Studio 7 is Westchase’s One Stop Pampering Shop By Deborah Bostock-Kelley With years of experience as a nail technician and a degree in Chemical Engineering from USF, in 2012, Charlie Ngo opened Studio 7 in the Publix shopping center in Westchase with one goal in mind - reduce his clients’ time and be a convenient one-stop shop. For Charlie, the name Studio 7 is significant. Not only is it his lucky number, it represents what makes his location stand out above others in the same field. Unlike his competition, Studio 7 is opened Monday through Sunday for those who want their pampering available seven days a week. With three stylists and four nail art technicians, he wanted to be make the shop services accessible to those professionals who work during the week to accommodate their

busy schedules. In addition to most hair care services, Studio 7 also offers nail care, facials, body treatments, makeup application and spa packages – bringing everything to one place, in one convenient location. As an exclusive Redken and Pureology salon, Studio 7 use products which promote healthy hair. Keeping customer health and safety at the forefront, their Keratin Smoothing Treatments are formaldehyde and DDP free. Every precaution is taken to ensure clients’ well-being. Nail art technicians practice sterilization and sanitization procedures similar to those of a dental office. Each client has their own bag of instruments used only for that customer. Rebecca W. says, “I have been using Cornerstone for a couple of years now. I started off on my primary house with plumber Kiel installing an iron/water filtration for iron in my well. I then had an electrician install additional outlets at my home and a HVAC agent service my a/c system. I was talked into buying the service plan by Kiel and I’m so happy I did. I am getting quality work at a discount. Today I have my dad’s rental property getting flipped, because well it needs to and he can’t do it anymore due to dementia. I hired some contractors to fix up the property (redo floors, tile work, and even install cabinets). One contractor even claimed to be a prior plumber and assured me he could conquer the job with quality. Well…thank goodness Jerry, a Cornerstone plumber, came to my rescue because my so-called plumber had no clue what he is doing. Jerry is taking the time to make sure the plumbing is done right and to county code! Going above and beyond the call of duty. Every time I have called cornerstone for electric, plumbing, or HVAC it has always been top-notch service. Thank you!” With Cornerstone you always receive professionalism, quality work and quality products. Ellie's Restaurant - Tastes Just Like Home! By Carla Dubis Ellie's Restaurant located on Race Track Rd is one cozy, casual and affordable American eatery serving the most mouth watering breakfast and lunch seven days a week. They are open Monday-Friday from 6:00am till 2:30pm, and breakfast is served until 11:30am. On Saturday and Sunday they open at 7:00am and they conveniently serve breakfast ALL DAY. Breakfast is my personal favorite food, so I was extremely happy to find out I could go to Ellie's on a random Saturday at 1:00pm and get my egg, bacon and pancakes fix with a delicious coffee. One thing always comes to my mind when I think about Ellie's‌ and that is family. The place is family owned and operated by Dino Mihalopoulos and his family. Dino acquired Ellie's from previous owners Tom and Ellie, a lovely older couple who were looking to retire but wanted to leave their restaurant in the hands of people who were as family oriented as they were. So, when Tom and Ellie met Dino and his family, who came here all the

10

JULY 2017

way from Philadelphia, they knew that their diner was going to be in great hands, and that the family tradition would live on. Since Dino took over Ellie's a little over a year ago, a lot of things have remained the same. The name Ellie's was a family staple so they held on to it, also because Ellie's had a great reputation and people from the neighborhood knew the name and loved the place. Dino told us that he even kept the back of the breakfast menu the same, which depicts a cute cartoon of previous owners Tom and Ellie. A lot of the food items are named after the previous owners, and Dino would not have it any other way. Not only is Ellie's all about family, but the food tastes like it was cooked by your favorite and extremely gifted in the kitchen grandmother. When I had a spoonful of their daily special broccoli and cheddar soup, and after I took a bite of my triple decker club sandwich, all I could think of was "this tastes like home." Ellie's food brought me back to my childhood years, and days when my parents would drop me off at my

grandma's house and she would spoil me by cooking me the most delicious homemade meals. Each delicious bite at Ellie's tasted like nostalgia and provided me with a sense of comfort I have never experienced in any other restaurant. Right then I knew Ellie's was a special place and I would become a regular. Not only is the food homemade, scrumptious and delicious, but the prices are incredibly affordable, and

the staff treats you like you are part of the family. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by many smiling faces, and as you are seated someone will ask "What would you like to drink today honey?" Coffee or sweet tea is usually my answer. Ellie's offers an extensive Breakfast menu, including classics like bacon and eggs, french toast, biscuits and gravy (which come with a

Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles

homemade sausage gravy that is to die for!), Tom's Famous Omelettes (I recommend their greek or their spinach, feta and onion), and a large selection of breakfast sandwiches and pancakes and eggs combos. For lunch, Ellie's variety of wraps, cold or grilled sandwiches, hot or cold subs, melts and salads provide enough options to satisfy the entire family. I have had the pleasure of trying many

Tampa Bay News & Lifestyles

sandwiches at Ellie's, and again‌ each one tasted like it was made by one of my talented family members. They just pile on the meats and cheeses and the result is always great looking sandwiches that taste like they were made with lots of love! So far one of my personal lunch items is the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich. Dino recommended it to me and my fiance when we stopped by and we were both amazed at how delicious this sandwich was. At first I was a little hesitant because so many places in Tampa claim to have amazing Philly cheese steaks but more often than not, they fail to deliver‌ that was not the case at Ellie's. I was incredibly surprised at the amazing taste and wonderful presentation of this warm, meaty, super cheesy delicious sub. The big, warm hoagie roll was definitely a key factor in the wonderful taste of this sandwich, it was very fresh and moist from the sliced beefsteak juices. Each bite was better than the last, the remarkable mix of juicy steak, peppers, sauteed onions, mushrooms and the perfect amount of melted provolone cheese was simply to die for. If you go to Ellie's for lunch and find yourself wondering what to get, trust me, get a Philly Cheese Steak.

Remember that Dino is from Philly, so he knows the secrets on how make authentic and fantastic Philly Cheese steak sandwiches. I could eat those every day, no joke. But where would the fun be if I always ordered the same? I am a foodie at heart and I like to try everything once. That's why I love Ellie's daily specials, listed online and on a board inside the restaurant, you get a long list of options available that day. And you can add a soup or salad to any entree for $2.00. Let me mention that most daily special entrees are less than $10.00 and the portions are HUGE. No other place can compare to the quality, taste and prices of Ellie's. So there's no need to go anywhere else! Don't drive around wondering where to eat today, avoid spending money on greasy and expensive fast food chains. Do your taste buds and your wallet and favor and head to Ellie's for the most mouth watering, homemade and affordable food in Tampa Bay. Ellie's Restaurant in located at 12008 Race Track Rd, Tampa, FL 33626. Visit www.elliestampa.com to see their daily specials.

Don’t let Spot Get too Hot!

How to keep your four legged friend cool this summer.

By Billy Alice Florida is known for many things, not least of which is the HEAT! While most of the country assumes it’s always Summer here, us Floridians know the hot honest truth. Summer can get brutal and for our fur wearing friends it can be even more unbearable. So if you have a canine companion here are a few tips to keep them cool and how to spot if they’ve gotten too hot! First things first, always make sure to have a lot of fresh water available for your dog (year round) but especially in the summer months. This will keep them hydrated and help cool them from the inside out. One of the best ways to avoid overheating, is to plan outdoor activity in the early mornings and later evenings when the temperature is lower. When going on walks keep your pup on grass or light concrete as much as possible. On a 95° day the concrete can reach a temperature of 120° at peak sun hours and the grass can still reach 105°. If the ground is too hot for your bare feet, it’s too hot for your pup! In the hot months try going on shorter walks more frequently instead of long walks that can lead to exhaustion or overheating. It’s also never a good idea to let your pup sit in a parked car even if the windows are cracked or open. Cars can quickly exceed the ambient temperature of the air even in shade, so if they can’t come inside where you are going, leave them at home in the air conditioning.

To help expel some of your dog’s energy but still stay cool, consider playing in the hose or sprinkler with your pet. It is a great way to keep you both refreshed and have some fun! If you have access to a pool or body of water taking your dog for a swim will help them get in activity but stay cool in the process. When using water to cool your pup you should avoid using any water that is ice cold however, as that can constrict blood vessels and make it harder for your dog to release excess heat. Wetting their ears with water or rubbing alcohol will actively help them cool off if you notice any signs of heat exhaustion. Be sure to keep a close eye on them and familiarize yourself with the symptoms of heat exhaustion in dogs, especially when doing outdoor activities. Signs include, excessive panting, rapid heartbeat, disorientation, collapse, brick red gums or tongue, vomiting and respiratory distress. If you notice any of these contact your vet immediately and start actively cooling them down. A normal temperature for a dog is between 98° and 102°, a dog’s temperature should never go above 103°. The best way to keep your dog safe and happy is just to be aware of them and their surroundings. Summer doesn’t have to mean indoors only for your best friend if you keep these tricks in mind.

Different frozen treats are a fantastic way to help your pup beat the heat, my St. Bernard loves plain ice and now comes running at the sound of our ice machine. Also freezing different stuffable toys with vet approved fillers can work wonders for a hot dog. Both my dogs love frozen watermelon or apples, and blended banana and peanut butter is always a crowd pleaser! Just be sure to check with your vet before changing your dog’s diet.

Another trend in hair coloring is shades of platinum and titanium seen in all ages. “The titanium is a little darker than that platinum which is more silver,” he explained. Not only are vibrant colors and silvers the trend this season, but on the opposite of the spectrum, a natural-looking, low maintenance balayage ombre. “It lasts up to 3 to 4 months,” he said. the conservative side, the salon also carries the standard shades of browns, blacks, blondes, and reds. He explained that his stylists really enjoy taking clients from dark to blonde hair. “We offer OlaPlex products that prevent breakage during the (color) lifting for people with dark hair who want to become blonde or lighter color,” he said. “During the process, some of the hair may not be able to tolerate the process and the brandnew line of OlaPlex additive prevents damage from happening. It preserves the hair bond and hair integrity.” For Charlie making his clients feel beautiful is one of the perks of his job. He recommends calling for a hair appointment so the stylist has ample time to discuss the look the client is looking for. They offer the products used to take home to create texture, volume and shine. “The stylist needs time to see what hairstyle works with your particular facial structure, your work, and your lifestyle. The service is customized to each individual. We want to take the time to get to know you and see what you like, so we can provide the exact service that you need,” said Charlie.
