Town Of Islip Paves Way

For Private Investment At

The Town of Islip announced a plan for private investment at Long Island MacArthur Airport including a terminal and direct connection to the Long Island Rail Road’s Ronkonkoma Station. The Town plans to create a stateof-the art, comfortable, and modern terminal with a direct connection to the Ronkonkoma Station that will increase passenger traffic at Long Island MacArthur Airport, benefit local residents, and provide a better customer experience. The plan will provide the New York region’s only single-seat plane-to-train connection to either Grand Central or Penn Stations in midtown Manhattan.

“Long Island MacArthur Airport has the opportunity to become a more viable, convenient and affordable option for air travel in the region,” said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter in announcing the plan for a privately financed, built, and operated terminal at one of two sites at MacArthur Airport. “We are going to ensure that it can grow Long Island to provide more travel destinations for the current and next generation of travelers. We will do so while preserving the hometown appeal and convenience that will make MacArthur Airport the envy of the region,” said Supervisor Carpenter.

The private developer will have two terminal options to evaluate – either on the property adjacent

to the Ronkonkoma Station or on the site of the existing terminal on the south side of MacArthur Airport. Notwithstanding the site, the developer will be required to provide a convenient, direct connection to Ronkonkoma Station. The Town will retain ownership and responsibility for MacArthur Airport operations.

“In partnership with the private sector, the terminal project will create highpaying jobs, spark huge economic opportunity, and make Islip even more attractive for sustainable business development that will help keep our highly educated workforce here for future generations,” Supervisor Carpenter commented in announcing the program.

In 2024, Long Island MacArthur Airport, known by its airport code as ISP, served almost 1.3 million passengers on four commercial carriers: Southwest, Frontier, JetBlue, and Breeze. JetBlue began service to ISP in 2024 and announced additional service to a fourth destination in 2025. Avelo Airlines’ recent announcement of new service to three

destinations from ISP beginning in May 2025 will make Avelo the fifth commercial carrier at MacArthur Airport and bring to 18 the total non-stop destinations from ISP. Ten years ago, MacArthur Airport had only two airlines serving six destinations.

Airports throughout the United States and the world have seen the advantages of partnering with the private sector in developing modern, customer-friendly terminals. The success of private investment projects at both large airports like LaGuardia and JFK and smaller airports like Seattle’s Paine Field and Tweed-New Haven Airport demonstrate the value of these opportunities.

The Town formally issued a Request for Qualifications for private developers today. The RFQ is available at www.ispterminal.com. Proposers will need to register by May 2, 2025, and have until August 14, 2025 to submit their statements of qualifications. After that, the Town will follow a rigorous multi-step process for evaluating the proposers’ qualifications and, ultimately, selecting a private sector development and financing partner.

Recipe Of The Week: Pasta Primavera

Warmweather, blue skies and time spent outdoors are hallmarks of spring. Springtime is a season of rebirth and renewal. That’s evidenced by budding trees and the return of frolicking animals. Spring also can be a time to refresh meal-making. Now is the time to trade in those hearty, filling dishes that are perfect for cold winter nights for lighter fare. Recipes like “Pasta Primavera” from “Seasoned America” (William Morrow and Company, Inc.) by Chef Paul Prudhomme can be brought out in spring and enjoyed throughout the warmer seasons. In Italian, “primavera” means “spring,” making this classic, vegetable-infused pasta dish a favorite this time of year. The vegetable inclusions below can be switched out for your own favorite produce as well.

Makes about 8 cups

Seasoning Mix:

2 1/2 teaspoon dried sweet basil leaves

1 1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves

3/4 teaspoon white pepper

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

2 teaspoon olive oil

1 cup thin strips prosciutto

Directions:

2 cups cauliflower florets

2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms

1/2 cup sliced carrots (cut on the diagonal)

2 cups sliced zucchini

6 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 teaspoon minced fresh garlic

1 cup asparagus tips or 3/4 cups snow peas

1 cup chopped green onions

2 cups heavy cream

9 ounces of your favorite pasta

Combine the seasoning mix ingredients thoroughly in a small bowl.

Heat olive oil in a 12-inch skillet over high heat. When oil is very hot, add the prosciutto, cauliflower, mushrooms, carrots, and zucchini. Add the butter and, as it melts, stir in the garlic and the seasoning mix. Stir in asparagus tips or snow peas and green onions. Stir well and cook just until the vegetables are crisp-tender, about 4 to 5 minutes. Stir in the cream and bring to a boil. Lower the heat to medium and cook until the sauce has thickened a bit, about 3 minutes.

Cook the pasta according to package directions; drain. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, toss well and remove from the heat. Serve immediately.

Helping Hands Easter Drive

The Helping Hands Easter drive, held on April 8th at the Babylon Beach Estate Association in West Islip, was a big hit. Volunteer bunnies, young and old, gathered together to create beautiful gifts for over a thousand Long Island children. The children were given homemade quilts, crocheted stuffed animals, and holiday outfits. Helping Hands has been proud to instill a sense of tradition for the last 35 years by caring for

local children in need and showing acts of kindness. Donations can be made through: https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=Q84FKWW5F42DW. Like us on Facebook https://m.facebook.com/HelpingHandsInWestIslip/https://m.facebook.com/ HelpingHandsInWestIslip/

Small business owners no doubt recognize the value of repeat customers, but few may recognize just how valuable such customers can be to

The Value Of Repeat Customers

their bottom lines. A study from researchers at Harvard Business School found that a customer’s eighth purchase was an average of 80 percent

higher than his or her first purchase.

In addition, a survey from the strategic planning, marketing and sales consultants Altfeld, Inc. found that the probability of selling to an existing customer is between 60 and 70 percent, while that probability shrinks to as low as 5 percent for new

customers. Customer retention strategies like offering superior customer service and seeking input from customers can help small businesses generate more repeat customers, which can greatly improve their chances for long-term success.

Tea has been enjoyed as a beverage for thousands of years and has featured prominently in many cultures during that time. The cultural practice of drinking tea is believed to have originated in ancient China. Although there are many different types of tea, the World Tea Council says black tea is the most consumed tea across the globe, comprising around 75 percent of total tea consumption. The most popular type of black tea is Assam tea, which is grown in India. The second-most widely consumed tea is green tea, which accounts for approximately 20 percent of total tea consumption.
