Third Generation Camaro Sound System Upgrade Finding high-performance parts for the third generation Camaro has never been difficult. As a matter of fact as early as August of 81', months before the official launch on October 12, 1981companies like Edelbrock, B&M, K&N and Jet Performance and other were already announcing upgrade ranging from simple air filter upgrades to re-mapped computer chips and even superchargers. However, It took about 20 years for the electronics, especially in regards to the sound system to catch up. Today upgrading the audio system of your 1982 to 1992 Camaro is not only possible but also fun. I contact the guys over at Car Audio Near Me, a website dedicated to just car audio stuff and they put together a system for me. One wish I am delighted to have. The 91 Camaro, IROC Z came with some of crappies 4X6 speakers ever build on the upper dash and similar 6X9 speakers on the side pillars. The car audio system design called for a pair of 6X9 midbass driver on the side pillars, a pair of 4X6 component plates on the dash, two ten inch free air Kickers mounted on a Q-Logic custom enclosure, a Rockford Fosgate R600X5 Prime 5-Channel Amplifier, and a Kenwood single DIN receiver. That on its own is nothing to write home about. And this is why going to guys who know what they are doing comes into play. The tech support guys at CarAudioNear.Me had listed in the original design a 3-Way electronic crossover from Lanzar. I didn't think I needed it! So, as I started to put together the system I skipped it and fire it up, I have to say I was impressed but not WOW. Then I decided, just for the hell of it, to incorporate the Lanzar Optidrive 3 Way Electronic Crossover into the system as suggested. WOW, what a difference! You see what the Lanzar crossover does is roll the high frequencies from the rear drivers making them play only midbass. What this does is it improves the width and height of the front stage considerably making it a lot more enjoyable.
