FROM THE OWNER Dear Prospective Home Buyer, It’s a tradition in my family to refer to our homes not by the street name, but by the number…so, welcome to 6538! I knew the minute that I walked into this house that it would be a home to me and my young son. I made my way to Virginia to find a community that would become a place of stability and peace for us and a place where we both could grow together with friends, neighbors and, in my case, in my career. I have been gratified with the decision down through the years as the area has grown and prospered. Franconia Commons is a community from the minute you turn off Beulah Road. You wouldn’t know it today, but I can reflect on how this area has grown from corn fields and horses right along Beulah to a beautiful area where you can hibernate if you want to without feeling congested or stifled and easily get back in the fast lane whenever you are ready. We are a true neighborhood. I’ve lived among neighbors who became extended family and have shared many laughs and even some tears. My neighbors at times have looked out for my son coming in from school, held on to my keys to water my plants while I was away, or been seated at the other end of the pew at church. Together we survived hurricane Isabel and our fair share of snowmageddons, and shared everyday memories that I’ll cherish, of folks sitting outside in the evening with a pipe, walking their dogs, planting flowers, shoveling snow together and participating in community gatherings like Easter egg hunts and Halloween parades. We’ve shared graduations, weddings and births of children and grandchildren. We watched our little children grow into young adults and, to this day, I stay in contact with several of my neighbors who have since moved away. I know the home will grow on you just like it did for me. When I came here, I was able to move into a place that was warm and cozy so that we could spread out from apartment living. As an “army brat” I became familiar with moving, but when I came here, I knew it was to stay awhile. It has not only been a refuge and launching place for me, but also a home that accommodates every square inch as I was able host family events and house my niece after my son went off to college so that she could start her career and eventually purchase her first home. I hope that I will leave you with the same welcome that I felt and that you can imagine, just like I did, sitting with your coffee (or tea) at the sunny bay window or sitting out back on the patio and eating crabs under an umbrella with your family. I came for a little while and looked up and it has been 23 years. I’ve made many life changing trips from here, celebrated so many holidays, seen my son get married and have 2 wonderful and yes, handsome, grandsons and lost first my father and then my mother after traveling back and forth to Oklahoma to care for her as Parkinson’s progressed. Each time when I returned from happy or sad moments, once I put the key in the lock, I was home. So, I’ve taken all my kitchen gadgets (I love to cook), and taken all my artwork off the walls, and I am preparing to retire and relocate nearer to where the bulk of family is in Oklahoma. It is bittersweet to leave, but my story is coming full circle. My son and his family are back in Oklahoma and as I move on to the next phase of life, I will be there to be with my grandsons in the joyful chaos of the music recitals, sports, cookouts and Sunday dinners at my next house number.
