The investment will create new cutting-edge facilities for higher level technical training with a focus on digital and sustainable technologies across a number of sectors including engineering and construction.
Institutes of Technology (IoTs) are unique collaborations between existing further education colleges, universities, and leading employers.
Employers can be confident that people studying at an IoT are gaining the skills needed now and in the future.
Through our partnerships, we are embracing new technologies, pedagogies and research, which are shared across the Institute of Technology Network.
Julie Kapsalis, Chief Executive and Principal at Nescot, said:
“We are delighted to be working in collaboration with partners to develop the future of STEM education.
Institutes of Technology inspire people of all ages to challenge themselves and invest in their skills. Nescot’s expertise and values fit perfectly with the IoT ethos and it’s very exciting to be part of this successful regional project.”
An apprenticeship is a real job where you learn, gain experience and get paid. You’re an employee with a contract of employment and holiday leave. By the end of an apprenticeship, you’ll have the right skills and knowledge needed for your chosen career. It can take between one and 6 years to complete an apprenticeship depending on which one you choose, what level it is and your previous experience. It’s funded from contributions made by the government and your employer.

I’ve only been doing my apprenticeship for a few months, but I can already see a lot of changes to my work and my behaviour. I’ve got a lot more self-confidence and self-belief, and I’m more motivated.
The course is helping me to understand the business context around me, and through that knowledge I’ve already been able to start making positive changes for my team and the organisation as a whole. It’s giving me the belief in myself that I can effect change, and that’s powerful.
I hope my experience shows people how versatile apprenticeships are. They’re great for people at the start of a new career, but apprenticeships are just as useful for people who are already in a career and want to progress to the next level.

HIGHER APPRENTICESHIPS
Higher Apprenticeships provide a different route to gain Level 4 qualifications or above, with most apprentices gaining an NVQ Level 4, HND, or a foundation degree. Training fees are paid by the government and the employer, so there is no requirement for a student loan for fees.
A Higher Apprenticeship can take from one to five years to complete, and it involves parttime study at an institution like Nescot. The main appeal of an apprenticeship is that you are working whilst you are studying.
This provides you with both an income and real-life experience in your chosen profession. Apprenticeships are designed with employer and industry needs in mind, hence they are very relevant to the job you’ll be doing. An apprenticeship also gives you a head start in employment as government figures say that 90% of apprentices in England stay on in employment, 71% of them with the same employer.
