PRINCESS WHATSERNAME

September 14, 15, 21, 22 at 7:00 p.m. September 15, 16, 22, 23 at 2:00 p.m. Renaissance Theatre Tickets: $10 Children, $12 Senior/Military, $15 Adults

With a classic fairy-tale setting, loads of exciting and hilarious roles to play, a variety of entertaining musical numbers and a plot full of mystery and adventure, this show has it all! It begins in the Misty Forest, where a girl is sleeping all alone. But when she wakes, nothing looks familiar to her. She can’t remember anything — not where she’s from, how she got here or even her own name! She embarks on a journey to discover her identity and meets several fairy-tale characters along the way — Hansel and Gretel, Rumpelstiltskin, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Cinderella and Rapunzel to name a few. Some are helpful, some are dangerous and some are just plain weird, but all have information to help our young girl eventually realize her true identity as a princess. As with any good fairy tale, there’s also a prince! He’s desperate to find the princess, but he’s always one step behind and inadvertently rescues and wins the hearts of all the wrong princesses! A rocking musical score adds even more fun to new takes on the stories everyone loves.

THE TAMING OF THE SHREW

October 12, 13, 19, 20 at 7:00 p.m. October 13, 14, 20, 21 at 2:00 p.m. School Performance Dates: October 13, 19 at 10:00 a.m. Tickets: $10 Children, $12 Senior/Military, $15 Adults

The play begins with a framing device, often referred to as the induction,[a] in which a mischievous nobleman tricks a drunken tinker named Christopher Sly into believing he is actually a nobleman himself. The nobleman then has the play performed for Sly’s diversion. The main plot depicts the courtship of Petruchio and Katherina, the headstrong, obdurate shrew. Initially, Katherina is an unwilling participant in the relationship; however, Petruchio “tames” her with various psychological torments, such as keeping her from eating and drinking, until she becomes a desirable, compliant, and obedient bride. The subplot features a competition between the suitors of Katherina’s younger sister, Bianca, who is seen as the “ideal” woman.

KTG Downtown Series presents:

MURDEROUS CROSSING September 21, 28 at 7:00 p.m. September 22, 23, 29, 30 at 2:00 p.m. September 22, 29 at 6:00 p.m. (includes dinner) KTG: Downtown, Taylored Venue & Events, 115 Shelby St. Tickets: $10, $25 (dinner & show)

The year is 1923 and audience members are passengers on board the HMS Victoria as it crosses the English Channel. The famous Inspector Clurrot has tracked down a homicidal mastermind hiding out on board. Meanwhile, the ship is the vessel of matrimony for the Contessa Follette and John D. Rothchild – a marriage encouraged through financial need and murderous greed. But not everything is as it seems, and it turns out that the English Channel isn’t the only thing being crossed. Audience members are recruited to stand in for the best man, bridesmaid, mother of the groom, and father of the bride in this Agatha Christie style comic mystery.

A TUNA CHRISTMAS

November 9, 16 at 7:00 p.m. November 10, 11, 17, 18 at 2:00 p.m. November 10, 17 at 6:00 p.m. (includes dinner) KTG: Downtown, Taylored Venue & Events, 115 Shelby St. Tickets: $10, $25 (dinner & show)

In this hilarious sequel to Greater Tuna, it’s Christmas in the third smallest town in Texas. Radio station OKKK news personalities Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie report on various Yuletide activities, including hot competition in the annual lawn display contest. In other news, voracious Joe Bob Lipsey’s production of “A Christmas Carol” is jeopardized by unpaid electric bills. Many colorful Tuna denizens, some of you will recognize from Greater Tuna and some appearing here for the first time, join in the holiday fun. A Tuna Christmas is a total delight for all seasons, whether performed by two quick changing comedians as on Broadway or by twenty or more.

Suzuki Talent Education of Appalachia Why enroll in a Suzuki program?

Parents make many sacrifices for their children in order to set them on a path of learning. Suzuki music schools provide unique opportunities: 1. Students of every age are accepted. No auditions. No entrance exams. 2. Children naturally imitate. When music students are immersed in a world of music where they hear and see other children playing instruments, they, too, are inspired to play. Suzuki Method uses this to great advantage. 3. Teachers are carefully trained to work in this way. Suzuki Pedagogy is a specialty.

Why involve the parent? Parents want to be part of the process. Parents who attend lessons understand why assignments are made and what steps need to be taken at home to achieve mastery of each step. Parents (and grandparents) can be involved at every stage of learning, first as note-takers and home-teachers, gradually assuming a role of advocate and cheerleader. Parents are their children’s primary role models. By giving them a chance to learn skills which last a lifetime, parents are also giving children a type of learning which can apply to many other parts of life. Specifically, breaking down large tasks into smaller ones, learning how to budget time, using something known to learn something unknown, taking a ‘finished’ piece further into deeper understanding and a richer experience, learning patience by understanding that learning is a process. Parents in a Suzuki program are giving their children a sense that what they are doing is important and can last a lifetime. Children’s brains need stimulation and, in a world which often seeks to entertain, we are giving children a body of knowledge and a set of skills that actually help their brains develop in advantageous ways. Parents of new students often look to veteran parents for guidance and encouragement. Often, parents are already familiar with Suzuki Method or were Suzuki students themselves and are looking for a similar experience for their own children.

Parents

Teachers Students The Suzuki Triangle – It’s a Team!!

Teachers depend on parents for commitment and enthusiasm. Parents depend on teachers for commitment and enthusiasm. Students trust teachers and parents to lead them through the challenges of learning: 1. ear training 2. lesson behavior 3. posture with the instrument 4. producing a beautiful tone Dr Suzuki’s autobiographical book about the creation of his teaching philosophy, Nurtured By Love, gives an account of the situations and circumstances that led to the development of this style of teaching. In the post-WWII years in Japan, part of Dr Suzuki’s focus was on healing a hurting world. His family owned a violin factory and played music together, so choosing music and the violin were natural choices in his search for a vehicle to bring about change. He declared his method to be for ‘the happiness of all children.’ Music Lessons in violin, viola, cello and piano. Ages: 3 to adult. Renaissance Center, Kingsport TN 423.246.1367 www.steamusic.org
