Captive mounting screws are part of the frame assembly so they can’t fall out. This design speeds reassembly and prevents lost screws.
Advanced Ergonomics & Safety Fitting the tool to the worker... To make them truly ergonomic for all workers, Series II Trimmers are offered in five interchangeable handle sizes. Plus, they can be set up for either left-handed or right-handed operation … with an adjustable thumb support … with flanged or flangeless handles. There’s even a post handle kit available for larger models. Special safety features designed into Series II Trimmers include: Ergonomic Handles – Specially contoured handles and textured handgrips reduce grip force and improve overall grip. All Series II handles are ambidextrous and designed to fit a wide range of hand sizes. There’s even an adjustable thumb support for maximum comfort and control.
Safety Disconnect Handle – Instantly stopping the trimmer whenever an operator's hand grip is released, this feature contributes to worker safety. MicroBreak Hand Strap – Supporting the hand during production use, this strap allows operators to relax their fingers between work cycles while still maintaining control of the trimmer. This beneficial feature can reduce risks associated with hand stress. Built-in Steeling Device – Available on select models, this feature not only promotes safety during the on-line sharpening process, it also improves cutting performance by preventing rolled blade edges.
Vibration-Absorbing Handle – Series II handles are made with a vibration-absorbing material to provide additional comfort and keep hands warmer than metal handles. Bidirectional grip design improves tool handling by adding “traction” for your hand.

Whizard Trimmer Maintenance Overview
Flex Shaft & Casing Maintenance Proper flex shaft and casing maintenance is critical to good trimmer performance and parts life. These critical parts lubricated before first use and cleaned and re-lubricated after every 20 hours of use.
Clean flex shaft with a clean cloth.
Clean and Inspect Flex Shafts Remove the flex shaft from casing and wipe with a clean cloth. Inspect the flex shaft for wear, broken wires, kinks, or corrosion. Also inspect the ferrule for wear. Note: Broken flex shaft wires will lead to flex shaft and casing failure.
Gel Method
#
WhiZLube Heavy Duty Lubricant (Part 185548)
Place a quarter size portion of WhiZLube in the palm of your hand. Apply an even coating of the lubricant along the entire length of the flex shaft. Reassemble the shafts into the casings.
WhiZLube Aerosol (Part #173519) Lay a group of flex shafts on a covered surface and generously spray them lengthwise. Be sure to turn the flex shafts to ensure total coverage. If lubricating only one, an alternate method is to hold the casing with one hand and spray the flex shaft while it is being inserted into the casing.
For Maximum Flex Shaft and Casing Performance
Clean and lubricate after every 20 hours of operation. Do not use flex shaft washers. Avoid contact with mineral oil. Use only Bettcher WhiZLube aerosol or gel. Do NOT use any other grease! Do not over bend, kink, or knot casings. Keep Series II casings upright and straight when not in use.

Proper Housing Adjustments
Image 1. The correct blade housing adjustment is critical for proper trimmer operation. If the housing is too tight the trimmer may overheat. The motor-driven flex shaft and casing may be damaged, and parts life will be reduced. If the housing is adjusted too loose, it may cause rough operation and gear damage. Here's a procedure to help you get it right: Tighten Blade Housing: Begin by threading both screws in the pinion cover. Then tighten the right cover screw. Next, secure the left cover screw— then loosen the left screw a half turn to allow for blade and housing adjustment. Blade Adjustment: Gently pry the housing open (see Image 1) until the blade has a slight amount of side clearance in the housing in the direction of the arrow shown in Image 2 and the blade rotates freely. A slight amount of clearance is all that is needed. Finally, tighten both cover screws to the recommended torque and recheck the blade clearance and rotation.
Loosen Blade Housing
Right
Left
With the left screw loosened, gently pry the housing open if the blade is not moving freely.
Image 2. Check blade for clearance and rotation.
Recommended Torque: 30 - 35 lb. in. (3,4 - 4,0 N-m) Important: Make sure the blade is free to move in the housing. If the blade does not move freely, it may cause the trimmer to perform poorly or overheat.
The blade should turn freely with a slight amount of clearance in the direction shown by the arrow.

Cover Wear Testing Simple test to determine the time to replace.
Torque Limiting T-Handle: A Key Part of Your Toolkit
Begin by making sure the cover is tightened securely … that is, the cover retaining screws are tightened properly (very tight).
Torque Wrench Kit Part #183900
Begin with a properly tightened cover using the Bettcher Torque Limiter 30 - 35 lb. in (3,4 - 4,0 N-m)
The “best practice” to secure the pinon cover and housing is to use a torque limiting T-handle tool (Bettcher Part #183898) to secure the housing quickly and properly.
The cost of a T-handle torque limiter is about the same as a new pinion cover, so it makes sense to invest in this tool to ensure all Trimmer parts are properly assembled for maximum life and performance. Additionally, many maintenance pros find that using the T-handle torque limiter is faster, easier and more precise than using a straight blade screwdriver. Part # 183900 183898 183899 183901 183902
Description Kit 183900 Torque wrench Socket ¼” 6 pt Socket 5/16” 6 pt Extension ¼” x 3” long
Apply gentle pressure, if the housing moves, the cover is worn.
Using a straight-blade screwdriver, slowly apply pressure to the housing. If the housing moves easily without much pressure, the cover is worn. It should be replaced, as it can no longer secure the blade and housing and may become a safety issue in addition to running rough.
Preventing Cover Damage
!
If the blade housing does not move easily unless a lot of pressure is applied, then the cover is still good and has useful life. That's all there is to it! By using this simple test, you should improve Trimmer performance and lower maintenance costs.
Loosen First
You may also view a video clip demonstrating these test procedures. To view the video go to:

TRIM VAC
The TrimVac Solution Clean • Fast • Effective
Cut and Vacuum Away Spinal Canal Tissue
TRIM VAC
Clean, Fast, and Effective In the evolving science and regulation surrounding the removal of the beef spinal cord, Bettcher Industries brings an innovative solution to this challenging and labor-intensive job. 速
The new Whizard TrimVac provides the quickest and cleanest method for removing beef spinal canal tissue. TrimVac marries patented Whizard Trimmer technology with a powerful vacuum system to provide efficient removal of spinal cord and sheath. Operators now have a fast and effective method to trim and vacuum away spinal canal tissue that reduces worker exposure and the potential for cross contamination.
Preferred Method The TrimVac has quickly become the preferred method of spinal cord removal in European beef processing plants. In addition to its effective performance, TrimVac helps control labor costs associated with spinal canal cleaning, while making it easier for plants to meet customer and regulatory requirements.
The TrimVac cuts and vacuums away debris in the spinal canal.
How it Works The TrimVac is used to dislodge, cut and vacuum away the spinal cord and sheath. Pneumatically powered, the TrimVac uses a rotating blade to provide the cutting action, while a highly effective vacuum system removes the tissue. Material is conveyed so spinal cords do not come into contact with the carcass, workers or floor, the work area has less opportunity for contamination and the process is simplified.
TrimVac delivers a clean spinal canal.
