I remember when I used to work with children, assisting them through expressive therapies, there were always amazing shifts I observed through holding the space and through the use of colour, words, no words, music, clay, using the body to make shapes and sounds and patterns. Engaging the whole body, mind and spirit at any age is a creative process… which is what this magazine is all about… reclaiming wholeness and remembering the real you!

eing creative is not just about having a paint brush in your hand and creating a master piece on canvas. And you don’t have to tour the world to be a contribution. For me, creativity is about having the courage to express our uniqueness in whatever way that takes shape: at home with the kids, in business; allowing ideas to flow or just finding the ‘space’ to ‘be’ where inspiration is expressed through you and the journey of life unfolds in front of your eyes. Do you ever find the more you create and put into action, the more energised and alive you feel and then the more you create…?

Galangal

G

alangal is a rhizome and is closely related to ginger. It has a pinkish/reddish skin and pale flesh inside and has a stronger, sharper taste than ginger. Used a lot in Southeast Asian cooking especially Thai, Indonesian and Vietnamese dishes. You can substitute galangal for ginger and vice-versa in any recipe but just be aware that it will have a slightly sharper taste.

When galangal is readily available fresh I buy a lot of it, chop it up into small 2x2 cm pieces and freeze them. Then when I need to use it, I just grate what I need from frozen so there is no wastage.

Galangal has a lot of medicinal advantages too, including (but not limited to) helping ease the symptoms of arthritis, nausea, diarrhoea, flatulence and rheumatism. In Asia it is mixed with lime juice for a popular tonic to help aid digestion and well-being. Try it grated next time you make a smoothie for a bit of extra zing! www.redhotchillipepper.com.au

Thermomix Quinoa Salad If you have Australian quinoa, follow these guidelines before cooking: • Rinse the seeds in a f ne strainer for 1 to 2 minutes under running water, the evening before using it, then soak in a bowl of water overnight.

• In the morning (or before cooking), rinse again under running water for another minute.

If you follow these steps, you shouldn’t have a problem with bitterness.

So here’s my ‘chicken and pumpkin’ version of quinoa salad – see what other variations you can come up with.

1. Weigh dry quinoa into a f ne sieve and rinse under running water (or soak overnight then rinse): - 350g quinoa, weighed when dry 2. Weigh water into Thermomix bowl, place quinoa in steamer basket and insert in bowl. Place eggs on top of quinoa in steamer basket.

- 800g water - 4 eggs, preferably organic free range, well rinsed 3. Place the lid on the bowl, with Varoma on top, and chicken and

pumpkin in Varoma dish.

Make sure the chicken is spread apart enough that steam can get through.

Cook for 20 minutes, Varoma temperature, speed 4. (Check chicken and pumpkin in last f ve minutes of cooking time and break apart with the spatula so it cooks through evenly.)

- 3 chicken thighs, cubed - 250g pumpkin, sliced thinly (about 5mm) 4. When the quinoa, chicken and veges are cooked, remove eggs from quinoa (scraping off quinoa from shells) and peel and quarter eggs.

5. Prepare salad ingredients in a very large salad bowl. I like to use: - a bag of mixed salad greens or baby spinach - sun-dried tomato strips - kalamata olives - thinly sliced shallots or red onion - boiled eggs, quartered - cubed sheep or goat milk feta (optional)

FOOD FOR THE SOUL 6. Add quinoa, chicken and pumpkin to salad ingredients. You can wait until they’re cool if you like, or use straight away for a warm salad.

7. Drizzle with balsamic vinegar and a good quality cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, or whatever dressing you prefer.

8. Sprinkle with toasted seeds and serve. I like a mixture of sesame seeds, sunf ower seeds and pine nuts, toasted in a dry skillet until they’re starting to pop, then drizzled with tamari and toasted a little longer. They give a lovely ‘crunch’ to salads.

urtulla Village Meats is owned by dynamic duo, Mandy and Doug Ensbey.

They are one of the few local businesses that stock hormone and antibiotic free, organic meats and their beef comes from the family farms at Caloundra, Maleny, Tansy and from other like minded farms interstate.

“It’s important to give people good quality meat and inform them about what they should be looking for when buying meat. I was never a social person and have run a million dollar truck business for the past 18 years, so dealing with the public was a challenge and very rewarding,” says Doug.

Farming has been in both their families for many generations. Both families had dairy farms. Mandy’s maiden name is Uhlmann and her great-grandparents owned large parcels of land at Cannonhill and Seven Hills in Brisbane. Her great grandfather was Milk Uhlmann and his father was Christian Uhlmann who lived at Hemmant where their house still exists as part of Hemmant state school. The well known Uhlmann’s Butchers at Stones Corner was founded by their family.

Doug’s family has been at least three generations in Maleny. Doug’s grandfather owned the dairy on Ensbey Road, Bald Knob, Maleny as well as the Eudlo butcher shop. Both Doug and his father were born at Maleny Hospital and raised on Ensbey Road, where his father

and mother and other family members still reside. The old dairy and yards still sit at the end of Ensbey Road where Doug’s niece lives (check out some of their first settler family photos on their website).

Mandy and Doug are very proud to have played such a large part in the settling of the Brisbane and Maleny areas. They continue to provide local, ethical produce and service with a smile. Raw Chocolate Banana Mousse Cake

T

his is absolutely positively one of the easiest and yummiest desserts of all. And considering how healthy it is and how good it tastes you will be amazed at how easy it is to convince people that healthy food can be positively indulging!

1 tsp vanilla extract 2 tsp raw honey 2 cacao wafers

Base: 1 cup soaked almonds (soak for 2 hours in water, then drain) ½ cup pitted dates 1 tbsp coconut oil 1/4 tsp Himalayan (or sea) salt

2. In a spring form round tin press the mix into the base f rmly and evenly.

Middle Layer: 4-5 bananas 4-5 tablespoons coconut oil ½ cup dessicated coconut 2 tsp vanilla essence or 1 vanilla pod, scraped Top Layer: 2 avocados 2 bananas ¼ tsp Himalayan (or sea) salt 3 tbsp raw cacao powder

Method: 1. Place all base ingredients into a food processor and blend until roughly ground.

3. Wipe out the blender and add all the ingredients for the middle layer.

Blend until smooth.

Tasty Spelt Home Grown Tomato Tart Ingredients: 1 & ½ cups mixed fresh home grown tomatoes ½ medium sized leek 3 free range egg yolks 1 ½ cups spelt f our ¼ cup fresh parmesan cheese, f nely grated ¼ cup cheddar cheese, f nely grated 85g goats cheese 1 tsp dried rosemary, stalks removed 1 tsp dried thyme, stalks removed 2 tbsp cold water 125g butter, chilled and cut up into small cubes Method: Pre heat oven to approximately 180°C. Grease a tin or dish for your tomato tart.

Add in the rosemary, mix through.

Add in the egg yolks and the water, kneading it into a smooth looking dough.

Wrap and chill in the fridge for around 20 minutes. Remove from fridge and roll it out between 2 sheets of baking paper to make a reasonably thin large shape. Cut to shape to f t your prepared tin, pressing edges into place around the pan. Layer the pastry with the leek, followed by the grated cheeses.

Break up the goat’s cheese and place in segments around the tart.

Slice all the tomatoes to a similar thickness and arrange on the tart.

Trying not to have it too thick in any one place and a nice even coverage, sprinkle the thyme over the top.

Every Breath We Take...

n every breathe we take, we create – that is why for me in this moment I am very thankful for each and every one – have you ever stopped to feel yourself breathe?? It is a really interesting movement – we are even able to do this, without the knowing that we are choosing to do it – amazing, each one has the ability to be shallow or deep – fast or slow, every one counts. If you take your time, all of a sudden you will begin to feel your whole body, every part of you will feel the calm.

And in this, we have our mind that comes along for the ride, yes telling us all sorts of stories, pointing out so many facts, mmmmmm but if you go behind the voice and just breathe you will feel the creator – the peace, the love, the joy, the strong.

I find just by breathing, bringing myself back to slow, clear, deep breaths

I find many answers – this is a beautiful space that to most of us is free, a time to express to our own being; what we are and a time of healing. ilent, meditation and healing are not words usually associated with the media or radio personalities for that matter but ABC radio host, MaryLou Stephens is an exception and her message is inspiring many seekers and non-seekers around Australia. Her debut book, ‘Sex, Drugs and Meditation’ has been released by Pan MacMillan and is a compelling memoir of her transformational life story. This month I had goose bumps talking to Mary-Lou through parts of the interview… which I have no words for… maybe I should go on the next silent retreat with Mary-Lou. Now some may ask, “How can you sit

and mediate for ten days and not talk to anyone?” Mary-Lou says, “It’s a relief!’ which is a surprise given she’s been in the spot light most of her life as a singer/song writer and on radio expressing herself, sometimes in quite an outspoken way.

So it was only a matter of time before Mary-Lou shared her retreat experiences and ‘warts and all’ life story, although she says it took some time for the book to manifest. Interestingly, her first attempt at book writing was about seven years ago and was a bit like a Bridget Jones diary and quite flippant. “I was keeping things at a distance. It wasn’t until I gave a draft to an agent that they said to me you really

have to get honest. For this book to work, you have to get honest. So I completely freaked out and went to write a novel instead,” she laughs. Although her own personal experiences of healing kept calling her back to write her memoir and writing the book became healing in itself.

“I have been a meditator for ten years and it has taken that long to have love and compassion to share my own story, my own drama and to get to the point where I think this is a great story, a story of personal transformation, so I decidedlet’s tell it!”

gift of silence! the negative self talk that we have, so the book is about coming out of that misery and negativity. She believes change is possible and we can find a way out! “That ability that meditation gives you to observe and not buy into the old patterns is liberating.” But like anything, that is a ‘practise’ and we are all a ‘work in progress’. She reflects, “Keep on living your life as it is and it’s great to have hopes and dreams. But being here and now is where the power is.”

She has also ‘grown’ from her book publishing experience. Once the book was picked up by a publisher Mary-Lou says she was excited and terrified all at

the same time. Her first thought was ‘what will people think?’ as she has let down her barriers and been vulnerable in sharing some painful experiences in her life. But she has found a place of peace with it all, “They will think what they want and that’s none of my business. I’ve got nothing to hide now I have written this book. I felt so much of my life feeling shamed and wrong and I feel like I’m coming out of that. For the people that judge me they can and it’s got nothing to do with me.”

She admits it was challenging to receive the first round of edits on her book from the publisher. She got angry and felt criticised and then was surprised by her reactions. “I can’t believe I’ve done all this work on myself and I’m still not perfect! I was doing the edits and I was sobbing my eyes out, it was very cathartic, I wasn’t expecting after all I’d been through to get to the editing process and find there is still more ‘stuff ’”. But she says when she has a big reaction like that she can observe it really quickly now.

That is the gift of meditation. She watches herself get out of control on occasion and observes it and it changes. Afterwards, she looked at the edits and took on most of what they suggested and decided to keep her original title for the book.

Mary-Lou says even though she has let go of so much and healed so much, there are always more things to discover and learn about yourself and, life still goes on…

She mentions the old spiritual quote, “Before enlightenment chop wood and carry water and after enlightenment chop wood and carry water.” While she’s not saying she’s ‘enlightened’ she does see that it’s about becoming free and lighter.

“I’ve always done relationships from fear, resentment, jealousy and ownership. I let go of that and then found the first real relationship of my life.” She explains while her husband practices a different style of meditation they have a lot to share about their profound experiences and he has been supportive of her meditation retreats and writing journey.

She loves her quiet book writing time and being with hubby, her niece and the dog

but she also loves the adventure of being in the public eye and expressing her joy and truth.

“It suits us to feel powerless when we are not. We all create our own misery, we may think other people are being horrible to us but it’s how we react to them. Meditation has helped me realise that and be free of it. And no one belongs to me and so that means I’m free, I’m not a victim.”

Don’t be in a hurry, relax and enjoy the process!

If you are writing memoirs make it real and personal (but you can do this even if you are writing a fantasy book.

Then it becomes an emotional journey).

Join or create a writing group! The f rst draft is just for you. And get feedback from the group. It’s great to have that personal feedback.

Enjoy the journey, it may be lonely but it’s incredibly satisfying. I did ten drafts of my novel that would never see the light of day. I took six months leave without pay to write and it was worth it.

When you are writing you need a lot of space and time to be on your own and also f nd people to connect with who understand this.

hen I hear people say “I am not creative”, it feels like they are insulting themselves.

They are already living such limitations and to keep affirming that they are not creative, in fact is quite demeaning towards self. From observing people I work with, each one who ‘believes’ they are not creative has huge health issues.

There is a stuckness, stagnancy and lack of worth in many who keep telling themselves the same limiting lie.

Every thought is creativity in action.

Simply, from the moment we wake up and choose our clothing for the day, decide on the activities we are going to complete, cook a meal, write an email, arrange furniture, tidy up around the house…we are being creative.

You are CREATING your world!

Stop demeaning yourselves and embrace that life is creativity in action. This then leads to the opportunity to heal by taking self-responsibility for your life.

Put simply, if your house is a disaster, then you put it in order, which allows

you to feel better. Healing has happened.

Quietly sitting with an intention to create a bracelet, was a moment where I was invited into my inner world. Getting lost in the act of creating, I was in actual fact moving past the ‘logical mind’ and settling into the intuitive, unlimited part of me, where the clarity for something I was working through, was able to come to the surface easily and show me the way. That was a profound moment of healing for me.

Existing as we do is a supreme act of creativity. We have been birthed through the universe, in a most powerful and graceful act of creation, to live on this earth. Every moment in our life, we have the opportunity to create, choose, change and commit to the next moment.

We are the creators of our lives in all breaths, all thoughts and all actions.

Healing for me is the embrace of awareness. Once we have awareness around anything, we then can move towards a greater understanding and then choose to release what no longer

serves, or allow it to make us stronger.

Creativity is an important key on the road to healing. So many people are blocked, have no outlet, and their lives reflect the same.

When you view your life, be honest.

If it isn’t what you want, then change it!!! CREATE something different, do something different, think differently, act differently. Once you begin to act on this, your world undergoes a deep healing, which radiates to others. Only one small change, one new creation in your way of being, something as simple as dropping the words ‘might’, ‘should’ and ‘try’, will in effect transform so much in your life. This is expansion, growth and TRUE HEALING. Live your life as the powerful creator that you are, and feel the benefits of radiance, vitality and wellness permeate every aspect of your world.

Originally it was used as a tool to be conscious of everything in your life and taught to people knowing they are a conscious cocreator and can be, do, have their heart’s desires. This phenomenon explained the science behind creation, the world as one with no separation or dualities.

So how is this related to healing?

Healing is from the Latin word SACRUM, meaning untouchable or holy.

Holy was a sign of respect and intimately connected to divinity of all. The word HOLY stems from the 11th Century

German word HILYNEAIS meaning, Health, Happiness, Wholeness. To heal means to make whole and complete like we were originally created. This knowledge is linked to the quantum physics of life and is a philosophy which states the inherent nature of reality. This quantum mechanics applies the laws of physics to the spiritual concepts and integrates the physical and metaphysical as one. It was Plato, a mathematician who shared “There is a difference between HEAL & CURE. To ‘heal’ is to make whole; the entire mind/body/spirit. To ‘cure’ is to eliminate or relieve immediate distress. Unless one changes the ways/ thoughts that cause pain, it will repeat in the same area or another area.” So each of us is holy as we all have a sacrum bone.

So what is Medical Intuition? And how can it open up your creativity?

The body will always share the truth of what is happening in your life and share how it wants to become healthy,

whole and happy again. There is specific mathematics to creation which are aligned with the body and once you become aware of these you can create anything in your life. You will eliminate suffering, open up to new perspectives and live a happy, healthy life which is free from limitations. The intuitive is spontaneous insight where you are able to project your desires and manifest your outcomes. You design your destiny as you are able to see and know the nature of reality and creation attract everything in your life that allows you to see yourself as a whole, as once created. The key to healing is knowing you are the author to your life, your story becomes your biology and if you don’t know your story, your body will tell you exactly what is happening.

o you ever get those days when you wake up, you’re grateful to be alive and you have a hundred great ideas come to you instantly?

When you feel on top of the world and creativity seems to be everywhere? How fun are those days, and what would it be like if every day were like that?

I’ve always been very creative from a young age; I have one of those minds that is always racing and filled with ideas. 4. Don’t Judge Yourself! Before you start going into the mind chatter of ‘Have I made the right choice? Am I doing this in the right order? What if this is wrong?” Let me ask you this, what if no choice you ever made was wrong? If you didn’t judge yourself as right or wrong, would you be?

Or is right and wrong just a point of view?

5. Contribution. Ask, “What contribution can I be and receive?”

Being creative is about looking for the possibilities in life instead of attempting to fix the problems. If you ask, “If I choose this, what will my life be like in five years?” then you can receive the energetic awareness of what choosing that possibility will create in your life.

What would you like to create your life as? If you could create anything, what would it be like, feel like, smell like and taste like? Get that energy and whenever something matches that energy, go for it! When you do what you love everything in the universe conspires to support you in your choice.

Choice is really the source for creation in every area of your life. What would you like to create?

Creative Bliss with

Music and Healing

A

s a musician I find singing and playing music alone or with others awakens a sense of blissful heart connection and vibrant energy. When I sing with complete trust and openness my heart pops and I feel ‘at one’ with the music and everyone present. Any sense of separation dissolves effortlessly as the attending group achieves harmony.

My deeper feelings are given wings to fly as my throat and heart open.

Creative expression is at its height and this is both healing and energising.

Soraya as an individual ceases to exist and I feel at one with those participating.

When my beloved then begins to play the celestial tones of the flute I reach an elevated state of wonder. The flute is like a conduit that when breath and pure intent flow through it, like a singing voice it becomes a channel through which the divine play may enter.

The barrier to entering these

wonderful states of oneness when sharing either music or as a facilitator with a group in my experience has been my ego. Initially I was very nervous about performing in front of others, worried I would fail, not be good enough, miss my cue, and let Terry or the participating audience down. These ego-based worrying and self sabotaging thoughts and feelings certainly did not assist me to let go and let love flow. Instead they created a sense of unpleasant anxiety, lack and lowered energy.

I now realise the easiest way to achieve a state of creative blissful expression musically or otherwise is to get out of my own way. Knowing we are all equal and the same in our desire for connection is a relief.

Understanding and then KNOWING that ‘all is perfect and our only requirement is that we give 100% to each given moment of life’ changes everything.

To dissolve the ego and become

one with the “music/life/whatever” in universal participation seems to me to be the key to happiness. There is no resistance to the river of life.

Acceptance, joy and contentment is effortless. In this state of creative expression without resistance our energy body is in free flow and we are effortlessly healthy, vibrant and loving.

My heart is filled with absolute gratitude that I have discovered my Soul Purpose in embracing presence and living love through the mediumship of music, facilitating and sharing from the heart.

As Terry and I now prepare to head to Europe Mid-May for 3½ months of workshops, music concerts and meditation evenings on our 2013 ‘Peaceful Hearts Tour’ we are excited.

daptability, innovation and creative thinking are critical factors in all areas of human evolution and indeed are prized greatly by science and industry, but how does it relate to the healing arts that are very often steeped in ancient wisdom and tradition?

y story is becoming reasonably well known, I was in a wheelchair with MS and now run, dance and play with life including my family and running two or three businesses at any given time. How I did this is all about mindset, medicine and natural therapies and that is why I am so very passionate about getting the word out about the fact that with the right information we can heal anything at all.

For me it is mostly about mindset, balance and an integrated open minded approach, and meeting my business partner Wayne PR was such a wonderful moment as he was in the same place.

Wayne had started organising an Expo, a healing Expo and needed help and someone who understood marketing and so collaboration was in the works and is now working really well.

Our mission we decided was to create a foundation, that promoted our vision and allow the average person who

may not have looked deeply at a more natural and yet integrated approach to healing themselves. We want to become known for having doctors and natural therapists, and those passionate about living a healthier and more natural life that helps to maintain the health of our home planet as well on our stage and exhibiting.

And so the You Can Heal Yourself Foundation has become a reality, and our Health Lifestyle Expo is in its third year and becoming more and more successful every year. We are keeping our promises to ourselves to involve medical doctors who are open to a more natural approach when applicable. We have amazing speakers, and wonderful local, national and now international exhibitors. Healing is a Choice

ealing is a choice, a decision you make, to begin discovering, loving and valuing yourself. The process involves letting go of heavy, limiting, painful thoughts, patterns, emotions and energies that don’t serve you and allowing yourself to experience wellness, softness and love.

Healing is a lifestyle, which requires a daily practice. It encompasses every aspect of your life, from setting your intention for the day, to your ability to tune into your body, receive messages from it, release limiting patterns, communicate with the Divine, eat healthy food, exercising effectively, connect to others with an open heart, enjoy your work, enjoying feelings of abundance, having fun, being creative and making a difference to others and the world!

Albert Einstein said, ‘The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift.’ This is so true and I believe that it is our opportunity to re-claim the gift by learning to tune into our bodies.

If you are experiencing stress,

overwhelmed, ailments in your body, exhaustion, depression, anger and lack of clarity then your body is trying to communicate with you and gain your attention. It desires for you to start treating it in a more loving manner and listening to the messages it is sending you.

Below is a simple exercise you can do to start receiving messages from your body and healing yourself.

Action 1. Find a comfortable place to sit or lie down.

2. Take a few deep breaths in and out and relax your body 3. Focus on an area in your body that feels blocked or where you have pain 4. Place your hands on that area, if possible 5. Ask your body, ‘Is there a message you want to give me?’ This message may come in the form of thoughts, words, images, insights, feelings, memories, etc.

6. Take a few deep breaths as you allow any messages to come to the surface, without judgment 7. Say: ‘I call on my Divine Healing Intelligence to help release all pain,

blockages and density from this area.’

Allow yourself to watch and feel, as dense energy leaves your body.

8. Say: ‘I call on my Divine Healing Intelligence to infuse this area with a green ray of light. I ask that all the immune mechanisms of my body be activated and that my body now return to a state of perfect balance and health.’

9. Imagine a green light moving through your whole body and repairing it. Repeat the word CLEAR to release any pain or density.

10. When you feel lighter, gently bring your awareness back to usual and open your eyes, knowing that you have activated your own Divine Healing Intelligence.

Creativity through Relaxation

orn as creative beings, we interweave forms of creativity into our everyday lives whether we are aware of it or not.

Many of us believe that we are either born with or without creative talents depending on whether we have chosen a career path as a painter, writer or musician.

In actuality, everyday tasks such as making a bed, cup of tea or hanging out the washing, are all open to interpretation depending on the expression of one’s individual nature.

To some, these events are viewed merely as chores that are mundanely

performed day in day out, to help get from A to B so to speak.

It doesn’t matter “what” it is you are doing, the creativity lies in “how” you do what you are doing.

The common factor interwoven through all creative tasks is the ability to be able to relax the body and mind while performing those tasks.

It doesn’t matter whether you are doing the dishes or composing a piece of music, if you are in a relaxed state then you become present, in turn allowing a natural flow of creative energy to effortlessly move throughout your body.

Often we become so caught up in life that we continually have to remind ourselves to “relax” in order to enjoy life.

ourteen years ago, Sydney-born Natalie Southgate was living in London and running a recruitment agency. She was also studying energy healing at the 200-year-old College of Psychic Studies. Her particular focus was the chakra system, an ancient Eastern system, which maintains that we each have seven main energy centres governing the inter-connection of body, mind and spirit. In addition to her studies, dance was also a big part of her life. She had learnt ballet, jazz and tap as a child, and while in London she also tried shamanic and improvisation dance.

The dance of the base chakra draws inspiration from tribal dancing and is linked to our issues of survival, our roots and grounding. The sacral chakra’s dance explores our emotions and sexuality and is very feminine. The dance of the solar plexus is like a warrior dance and is about connecting with our innate strength and authentic personal power. Dancing the heart chakra opens us up to unconditional love and compassion. The throat chakra is about self-expression and combines movement and sound in the form of a mantradance. o I guess the first question has to be, how can we do this?

Going back some 30 years ago, I personally had no idea! Never gave it a thought! At that stage in my life, I was focused mostly on ‘survival!’ Survival on a monetary level, relationship level and my body was more about ‘image.’ How much weight I ‘was carrying’ and figuring out how much I needed ‘to lose’ to ‘look good!!’

The wake-up call for me came when I realised that a relationship that meant a lot to me just wasn’t going to work out! Eventually I accepted this, I was diagnosed with Leukemia! I was totally devastated! I’d always been pretty healthy – except for some lower back ‘challenges’ which I’d dealt with.

Shortly after this I came across Louise Hays’ information regarding the metaphysical link to do with emotions, thoughts, beliefs etc. and illness. Next having managed ‘to get my head’ around the fact that I had ‘definitely chosen my parents’ and so on, the

Universe worked its magic and I found myself working in Sydney with Dr. John Harrison. That was the turning point – thank you John! ☺ My passion for exploring the metaphysical causes of disease, (using myself as a case study) continued down a path that eventually (having learnt much from many amazing teachers/seminars) led me to Noosa, Qld, where I set up a counselling practice called ‘Skills For Living For Life.’

Whilst still in Melbourne, where my spiritual journey began, my one main wish was to be able to channel energies.

This was granted and the program that I still use with clients came through from two very high sources. It allows clients to connect with their Higher Selves which then helps them lower their ‘defense systems’ – and thus become aware of how they are really feeling. And why!!

I have found that one of the greatest ‘blocks’ to people being able to work with their ‘selves’ is that they are unaware of how they feel. As we are able to open

up and feel safe to do this, we gain the ability to be able to communicate with our body – actually ask it how ‘it’s doing’ and hear the answer. At this point, we can commence – not only working with it – but our body can start to become our friend.

When we have an ailment, it’s the body’s way of telling us, that something is out of balance in some other part of our existence. In many cases, the answer can be so easy and literal. If we have a pain in the neck, we could ask ourselves – have I been saying to myself or others, “So and so is a pain in the neck?!!”

The body can be a wonderful friend – bringing messages to us and there are many ways that we can then use, to address any imbalance and that’s the next exciting journey!! How we can do this!!

Tuning into Wisdom

H

olistically speaking a person can be described as consisting of body, mind and spirit and each level is said to have its own built in wisdom and harmony. Meditation then is contacting our total being by tuning into these dimensions of our existence to access their wisdom. This is a worthwhile practice not just because it’s holistic but because it’s the pursuit of wisdom and harmony within the raw materials everyone has to work with.

The three dimensions we tune into have their own immediate wisdom and harmony, by simply becoming attuned to these facets of ourselves we can learn a great deal and be guided by the intelligence inherent at every level.

Body, heart and universal wisdom are unlocked through the power of a calm and focused mind during meditation training and mindfulness through-out the day.

The key to tuning in is focused

attention and an absence of conceptual engagement. The wisdom we are tuning into is non-conceptual and already existent, we do not create the intelligence or harmony during meditation we simply discover it and allow it.

We fine tune into our body’s energy by simply noticing it, bringing it into the light of awareness. Not by thinking but by directly experiencing it exactly as it presents itself and becoming sensitive to its movements. This wisdom is balance.

The heart also has its own way of understanding which can be tuned into and now thanks to organisations like Heart Math Institution and others we have scientific research showing the enormous power of a good heart to increase and improve health and vitality.

Tuning into our kind hearts is essential to meditation training and integral to a spiritual life; nothing disturbs us more than anger and resentment and nothing

compares to the bliss of an open heart.

This type of wisdom is love.

Finally contacting universal intelligence is tuning into the void and ultimately is the key to access all dimensions because it is their source.

The void could be called zero point; that experience in meditation of complete freedom and unlimited space. This space is our deepest nature, our centre point, but it’s not just vacant or empty like normal space because inner space is also imbued with intelligence just like the other dimensions, this wisdom is intuition.

After learning to tune into the body, heart and intuition separately a meditator can expand awareness to encompass all three simultaneously.

e sometimes have extraordinary experiences that demonstrate to us that the world is not what it seems from the everyday perspective.

This happened to me back in 1992 and it was a real event shown to me in everyday terms that changed my thinking on what’s possible.

What’s the story? Years back I had a beautiful friend who was a very involved activist for Australian indigenous

people and for the American Indian people as well. She had spent much time in the recent ten years of her life working bringing native Americans and Aboriginal people together in the 1980s and 1990s.

Sometime in the late 1980s she found she had cancer and dealt with it using the Gerson approach. She was successful the first time around but the second time when cancer appeared again, she had a much harder time.

In August/September 1992, my partner Susie and I took a trip to the USA for six weeks to visit the western states including California, Arizona and Utah. It was an amazing experience for both of us – firstly because we visited the Grand Canyon for the first time and the breathtaking experience you have at the first encounter of the size and scope of the place will never leave me. The other was spending time in Sedona, Arizona, quite a new-agey sort of town with all

manner of healers and interesting shops and landscapes.

My friend’s name was Julia Sauterel and she was in the late stages of her life when Susie and I left for the USA. She had seven days a week care and was slowly preparing to leave this planet and move on. Her faith in her spiritual beliefs and experiences was so strong that she was okay with it all.

We left to head off to the US after saying my good-byes to Julia. We arrived in the US and eventually when arriving in Arizona, we met up with another friend in Sedona town. After travelling around for five weeks we returned and he informed us that Julia had died in the days before. This was our last week in the US and we spent it in a friendly town called Flagstaff nearby and had organised to catch a bus back to LA to fly out. The car we hired had to be returned to a car hire office in Phoenix.

With Julia on my mind I set off to return the car. It was a 200 mile (320km) trip. In the US you can do 100 miles/hour on the freeways so I was cruising along at 100mph and after leaving Falgstaff for about 10 to 15 minutes suddenly there was Julia in the car with me.

I know it sounds strange but while she wasn’t physically there in terms of

seeing her, but the presence of her was so strong it was as if she was sitting right next to me. We began a conversation.

You need to understand that most of conversation happened inside my head so it was like a telepathic conversation.

She told me that everything was just fine for her and she’d met the elders who took care of her and explained what to do next and showed her quickly around the galaxy (Yes!). Then she came back to check on us, on the planet.

She told me that the material rules we accept here on earth just do not apply where she was now. She also told me the rules don’t apply anywhere if you don’t want or need them. I was quite puzzled about this at the time so she said, I will demonstrate how that is.

Wouldn’t tell me how at the time. She just said – you will see how.

I was probably about half way to Phoenix by then and the drive continued on after Julia left me in the car alone to drive on and admire the landscape and examine in my head all that had just happened. More was to come! I arrived in Phoenix about an hour later and headed for the car return place which was just off the freeway in the centre. When you return a car it has to have a full tank. I filled up in Flagstaff and was going to top

But one of the things I began to notice as the car headed back was that the fuel gauge was not going down. We had been driving this car for weeks – no problems with the fuel gauge.

Now it wasn’t behaving and I thought – ‘Oh damn I will have to let them know when I get in and top it up’. I arrived at the hire place, came into the office and said, yes here’s the keys and it seems to be a full tank. I checked it out and the tank was still full after a 200 mile (320km) journey! I used no petrol. This was Julia’s message to me. I was totally blown away, as they say, and of course couldn’t tell the car hire guy that my dead friend had just kept the tank full for me.

I learnt then that the material rules don’t apply if you don’t want.

Of course, I can’t apply that when I try, as I guess I haven’t still turned the corner but sometimes I see it and know it. Julia taught me something that will never leave me and I look forward to catching up with her sometime in the future – who knows when.

Vet Care with a Natural Difference

cupuncture – the magic of needles!

The best way I can describe to you what acupuncture does is to draw you a simile: Imagine you have a radio that can tune into 12 Radio stations all at the same time. Ill health may mean that one or two stations are tuned in and the rest are all out of tune.

In health, mostly all the channels are tuned in. Acupuncture tweaks the body so that it “tunes” in the channels to create balance. e.g.: www.maplestreetvet.com. au/index_files/Page681.htm to see a real patient.

When I treat humans it is easy to ask “Where is the pain now?” and I can continue to hunt down the pain. This is where the challenge lies in animals – and I have developed two mechanisms to understand where their problems might be. I am able to feel their pain, for example the pain is in the left knee joint, under the knee cap. That is where I feel the pain in me; this information allows me to know where to place the needles to relieve the pain in the pet.

Sometimes I don’t get that feeling (usually when it is clearly obvious where the problem lies) and I can search the area using a laser whilst at the same time monitoring my own pulse. When an affected area is found my pulse rebounds – this phenomenon is known as Nogier’s pulse and is used extensively in a style of acupuncture used by German doctors – controlled acupuncture.

Herbs – nature’s cures Let’s continue to use the simile of the radio and the twelve stations in tune, the radio is playing and all twelve stations are in tune but the radio is very quiet, you can barely hear the sound… the herbs are like a volume control, they turn up the energy. Herbs are used to build substances like energy and blood.

Diet – nature’s battery Continuing with the simile principle, diet is the battery to the radio. The body needs a power source and diet is that source, it supplies ALL the energy and base substances for everything that the body requires.

Creative B Space That

laise Pascal was a clever man. He was a mathematician, physicist, inventor, writer and philosopher. He also worked out the solution to all our problems. Incredible when you discover he lived almost four hundred years ago. This Renaissance man from the seventeenth century had the answer to every single thing that plagues us today. And what is that answer?

“All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone.”

Some call it meditation, others call it contemplation, but the ability to spend time with ourselves in silence is something that is very rare these days. There are so many distractions.

My favourite Australian philosopher Michael Luenig reached much the same conclusion. In the Curly Pyjama Letters Mr Curly says to his friend Vasco: “It is worth doing nothing and it is worth having a rest. In spite of all the difficulty it may cause, you MUST rest Vasco – otherwise you will become RESTLESS!” And there you have it. Two great minds, centuries apart, coming to the same conclusion in their own way. Peace, quiet and rest are necessary. Otherwise we become anxious, restless, dissatisfied and stressed. We become exhausted, drained, depleted and sick.

For myself, meditation is the solution I choose. Sitting quietly in a room alone has

unexpectedly been the source of my greatest creativity and my greatest healing. The mind is an amazing thing when left to its own devices, without the constant overstimulation that bombards us every day. When my mind stills from the relentless inane everyday chatter, when it stops milling over the nuance of every interaction and action of my past, when it ceases worrying about possible future events that may never happen, then the glory of its creativity can blossom. It arises from a space that is usually crowded out by the noise and busyness of the world outside my quiet room.

When I give my mind the space and time to just be, it rewards me with treasures from the deep.

Sitting quietly in a room alone has also given me a range of healing. The physical benefits of meditation are well documented; lower blood pressure, less pain and it is the only thing that has been proved to help with auto-immune diseases. Also the emotional healing I’ve gained from meditation has changed my life, my work and my relationships.

We simply must rest, sit quietly in a room alone, to be, to create and to heal.
