I

f ‘sitting’ is the new ‘smoking’, then do we need to put injured and twisted pictures of people’s bodies on the price tags of chairs when we buy them (like the graphic pictures of mouth cancers on packets of cigarettes) with a label, “Warning! Do not use this chair continuously without breaks and stretches”. I must admit, with increasing the amount I am writing and being on the computer, having ways to move and stretch is even more important than ever before. When I say important, I mean there is more of a priority for me to listen to my body and interpret the language of my body. When you make a promise to yourself to be more aware, then there are fewer and fewer places you can hide from

yourself and it becomes more and more difficult to ignore your body. It’s actually easier to listen, tune in to your body and ask questions about what it requires! This month we have a feature on ‘move and be with your body’ which has a variety of perspectives and modalities for you to consider and even try out for yourself and see which ones resonate. We are delighted to have Lauren Vercoe, pioneer of Zenko Yoga featured on our cover this month and a great interview with Nicole Taryn. ½ cup almond meal 1/ 3 cup coconut flour ¼ cup coconut oil ¼ cup honey or rice malt syrup 1 tsp 100% vanilla extract 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp water

a bit longer, place back into the oven and watch carefully until you see golden crumbs of deliciousness. 9. Allow to cool completely. They will go yummy and crunchy. Ok next!

Method: Line a 24cm (10 inch) springform cake tin with baking paper. Start with the biscuit topping, you can even make this the day before and spread out the cake-making experience.

BASE 1. Place all the base ingredients into a food processor or blender. Whiz until well combined, it will become almost a smooth choccy butter. Yum! 2. Spread the mix into the prepared tin, ensure it is even. 3. Place the tin into the freezer.

TOPPING 1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking tray with baking paper. 2. In a large mixing bowl place the cashew crumbs, almond meal, coconut flour and mix together. 3. In a small saucepan (or you can use your microwave) melt the coconut oil, honey and vanilla together. 4. Take the saucepan off the heat and add the baking powder and water, stir together until it foams and turns a white-ish colour. 5. Pour this into the dry ingredients and mix well until combined. 6. Spread the mixture onto the prepared tray in a thin layer and place into the oven for 5 minutes. 7. Mix it around and place back into the oven for another 5 minutes. 8. You want it to be golden, so if it needs

FILLING 1. Drain and rinse the cashews and place them into a food processor/blender along with the coconut milk, coconut oil, honey, tahini, vanilla and salt (not the dates). 2. Whiz until completely smooth, this will take around 5 minutes. 3. Pour 1½ cups of the mixture on top of the base and place back into the freezer for at least 10 minutes. 4. Now drain the dates and add them to the remaining filling mixture in the blender/processor and whiz again until combined. 5. Pour the toffee/caramel filling on top of the vanilla layer, then evenly sprinkle all the biscuit crunchy bits on top and lightly press them into the filling. 6. Place into the freezer for at least 2 hours or until set.

7. Once the cake is set take it out of the freezer and rub the outside of the cake tin with a hot cloth and release the spring form slowly (you may need to run a knife around the edge). 8. Cut into slices with a hot knife and enjoy! Oh and drizzle with melted sugarfree chocolate if you like! 9. Store leftovers in the fridge or freezer and thaw out when you’re ready for a slice of healthy Gay Time Cake (or merry time!). MERRYMAKER TIP: This isn’t really a ‘quick’ recipe… but it is easy! Y

our body can be accumulating mercury and other heavy metals over time. Some sources through which you may be getting mercury are: dental amalgams, seafood consumption, some vaccines and mercury pollution from coal-burning power plants. In terms of dental amalgams, the mercury filling from your mouth evaporates from the surface of the amalgam and is inhaled, absorbed into the blood, and then converted to inorganic mercury (the most toxic form of mercury to cells). Inorganic mercury builds up far more in your organs of elimination; for instance it’s 100 times as high in your kidneys and liver than in your brain. The results are far more damaging when it does make its way to the brain than to any other organ. Some people with high exposure to mercury do not become sick and others, even with a low amount, become very ill. Why is that? The answer lies

in your ability to detoxify naturally. In order to find out which person you are and what you should do about it is to have a check-up. Have a mercury test done and check if your detox pathways are blocked. Your health practitioner can refer you or we can guide you appropriately. Thereafter, you can start to eliminate the sources of mercury mentioned and stay on a detox program for a while, as prescribed by your health practitioner. Glutathione is an antioxidant produced by the body and is your body’s main detoxification system; however this requires the assistance of enzymes, antioxidants and transport proteins. I

t’s not every day that you discover a product that is truly innovative with the ability to actually change the world for the better. While recently living in San Diego, California I found it – the ‘Garden Tower’. I have always pottered around the garden without much success (the bugs always seemed to eat more of my vegetables than we did), and a busy corporate job never afforded me the time to get serious. It was only when a very generous neighbour called Jim kept bringing around bunches of excess fresh greens, herbs and veggies that I got curious (or maybe jealous) and went over to find out his secret. There it was, standing in all its orange glory – his Garden Tower. Jim had huge bunches of kale, lettuce, basil, thyme, coriander and rocket growing from the sides of the tower and a healthy bush tomato, chilli plant and a capsicum growing out of the top. All were laden with fruit, all in 1.2sqm. I was instantly hooked! Jim excitedly showed me the secret to the ‘Garden Tower’; a compost tube that runs down the middle of the

TOWER story container. All you need is a handful of compost worms, your daily organic waste and you start producing rich black compost and worm juice that naturally fertilises the entire vegetable garden. The worms wriggle around the tower aerating the potting mix and plant roots leaving behind their castings (worm poo). Every time you water, the water filters down through the tower, collecting the worm castings depositing worm juice into the collection draw. Both the compost and worm juice can be directly added back into the top of the tower, creating a nutrient dense growing environment that super charges the growth of your plants. So here it was, a vertical container garden that I could grow 50 vegetables and herbs all in 1.2sqm. No weeding, self-fertilising, recycles most of my kitchen scraps, captures all unused water so no wastage, made from Food Grade (no BPAs) recyclable HDPE, rotates 360 degrees so all plants share the sun, and I could put this tower on

almost any level surface (balcony, deck, driveway, rooftop etc.). I had to have one! On returning to live in Australia I knew that I had to share this innovative product and launched the ‘Garden Tower’ here last year. The response has been amazing and we have been lucky enough to be featured on national TV and radio programs. It is no surprise that the US-made ‘Garden Tower’ is winning awards for its innovation (2014 and 2016 International Design Award and the 2016 Green Thumb Award in the US). One of our goals is to get Garden Towers into schools to teach children how to grow food, and the importance of recycling and sustainability. This extreme temperature is required to generate sufficient steam, but some people find it difficult to breathe when the air is this warm. Far infrared saunas work differently. I

t’s Tuesday morning at Zenko Yoga, and as the early morning light shines through the front window of the studio, Lauren Vercoe is preparing to greet her clients for the 6am ‘Power Flow’ class. While many were still sleeping, Lauren had already completed her morning routine to prepare her two young girls for their day. The movement from mother, to yoga teacher, to employer, to business owner and back to mother again appears seamless. And it invokes curiosity as to how this dynamic woman and solo Mum manages to maintain her poise and 12

presence, in a life in which many would be hard-pressed not to outwardly display signs of being overwhelmed. Her simple answer is yoga. On an average day Lauren will take up to 150 yogis through three classes of ‘Power Flow’ before she hands over the reins to one of her yoga teachers to finish off with the evening class. Lauren Vercoe is no stranger to being busy and she is certainly no shrinking violet when it comes to knowing what she wants to achieve in life. At the age of 22, after spending a few years working and travelling internationally, Lauren decided it was time to head home and choose her

career path. She’d been told by people that she would be great at PR. Not really having a full grasp on what PR actually was, she promptly mapped out a tertiary education pathway and opened her boutique PR company in Melbourne, securing media for her first two clients, before she’d even finished her qualifications. Stress and adrenalin soon became the platform from which Lauren ran her life. “Media is not an industry where you can simply close down your laptop at the end of the day. You always have to be on and you are always looking for the next opportunity to sell your client’s content,” says Lauren.

Having tried yoga haphazardly as a teenager, Lauren followed her fiancé’s suggestion to try yoga in an attempt to reduce the adrenalin, on which she was running her life. She soon realised that there was something greater available to her than simply stretching her body. With the overwhelming stresses of wedding preparations and running a busy PR company, Lauren booked herself into a two-day yoga retreat in an attempt to unwind. Little did she know that it would dramatically change the course of her life. While on retreat, Lauren felt a burning desire to share the benefits of yoga with as many people as she could. Encouraged by the instructors at the retreat, who told her that she had something unique to offer in the world of yoga, she enrolled in yoga teacher training and began winding down her PR company within weeks. Lauren’s capacity to make a decision, take action and get results in a very short amount of time could easily be considered one of her most impressive qualities. While others are still pondering

their ideas and analysing the pros and cons, Lauren has already found the tools, established the foundation and is halfway through building her dreams. She has a unique way of observing her self-doubt, without giving it the power to stand in the way of achieving her goals. Her selfefficacy is superior and she draws on her innate belief that anything is possible to propel herself forward when many would be still negotiating the self-doubt. So, true to her style, before she’d even finished her teacher training qualifications, Lauren opened the first of two successful yoga studios in Melbourne, filling her first class and selling multiple visit passes within the first week. The rest, as they say, is history. Fast forward to now and Zenko Yoga at Buddina on the beautiful Sunshine Coast has become a household name and thriving yoga studio in just two short years. After opening Zenko Yoga in Buddina, Lauren dreamt of opening up another studio in Noosa over the next five years. Interestingly, a series of synchronistic events led to the speedy opening of the Noosa studio which coincided with the Super Moon on 14th November 2016. “It was totally unplanned, yet it all happened so easily,” Lauren says, amazed and grateful for how quickly her dream became a reality. “Yoga enables me to be the very best version of myself. Through yoga I have fallen in love with myself,” explains Lauren. “You have to be comfortable in your own company and for many people that can be quite confronting. If you are willing to be comfortable with yourself, you’ll find that you begin to unveil the limiting belief systems that are stopping you from reaching your full potential,” she says. Lauren describes how Zenko also became her own healing sanctuary as she navigated her way through the ending of her marriage. She openly describes how she would often find herself wiping away tears before invoking a smile as she opened the doors of the studio to welcome clients. She found herself challenged by her beliefs around being a woman alone in the world and through her practice, found faith in her capacity and capability to move on with her life. She credits her strength and tenacity to the time she spent on the yoga mat, not only teaching, but sitting quietly and searching within during her practice, to find her inner self.

Lauren tells us, “I’ve witnessed some amazing transformations in people, sometimes within an hour of a class. People think they are coming to yoga to gain more flexibility in their body. What they don’t realise is that they will also gain more flexibility in their mind.” She goes on to say, “What I’ve found is that the more authentic I am in sharing my own journey, the more my clients relax and ease into their practice. It’s as though my vulnerability gives them permission to not have to strive to be perfect and to feel okay with whom they truly are.” Zenko Yoga is a studio that embraces the practice beyond the physical benefits. Lauren prides herself on providing a space of non-judgement, where clients are encouraged to sit in child’s pose for an entire class if that’s what their body requires. “When someone can be aware of what their body needs on any given day and they honour that, then that is a sign of a true yogi,” reflects Lauren. Zenko is a space for self-exploration, where clients can learn to drop the façade of the ego. There’s no need to push oneself into the most advanced expression of a pose, or compare with others. The practice is unique to the individual and Lauren and her teachers are simply there to guide. Yoga assists us to flow with purpose. ine-year-old Bianca was brought in by her Mum as she continually stated the words mentioned above. Her mum could not understand this as Bianca was sporty and could move her body in extraordinary ways. In fact, Bianca was very good at sport. If Bianca did not play outside or do sport, her Mum said she would become irritable and disruptive. It was important that Mum understood Bianca was an AQUA child – Millennium Children® and they need body movement and movement energetically. AQUA children (and adults) need to move their body. They are sporty, active and alive in all ways. They feel trapped by their body and limited. These souls have the innate awareness of Lemuria

and free movement per quantum reality and sacred geometry. Lemuria was and is about free flowing energy, no limits and no fear. For AQUA children, fearbased emotions are entrapment and will trigger their feelings of movement in the body. Hence why they must move continually. Fear-based emotions like anger, guilt, annoyance and rejection will create an AQUA to move their body as this is the way they vibrate the fear to love-based emotions. Movements can be throwing, rolling around, running away and in a guided way, playing sport or jumping on a trampoline or riding a bike.

On a metaphysical level, these children feel trapped in their bodies, as in the absolute they know they can access potentiality. For Bianca and her Mum, they were given life strategies for AQUA personalities and it was imperative Bianca always play sport and also had time to imagine which allowed her to feel unlimited. This allowed Bianca freedom in the mind, body and spirit.

These continual movements can be seen as disruptive in the classroom and at home, especially at restaurants when parents ask their child to sit still and they can’t. It can also create issues when teachers ask a child to sit still whilst listening to a book being read. For the AQUA, moving their body is healing and supportive. If the child cannot move, they will feel trapped and the energies within them implode and explode, which can come out as emotional volcanoes… anger and frustration.

MOVEMENT IS LIFE, LIFE IS MOVEMENT WORDS KATHRYN HOOD

A

ll of life is movement. Our blood flows and our hearts beat. Our cells are perpetually moving. Our energy moves subtly, constantly. Our chakras are moving. The cosmos moves. When movement stops, stagnation sets in. When we fail to move, we begin to feel old, rigid and stagnant. It doesn’t matter how old we are. Often this stagnation goes unnoticed. It becomes the norm to use our arms to push ourselves up out of our seat and then to move slowly until our body finally loosens up enough to shift gears into a more agile state. The chronic underuse of our bodies in modern culture is bordering on an epidemic. The human body is designed to move. Sitting, now often referred to as the new smoking, is more than merely sedentary. It creates imbalances in muscles, it compromises our digestion, it is not kind to our joints and it blocks many energy channels so Prana or Qi find it hard to flow, to name but a few instant side effects.

All of our muscles, organs and nerves are enveloped in various types of connective tissue called fascia. When we spend hours each day without much movement, two things (and probably more) happen to the fascia. Firstly it thickens or thins to help hold the different parts of the body in their repetitive positions and secondly, the lovely hydrated nature of fascia begins to dry. The result is the muscles find it difficult to glide over each other, thickness builds around the joints and the natural juicy rotation becomes fixed and rigid. The perineurium, connective tissue that surrounds the nerve fascicles, also begins to dehydrate; not unlike the plastic casing around electrical wires when it is left out in the sun. Directly connected to the nervous system, fascia works hard to protect us from pain and instability. Eventually, though, the battle becomes overwhelming and movement becomes inhibited and finally painful. Movement is our freedom of expression. Our busy lifestyles and

our often technologically-based lives are impacting directly on an element of our freedom that we can choose to take back. If our movement stagnates, we stagnate. We begin to feel old and grow old. What can you do about it? Walk, hike, breathe, stretch (you can raise your arms above your head every 15 minutes wherever you are… apart from the car, perhaps). Feel your body. Side bend, rotate, look up, look down, wiggle your toes. Every part of your body is important and every part is connected to every other part. Your head is connected to your feet through your fascia. There are manual therapies that work directly on fascia, hydrating, lengthening, opening, returning posture and balance to the body. These speed up the process of returning to movement, but you can start wherever you are right now. All movement is life. Without movement there is no life. artofmovement.com.au

1. TAKE TOTAL RESPONSIBILITY When something does find you, it is from a past choice of ‘yours’, conscious or unconscious. It is not the outside experience causing the conundrum, it is the outside experience giving you an opportunity to make a different choice. In these times, usually we avoid the actual different choices that are available to us – the ones that will set us free, grow us, move us forward well and give different results. Because at the time, they seem hard, impossible, and take us way out of our comfort zones. 2. CONNECT WITH YOUR BODY’S CONSCIOUSNESS It will connect you to your subconscious, higher self, future self, the entire universe etc. Say out loud something like this, “Body, show me today clearly what my lightest choice forward is here.� 3. ACKNOWLEDGE THAT ALL CHOICES WILL WORK OUT FOR YOU AND ARE VALID This step is very, very important.

CONNECT WITH YOUR BODY

When you do this, you invite all possibilities in. You override your ‘ego’ that will do its best to keep you ‘safe’, in blame and a victim. It will try and tell you one choice is better than the other; keep reminding you bad things will happen if you choose what your intuition may be saying, or something different or new. Your emotional body will become more intense and your mind will start to go to extremes with negative stories the further you step out of your comfort zone. Your ego will keep you in what is ‘known’ and what you have done before – regardless of outcome! Different and new choices will create different and new results. 4. PAY ATTENTION TO THE ‘SIGNS’ Not the signs from your emotional body or negative stories. These signs are in your environment – in many places. When you come from a space of “all choices will work out for me�, your body’s consciousness will give you many, many signs throughout your day for a choice that will ‘feel light’. It will

float to the top of all the choices and you will be able to ‘perceive’ it. Pay attention to everything that shows up this day. 5. TRUST YOURSELF AND WHAT YOUR BODY’S CONSCIOUSNESS SHOWED YOU This is the easy part – ‘seeing’ your choice in your environment. We are so supported, only always in all ways. If you are willing, brave and open, you will see it clearly. It’s our wobbly emotional bodies and negative stories that can take over this natural process of feeling and trusting your gut. A knowing will drop in when you see the ‘signs’ that are your direction. This knowing will fuel your momentum to take action. The bigger the conundrum, the more ‘unsafe’ your choice’s outcome may feel. However, unless we choose something different, the same situation will find us again. NOT TO MOVE?

W

hen you hear this Madonna song, most times you can’t help but get moving and dancing. However sometimes you just do not have the energy, motivation, interest or even the ability to make yourself get moving, let alone tap your toes. This doesn’t always mean you’re unwell. These days with all the awakening processes happening, the earth’s frequency and the human vibrational field in a state of upgrading, we are going through some big transformations internally and externally. And it can be like the full spectrum swing of a pendulum; exhausting, exhilarating, confusing one moment, crystal clear the next, full of ‘gung ho’ let me ‘at em’ for a few days, then the crash of no energy; where you can’t even think. So, what’s happening? Over the last few decades the Global Coherence researchers have been

monitoring the earth’s frequency from equipment placed in various points across the earth. The data collected enables scientists to see the spikes in human consciousness when traumas and big events affect our safety. This includes heart opening occurrences such as a fabulous public figure passing away. These monitors have been steady for a few years recording the earth’s frequency which is called the Schumann Resonance. This research has indicated that the earth frequency aligns with human brainwaves. As the earth’s frequency lifts, our brain goes into a different level of functionality and vice versa. Since the 80s it has steadily registered about 7.8Hz, which is similar to human brainwaves of theta. However, since 2014, the resonance has been spiking, creating a sense of quickening in life, time, and our awakening process. It’s recording measurements of 12-15Hz which is like the brainwaves of an awakened calm state, which means things are shifting. Recently in February, we had measurements up to 30+Hz, which is

quite a leap. When there is deep inner change, transition, or transformation, we must accept we are in an adaptation process. It is exhausting at times, and confusing. I liken it to a new baby adapting to life outside of the womb, or young children going through growth spurts and teenagers transforming into young adults. Sleep or rest is the medicine, the requirement, the healing and transition into the next stage. There are times when we must be still, rest, sleep, to allow the energetic workings to anchor, recalibrate and reset us to the new vibration. Getting moving is great when you have the motivation, energy, clarity, and we all need to do it every day, however when in transition, sometimes we have to be still, and not feel guilty. Acceptance of the inner KNOWING, that something else is occurring and excess movement may be more depleting, becomes a personal call to your own truth and connection to you. raelenebyrne.com

ou own one of the world’s true supercomputers: your central nervous system. It processes three trillion bits of information every second. Only about 50 of these are conscious. This amazing system uses electrochemical impulses to operate. They travel along a nerve at 300km/h which is essentially “The speed of Life!” It is the only system that is totally protected by bone. This is because it is the most important system of the body for maintaining life. that allow us to remain upright and functioning. One is to use our muscles instead of our bones as our support, or we can realign our body. When we become a muscular being, we are in effect reducing the amount of electrical and fluid energy to the greatest amount of cells. The action of our muscles is to contract and release and plays a significant role in the circulation of oxygen-rich blood. Muscles that remain contracted or flaccid in a rest position have a reduced amount of circulation and a slower rate of cellular renewal… ageing. A body whose structure is in alignment with gravity moves effortlessly and gracefully with full spatial awareness. The bones are aligned at the joints with the ideal space between them and the weight of the body rests evenly within the pelvic basin and the feet. The muscles are released from the effort of supporting the structure and can again return to their natural functions. A point to make here is that the muscles we use consistently have better circulation. The muscles least used not only get the least amount of circulation but also the motor neurons to these muscles disconnect. The body is conservative and if it’s not being used, it’s no longer connected… if we don’t use it, we lose it… ageing.

With this in mind, if we look at our daily movement patterns, we’ll get an idea of which parts of our body move the most. I’ve noticed most people use the front of their body more than the sides or back, so the muscles at the front of the body have better circulation. This means they contract and release more, but if the body is out of alignment the front muscles become more contracted, curving the spine forward and shortening the front like a curled up caterpillar. The reason we don’t end up looking like a caterpillar is because the joints of the ribs, spine, hips, knees and ankles rearrange themselves so we can remain upright. The ribcage thrusts forward and the lower back or lumbar spine collapses inward. The pelvis rotates, tipping forward, pushing the heads of the femurs forward as the socket tilts backward. The base of the femur at the knee joint is pushed slightly out of alignment, twisting, and the body weight descending from a tilted pelvis lands ungainly onto the outer edges and the front of the feet. Then we stuff our poor feet into shoes that don’t have enough space or flexibility to make the many joints in our feet move, as they are made to create supports that cut out the movement of the intrinsic muscles that power the individual articulation of each one of our

toes… the little curly one on the outside too! I understand that the shape and the way we use our body is also how the smallest parts (the cells) of our body look and behave. If our body looks shorter than it used to, if the bones are twisted and some joints can no longer articulate or there’s a lack of power in our hands and arms, our toes are all squished out of shape and knobby; our cells built that. How to change it is to reverse the process. Change the loading on our cells by moving back into alignment with gravity so the bones can once again do the thing they do so well… support us. They love it and flourish under the impact of our weight landing evenly, completely and lightly, the percussion reverberating back up through our bones, sending a clear message to our nervous system that all is well. Micro movements can help open neural pathways to under-used muscles and increase movement in joints. I start with the feet, aligning the feet then isolating the movement of the ankle from the foot to create a stable foundation for the body’s weight to rest upon which in turn will free up the rest of the foot for the smaller bones to articulate over uneven ground and give more power to our gait. THE MOTIVATION TO MOVE WORDS RACHEL KENNEDY

T

here’s been an interesting change we’ve noticed when people call to make a booking with us. Previously people used to call to enquire about “weight loss”, whereas now we have more people looking to change their eating patterns, and wanting to take better care of their body. There’s a greater emphasis on health, and weight loss is seen as a product of well-being, not just an end in itself. While research (and commonly our experience) suggests that changing our eating patterns (for example, eating less sugar, less processed foods… simply eating less) will certainly lead to more balanced weight and health, we find that our clients who begin to use their body more will notice that their health improves faster than if they simply focus on food. We’re designed to move so our body remains strong and can work properly. All of our body systems work together to help us achieve and

maintain health. A good example of this perfect system is when we increase our muscle mass, our endocrine system functions more effectively… and when our hormones are balanced, guess what? We better metabolise food, our digestion improves, our blood sugar levels balance out… and we usually find ourselves at a more ideal weight. It’s not about exercise, it’s about moving our body. For most people that means it’s also about “motivation”, and motivation’s twin, “willpower”. When we want to be healthier, we usually have a motive – we usually have a goal, with pretty good reasons for aiming for that goal. But that’s not exactly motivation, it’s more like desire. And sadly, motivation is not some kind of divine energy that magically appears to push us towards that which we desire… So when we realise that having a motive is not enough to get us moving, we have to ask, what will be? We all have knowledge about what

we should do, but our behaviours are driven more by our feelings. This is what we need to pay attention to: how we feel being sedentary, and how we feel (or imagine we would feel) when our bodies are doing what they are designed to do. When our feelings are aligned with our knowledge then things begin to happen much more easily. The key to motivation is really simple: Action. Doing it once, doing it again, then repeat! That’s the only way to make moving our body something that we do, rather than something we “should” do. And while that might take some will in the beginning, willpower itself is not sufficient for lasting change. With a little repetition these new actions become habit and habit requires less effort and does not require will. Out of this action, this doing, motivation automatically arises. o you feel out of touch with your sensuality, your sexuality? P

ratyahara is a yoga word, which means to draw the senses inward in order to still the mind. This fundamental process allows the practitioner to move from the analytical, thinking and logical monkey mind to a place of FEELING. When we move out of our logical mind and into the feeling body we arrive home. Home is a place where we trust, where there is no judgment and we feel unconditional love for our bodies and ourselves. From this safe haven we are able to practise mindfulness and our movements become authentic, less rigid and energy shifts are frequent and discerning. To move our bodies from a place of complete awareness is the path in traditional yoga. Through learning to become a yoga teacher, we listen into how our body feels, where there are blockages and turn our awareness to these points. We understand deeply

that while these blockages may be present in the physical body, they are connected with energetic blocks in either the mental, emotional or spiritual layer of the metaphysical body. It is this profound realisation that often creates the necessary vehicle for change – change in direction, work, relationships etc. What I cherish is sharing my love and passion for yoga with students who have chosen the sacred path of yoga teaching. I often get asked if there needs to be a certain level of practice, a certain body type, a certain degree of flexibility to which the answer is always NO. Every BODY is unique and therefore how that body moves is individual to that person. This simple insight can have profound effects on how students move, practise and teach yoga. For me personally, each practice is different and I am no longer attached to how my practice needs to look, feel

or be. My practice is sacred as I journey inward to see how my body wants to move every day. There are times when the movements are dynamic with lots of arm balances, inversions and flow. Equally there are days with long holds, guided meditation and a sense of space. Both practices are authentic, mindful and allow me to connect with my truth. Next time before you move, close your eyes, take three deep breaths and ask yourself “How do I feel?” Listen with an open mind; be vulnerable to what you hear back and try to listen to the softer sounds rather then the loud voice in the forefront of your mind. very day in the clinic, I speak to people with chronic inflammation somewhere in their body. This inflammation can always be traced back to the gut. Inflammation can be evident in the body by presentation of allergies, skin complaints, asthma, and even auto-immune diseases. In order to treat these complaints, often, patients have been to other complementary health practitioners before coming to see me, and they are armed with an array of supplements that have been prescribed to them. These supplements are often well prescribed for the condition, however the continual usage of the supplements is required for ongoing benefit which can be quite unsustainable in the long term. here is no one quite like you on this planet, nor has there ever been and your body is also unique. A body is an amazing sensory organism and it constantly senses and receives information from people, animals and the planet. Your body is truly amazing! The beautiful thing is your body doesn’t judge you, it simply asks for what it requires. It has its own wisdom and you will start to develop a different possibility with it by communicating with it. What if asking your body for everything that concerns it, opens the door to a connection with it that you never considered a possibility before? For a long time I believed that I was the boss, and my body came along for the ride. Having trained as a naturopath, I thought I knew what was best for my body. I was willing to get advice from doctors, dietitians, fitness gurus and other experts. But my body was the last voice I would listen

to. The idea that my body has its own preferences was a revelation to me. In the past I spent a lot of time trying to get my body “right” but the things I did were mostly based on judgement. A

s parents, as lovers, as husbands and wives, together with our ‘partner’ we build the foundations for our family. We talk about standing ‘united as a team’ in front of our kids not to approve something that the other has just disapproved, but uniting is substantially greater than that. Uniting is so important to feel truly comfortable and safe with the one we treasure most. It’s important that we can unite beyond the illusions that may be faced in a moment. For example, if one may be triggered; if we were to relax and hold space for them we would shift out of being an opposing force and become one whom can console so resolve may be found. I have seen such an attitude shift over the last 10 years when it comes to ‘working on issues’ as a couple and having a solid commitment. In the earlier days people would shun the idea of ‘advancing’ through things with their significant other, the

common phrase being, “You can’t be your partner’s therapist”. What if instead of being apprehensive about ‘being too close’ you were actually open to the continuity of support, the deepening of love, knowing and trusting that you can contribute to each other? That in allowing yourselves to be open and vulnerable with each other; to have each other’s backs, you can help each other to fast track. Healing, manifesting, co-creating… what it is really doing is increasing your ‘wealth’ as you grow together. You become more deeply invested in the love you have for each other and that which you feel. It’s an old school twist on the now… more people will stay in relationships or married because it is worth it, because it is real, because it is right – rather than the millennial disposable relationships that lack in connection – that being intimacy and communication. 7 SIMPLE YET PROFOUND STEPS TO BE THE PARENT YOU CHOOSE TO BE Step 2: Acknowledge your feelings and feel them motional intelligence stems from our ability to acknowledge our feelings and feel them. However, so few of us have been taught this simple yet powerful parenting tool. If the feelings are overwhelming and pausing and breathing are not enough to quell the emotional charge, take yourself into another room (or do this later when you have a chance) and acknowledge and feel your feelings, whether anger and frustration, or inadequacy and helplessness. Feel it all and give yourself a big hug in acknowledgement of how tough parenting can be! It takes a conscious act of will to NOT react with that old knee-jerk reaction. However, when you allow yourself to fully feel what’s there, you’ll find freedom from the emotional charge

and will be able to respond consciously to your kids in a way they can actually hear you and want to comply. You may also find a little child inside of you who is crying out for your acknowledgement and connection. Spiritual masters say that when we are willing to fully feel a pure, raw emotion, no matter how painful it may be, it only takes 30-90 seconds for the emotional charge to pass through the body and be released. It is only when we attach a story to the feeling and our self-righteous ego gets involved… “How dare he do that…? How could she say that…?” that we prolong the pain, making it bigger and harder than it ever needed to be. Suppressing feelings or projecting them onto your kids without acknowledging what’s really going on, blocks you from getting to the root cause of the issue. And just as you acknowledge your own feelings, acknowledge your child’s, as there

are always big feelings driving the behaviour. If they fall over and cry, kindly acknowledge the truth of what happened as unexpected events can be confusing and scary in a child’s mind… “You were running so fast that you fell over and grazed your knee, and it’s really hurting isn’t it sweetheart?” Hug your child and let them have their tears without making them wrong or mollycoddling them… just be present. You will find that this warm-hearted act of love and acknowledgement for yourself and your child, engenders emotional intelligence, supports healthy communication and deepens this precious parent-child connection for years to come. ook around and you will see examples everywhere of the extraordinary things people are capable of achieving. We all have unique gifts and are capable of achieving amazing things if we allow ourselves to. Reaching the peaks of our potential takes both recognising for ourselves what we are great at, and allowing other people to see what we offer. It saddens me how often I meet people who are blind to the depth of their own potential or are afraid to be seen. The emotions that hold people back from sharing their talents with the world are many and complex. Among the most common I observe is a fear of being judged or ridiculed. There is no doubt our well-known ‘tall poppy’ syndrome undermines the willingness many people in Australia feel to stand out from the crowd. Four of the most important things you can do to stand in your spotlight: 1. CHOOSE TO THRIVE Deciding to thrive is a critical first

step toward making it happen. Wanting to be the best possible version of yourself and achieve everything you are capable of will help you overcome barriers to your success. Reflect on how much happier and fulfilled your life would be if you had the courage to do the things you really want to, unconstrained by limiting belief or fear. 2. APPRECIATE YOUR TALENTS We all have strengths, our recognition and appreciation of them is an important step toward leveraging our potential. Take the time to reflect on all of the things you are great at. Allow yourself to be completely honest about the ways you are able to contribute, make a difference and influence the world around you. Unless you see and believe in your own talents you unlikely step up and give things a go. 3. RECOGNISE YOUR FEARS Fears about what other people think and how they will react are common reasons people hesitate to stand in their spotlight. Understand how fear holds

you back from pursuing the things that matter most to you. What role are you allowing fear to play in dictating the decisions you make about the career or life directions you choose? Don’t be afraid that people will perceive you as having an inflated opinion of yourself. Have the courage to ignore your critics – look past their unfounded beliefs and inaccurate perceptions. 4. LET GO OF PERFECTIONISM Realise and accept that you are not perfect and few people expect you to be. Choose to ignore the views of people who set unreasonable expectations and dish out harsh criticism. Your best endeavours are all you or any other reasonable person can expect. Give things a go knowing it’s OK to fail, all we need to do is get back up and try again. rushed to hospital to undergo extensive surgeries where metal rods, pins and screws were inserted into my body to attempt to heal the damage that had been done. While in hospital, I contracted MRSA (Multi- Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus), a deadly bacterial infection that infiltrated my legs and pelvis, and drastically prevented my recovery. I spent the next nine months in and out of hospital with dwindling health. I had hit rock bottom. The turning point came with a visit from my doctor. He told me I had a

50/50 chance of losing my right leg from the hip down, and that the infection would soon attack my internal organs if it did not heal quickly. I knew in that moment that I had to fight to save my own life. So I left the hospital that day, and decided to take matters into my own hands – I instinctively knew it would have to be up to me if I was going to turn my health around. I crafted a strict nutritional and detox program where I incorporated superfoods and fresh, organic produce. I also implemented yoga and movement protocols including meditation, to heal my mind, body and spirit from the inside out. Remarkably, it wasn’t long until my infection had completely healed. I overcame adversity, and nurtured my body back to a healthy state. It’s interesting how such life altering moments have a way of shifting perspectives. I truly do believe my accident happened for a reason. By applying the power of self-healing, I healed through my near-death journey to recovery, and can now share this knowledge with others who may too be suffering from ill health or unhappiness. EXPOS are good for the BODY, MIND and SPIRIT

T

he Energy & Wellbeing Expo events grew from a little Energy Awareness day in 2010 through to what they are today; heart-centred, well run, fun and loving days! Last year we took the event on the road up north and went to Maryborough and Hervey Bay. Both went well for first events and so we have booked the same venues again in April 2017. April 1st will see us at The Brolga Theatre in Maryborough – a terrific venue with amazing staff. The town was very welcoming and we look forward to a bigger presence this year. April 22nd will see us at The Community Centre in Hervey Bay. It is also a good venue and having learnt some ways of doing things from last year – we believe this will be a great day out in The Bay. Our events are always on Saturdays

from 9am until 4pm. There are still stalls available at both events and the cost is $100 for a 2.5m frontage site. Dates for Gympie have not yet been confirmed but enquires are welcomed. We have yummy food and fantastic coffee at all events. There is space for about 45 stalls in each venue. Besides creating these expos, Di Woodstock also runs ‘Magicality’ which was a lovely well-known shop in Mary Street, Gympie for 11 years. The time came for a change and now it is mobile and going on line, focusing on oracle and tarot cards, with some crystals and books as well. She also has an Aura Camera and does readings at various festivals while selling the cards. ‘Discovery’ and ‘Conscious Life Festivals’ at Kawana are always on her list to attend each year. Besides all that, Di is passionate

about family history and learning why we are who we are. She teaches, researches and is very involved with the local ‘Family History Society’. On top of that, her passion is for prepping Aussie dinosaur bones at the ‘Australian Age Of Dinosaurs’ at Winton with two trips there in 2017 planned (including her 3rd week-long dinosaur dig). And just because it is required, she will hold her first ‘Connecting the Community’ event in Gympie with approximately 70 stall holders to encourage people to find movement and mental activity with others in the community. he Sisterhood of the Rose is a group of gifted women who first came together in Atlantis. Here they created a sacred mystery school. The key aspects of their teachings are being perpetuated in this life as they reunite and remember their important links with antiquity, wisdom and knowledge and with the mystique of the rose. The rose teachings help us to expand our energy field. The teachings help us to sense the rose within the heart – the spark of the divine. Our esoteric rose is as alive and active today as she was then. The rose represents feminine energy. She fostered and embodied the knowledge that needed saving at the time of the fall of Atlantis. here is no doubt a happy, healthy, vibrant life includes regular movement. People who consistently exercise tend to have more energy, sleep better, have less health issues with more happy hormones running through their body. he Chinese proverb, “you become what you eat” is also true when it comes to feeding our animal friends. Pet foods that are full of harmful pesticides, preservatives, food colouring, and chemicals, have been associated with disease. If you want your fluffy friend to have a shiny healthier coat, with sweeter breath and stools, then make them a wholesome diet. If your pet has particular problems, then there are nutritional treatment guides that you can follow. Below are some suggested recipes. Wherever possible buy organic foods. For overweight dogs substitute brown rice for potatoes and for white rice.

Cover, reduce heat and cook until the rice is done. Store in the refrigerator. Add five tablespoons of cod liver/flax oil once cooled.

alking and awareness are two things that we rarely think of together. How often are we actually aware of the act of walking and what a miracle it is that our feet can propel us from place to place? Often we take our ability to walk for granted. The message from the fitness industry is that we have to walk a minimum number of steps daily to be healthy. Yet if we focus only on the quantity of steps, we miss the quality of the steps. Do we take the time to stop and enjoy the perfume of the flowers that we pass? Or are we so focused on how long the workout is meant to last that we are ‘blind’ to everything else around us? Are you up for a daily challenge? Would you be willing to challenge yourself to be consciously aware of five things on a daily basis? It might be the same five things every day, or it might be a different five things. You might be aware of the flowers you see daily as they bloom and change. You might be aware of your love for your children, that also blooms and changes. You might be aware of the sun on your skin. You

might be aware of your breathing and how it flows energy through your body. You might be aware of how much you enjoy exercising. Whatever it is, give gratitude to yourself for taking the time to be aware. Also be gentle with yourself on the days that you aren’t so aware. Life happens. I know there are some days I get caught up in the busyness of life and forget to take time to be in the moment. It’s all okay. Would you like some support on your awareness journey?
