If you’ve lived in Westchase for a while, you’ve probably heard it referred to as “the bubble,” and sometimes it may feel like you need a good reason to leave our idyllic neighborhood. Pho Quyen Vietnamese Cuisine is an excellent reason to venture a bit outside our area. Owners, Lisa and Vuong Nguyen, have been delighting the taste buds of diners for more than 20 years. “My husband learned how to cook from his uncle and then started developing his own style and creating new recipes,” said Lisa. “He is happiest when people tell him they enjoy one of the dishes he’s cooked.” Even though Pho Quyen has been a Tampa Bay favorite for many years, Vuong is constantly adding See “Pho Quyen” on page 12.

Her newest studio in Westchase has only been open 4 months but many health conscious women around town already knew her. Samantha started her personal trainer career in the Westchase area and quickly became one of the top personal trainers of all Lifestyle Gyms before branching out on her own. “One of the first

ladies to join in Westchase reminded me that I had come to her house 22 years ago to train her,” Samantha says. “I would bring my bench with bars and dumbbells and set up in her living room. She said she was so excited when she saw my sign go up at my new studio.” Samantha Taylor Fitness for Women offers proven fitness and nutrition programs that work. Part of her success comes from her understanding of the issues we all face when it comes to food and nutrition. “I was a food addict,” says Samantha. “Like most

From The Editor Carla Selby

Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Tampa Bay News and Lifestyles Holidays are many things to many people. For some, the primary function of a holiday is its religious significance. It is a time when specific spiritual opportunities are available to experience. For others Holidays are opportunities for friends and relatives to get together and celebrate life. Most people get a few days off during the Holidays so there is an opportunity to renew family bonds or spend time with good friends. Relatives that you haven't seen in a while join together with you to celebrate the family that you belong too. Our lives have become so hectic and stressful that we spend way too little time with the people we love. This causes all sorts of health

problems, both emotional and physical. When I was very young I used to hear adults talk about "stress" all the time, and it seemed like a "fake" disease or an excuse for people to get together and complain about work and other responsibilities. Now that I am in my 30s and I am dealing with "adulthood" and all its glory, I can attest that stress is one of the most unpleasant things I have ever dealt with. What it does to our bodies AND our hearts, it's a scary thing. We all need some time to cool off, to step away from our daily worries and to decompress… and the Holidays are the perfect time to do that, and to really worry about what's important in life. I encourage you to remember that this time

should be used in ways that above all, give you peace and happiness. Remember that Christmas is not in the size of the tree in your house, or even the amount of lights decorating your front porch. It is not in the amount of gifts we send or the greeting cards we get. Christmas is in our hearts. Christmas it's in the kindness we show others, and the smiles of our loved ones. Christmas is what we make of it with those who we care about the most, so make it a great one. My best wishes for all of you during this season, and a wonderful new year 2018.

Pasco Camera Exchange, “Preserving Your Family Memories” As time passes, families grow and change and, too often, family history can become lost. When you look at an old photo you may not remember its significance. If your grandparents are no longer around to tell the story behind the photograph, the memory may be lost forever. As time passes, your old home movies, slides, photos, and videos change too. Movie film, slides, and photos fade, change color, and become brittle or fragile. Even videotape degrades over time and when video formats become obsolete; your family’s memories may be lost. The staff at Pasco Camera Exchange has over 30 years of experience in audiovisual production and we understand the importance of preserving your family’s precious memories for future generations. Located at 5405 Main Street in New Port Richey, Pasco Camera Exchange has been a trusted source for over 20 years in camera purchases (both new and used), camera repairs, photography supplies and classes. Pasco Camera’s customers are enjoying finally being able to view those boxed-up memories with ease and convenience. Unlike many corporate drugstore chains, all of Pasco Camera’s video transfers are done locally. Many people don’t know that when they go to the large chain drugstore to have a video transfer made, most of the time, their old photos, films or negatives are sent out-of-state and

Pasco Camera is able to transfer your old photos, negatives, slides, Regular 8, Super 8, and 16mm film and most all formats of videotape. Video transfers can be simple or a full blown video productions with music, titles, and DVD navigation menus. You can even order extra copies economically to share so everyone in your family and your friends can share in the enjoyment.

sometimes even out of the country, so they run a risk of losing those irreplaceable memories. You also don’t receive the one on one personal attention of a trained technician working on your memories to make them the best possible, not a mass produced product without the personal touch. Preserving the Past So many people have that big box of slides in the back of their closet – photos that are close to 100 years old or old family movie film – what you don’t realize is that you can easily lose them to decay if you don’t transfer them to a digital format.

Environmental factors such as temperature, humidity and sunlight affect photographs significantly. Not long ago, there was no way for an individual to indefinitely safeguard those films, but with advances in digital technology, those precious moments of personal history can be preserved for generations to come. Video Transfer Video transfer is the solution. Pasco Camera offers a variety of video formats options to meet your budget and quality needs. They use digital video technology and DVD media that will play on your DVD player. Also offered is

“Pho Quyen” Continued from page 1 specials and new dishes to the menu while continuing to serve customer favorites. They recently began offering sushi rolls and sashimi on weekday evenings and all day on the weekends. On a recent visit to Pho Quyen, Lisa introduced Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles photographer Mike Bird, and me to some of the new fall specials that Vuong has developed. We started off with the bang bang shrimp appetizer – tempura shrimp in a spicy mayo and bang bang sauce made especially by Vuong. They were perfectly crispy with just enough spice to give it a little kick. The Beef Stew is

each and every dish he makes. While Pho Quyen offers new appetizers and special dinners every few months they also have over 125 traditional Vietnamese dishes on their menu - many with a choice of meat or vegetarian option and with various levels of spice to satisfy your cravings. Best of all, if you’re uncertain about which dish to choose, Lisa and the rest of Pho Quyen’s friendly and helpful staff are happy to talk to you about the types of dishes you like and help you choose a new favorite from the Pho Quyen menu. Pho Quyen only uses the freshest ingredients and that’s apparent with every bite of food. Lisa says they order their herbs and produce from local farms when possibly. Lemongrass is make,” says Lisa, “you have to cook it with the herbs for a long time to get the right flavor.” In addition to a variety of noodle soups, Pho Quyen also offers Pho noodle soup with beef, chicken, vegetables or seafood. I had to ask about pronunciation because I’ve never been sure and Lisa told me it is pronounced Fa. Lisa told me that Pho is the main noodle soup of Vietnam and that many people consider it a healing soup because of

the variety of healing herbs in it. No matter whether you’re in the mood for Pho or something else, Pho Quyen has you covered. You can get dishes with fried rice, broken rice, rice vermicelli, rice noodle, egg noodles or crispy noodles all with freshly made sauces, herbs, and whatever meats or vegetables you desire. If you’re looking for an authentic drink to go with your lunch or dinner, you’re in luck at Pho Quyen. They

“Samantha Taylor” Continued from page 1 people I was taught the wrong way to eat food. I had to learn how to change my relationship with food. I still love food and enjoy it but have made the decision to not eat food that causes diseases and is bad for my body.” Samantha says that on her 40th birthday, her husband challenged her to give up sugar. “It seemed like a massive thing to do because I was a sugar addict but my first goal was to go 3 months without sugar.” Samantha says that giving up sugar and other harmful foods does not mean you have to eat bland, boring meals. In fact when you are a member of Samantha Taylor Fitness you have a nutrition educator developing yummy recipes for you and giving you customized grocery lists to make your weekly meal planning a breeze. “Everyone loves the zucchini lasagna,” says Samantha. “For my birthday the staff made our no sugar, low carb, gluten free cheese cake. It is delicious.” Samantha has these and other holiday treat recipes for cookies and chocolate pecan pie posted on her web site for Tampa Bay News &

Don’t put it off any longer. In December you need to start thinking and planning for January.” Don’t be that person, who gains weight during the holiday season, be the one who loses it and get 2018 off to a great start. Samantha has helped many clients who thought they were too old or too far-gone to lose weight. Her client Kate, just celebrated her 65th birthday by going zip lining, mountain climbing and horse back riding. “When Kate first came to me she was 50 pounds overweight,” said Samantha. “When I met her, she was one of the most upset people I’d met for she felt hopeless. She said she could not believe how fat and old she had gotten and that it was just who she was and she’d come to accept that.” Samantha told Kate that she had to make up her mind to live differently and Kate accepted the challenge because she didn’t have anything else to lose. Fifty pounds later and Kate is a totally different person with a new outlook on life.

Samantha Taylor “I’m so glad that God brought Samantha into my life,” she said. “Feeling this good at 65 and celebrating my birthday like this has been absolutely amazing.” Samantha also sees a lot of clients who have been exercising their whole lives but have stopped seeing results. “Judy who is 62 worked out for an hour and a half every day for 2 years

but was not seeing any results. She joined my program and lost 31 pounds in 4 months. She was overtraining and her nutrition was not in line. She just came to a seminar we held on surviving the holidays without gaining weight and said, ‘I don’t tell myself I’m on a diet just that I made some adjustments to my nutrition. Samantha showed me

the way to do that.’” In addition to the nutritional education and support, Samantha

Taylor clients also have a Life Coach cheering them on and helping them through the program and 30-minute exercise programs tailored for the way they want to work out. “We have 2 different types of 30-minute exercise programs. Personal training is a more private, customized training either 1-on-1 or in a semiprivate or small group setting and Fitness Boot Camp is a faster paced, more intense group workout led by our personal trainers.” When you talk to Samantha, her enthusiasm is infectious and her desire to help others impressive. “Our country is in a massive health crisis. One out of 3 people die from cancer and one of 2 suffer from heart issues. We need to change that. My goal is to open 20 locations throughout Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties. My mission is to positively impact 10,000 families in those communities over the next 5 years.” An ambitious goal for sure but one that does not seem impossible when Samantha is taking it on as a challenge. If you want to be one of those people positively impacted, if you’ve

struggled with weight gain and are ready to make a change, schedule an appointment with Samantha Taylor Fitness. With just 30 minutes of exercise 2-3 times a week and guided nutritional support; you’ll be on your way to a happier, healthier you. Grout Tech owner BJ explains, “Color sealing grout lines is one of the many services we offer and it is definitely the most effective way to create a perfect, new look.” Using a step-by-step process, Grout Tech begins by using a cleansing product to remove all bacteria and surface dirt with special machinery. They will then apply a color seal (of your choice). Once the sealer is applied the grout lines will be permanently

people don’t understand is that franchises are often forced to charge more for their services because they have to maintain their franchise fees, but not with Grout Tech.” Not only does Grout Tech keep its rates competitive, but the company will also honor any other quote as long as it is in writing. Carla Bartow, a satisfied customer, shares her experience, “When BJ came out to give us a quote, she looked at the job and I could tell immediately that she knew what she was talking about. We had our family room, kitchen and dining room re-grouted. They also regrouted the tub, shower and base of

our toilet in our bathroom. They were fantastic! Not only were they professional and reliable but they also completed the job much faster than we had anticipated.” Repeat customer John C. says, “I had Grout Tech come out to my place three years ago. The service was excellent and the price was great too. I recently rehired Grout Tech to come out to complete my other two bathrooms, which they’ll begin working on in June. I chose Grout Tech once again because their professionalism and skill is unbeatable.” Another satisfied client, John F. says, “My wife and I had a bad experience with a grout service

company we hired off Craigslist. The work was terrible and they lacked professionalism. My wife found Grout Tech and we were so happy the connection was made. We loved that they were great with our pets and felt really comfortable having them in our home working.
