Grain-free Herb Bread RECIPE HELEN MARSHALL

How can I make this easier’ is one of my mantras, but it didn’t always used to be like that. Trying to be ‘healthy’ used to feel like such hard work! All of that sourcing real food – local, in-season and spray-free; making fermented food and having it explode in the wardrobe; cooking from scratch and praying the kids would eat it. I ditched grains, seed oils and sugar all in a desperate attempt to heal my long list of chronic digestive, mental and physical symptoms caused from a gut that was out of whack big time. How I longed for the convenience of a slice of toast or to have that takeaway fun vibe with a family pizza night. So, I created a range of grain free ‘Primal Alternatives’ to the foods we can’t live without and started sharing them with my local community. The feedback I got was these nourishing, home-made products really helped my customers stay on track so they could get the

results they wanted for their health. I wanted to help more people, but the idea of a factory just didn’t light me up. So I licensed my successful home business so that other people with a passion for clean living could create a business that suited their lifestyle and help others in their community get healthy too! Ingredients: 40g sesame seeds (or linseeds) 10g mixed fresh herbs finely chopped (e.g. parsley, chives, sage, thyme, rosemary) 120g zucchini 150g blanched almond meal 120g tapioca flour 4 eggs ½ tsp salt ½ tsp bicarb soda 1 tsp apple cider vinegar 1 tsp sesame seeds (additional) 1 tsp linseeds

Method: 1. Preheat oven to 180°C. Line small loaf tin (20cm x 10cm) with baking paper. 2. Place sesame seeds in your food processor and process until you produce a fine flour. 3. Add zucchini to your food processor and chop until fine, or grate by hand. 4. Return ground sesame seeds to bowl and add all remaining ingredients. 5. Mix until just combined. 6. Pour into lined tin. Tap tin on the counter 3-4 times to remove any air bubbles. 7. Sprinkle top with additional sesame seeds and linseeds. 8. Bake for 35-45 minutes or until an inserted skewer comes out clean. 9. Cool on rack and store refrigerated in an airtight container. www.primalalternative.com

How to

get the best

out of your colonic

ith the spring detox season upon us, many people are missing some of the most important steps to ensure the best cleanse possible. So when you’re combining your next juice or water fast with a series of colonics, here’s how to get the most out of your cleanse. PERFECT MATCH, DEXTER! For many people, having their first colonic is quite a daunting and vulnerable experience, so it’s important to find a therapist that makes you feel as safe and relaxed as possible. Good word of mouth usually goes a long way, so before booking, ask your friend network for recommendations. If a friend had a positive experience then it’s more likely you will too. Also, call around and ‘interview’ a few therapists. Ask them if they are fully certified or just trained on-the-job – the last thing you want is to end up at a dodgy operator! Enquire about how much experience

they have. And ask what program they recommend to help you achieve your health goals. A good therapist should be happy to answer all your questions and leave you feeling confident that you’ve made the best decision. PRE-SOAK YOUR INSIDES I’d say 95% of my clients come to me chronically dehydrated. If you want to have a great colonic, you’ll really benefit from drinking a lot of water in preparation. Walking in unprepared will still be fine but for the best results, you really want to load up on water the day before. When our colon is working properly we’ve ideally got a 24-hour transit time, so it’s yesterday’s water that will impact today’s treatment. When cleansing, I like to aim for up to 1 litre of water for every 22kg of body weight. THE ‘SOFTER’ THE BETTER This is the one that most people struggle with, because our emotional attachment with food means we often eat for taste instead of nutrition. To get

the best impact from a colon cleanse, you’ll definitely evacuate more waste if you eat a soft diet leading up to your treatment. By ‘soft’ foods I mean pretty much only fruit, veggies and legumes! Look to things like: soups, smoothies, lightly cooked veggies, mild curries and cooked oats. Then elimination will be more effective and you can achieve deeper results quicker. TIME OUT Just because you can jam a detox into your busy schedule, it doesn’t mean it’s best for you! If you’re fasting or on a juice detox, schedule appointments when you have the time to take it easy afterwards, to focus on your breathwork and let your body rest and relax. Balance is the key – your body will heal and regenerate best when you give it the right conditions to do so. any people are not aware that the food or water they drink can affect the way they feel. You see, food and water has a chemical effect on us and all chemicals affect us differently. Everything we consume has a pH level. While everything is about balance, eating processed acidic food has a negative effect on our bodies, lowering our vibrations and the way we feel. The law of attraction works whether we believe in it or not, we attract what we are. So when you eat those processed acidic fast food burgers, not only do they lack nutrition, they also lower our vibration and the way we feel, which will also attract more experiences of similar vibration and the spiral continues. What you are feeling and experiencing right now is a direct reflection of what you’ve been thinking, eating and drinking. Our body is roughly around 70% water, but did you know that our cells

are about 90% water as well, so really, we are water. There’s a saying, “water created us so it can travel”. Think of water as a living being that lives in you and is conscious, it’s like a hard disk that records everything that happens around it, it picks up the energy of its environment, records it and changes its structure accordingly. So that means there are no two water drops that are the same anywhere. Since we are made of this intelligent water, that means everything we think, feel and consume, changes the structure of our water. When we are born, our water is pure, so are our thoughts and feelings, so we resonate love and receive it in return. How do we get to that love and purity again? How can we raise our vibrations to the level of love? While there are many ways to do that, here’s one of the simplest ways to make a positive change in your life. Think about the water you consume

every day, the Source, the pH, what’s in it, its taste, its energy. How do you feel drinking that water? Does it actually make you feel good, every time you drink it? Remember, everything has a frequency. Is the water you are drinking raising your frequency or is it lowering it? As we now know, processed acidic water lowers our frequency and the way we feel. You may say that you filter or distill your water, this may remove some of the chemicals but you can never remove the frequency of those tox-sins and they will still have the same effect, just as if they were still in there, similar to the way homeopathy works. A

re you stressed? Tired? Wired? Overwhelmed? Are you confused about your health? In today’s modern world, most of us lead a busy life. What we see frequently in the clinic is clients without a diagnosed condition, but rather explaining that they are feeling depleted, stressed, exhausted, unmotivated and physically out of balance. Being busy has become the norm. Even when you are productive and love what you do, you can still experience the same surge of hormones that people feel when they are stressed and overworked. The reason is, your body needs to keep you focused and alert. The hormones that create this in your body are cortisol and adrenaline. Whether you are stressed or busy, these processes can use the same hormones and nutrients. Thus it is important if you are busy and stressed or happily productive, to take care of yourself. Take time to breathe. This is a very simple breathing technique that I

frequently suggest in clinic. Close your eyes, put one hand on your chest near your heart. Consciously connect with your heart. Take a slow, quiet, deep breath in through the nose, and then exhale making a whoosh sound through the mouth. Do this 10 times. Focus on the sensation of the air entering the nose and leaving the mouth. Breathing in this manner helps to regulate the fight or flight hormones. Explore essential oils. All of our senses have the ability to affect the way we feel. A nice blend of oils to use in a spritzer or diffuser to calm and lift the mood is: lavender, frankincense, peppermint and orange. Get creative with herbs in the kitchen. Herbs have the ability to make any dish taste amazing. And plus they have the added medicinal benefits. I usually suggest picking a different herb bunch each week from the grocer or markets and try consuming them daily. A simple one to begin with is parsley. In naturopathic medicine, parsley is used to cleanse and nourish.

Eat a colourful diet. By focusing on natural colour on your plate, this helps to remove the need to count the grams of nutrients on your plate. This is an easy tactic to use daily to gauge your nutrient intake. Brown tones for protein (meats, legumes, nuts and seeds), colourful veggies and some antioxidant loaded fruit. Create a bedtime ritual. Taking the time to wind down at night is really important for sleep quality. Consider choosing some nurturing herbal tea blends, turning off any bright lights, reducing TV time and instead read a book or colouring in (yes, adults can colour in too). All of these will help to regulate your stress hormones which help your natural energy levels the next day. love mean to you?

hen people say that they love you, have you ever wondered what does that mean exactly? Love in this reality has millions of points of view. People love you if you align and agree with their point of view or they will love you if you do this or that for them. If you have different points of view to them, then they don’t like or love you. People say they have unconditional love for you, until you peeve them off and then it’s conditional. How many definitions are there for the word love? How many do you personally have? People spend their life trying to prove that they love others, trying to get people to prove that they love them, because that proves that they have value. Do people really see you? Do you see you? If you can’t see you how do you expect others to see you?

How many limitations do you impose on you in the name of love? In order to be in love, people only allow themselves to have decisions that match the other persons’ decisions. People refuse to have the choices that would give them total awareness. Loving someone is good only for this moment. Being in love is cutting off all your awareness so you can be with them. What decisions have you made, that create falling in love? What choices are you refusing, that would allow you to be totally loving and loved? Do you have a belief that there is such a thing as being in love? A relationship should be something that expands your life and has a sense of lightness and joy, possibility, choice, question and contribution. That’s what you want in a relationship, not this intensity of proving. People make love heavy and

significant. People look at love as though if you love someone, you are responsible for their happiness and their survival. It destroys you in favour of the value of another. I watch people choose again and again, the person that won’t work for them. They have this point of view that “maybe if I love them enough, they will become what I know they can be.” The thing is, we all have this ability to see the real being. But instead of looking at the real being and going, “OK, they are never going to choose more,” we go, “Oh… I love them totally.” It’s okay to love them, but you must look at all of them too. The good, bad and ugly, with no points of view, as consciousness includes everything without judgment. People who love you do not criticise you. You are so stupid. In fact, you are not loveable and no one wants you.” Imagine saying that to your best friend, children or parents? You wouldn’t. So why do it to yourself?! The most important loving relationship you will have in all of your life is with yourself. And yet people say comments like the above and worse to themselves. Why? Is it low self-esteem? Is it listening to what people have told you over the years? From this moment on, don’t let this define you. What if you made the decision to date you, marry you and treat yourself like you would your own best friend, lover and child? Start with what you eat and drink. Ensure to have at least five meals or snacks a day that are colourful, healthy, nutritious and of course delicious. Plan your meals and prepare them where you are so excited to have these. You probably do this for your children already but do it for you first. Where will you eat? Who will you eat with? Will it be a picnic? A restaurant? What ambience will you have? And as for hydration, your body is 95% water and

needs water to keep healthy and flush out toxins. Maybe flavour your water with fruit or add herbal teas to make it refreshing. Your body will love this and you and reward you with being healthy. This is the core foundation and basics to a loving relationship. Okay, so the basics have been covered. Now CELEBRATE YOU! Each and every day, have the most loving relationship with yourself where you celebrate each and every day: what you did, did not do and who you are. My favourite thing to say is “I DID THAT” with an attitude of joy. No matter if it was a good or bad thing it does not matter, because if you created one thing you can create something else. When you celebrate you, your body will thank you so much. When you celebrate you, others will want to celebrate with you. To lock this in to your mind and body, what if you set up a ritual. self-love isn’t!

S

o much is written around self-love. I would like to share with you what it is not, and my reason for sharing this is that in my work helping women to step into their powerful self ‘through their own power’, they have no idea as to what is the negative behaviour and the one key step which unlocks the door to the journey of true self-love. So let’s look at some behaviour such as being a martyr (selfless behaviour); oh boy, I actually had a master’s degree in this one. Let’s take a closer look at the behaviour pattern of a martyr. They try to fix and rescue everyone else, taking on other’s stuff and doing it for them, taking responsibility for other’s behaviour and actions, sacrificing their own needs and pleasures for others and putting others before themselves. Then there is the shadow side of martyr behaviour (selfish behaviour). Selfish/helpless behaviour is often

due to a need for self-protection or preservation, from fear of failing, being abandoned, hurt, rejected or neglected, resulting in disconnectedness. This shadow behaviour also involves another person usually to engage (usually someone that takes all the time), as both sides of this behaviour need the other to exist. Neither side are existing in or coming from a ‘place of self-love’. There is of course many other behaviours which could go in here but for this article, I am just sticking to these two. I love seeing the expressions on my clients’ faces when we go through this – it’s like a light bulb has been switched on and so many then say to me, “Sandra, self-love is not really the fluffy bunny slippers and the once-a-month massage.” You see, we often carry the following emotions: guilt, shame, regret, worthlessness, helplessness,

self-loathing, apathy and numbness due to the following things which have happened in our lives: stagnation, abandonment, physical abuse, emotional abuse, rape, self-harm, and dysfunctional relationships, with parents, siblings and co-workers. Do you want to know what the key is to truly unlock the door and reclaim your self-love? FORGIVENESS! Why should you forgive? Why even try? Believe it or not, forgiveness is for you. It’s not for the other person. It’s one of the most self-centred and self-serving things you can do. But the greatest act of self-love you can do for yourself is to forgive yourself and others, as this no longer shackles you to the past. We are all here to learn the lesson of forgiveness. A

s I put pen to paper to write this article, I am checking in with myself knowing that I may be judged for what I write. How can I write from a place fearing judgment about my concept of love? I stop to tap into myself. I breathe and go within, feet grounded on the earth, still my mind and connect to my ‘home space’ (gut) and heart. I ask my highest self, “is expressing my passion for expanding my self-love and supporting others to do the same worth being judged for?” I hear a resounding, “yes”! I believe self-love comes most easily when we are at peace with ourselves, a place of self-acceptance and feeling comfortable with who we are, how we express ourselves and connect with our world. It feels easy being ourselves. However, many of us have made agreements with ourselves that hinder our full expression and with that, our

love for ourselves. When we don’t love ourselves, how can we fully express our love for others? Often as children we make these agreements, because someone has said something and we have agreed it is true. When I was a child, my family laughed at my voice. I agreed that I wasn’t a good singer and I chose to mouth the words to songs, or they would come out as a whisper. I let go of my joy of singing and with that, a part of my unique self that is intricately woven into the art of loving myself unconditionally. It was through exploring myself using creative expression verbally, physically and spiritually, that helped me let go of what anyone thought and connect back to loving myself enough to sing with gusto wherever I was. In fact, emotional expression is our strength, our own self-healing mechanism; our only means of personal freedom, self-

love, and the ultimate tool of creativity. It enables us to feel more deeply, connect more intuitively, be seen, heard and valued. In art therapy, the art, sound or movement is an inspiring way for you to explore loving the person you are. And a safe place for you to express, make sense of and free yourself from your innermost pain. We might draw out unwanted agreements onto paper or let expectations dissolve into the flow of paint. The wonderful thing about art mediums is that they can tolerate all emotions and what is expressed and created holds profound answers and much relief for the creator to free themselves emotionally, physically and spiritually. love and protection from within

W

henever and wherever I am I use this simple but powerful ancient sound HU (pronounced hue) to help spiritualise my consciousness. I also do this simple practice for around 20 minutes a day. Through this practice, I find spirit will guide me in the best way possible with everything I do. I was facing many new challenges, when I received an unexpected gift in the guise of a spiritual experience that would help me deal with them so I could understand and learn their true spiritual purpose. This incident happened while I was training my pup to walk alongside me on and off the leash. We were walking in a quiet cul-de-sac, when he took off. Despite my calling him, he just kept on running, until I called out “sit” and he finally did as he was told. Just at that moment around the corner came a pack of wild dogs and I knew they would reach the pup before I could. Immediately I shut my eyes and began singing this sound – HU. I did so not to interfere or change anything, but

to calm myself and let Spirit do what It does best. I trusted It would show me the way, no matter what might happen. By the grace of God a wave of love washed through and from me; followed by a dog yelping. While still singing HU, I opened my eyes and could actually see this force field of love around me and the pup. The leader of the pack hit this wave of love with such a force that he fell over backwards, the other dogs yelping and piling up behind him. The pack leader took one last look at me and took off howling, followed by

the others, running back the way they came. While this was happening, the pup sat there quietly watching. I picked him up and cuddled him, feeling so much gratitude and love for what had just taken place. I knew that a miracle had been a clear demonstration of the protection by my tuning into this higher power of love, using this simple spiritual tool – HU. I still marvel at the love and protection I receive from the simple practice of singing the HU, regardless whether it is in times of need or not. It reinforces my own inner knowing, opening the door wider to guidance by letting go and trusting Spirit for It knows what’s best always. HU is a spiritual sound, an ancient name for God. It can be sung by anyone, silently or aloud, in a nondirected way. You do not have to change your faith or belief, HU will simply enhance it and show you truth. lease take a moment and write down the top 10 things you love in your life. Just let the words flow and don’t think too deeply. Now look at your list and choose your number one biggest love. For many of us it will be our family or our relationship with our partner. How blessed are we to have these people in our life? Did you rate a mention on your list? How much do you love yourself? I do not mean in an ego driven manner, as we all know people who have tickets on themselves and are a little difficult to be around. Many of us think nothing of giving our love, energy and attention to our loved ones, our friends, family, clients and even people we don’t know well. Sadly however, we sometimes forget to love and nurture ourselves. Now let’s return to your list of 10 things you love in your life and consider how much time in each day do we spend devoted to the people we love or the activities that bring us joy? This can be a little confronting at first when we

realise that perhaps our daily schedule is a little out of kilter and we feel depleted at bed time, as we did not fill our day with love. When I meet with my clients, I ask them what is on their wish lists in life. What are the things they love to do on a daily basis and what are the long term things they would love to do… someday? It is quite empowering when you allow yourself the ability to dream and plan how to achieve your goals. If you are feeling a little fragmented and life is overwhelming, please allow yourself to make a cuppa or pour a glass of wine and press pause on your life for quiet reflection. You deserve to spend time creating and living the life you love, the life that brings you joy. If you love to spend time in nature, schedule it in – make it happen. If you have always wanted to go to Paris with your loved one or have a beach holiday with the family – make it happen. Too hard you think – it’s just

a dream. Let’s look at some practical tips of how to get there. Perhaps you buy your lunch and a coffee every day and spend $10-$15. Over a five-day working week, you have just spent $50$75. Over say 48 weeks of the year, this adds up to $2400-$3600 per annum. If you place these funds in a special holiday or dream account, you move a step closer. Perhaps only buy your lunch once a week as a treat or make your own healthy lunch. The emotional, harmonious impact of her words… used so precisely, and interlaced with such naked truth, can literally be felt, knocking lovingly at the human heart’s entrance. And for our dear ‘linear’ thinkers, Rikka also submits a 100% sciencebased explanation for the proof of love: quantum physics. “Quantum physics has already proven to us that ALL is energy”, she declares. “Science has shown that life (and therefore love), are the same energy. Science proves we are all ‘one’, in that everything we feel and see is actually inhabiting 99.9% space. It’s just that our illusory human consciousness believes otherwise. “So yes, I do call this love! Others will describe this as life force, or source, or the unified field. And, since we are all one… what if love wasn’t a ‘thing’, but that everything is actually made from love? And, since we’re one, are you actually made of love? Yes!! We’re already made of love! This realisation ends all illusory patterns. And so, we don’t need to search for love! We don’t need to wait for love! You no longer need other people to love you!” In the same way Rikka traverses science and spirituality, she has, incredibly, but not surprisingly, enmeshed western and eastern medicine modalities, to literally defy and banish a grim ‘eight weeks to live’ medical prognosis she was given… now over four years ago. Prior to this, Rikka’s past experiences included living in total judgment, feeling inadequate, not pretty or worthy enough, fearing imminent rejections, opting for jobs she didn’t love, repeating/reliving past traumas, etc. “My recurring negative and limiting beliefs, as they do, led me down a path of destruction. I was six figures in debt and felt there was no way out. I hit financial rock bottom… struggling at times even to buy toilet paper.” Then finally, and almost right on cue, “my deepest fear came true.” In midMay 2015, Rikka was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. Her cancer, however,

had some attitude; it ravaged her like a perfect storm. Tumours were diagnosed throughout her lungs, adrenals, large intestines, neck, spine and hip. There were seven brain tumours, including some the size of golf balls. The cancer had already started eating away at her C1 vertebrae and left hip. Her boyfriend thereafter duly deserted her, leaving her betrayed, deceived, abandoned and heartbroken. Rikka has openly shared her inspirational, moving recovery in various online videos, where we all can bear witness to her tears, shed spontaneously, from that reservoir of pure love. “I just knew so much more was possible for me. I knew I had to change these beliefs. I knew I had to change ‘the me’ that was keeping me from having the life I knew possible. I knew I couldn’t heal what I wasn’t willing to feel. So I had a process, which I call ‘Returning to Love.’ I’d go to my mirror, and look deep into my eyes. Then slowly, I’d say: ‘Oh, Sweetheart! How are you?’ I would listen. And I would allow the part of me that was in pain, to come out, to come forward, and process the fears, hurt and traumas.” Although Rikka declined having any MRIs and radiation treatment (and chemo wasn’t even offered) she points out that all healings (not just physical) can only start from the premise of love… and not any kind of ‘fight’ as such. “We can’t afford to just resist all the doctors because that’s also not the energy we

should be putting in; I’m grateful to eastern and western medicine… and I peacefully surrendered to kismet.” Today, Rikka remains cancer free. Her treatment also included herbs, nutrition therapies, and ‘thousands of prayers!’ Oh and by the way, Rikka now runs a hugely successful ‘sevenfigure’ company, and guides thousands of people worldwide towards achieving their dreams, goals and true desires. Rikka’s online courses offer a ‘deep dive’ into various topics pertinent to a multitude of individual circumstances – from working on all our abundance frequencies, to money mastery, self-love, and unlocking family programming, to name just a few. M

odalities encouraging selfempowerment or self-help are aiming to remove the blocks to the awareness of love’s presence. Frequency technologies support us by removing blocks we are not even aware we have. Life can be summed up simply: there are only ever two choices, we choose love or we choose fear. Once we remove the blocks to love and open a new perspective, we can begin to see what is real and what is unreal. Therein lies the peace we all have the deep desire to experience. All expressions of love are maximal. When miracles happen it is the love that inspires them and which creates the miraculous outcome. I have experienced such a miracle recently with a dear friend who has endured intense suffering through illness. She was left with no hope of survival from the doctors. To be witness to such an outcome is painful in itself and perhaps one of our grandest challenges is to continue to see our loved ones well during times of crisis

and suffering; to remind them of who they are, as the infinite mind. I am fortunate to know through experience that all expressions of love can reverse the physical laws we have learned to believe in. These expressions of love also bring love to both the giver and receiver. There is nothing more potent than love, but we require our mind to action love, as true miracles are thoughts. Thoughts can either represent the bodily level of experience, or the spiritual level of experience. When our thoughts represent the spiritual they inspire gratitude. When we strengthen our spirit within us and release our mind from the imprisonment of our illusions, by shifting our perspective, we begin to see observable effects. My dear soul sister during such intense suffering, had the support required to be able to begin the undoing of fear and choosing love, creating her own miracle. This acts as a catalyst, breaking up fallacious perception and reorganising it with the truth of love.

Once the mind is restored to correct perception, the effects can establish protection and one is enabled to heal. The form of how that healing happens is only an interlocking chain coming from within, the form may be allopathic medicine, natural medicine, energy medicine or frequency technologies. There are as many combinations for healing as there are people on the earth. The healing will always begin with correction of the false thinking by each of us within ourselves. Once we establish this correction within ourselves and remain disciplined to remind ourselves to function from inspired action, we can trust that the form of modality which arrives will co-operate with us to bring about the healing. What are we

normalising?

I

t is surely a complex world we live in. Did you see a recent Australian series on SBS called ‘The Hunting’? A story about what can go horribly wrong with ‘sexting’, it was a chilling reminder of what our teenagers are currently faced with in sex and relationships. It demands the viewer see things from every angle. Without doubt, an important reminder that what is ‘normalised’ in popular culture doesn’t make it healthy or okay. When I embarked on this journey of teaching tantra, I was confronted by male expectation and undercurrent of male privilege in the whole field. I had teachers contacting me to ‘get together’ – this was considered ‘normal’. But by then, in my mid- to late-40s, I’d made a powerful pact to be ‘clean’ when it came to sexuality. Starting out, I felt meek as a tantra teacher, like I didn’t belong to the club, like I didn’t live up to the image. I

felt under-confident as a female voice, because my message wasn’t really fitting in with the status quo of the time. Ten years on, it’s a different story. I have lived it; taught it and it’s deeply embedded. I’ve become convinced that there is so much distortion around sex in our culture, and sadly that distortion has become normalised. Some of it so subtle, that we don’t think to question it. And so much in the alternative field that can be misinterpreted, misconstrued in sexuality, in the name of ‘growth’. That’s why stories like ‘The Hunting’ courageously need to be told. It’s a strong voice and I celebrate that it makes us question what we are ‘normalising’ in our OWN relationships and consequently with our kids. The good news is, I am seeing good men step forward, adding their voice to this. There’s a new breed on the rise, I see them at our retreats, meet them every day. Men of heart, who want the best for women, for men and their children.

Seeing the calibre of men attending our retreats these last 10 years and witnessing the most intimate of moments and conversations, gives me enormous hope. When I see the light go on in a man, his heart melts for his beloved, as she opens up before his eyes, to see him soften in his heart and body and allow her in. It’s an awakening every couple deserves. I want to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. That’s why education about sex that is actually helpful, empowering and speaks of LOVE, not just sex, speaks of SENSITIVITY, not just sensation, is an antidote to what’s out there. And that’s just medicine for the soul of humanity. o you often find yourself seeking approval or validation from others in order to feel good inside? Ever notice you’re constantly apologising for things that are totally insignificant? Do you feel like you can’t quite achieve the things that you long for: that dream job, that amazing relationship, the perfect body? Basically do you feel like something much bigger is holding you back? This my friend, is a classic case of not truly loving you. I know, because I have lived it. I was the queen of attempting to attain selflove by getting love or approval from the outside world. I knew there was something holding me back, but didn’t know what it was. constantly and waited for permission to show up, be myself and be worthy of love and success. I placed love outside of myself, starving myself from the love and approval I was seeking. Then I did the work. I went through decades of spiritual work and countless tools and processes to unravel the patterns and found love within my SELF. This inner work opened me up to receiving the six principles from Source. These six truths are the way in which Source energy functions in order to sustain and support itself. When you accept these principles into your heart, you will be on that path to eliminate your self-love blocks, so you can get on with your sexy, sassy, successful life! want you to fall in love with your smile. Did you know that the first thing that most people notice about you is your smile? And obviously that means your teeth too! I believe the most important thing you wear is your smile. How to love yourself without saying positive affirmations in the mirror WORDS SAND MEW

M

ost of us are highly aware of the fact that we need to love ourselves and top up our cup first, before we can help others. We can only keep pouring from a full cup. Helping and caring for other people’s needs more than our own on an ongoing basis can easily lead to: • Resentment building up • Anger outbursts that seemingly come out of nowhere • Exhaustion • A sense of being used • Powerlessness • Feeling like a victim • Hopelessness, all the way to depression But loving yourself is easier said than done. They recommend to look in the mirror and say “I love you” over and over, until you start believing it. Positive affirmations can be super powerful, but if every ounce of your being screams, “what a load of nonsense!!” within,

you won’t be able to feel it and you will simply be wasting your time. Or, like in most cases, you won’t even go there (because it feels uncomfortable) and you’ll keep pouring from an empty cup, until you’re burnt out and won’t even remember who you are anymore. This is called cognitive dissonance and is a result of a conflict between your conscious mind (telling you that you ‘should’ love yourself) and your subconscious mind (represented by the body, reminding you of all the reasons why you shouldn’t). Usually your subconscious/body wins. Therefore, telling yourself “I love you” in the mirror won’t cut it. If you haven’t processed them at the time, your body stores beliefs and memories from the past in the form of trapped emotions, so you don’t forget them before you’ve acknowledged them and learnt their lesson. They create tension, emotional and mental imbalances which, if not released, can lead to pain, inflammation, dis-ease

and changes in body shapes which are all reflected in a miniature map in your feet. If your body is holding onto a heap of memories you feel shameful or guilty of, you won’t be able to use positive affirmations effectively. Instead, telling yourself you love yourself will feel like a small or big fat lie. The good news is that trapped emotions can be released via specialised clearing and the feet with ‘The Footprint Connection Reflexology’. here is a great deal of hype about what ‘love’ really is to the modern day spiritual ‘tribe’. Personal and conditioned love comes with expectations, beliefs, agendas, control, manipulation, fear, heartache not to mention the by-products of stress that come with such fears that are rising at the rate of knots as the foundation of worldwide mental health issues. How is that so? We are born into this world as a pure, unconditional, innocent soul whose entire requirement of survival are the basic human needs of: food, water, warmth, security, safety and hopefully healthy loving human attachment. These simple things are essential for the developmental stages of childhood, growing into even more requirements for safety, love and stability and as we move into the next stages from 0-7, 7-14, 14-21 and so on… If at any time through these developmental stages we experience

loss or separation from our primary caretakers, a split or disassociation begins as our first sense of LOVE LEAVING, resulting in a lifetime of trauma. We then, unconsciously (and led by our subconscious) continue to make our way through the darkness of disillusionment until one day we get hit with the big existential question, “who am I?” It is in this moment we began a new journey of seeking to find ourselves through self discovery modalities and philosophies that are ‘outside’ of our normal day-to-day activities that teach us to start turning within to find ourselves again. It’s here, with a new relationship with a love inside of us (instead of the outside objects and people we have tried to source love from in the past and desperately failed), that a true awakening and self-love is found. Love the one you’re with

ove… so many definitions! And so often used, abused, twisted and taken for granted. What about love that is authentic and unconditional, or love that comes with no obligations? Love as a judgment-free zone! Now that’s a gift rare and precious and one worth cultivating! In the past, love was very much externalised: • Loving and caring for others more valuable – self-sacrifice proving goodness, godliness and value. • Being in a relationship – a sign of success and a measure of self-worth. • Finding ‘the one’ – proving that we’ve got it right! Most of us now acknowledge that loving ourselves is essential to our health, wealth and personal growth. And yet, many still struggle putting themselves at the centre of their life and reality without being in resistance or reaction to others! CHOOSING FOR ME INCLUDING THE WE! It took me years to realise that I

needed to have me at the centre to really love and honour myself. Being an extreme empath, I found it very difficult, often confusing and exhausting to have myself when in a relationship. That included family, friends, work/business colleagues and clients. I was judging myself so much. I chose to not have an intimate relationship for nearly seven years whilst I learnt how to operate in this new way – with me at the centre. For the past two years it’s included a partner. Building the muscles required for me to be at the centre of my reality and able to have relationships without losing myself has changed my life! And it’s not about separating, in fact quite the opposite. Separation is about putting up barriers and creates way more stress and confusion. A

s humans, love is a topic in which we are intensely interested. There are many books, movies and songs on the topic. They explore the various different types of love – for example – love of a partner, love of a parent, love of life and love of people/humanity. Love of people is an involved topic. There are lots of people in the world and some of them are easier for us to love than others. Two beings have come into my life recently who have reflected different aspects of love for me. Their personalities are similar – they are both outgoing and friendly. One is a human who ‘pushes my buttons’ simply by breathing. The other one is a little dog. I find it easy to give and receive love from the dog. She just radiates love and non-judgment and has the most beautiful doggy smile. Contrastingly, I am a long way from loving the human. I find myself judging myself harshly for

my critical and non-loving thoughts. In the Bible, it says, “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another”. It’s easy to love those who are loveable and whom you like. It is not so easy to love someone whom you don’t like. Our animal friends make it easier for the best part of ourselves to shine. I look at the pup and she has so much to teach me about life. She loves life and she loves people. She just bounces up to people and she sees the best in them. She doesn’t do judgment. She lives in the moment and exudes eagerness and joy of life. “I am so ready to live and explore. Let’s go.” That is her life philosophy. Her enthusiasm is infectious. Every time the gate is open, it’s as if it were the first time. “Woo hoo. Gate’s open. Let’s go.” As adult humans we are often more jaded than this. When we were children, we had a love of life and even the most simple

thing could be an adventure. Then as we get older, we get more serious and tend to give up the adventure of life. What if life is merely a series of adventure? Do we even recognise the potential for adventure in our life? What if today was an exciting adventure of loving ourselves and loving life? What if we just woke up and decided to have as much fun and adventure as possible? If we don’t look for adventure, then it is going to struggle to show up in our lives. I know that life happens and sometimes it is more difficult to be in the adventure/loving life zone than other times. However if we never make the effort, then it will never happen. A Kahuna view:

Are you in love or fear?

L

ove is a huge subject to condense into 450 words. I’ll try my best to put it into a nutshell from the perspective of nature-based Kahuna principles. Many years ago I read somewhere there are only two primary emotions, love and fear, and all other emotions we experience arise from them. If that’s the case, then love and fear aren’t exactly emotions, but rather primal responses to situations, emotions arising from an individual’s perspective. This then makes the feeling of love personal, however the primal response of the nervous system to the feeling of presence, safety and happiness is the same across species, the state of being in para sympathetic, the path of least effort for the greatest amount of force. Fear then is the opposite in its motion. It’s not good or bad, it’s an alert system to activate a being towards safety, presence and happiness. Problems arise when a person exists

primarily in this state of high alert, the essences of life drained by the high demand for energy and there’s not enough constructive rest and nourishment for the body and the spirit. My understanding of how nature works is, motion activated by equal and opposing forces generates electrical energy. This universal principle is found to be true across time and space. Without fear, there can be no state of love. Life force is the flux and flow of these two states of being. A balanced being is one who resides primarily in love and is able to adjust quickly to change and return to the state of love. Emotions create an electrical charge; the same way movement of the body charges our cellular batteries. Any emotion that contributes to life’s energetic field needs to be acknowledged as well as the emotions that excite the fear response. Abraham Kawai’i, Kahuna, said “the pathway of fear is the pathway to being close with yourself”.

To know yourself well, you must know the good, the bad and the ugly of yourself so you can learn how to manage the emotions arising from fear. The quicker we can return to the state of love, the longer and stronger is the life force. Love is something that comes from within me, beginning with myself and projecting outwards. It’s not fair to ask another to love me in return for my love. Love isn’t a currency and it’s not our business what another person thinks of us. All our thoughts and emotions come from within so everything we think and feel affects us first. I’d rather be living primarily in love, happiness, existing in the present, losing my sense of time and space in creative focus, but at the same time aware and responsive to what’s going on. ove has been studied in the medical science for a long time. It has powerful effects in the biochemistry of the body. Everyone remembers their first love and the feelings involved. When we experience love, there is a cascade of chemical reactions, with the release of hormones like: dopamine, serotonin, noradrenalin, oxytocin to name a few. That sense of euphoria, obsession and attachment that love produces, is one of the best feelings you could experience and it has an important effect on your health. After World War II the death toll of children in orphanages was as high as 30% despite being provided with food, shelter and clothing. The only thing

lacking was the attachment to a primary caregiver. In the 1950s British psychologist John Bowlby filmed a two-year-old who spent 10 days in hospital and saw her parents for only half an hour, once a day. The little girl was transformed from vivacious to completely despondent. This shows the harmful effect of absence of attachment and love, and how important love is for survival, growth and ‘thrival’ in relationships later in life. Functional MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) of the brain shows how multiple areas of the brain light up when we are in love. One of the hormones often referred to as the ‘love hormone’ oxytocin has been shown to have multiple effects, affecting emotional,

cognitive and social behaviours. This hormone is essential for mother-baby interaction and for healthy bonding. It also appears to reduce stress and anxiety. In fact, the ill effects of stress, worsen the negative impact on certain diseases, from cardiovascular disease to survival of cancer. With our busy modern lives, we should stop and think about love more often, as sometimes it is during the difficult times that we desire it. We should use it as another tool to make us healthier, starting with self-love, love for family, friends and our pets. Sometimes it’s our animal friends who show us what unconditional love really is! hat do women need to do to thrive and feel truly alive and vibrant? And how do we find peace and fulfilment when we have way too many responsibilities? One of the most important things is finding balance and time to do the things that make us happy. This often requires courage to say “no” or to let our family know that we need time out from all of life’s commitments. ove comes in many forms from the heartfelt love of family and friends to intense passionate love of a partner. Today I am going to talk about the loving desire when people unite body to body, soul to soul and how cannabis enhances the experience. If this is your first time with cannabis in the bedroom, then leave your usual routine on the shelf and get ready for a new game plan. You may just want to revel in the loving atmosphere and cuddle, or explore something deeper, but either way it will be an experience you will never forget. Synergistic toxicity – an evolving

paradigm for environmental medicine

C

linical experience suggests that the effect of environmental pollutants and toxic substances we may be exposed to on a daily basis in so-called ‘harmless’ products, is likely to not only be additive, but possibly exponential. My investigations have revealed the validity of ‘synergistic toxicity’ and is also a useful concept for further research. A 1999 study from France looked at the effects of five heavy metals when combined to the chemical okadaic acid (OA), a marine toxin, were found to synergistically increase the cell toxicity of OA in cultured cells. A 2002 study from Hong Kong studied the lethal concentration of 10 heavy metals upon a species of parasite. Synergistic killing effects were reported and increases in mortality rates could be observed with combinations of low levels of multiple heavy metals. Following this, a 2015 study from China investigated the combination of low levels of lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic being administered individually

and as a various mixture to 10 groups of mice for around a 4-month time period. It was found that the interactions with the host were ‘basically synergistic in nature’ and the combined low level exposure induced kidney damage in the mice. Looking at the mechanisms of toxic synergism gets even more interesting. Glyphosate, the ingredient in ‘RoundUp’, the widespread herbicide, for instance, has been shown to suppress cytochrome P enzymes in plants and animals. It is well established that CYP enzymes are essential for metabolism and excretion of a number of toxic compounds in the human liver. Studies on the heavy metal mercury, commonly found in large fish, mercury amalgam fillings, and various household items, have found that mercury directly induces a selenium deficiency state and blocks selenium’s vital role in maintaining not only the redox state but also likely the ability of selenium to diminish the potency of various carcinogens.

Elsewhere, studies on the mycotoxin, ochratoxin A, can be encountered via contaminated foodstuffs including dried fruits, wine and coffee. Several studies have shown that ochratoxin A can interfere with a major mediator of the enzyme glutathione-S-transferase (GST) which is vital for detoxification of environmental toxins. So based on these mechanisms, it can be inferred that the additive effect between environmental chemicals, heavy metals and mycotoxins, is likely to be synergistic, and therefore the use of singular toxin detection levels is likely to be extremely limited as a model of evaluating the effect of environmental toxins on a patient with chronic disease. This mechanism and model of environmental toxicity urgently needs further research and evaluation so as to pave the way for more physicians to routinely evaluate for environmental toxicity as part of their assessment process in acute and chronic illness. www.lotusholisticmedicine.com.au

Time for an

EMR spring clean?

A

t this time of year, with winter well and truly behind us and long summer days just around the corner, many of us take the opportunity to give our homes a good spring clean. Along with cleaning those dusty, hard-to-reach spots and ensuring our home is free of mould and other toxins, it’s the perfect time to deal with another invisible nasty: electromagnetic radiation (EMR). There is much research to show that prolonged exposure to EMR emitted by WiFi routers, mobile phone towers, smart meters, wireless technologies and household appliances can be detrimental to our health. Indeed, many people are extremely sensitive to the increasing amount of EMR in our environment, so it is important to reduce our everyday exposure to it and the best place to start is in our own homes. A good first step for an EMF spring clean is to measure the current levels

of EMR in our home, particularly those areas in which we spend the most time. EMR is measured using an RF meter and is measured in µW/m². The Australian College of Environmental Sciences recommends <10µW/m² for living spaces and <5µW/m² for sleeping areas. The next step is to identify the sources of EMR in the home. The most obvious emitters in our homes are WiFi routers, smart meters and smart devices but there are also some unexpected sources of EMR to be aware of, such as baby monitors, cordless phones, smart fridges and even LED light bulbs. Once the source of EMR has been identified, we can consider ways to either increase our distance from it or ways to reduce its use. For example, if the bed is against the opposite side of the wall from a smart meter or a high emitting appliance, can the bedroom furniture be re-arranged to increase distance from the source of EMR? Can the WiFi router

be relocated away from the main living areas of the home? A great tip to reduce the amount of EMR exposure from a WiFi router is to turn it off when it’s not in use, particularly in the evenings to safeguard our sleep. An EMR spring clean is also the ideal opportunity to consider swapping out WiFi for hard-wired ethernet cables on computers, printers and other wireless tech. Finally, an EMR spring clean is a great time to clear out any tech from sleeping spaces and set up a landing site away from bedrooms where phones and other smart devices can be stored and charged on airplane mode overnight. For those in the habit of using a phone as an alarm clock, now is the perfect time to purchase a good old fashioned, non-EMR emitting, alarm clock instead. Happy spring cleaning! rom the beginning of time, humanity has looked for guidance and inspiration from outside. We searched the night skies for wisdom and guidance through symbols. On a spiritual level, we question our value and our ability to love unconditionally. Our animals do not have this problem; their animal nature and spirit are ONE (frequency) therefore can mirror these intuitive powers back to us. It’s okay to be angry. Everything that is happening on Earth is part of our evolutionary process. The heart chakra is opening, moving us through any residue fear within our emotional body then, like an echo, it gently fades away. Through a phenomenon of quantum physics (called entrainment) the higher frequency of our horses (and all pets) heal our personal frequencies, dissolving the anger we feel towards ourselves and others… allowing us to be whole again. pring is here! The sun is rising earlier in the day, flowers are blooming, bees are buzzing and birds are singing. Spring is the season of renewal. We uncurl from beneath our winter blankets and open to the returning warmth and light. ’Tis the season for movement, detox and outdoor adventures, and our animals feel the shift too. While we are waking up from our winter hibernation, pesky parasites are getting active. Fleas, ticks, hot spots and ear infections are all common complaints in the warmer months. Visits to the vet can become a regular occurrence at this time of year! What can be done to build strength and resilience, so these pests (and other diseases) don’t affect your pet so dramatically? 1. Feed a raw, natural diet. Raw foods will cool the body down due to the higher water content. The wholefood ingredients provide your pet with the nutrients they need to build a strong, healthy immune system, more able to resist parasites and infections. 2. Provide pure water. Water is

the most important nutrient for optimal health. But most drinking water is contaminated with heavy metals and additives. Your pets will benefit from pure drinking water too (even if they prefer to drink from dirty puddles!). Invest in a quality water filter or consider getting pure water delivered. 3. Reduce chemicals in your garden and around your home. Glyphosphate (‘Round-Up’) is one of the most pervasive chemicals known to man, found in most foods and water supplies (and consequently in human urine). Recent findings indicate that glyphosphate exposure may cause DNA damage and cancer in humans. Your pets don’t wear shoes, and love to roll around in the grass – I wonder what their glyphosphate levels are?! 4. Minimise unnecessary chemicals. Many animals are still getting vaccine ‘boosters’ on ‘schedule’ every year. Many of these vaccines are scientifically proven to be unnecessary past adulthood. And not all ‘preventative’ chemicals are essential either. Talk to us about how to reduce your pet’s chemical burden. 5. Earth your pets. Being grounded

by nature is very important for their spirit, and ours. Spend time together outside daily. Most dogs love a walk at dawn or dusk, and cats also benefit from getting their feet in the dirt and their fur in the sunshine. If you live in a wildliferich area, take your cats out only when supervised, or consider building an outdoor enclosure so they can enjoy the outdoors whilst keeping our wildlife safe from their claws. Love notes to myself... WORDS KRISHNA EVERSON

S

elf-love. Essential, but not always easy. When I was growing up it was considered an insult if someone accused you of ‘loving yourself’. It’s little wonder that so many of us struggle with this. As a young girl I felt inadequate at best, and at my lowest points, filled with self-loathing. It’s been a journey to unlock the door to genuine self-love, but I am delighted to say that I am getting there! I am fortunate to be surrounded by insightful teachers who encourage and facilitate this process wholeheartedly. As much as I love to spend time in my head pondering these things, nothing beats taking action. This week I decided to play with the concept of self-love – and affirm daily that “I love, honour and nurture myself.” I was gentle with myself as I went through my usual routine, minimising negative self-talk, enjoying ‘being’ whilst observing what came up. As I sat with

the self-love concept, I wrote some ‘notes to self’ as a reminder to love, honour and nurture ME! Love who you see in the mirror. Embrace and love this body, your temple! It has been good to you! It makes you feel alive, and allows you to do things you enjoy. Look deeply into your eyes and say “I love you”. Be your own best friend. Receive compliments with an open heart. Hear, receive and acknowledge words of love, encouragement, support and praise with a warm-hearted “thank you”. You deserve it! Give yourself permission. Say YES to you! For whatever it is you choose. You don’t need to justify it to anyone else! Put yourself first. It’s self-love first aid! Taking care of you means you can also be available to others and able to hold space for them when needed. Forgive yourself. (This is a biggie!)

It’s okay to make mistakes. It doesn’t make you a bad person! We do the best with what we have and where we are at. All is forgiven. Embrace your quirks. I was referred to as ‘qwirky’ twice this week which I find quite funny! That’s okay, I’ll take it! I acknowledge my uniqueness. As Coco Chanel once said, “beauty begins the moment you begin to be yourself”. Take time out when required. Go for a walk, connect with nature, or schedule a massage. Whatever facilitates grounding, restoration and rejuvenation. Ask for help if you need it. People are usually very happy to help. Just ask! You are enough. You are worthy, loved, and loveable! Self-love is deeply personal, and is different for us all. For me it is mostly about self-acceptance in all its forms. May you love, honour and nurture yourself this month!
