a job; it is her passion. In a previous Tampa Bay News and Life Styles article, she noted that “Real Estate is all about trust and relationship building. I have nearly 15 years of experience helping people in this area and I receive a lot of referrals from clients who refer me to friends and family!” A dedicated Realtor, Denise recently received RE/MAX’s prestigious 100% Club award. Not all real estate agents are designated as “Realtor.” Denise and her fellow Realtors at RE/MAX have willingly agreed to be held to a higher standard, adhering to the Code of Ethics that ensures that all dealings will be done ethically, honestly and professionally. Failure to comply with the governing rules can have severe consequences including fines and sanctions. This is Denise’s commitment to all her customers: a fair, open and honest relationship. A sign on the lawn and an MLS listing are no longer enough for today’s techsavvy buyers and sellers. With almost 15
For Advertising Info 727-943-0551 I info@nnlflorida.com or visit tbnewsandlifestyles.com
years of experience, Denise employs the latest marketing techniques to facilitate both buyer/seller needs. Virtual tours allow buyers and sellers to see properties before an actual field visit. Sellers use the video tour to highlight those special things that make their homes unique. Buyers, in the comfort of the office or at home, can view all properties that fit their criteria and select their potential “dream home” long before Denise opens the lockbox. Listing the home on multiple websites increases visibility and accessibility of properties being sold. Even “snail mail,” with professional pictures on post cards, is used to stimulate interest in properties for sale. “Declutter,” “depersonalize” and “stage” are tools to success, according to Denise. The giant taxidermy deer head on the living room
wall, prominently displayed above the television may be your all-time favorite, but to a prospective buyer, it would be difficult imagining their furniture in a room with that gargoyle staring at them.
