ABOUT US We are a SME technology based company launched in 2012, dedicated to the microalgae biotechnology, with a high innovative and entrepreneur profile. Our main goal is to develop healthy high value products from microalgae, for food, farmacy and cosmetic industry. We harvest our own microalgae cultures in Asturias, under controlled conditions and following sanitary and normative standards. From our cultures we have been developing our diferent brands and products. In 2015 we launched a range of FOOD SUPPLEMENTS in powder format, with the microalgae species approved for human consumption such as: · NEOSPIRULINA and ENCAPSULATED SPIRULINA from microalgae Arthrospira platensis · NEOCHLORELLA from microalgae Chlorella vulgaris In august 2016, we took one step further to incorporate this microalgae and other superfoods in processed foodstuffs such as VEGETABLE SOUPS. Due to a succesfull crowfunding project in Kickstarter platform, we were able to set up a processing plant in Asturias. In 2017, we launched our brand new range of NATURAL COSMETICS with microalgae extracts, made by us is Asturias with natural ingredients (most of them organic), obtained by environmentally friendly processes and not tested on animals. Every cosmetic product contains a different microalgae extract.

PROJECTS NEOALGAE is included in the register of innovative companies, as it has been accredited by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness with the Innovative SME Seal. In addition, it has been selected by the CDTI (Center for Industrial Technological Development) as a model company for the HEROES OF INNOVATION section, within the framework of the EUREKA secretariat that the CDTI is practicing during 2016 and 2017. As for the innovative features, it should be noted that they are closely related to the R&D projects that the company is carrying out. NEOALGAE innovates throughout the value chain of microalgae, with developments in its cultivation, drying and extraction processes. On the other hand, innovations are directed to different sectors, such as health, cosmetics and food. INNOVATIONS IN THE HEALTH SECTOR Project MIDMAE (Application of Astaxanthin of Microalgae in Macular Degeneration). Ongoing IDEPA project, through which we study the properties of the astaxanthin produced in Asturias, based on its antioxidant properties for the application in ocular problems, which is aligned with the scientific priority of biomedicine in the field of specialization.

INNOVATIONS IN THE ENVIRONMENTAL SECTOR ReCO2very project (CO2 emissons recovery from waste incinerators and its use for the production of microalgae). Project in progress CHALLENGE COLLABORATION 2014 which aims to take advantage of CO2 emissions from a waste incineration plant and leachate water to grow microalgae suitable for later use as raw material for the production of biogas by digestion and for the production of gas adsorption filters. AQUAINVAD-ED Project (AQUAticINVAders: Early Detection, Control and Management). Ongoing European Project H2020 MARIE SKĹ ODOWSKA-CURIE ACTIONS to develop innovative methods for the early detection, control and management of Invasive Aquatic Species (AIS). The project will catalyze the research and commercial activity in the detection and management of AIS, as well as in the application of codes of good practice for European industry and government agencies. Project MARBIOFEED (Enhanced biorefining methods for the production of marine biotoxins and microalgae fish feed). European Marine Biotechnology Project ERA-NET which aims to isolate biotoxins using improved biorefinery methods for the preparation of reference materials and to enable research on the effects of biotoxins in other important aquaculture industries. On the other hand the production of microalgae as fish feed will be improved.


Project LEDALGAE (Industrialized production of astaxanthin from microalgae). Project NEOTEC in progress that aims to develop a novel and sustainable process (environmentally friendly extraction methods avoiding the use of toxic substances and permitted in food) of industrialized production of astaxanthin from Haematococcus Pluvialis. INNOVATIONS IN THE FOOD SECTOR Project PHYTOIL (Production of a high value oil enriched in fatty acids from microalgae). Finished project FICYT to produce an oil enriched in fatty acids of high value, especially in Omega 3, from autotrophic cultures of microalgae. Project already completed. INOALgASTUR Project (Implementation of a Health Concentration System based on microalgae Spirulina). Completed project of the Business Development Platforms 2015 of Gijón thanks to which a novel and affordable photobioreactor (ALGLOW) suitable for the cultivation of the microalgae Spirulina has been developed. Its design and easy to use operation system, makes it possible to be incorporated in professional or domestic kitchens, for the obtaining “in situ” of fresh biomass for the production of healthy recipes and drinks. Project MICO2NACAR (Integration of a system of culture of microalgae, extraction and nano encapsulation of high-value compounds for healthy meat products). Ongoing Project INTERCONNECTA. NEOALGAE works as a subcontractor to develop healthy and /or functional meat products with microalgal biomass or extracts for the enrichment in omega-3 and / or fiber. Project VOPSA2.0 (Value Omega 3 and Astaxanthin products from SeaAlgae). EUROPEAN PROJECT SME INSTRUMENT PHASE II which aims to market a range of products based on Omega-3 and high quality astaxanthin, both produced by autotrophic microalgae to be used in nutraceutical products, cosmetics and pharmaceutical applications. By the way an innovative and sustainable cultivation and extraction process will be developed. INNOVATIONS IN THE COSMETIC SECTOR DIMASKIN Project (Development, combination, formulation and encapsulation of bioactives from Microalgae for skin care). European project EUROSTARS which is currently under way to produce DHA / EPA, arachidonic acid and astaxanthin from microalgae to develop a super-premium cosmetic ingredient. INNOVATIONS IN THE ANIMAL FEED SECTOR PRODUCTION OF ALGAL EXTRACT WITH HIGH CONTENT IN DHA FOR THE FORMULATION OF ADDITIVES DIRECTED TO ANIMAL FEEDING. Completed project of the Business Development Platforms Program 2013 in which a new process has been developed to obtain a product rich in omega-3 DHA from microalgae to be used in animal feed formulation for improving both the health of the animal and the quality of the food produced. Project Plan for the promotion and commercialization of algal extract rich in high value oil (Omega3) and directed to animal feed. Project completed IDEPA EBT that had the objective of valorize and launch the results of the R&D&I project developed by the company from which a new process of microalgae culture was developed for obtaining a product rich in Omega 3. It can be used for the formulation of food supplements intended for the manufacture of animal feed, improving animal health.

Astaxanthin is a carotene with natural antioxidant properties, obtained by solvent-free extraction from the microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis. It is a ketocarotenoid derived from xantophylls and it is naturally found as a red pigment present in microorganisms and some fish and crustaceans. It is the most antioxidant carotene. It can protect skin from UV radiation, prevent inmune sistem diseases and macular degeneration.

Betacarotene is an antioxidant carotene, obtained by solvent-free extraction from the microalgae Dunaliella salina. It is a member of the carotenes which are isoprenoids. B-carotene is a precursor to vitamin A. It is naturally found as an orange pigment in microorganisms and plants. In addition to its effects as provitamin A, it has an important antioxidant capacity.
