In November 2016 – January 2017 NESsT conducted in-depth research on the social enterprise ecosystems in Croatia and six countries in the Western Balkans in order to map out the legal and policy environment, current stakeholders, the financial and non-financial support needs of social enterprises and the financing and capacity-building options available to them.
It is the first comprehensive research of this kind, covering seven countries in the region: Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia. The study includes the views of more than 90 important local and regional stakeholders, who were available to the research team for interviews and to share their visions and conclusions. Its ultimate purpose is to inform key stakeholders in the region on how best to move forward to strengthen social enterprise in the region.
