Coastal Orthopedics Goes Above and Beyond for Patients By Deborah Bostock-Kelley

In 1989, Dr. Peter Candelora founded Coastal Orthopedics in New Port Richey. He brings notable medical credentials to his patients at Coastal Orthopedics. Board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Candelora began his undergraduate medical career with a concurrent Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Biology at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. After graduation, he attended Tulane University School of Medicine in Louisiana, where he remained for his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery. In partnership with Tulane, Dr. Candelora received his pediatric training at the Shriner’s Hospital, where he fell in love with Tampa Bay and after decided to return to open his practice

in centrally-located New Port Richey. Dr. Candelora’s specialization is twofold: orthopedic surgery – shoulder, hip, and knee reconstruction, and sports medicine. On any given day, he regularly consults with patients on procedures for hip replacement, hip/femur fractures and dislocations, joint arthroscopy, knee arthroscopy, knee replacement, lower arm/elbow/wrist fractures, lower leg/ankle fractures and dislocations, shoulder arthroscopy, carpal tunnel decompression, and shoulder surgery. He works with patients with arthritis to help find ways to manage the progression of the painful disease. As a last resort, he can provide a partial or full joint replacement to eliminate arthritis.

The recipes were not Americanized they were traditional Italian meals and the portion sizes were unbelievable! I will definitely be going back and I will recommend it to all of my friends.” From the cozy decor and ambiance to the delicious smell of homemade pasta sauce (which they offer on sale to the public), Taso Italiano is

Boos, Breasts & Bolts October is all about Halloween, fall leaves, candy, hockey, and breast cancer awareness. This month we raise awareness by taking a stand against breast cancer by walking, donating, and simply repping pink. So every day of this month, we should show our stand against cancer by remembering a few important points: About 1 in every 8 women will develop breast cancer. That is a whole 12.4% of all women. Breast cancer is the third most diagnosed cancer among women. Breast cancer can be significantly reduced if spotted early on, usually in your early to mid-twenties. Awareness can save a life. Check your own boobies for lumps and irregularities. Not sure how or where to start? Visit www. nationalbreastcancer.org/breast-self-exam The color pink was officially adopted by the American Cancer Society as a color for Breast Cancer Awareness. The National Football League, or the NFL has also become a sponsor of the American Cancer Society by wearing pink socks, bands, and some teams have even donned pink shoes. Wear pink, for your grandmother, mother, daughter, future daughter, niece, friend, yourself. Remember this cancer can also affect men, so wear pink for everyone. Please check out the Making Strides of Tampa Race/Walking Event on Saturday, October 19th at the Raymond James Stadium. The event will be Presented by the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa. Every year, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events unite communities with a shared determination to save lives from breast cancer - all while raising money to help the American Cancer Society fight breast cancer through

research and early detection. Every event is an inspiring opportunity to honor breast cancer survivors and to ensure that no one with this disease ever has to walk alone. Join or donate to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer today and help save more lives. For more information about this and other Breast Cancer Awareness events please visit www.eventbrite.com. With plenty of breast cancer awareness events, amazing fall festivals, Halloween parties, hockey games, and pre-holiday celebrations across the city, you’ll have plenty of fun choices for you and your loved ones this October. For us Lightning fans, it’s been a painful offseason as we’ve had plenty of time to relive the disastrous and heartbreaking first-round sweep in last year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs. But, hopefully, this year will be our year! The bolts will take on the Florida Panthers on Thursday, October 3 in Tampa to open up the regular season, and I am ready to support our team… are you? Obsessed with Halloween? Ditto. Have you purchased your Howl-O-Scream tickets yet? Time is ticking. Howl-O-Scream 2019 celebrates “20 years of fear” as it unearths longburied icons of the past and new nightmares with sinister surprises at every turn. Brave souls can venture though horrifying houses, terrifying scare zones, and thrilling rollercoaster rides in the dark for 22 select nights. Run for your life from September 20th until November 2 as gruesome ghouls emerge from their tombs to twist your daydreams into nightmares. If you’re looking for something you can enjoy with your little ones, consider Tampa Bay’s No. 1 Family Fright Fest events; “Creatures of the Night,” recording weekly on Friday and Saturday until 10/26 at the Lowry Park Zoo. Enjoy and be safe!

Patients Benefit From Married Doctors’ Calling to Create Practice By Deborah Bostock-Kelley Serving Trinity and its surrounding areas for twelve years, the husband and wife team of experienced boardcertified family physicians, Dr. Stephanie Eldridge and Dr. Amir Shirmohammad (Dr. Shirmo) opened Trinity Family Physicians to provide personalized care for their patients – from age 8 to 108. As private practice owners and not another corporate-owned medical entity, Trinity Family Physicians treats their new and established patients like family. In fact, it’s in their motto “Let Our Family Care for Yours.” That difference is huge, especially for anyone who has struggled to have five minutes of a doctor’s time before he darts off to the next patient. These caring doctors have no problem spending quality time to listen to patients. “Our biggest advantage is our bedside manner and how we

6 OCTOBER 2019

truly care about our patients. We are notorious for taking time with our patients. That’s one of the things that people love about us,” explained Dr. Shirmo. “When they come here, they know that they are going to get excellent care. If we can’t handle your situation, we’ll find the right person that can for you. Patients at our practice feel like they are heard and are not just a number.” Not only are patients not a number at Trinity Family Physicians, but they will soon be expanding their service hours to accommodate often busy schedules. Patients will be able to see the doctors as early as 8:00 am and as late as 5:15 pm. Dr. Shirmo recommends calling early for the extended hour appointments, as those time slots tend to fill the fastest. For those unable to make the drive to the practice, Drs. Eldridge and Shirmo conveniently provide superior care to established patients via their new state-of-

the-art tele-visit service. Current patients can download an app and connect face-to-face with the doctors via a computer or smart device. If insurance doesn’t cover tele-visits, the practice is offering a discounted rate of $39 for the next 60 days. “We try to understand the obstacles patients face and we try to address those,” said Dr.

Shirmo. “As the owners of the practice, if things make sense and changes need to be made for the betterment of the community and our patients, we are motivated and excited to help. It doesn’t take an act of congress to get it done.” The doctors are proud that they handpick all of their staff – from the front desk receptionist

For Advertising Info 727-943-0551 I info@nnlflorida.com or visit tbnewsandlifestyles.com

that greets their patients coming and leaving, to the nurse that takes them to the examination room, to the providers overseeing their wellness and care. “If we wouldn’t trust them with our own family – our kids, we certainly wouldn’t trust them with your patients’ family, kids, and grandparents.” Sometimes, even if children have had their annual physical covered by insurance earlier in the year, sports participation in the new school year requires an additional sports physical for completion of a sports participation form. Without insurance covering a second physical, the cost can often be more than a parent wants to pay. To help reduce the expense, parents can schedule their child’s sports physical with the practice for the reduced price of $25, now through September 31st. Please call the office for details. When not busy taking care of patients in their office, the doctors also support their community through participation with local charities.

“One thing that patients want is to make sure that doctor caring for them has their best interests in mind. Whether it’s Dr. Eldridge, myself or our staff, we always genuinely have the patients’ best interest in mind. We want to do what’s right for them. That’s first and foremost. We’re committed to our patients and our community. When patients make the switch from their doctor to us, they come to understand that and wish they had changed a long time ago,” Dr. Shirmo paused. “We don’t just clock in and clock out. This isn’t a job for us. This is a calling.” Trinity Family Physicians is located at the corner of Trinity Blvd. and Duck Slough Blvd. at 1817 Cypress Brook Dr., Suite 101 in Trinity. Hours are Mon. – Fri., 8:30 a.m.– 5:00 p.m. Starting October 1, hours will be Mon-Thurs 8:00-6:00 p.m., Friday 8:00-5:00 p.m. For more information, call (727) 8348377 or visit their Facebook page or website at www. trinityfamilyphysicians.com.

Patient Focused Care by Physician Who Has Earned Humana’s Highest Ranking

Dr. Prakash Machhar, MD and Healthcare Associates of Pasco County ranked #1 Physicians’ Practice in Quality Care by Humana in the state of Florida MA

By: Kelly Stuart Williams,

When was the last time you visited your doctor’s office and actually met with your MD: not their triage nurse or physician’s assistant? If Humana is your insurance provider and you live in Pasco County, you have likely seen Healthcare Associates of Pasco County in New Port Richey where Dr. Prakash Machhar, MD has practiced medicine for over 20 years. His is the only practice in Pasco County to receive MULTIPLE 5 STAR RATINGS BY HUMANA IN THE LAST 4 YEARS! From over 75 reviews on www.Healthgrades.com, a patient recently wrote, “Dr. Machhar always takes the time to explain procedures and answer any questions you might have in full. The office staff is very professional and helpful. Dr.

10 OCTOBER 2019

Machhar is very caring and I’m glad to have found a doctor who is willing to take time with his patients.” In their own words, patients’ testimonials are consistent with third party reviewer, www.health. usnews.com, a research firm that assessed Dr. Machhar with the highest ranking: EXCELLENT. According to US News, “When choosing a provider, it can be helpful to review other patients’ experiences. [We] publish patient experience ratings from Fountain Analytics, which aggregates patient reviews from over a hundred sites to compile information about 10 different patient experience metrics.” Dr. Machhar’s ratings are based on 74 patient reviews in the past 12 months. His EXCELLENT rating was measured according to the following criteria: Ability to

Answer Questions, Clarity of Instructions, Providers’ FollowUp, Amount of Time with Patient, and Provider’s Attitude. He received a “Very Positive” rating for Thoroughness of Examination. Aligned with the US News assessment, a patient wrote, “Dr Machhar.is very caring, takes time to listen to you, he keeps you well informed about your meds, labs, etc., and has very caring and knowledgeable staff. He will answer any of your questions at any time. I am so grateful he is my doctor.” At Healthcare Associates of Pasco County, Dr. Prakash Machhar, MD and his team are not only recipients of Humana’s 5 Star Award of Excellence, but they are involved members of the Greater Pasco community where they specialize in Internal Medicine, Primary Care, and Geriatric Care.

Dr. Machhar, a Board Certified Internist, is also affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Medical Center of Trinity and Morton Plant North Bay Hospital. “It really gives one peace-of-mind to know that Dr. Machhar will oversee hospital care if necessary.” Dr. Machhar explained that his practice focuses on preventing the need for hospital care whenever possible, so he provides critical care in his New Port Richey office, “What is most important to my patients is that they are able to see me on an emergency basis…I see them right away when necessary.” A trained team of professionals staff the office and make every effort to schedule patients when they need to be seen by the doctor immediately. A focus on going above and beyond with his patients is part of the reason that Humana has recognized Dr. Machhar and Healthcare Associates of Pasco County as the #1 Ranked Physicians’ Practice in Quality Care by Humana in the state of

Florida. In an article published by Cleveland Clinic, one of the nation’s top health providers explained the importance of having a relationship with their physician, “A family physician can be the right answer for most healthcare situations. Medical emergencies are an exception. An emergency is a valid reason to visit the emergency room — but far too many Americans use the ER or urgent care as their primary source of care. It’s one reason among many we spend more as a country on healthcare than anyone else, yet still rank far from the top in health outcomes.” Dr. Machhar focuses on creating relationships and producing good outcomes with his patients whose needs range from preventative care to urgent care. If you are covered by a qualified Humana health insurance plan, you have access to state of the art care at Healthcare Associates of Pasco County where Dr. Machhar has been an exclusive Humana Health Care Provider for over 20 years.

By partnering with one specific insurance provider, Dr. Machhar is able to spend less time on paper work and more time with his patients. As well, Dr. Machhar is very familiar with other Humana physicians to whom he can refer and follow-up with his patients. Patients Jim and Diane Rizzo wrote, “My husband and I have been going to Dr. Machhar for approximately seven (7) years, and we couldn’t be happier. He takes the time to get to know you and doesn’t do any service he thinks is unnecessary and will refer to other medical professionals when needed.” Together with his wife Paresha and team of caring staff at Healthcare Associates of Pasco County, Dr. Macchar continues to focus on providing quality care with established patients, and he continues to accept new patients. Both new and existing patients report receiving dependable, reliable care that is hard to find. Dr. Machhar offers same-day appointments, and patients like knowing that the doctor on call is the one who knows them

“Dr. Candelora” - Continued from page 1. Though some arthritic conditions are genetic or caused by advanced age, others can be brought on by a sedentary lifestyle and poor life choices. Dr. Candelora recommends that all patients keep active. Regular exercise takes the stress of extra weight off the joints and helps strengthen the muscles around the joints, better protecting them from wear and tear. Maintaining an appropriate weight is recommended as being overweight can cause extra force on the patient’s knees and hips. Diet and exercise can keep the body in a healthy range. He also recommends avoiding or removing unhealthy habits, like smoking. Dr. Candelora explained that poor health could not only contribute to more arthritis in the body but further health issues like diabetes and heart disease,

14 OCTOBER 2019

as well as impact the body’s ability to heal after surgery. For sports medicine, he uses his training to help patients looking to prevent or treat injuries related to sports and exercise. Whether his client enjoys sports as a weekend hobby, plays amateur or professionally, he works with them to develop a safe fitness strategy. “My goal is to get people functional,” he said. “We tailor their treatment to accommodate their lifestyle.” Fractures of shoulders, hips, and knees tend to run seasonally as the “snowbirds” return to Florida. Dr. Candelora is so respected in the field that patients fly to Florida to have him as their medical orthopedic consultant and surgeon. “We are a progressive practice that stays on top of technology,” said Dr. Candelora. Such surgical innovation includes advanced techniques that use computers, robotic-

assisted surgeries for joint replacement, and regenerative medicine – stem cell therapy to encourage the body’s natural healing ability to treat injuries. He credits his staff for being another reason patients refer family and friends to Coast Orthopedics. “My office staff is interactive and personal, making sure our patients are taken care of. They are on top of everything.” Dr. Candelora recounted a story about his favorite Philadelphia Eagles football player, who selected his practice for a total knee replacement. The 68-yearold retired football player was out catching a football after his recovery. Dr. Candelora is exceptionally proud of Coastal Orthopedics involvement in the local community as well as their contribution to Gridiron Greats, a nonprofit that formed a humanitarian initiative to provide a wide variety of medical treatments

to retired NFL players with little or no means to pay for medical evaluations, medical procedures or rehabilitation. Coastal Orthopedics is one of but a handful of practices through the United States who provides free medical assistance to retired NFL players in dire need through the nonprofit. When asked what gave him the most satisfaction in operating Coastal Orthopedics, Dr. Candelora did not hesitate in his response. “Seeing a patient up and moving around and doing well, that’s what I love about being an orthopedic doctor.” Coastal Orthopedics is located at 5145 Deer Park Drive in New Port Richey. Office hours are Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday. To learn more, call (727) 314-2946 or visit https://www.bone-dr.com.

“Taso Italiano” Continued from page 1. With a beautiful and tastefully decorated large dining room to the right, and a fantastic separate lounge area with high tabletops and a full liquor bar to the left, Taso Italiano is the perfect place for a romantic date night, big family outing, or to unwind with your friends and catch the latest sports game while enjoying a cold beer (or alcoholic drink of choice) at the bar area.

Congratulations Are In Order!

Taso Italiano will celebrate its 7th anniversary in February 2020. And speaking of celebrations, I would personally like to congratulate restaurant owner Taso Stassi and his beautiful wife Sabrina, for tying the knot on March 24th, 2019, after fourteen years together. To many more years of love, happiness, success, and delicious food! Cheers to you both!

Superb Customer Service

Regulars are known by name, and new customers are treated like family at Taso Italiano. You’ll often see Taso and Sabrina stopping by each table to make sure everyone is having a good time and everything’s tasting great. “Exceptional service ‘may’ compensate for ‘Okay’ food.

22 OCTOBER 2019

However, exceptional food will ‘NEVER’ compensate ‘Okay’ service,” says Taso, who believes you’re only as good as the help you have at your side. That same quote is printed in big bold letters and displayed in the kitchen, as a reminder to the entire staff on the importance of outstanding customer service. “We enjoyed excellent service and wonderful food Friday night,” says Connie G. “Taso stopped by our table to make sure we were having a good experience. We did! We’ll definitely be back.” “We just left the restaurant and can’t stop talking about the great food and awesome service,” says Antonio R. “Highly recommend going and treating yourself to a terrific dining experience. We really appreciate Taso coming by to greet us and spend time with our family. All the staff was terrific… Thank you Taso and all your staff. See you soon.” “Phenomenal service and amazing food!” says Lisa K. “The owners are very involved in making everyone feel welcome. It is like going home to my grandmother’s. We’re coming back… often.”

Bring The Whole Family To Enjoy All The Best! Proudly featuring recipes that

have been handed down from generation to generation in the Stassi family, Taso’s inspiration comes from his experience in helping his father Euripides

Stassi, who helped to open L’Epicure, a fine dining restaurant on Long Island that served the wealthiest patrons in New York. Taking the advice he learned from L’Epicure’s chefs early on, Taso says he expects his staff to “learn it and learn it the right way.” “Our genuine passion is to provide people with what they’re not going to get anywhere else,” says Taso. “My father used to say, ‘All The Best’ which is what we strive for here at Taso Italiano.” Taso Italiano specializes in family-style dining. So bring your partner, kids, second cousins, and grandparents! Just make sure to call ahead and reserve a table to ensure you and your loved ones can be comfortably seated. The Family Style Menu is perfect for parties of 4 or more, and all options include freshly baked bread and house pesto. Appetizers include options like bruschetta, Taso’s signature fried calamari and stuffed mushrooms

amongst many others. Salad choices include Roman, Fresh Garden, Spinach or Tomato Caprice. Pasta Platters include options such as Baked Ziti Sicilian, Tortellini Alfredo (or Pesto Cream), Penne a la Tito’s, and Baked or Stuffed Shells. Entree Platters favorites include the Chicken or Veal Parmesan, Clams or Mussels—Marinara, Fra Diavolo or Bianco, and Shrimp Parmigiana, Piccata or Francese, among many others to choose from. Leave room for dessert, because you’ll want to try their cannoli or homemade tiramisu. “Amazing food!” says Jeff R. who recently visited with his wife and kids. “We started with the Stuffed Mushrooms, followed by super fresh homemade Chicken and Dumpling soup. Both were great. I had the Filet Mignon with Marsala sauce. Delicious! My wife had the Chicken Osso Bucco and loved it. My son had the Mushroom Ravioli and my

daughter the Filet Mignon with Shrimp Scampi, and we shared the Mushroom Risotto. I tried it all and everything was amazing! Service was super and we will be back. New regular family for Italiano night! Taso and Sabrina were super people to chat with, great owners!” Catering and Private

I recently

had a ‘meeting of the minds’ with fellow restaurant owner Paul Pizzi, of Mama Romano’s Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria, and I was able to get some refreshing ideas.” Taso Italiano will soon be offering “Catered Combos,” with many new options to choose from and combine.

Tech Talk with Bob: SSD’s...The Gift of Speed! By Bob Dalles

When computers first came out, we were all amazed by the cool things they could do. Over the years, computers could do more and more. Today we are not amazed as much as what tasks computers can do but how quickly they can do them. Typically, what has been done in the past is to speed the computer up by replacing its central processing unit (CPU) with a faster one and/or adding more random access memory (RAM). Those methods are still used today. But now we have another option to speed up our computers… the solid-state drive (SSD).

26 OCTOBER 2019

Your programs and data are stored on the computer’s HDD which is comprised of mechanical parts and electronics. A SSD is comprised of only electronics so it is not subject to the physical constraints of having mechanical parts. The HDD has spinning platters that hold your data and a read/write head that transfers data back and forth to the platters (similar to a record player’s platter and tone arm). The HDD’s moving mechanical parts make the HDD’s response time slower than a SSD. Which in turn makes your waiting time for a program to boot up or a file to load considerably longer. A computer with a SSD will serve

up those files and programs much faster. I always get asked, “how fast?” I hate to put myself on the spot because everyone will experience different results. I will tell you this. My computer boots up four times faster with a SSD than it did with a HDD. Everyone that I know who upgraded from a HDD to a SSD were amazed with the performance increase and were

happy they decided to upgrade. In addition to being fast, SSDs are lighter than HDDs because SSDs do not have the HDD’s mechanical parts. Instead, SSDs use microchips similar to the well-known flash drive. No moving parts also means that SSDs do not generate any noise or vibrations that the HDD’s spinning platters are known to produce. SSDs also create less heat where HDDs can get very hot. Another benefit is SSDs are durable. The HDD is one of, if not, the most fragile component in your computer. HDDs are susceptible to damage caused by the computer being dropped or banged around when it is moved. SSDs can tolerate a

greater impact; a real benefit to laptop users. SSDs also consume less energy. Another major benefit for laptop users because battery life will increase. How much? My battery life doubled on my laptop. Again, your results may vary. If you are looking to increase your loading speeds or want more battery time between charges, this is one of those rare times when you can have the best of both worlds. Be advised that SSDs cost more than HDDs but most people have found them to be a worth-while investment in their computing experience. Be Safer Out There! Marina Saviceva-Noti and Jonathan Fairbank freshman, Marina SavicevaNoti. Despite this year being her first on the golf team, Marina Saviceva-Noti (‘23) wasted no time helping her team succeed. In their first match of the season, she received a low score of 48, in addition to a team victory against Zephyrhills and Fivay. Saviceva-Noti first began playing golf when she was in elementary school. She got her start in the sport with inspiration from her dad. “My dad was pretty good at golf, so I wanted to do it with him. Now it’s sort of become a family thing,” said Saviceva-Noti. To continue improving her wide variety of skills, SavicevaNoti practices with her teammates every Monday and Wednesday at Heritage Springs Country Club. “At practices, we really have fun together. We work on putting and chipping, and we work on

the driving range. We have two groups and we usually switch off. Sometimes we go on the course and play some holes,” said Saviceva-Noti. Between their disciplined team training, Saviceva-Noti has a lively relationship with her teammates, including the captain, Haley Spinger (‘20). “When Marina’s golfing, she’s really focused, but between that time, she’s really crazy. We all get along, even though she likes to mess with people a lot. But she’s definitely an asset to our team because she drops our score a lot,” Spinger said. However, practices are not always all fun and free of challenges. As with any sport, SavicevaNoti often feels the effects of her workouts the day after. “If you do 18 holes, the next day you’re going to be pretty sore. Usually, you just do a really

light practice and you don’t really work yourself over again. So if you play 18 holes, don’t go another 18 holes,” said Saviceva-Noti. In addition to matches on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the Mitchell varsity golf team, Saviceva-Noti manages her time in order to do extra tournaments outside of school on Sundays. All of her dedication to golf helps her grow not only as an athlete but as an individual. “Golf definitely teaches you patience, so I think I’ve become a lot more patient. I’m also more fit and acclimated to heat,” said Saviceva-Noti. Within the next four years of her high school golf career, SavicevaNoti hopes to earn a college scholarship for golf, which would assist her in attending a respectable college while playing the sport she loves.

During the game against East Lake High School on Sept. 27, Jonathan Fairbank (below) returns to the sidelines after Mitchell took the lead early in the first quarter. Mitchell went on to win 55-42.

Male story By Laynie Mazur

The male Gregg Schindler State Farm Agency Student-Athlete of the Month, Jonathan Fairbank, kicked off his junior year at J.W.

Mitchell High School playing what he does best: football. Taking part on the varsity team, Fairbank praises his teammates for supporting his success through thick and thin. “My team helps push me to become a better football player: we challenge each other to be greater. The biggest hardships I have faced are watching my teammates get hurt on the field,” Fairbank said. Challenges from peers help athletes achieve their goals. In addition to the competition on the field, friendships develop from the teammates’ support and devotion to one another. Playing with many of the same teammates for all of high school, Fairbank has formed these bonds. “Football has allowed me to make friends that I will probably have for life,” Fairbank said. One influence of Fairbank’s success, his twin brother Nicholas Fairbank, pushes him to work

harder and perform better, on and off the field. “We always challenge each other on a daily basis,” Fairbank said. Playing football for upwards of eight years, Fairbank plays both offense and defense for the Mitchell Mustangs. This year, his main positions include H-back, slot receiver, and middle and inside linebacker. “My favorite position is inside linebacker because you get to hit people,” Fairbank said with a smile. Fairbank tests his abilities by accompanying intense football practices and games with advanced academic courses. With these activities in mind, leisure time is little for the varsity player. “I go to lift weights in the morning every day at seven, and then I have football practice after school. When you get home from a three-hour football practice and you have three hours of

homework which are due the next day, it’s very hard to balance school and football,” Fairbank said. Luckily, his hard work pays off. He starts and ends almost every game on the field. Looking back, Fairbank recalls his favorite game-day minute. “The best part of football is the moment right before the game starts and your adrenaline is pumping,” he said. Fairbank plans to go to the University of Wisconsin or Northwestern University to play football after completing high school. Through his drive and persistence, Fairbank shows no signs of slowing down. “It feels great to be the athlete of the month, and I couldn’t have done it without my brothers on the field,” Fairbank said.

Congratulations to these two athletes!
