Experience the pleasure and excitement of traveling through mid-19th-century France. From Paris to the countryside, the top of Mont Blanc to the Mediterranean, this exhibition features 125 important paintings and photographs, from 36 major museums. This exhibition has been co-organized by The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and Saint Louis Art Museum. Support is provided by the Hall Family Foundation, Marion and Henry Bloch, Barton P. and Mary D. FREE EXHIBITIONS History & Hope: Celebrating the Civil Rights Movement Through May 18, 2014 | Gallery 214 Created in collaboration with the American Jazz Museum and the Black Archives of Mid-America, this intimate exhibition celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington and the 1964 signing of the Civil Rights Act. Showcasing the work of artists and musicians who were pivotal in the struggle for human equality and racial harmony, the show includes labels with personal responses by Kansas City artists, musicians and activists. Cost: Museum members receive discounts on classes, 30% for Society of Fellows and 20% for Friends of Art. The discounted member prices are listed in that order with the public price last. We accept individual enrollments only; one person may not enroll students from multiple families. Enroll early—class size is limited. Enrollment deadline is three days prior to a class or workshop. Classes that do not reach a minimum enrollment will be cancelled and fees refunded. Parking for museum members is free; nonmembers parking for more than 30 minutes, either to attend class or wait while their student is in class, will pay $5 per vehicle. Cancellations/Transfers/Credits: Students can cancel an enrollment five business days prior to a class or one-time workshop to receive a refund less a $15 cancellation fee per enrollment. Transfers from one class to another can be up until five business days prior to a class with a $10 transfer fee. No refunds or transfers will be made for cancellations made less than five business days prior or due to missing a class. FRIDAYNIGHTFUN THE BEETLES Ages 6–12 with adult 6:30–8:30 p.m. | Friday, January 17 $35/$40/$50 per adult-child pair Hunt for beetles—the symbolic scarab representing the sun and magical rebirth—in ancient Egyptian art and create one of your own in clay. Participants will glaze and leave their work to be fired. Finished pieces will be available for pick up beginning February 1. YEAR OF THE HORSE Ages 7–12 with adult 6:30–8:30 p.m. | Friday, February 7 $28/$32/$40 per adult-child pair One of the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac, the horse represents power, strength and perseverance. Celebrate the Chinese lunar New Year by learning how to work with a bamboo brush and ink washes to create your own scroll painting of a horse.

THE DOLL AS ART 1:30–4 p.m. Saturdays, February 15–March 15 $91/$104/$130 Instructor: NedRa Bonds Art dolls are considered to be unique, one-of-a-kind art objects rather than toys. Various cultures have used dolls to teach and entertain, as funerary figures, good luck charms and magical devices. Find out more and create your own art doll sculptures.
