The switch on is a must see
Welcome Welcome to the Barnstaple Christmas programme where you will find details of our packed festive line-up. Such is the popularity of the town’s Christmas festivities that our events are even bigger this year, starting with the Christmas Light Switch on at The Square on Sunday November 20th with the fantastic Dionne Bromfield as the headline act. As always, we aim to make this an event for all the family. Along with a traditional fair on The Strand, a host of musical acts on the main stage, the day is going to be filled with fun and festive spirit. We would like to thank all the businesses that have supported our Christmas activities, in particular our main sponsor, the Co-Operative Group. We would also like to thank all of our other sponsors, who you will see advertising in this brochure, and in addition Artavia Advertising for their marketing support plus of course our invaluable volunteers who help with so much throughout this period. This year we have teamed up once again with the North Devon Hospice. You can show your support by purchasing a ticket in their bumper draw and be in with a chance to win the first prize of £5,000.

Introducing ‘It’s a must’ Barnstaple’s new branding was initiated by BiD Barnstaple and created by Artavia, to introduce Barnstaple as a must-visit for both residents and businesses. The aim is to raise the profile of Barnstaple and give it an identity and personality of its own. The key to the rebrand is to bring the community together to take pride and act as brand ambassadors promoting Barnstaple as a ‘must’ for shopping, eating out, fresh produce and services to name but a few.
We are again proud to support Barnstaple at Christmas. As a member of The Co-operative, you can make a difference in your local community. We are run by our members through our unique democratic structure which means you can have a real say in how our businesses are operated in your area. As a co-operative we believe in sharing our profits with you, our members. You can also opt to give some or your entire share to be distributed within the local area through The Community Fund which supports numerous community based projects including:
NCT North Devon Branch to increase antenatal support for parents
£1700
Appledore Book Festival to undertake events in North Devon schools
£1250
Ilfracombe Twirlers for competition standard
£500 £500 £450
Croyde Ambulance First Responders for medical equipment Parkham Allardice Hall for eco friendly hand dryers
In North Devon, we operate Food Stores in major towns and villages, a Travel branch in Barnstaple, Pharmacy at Bideford, Britannia, part of The Co-operative Bank with branches in Barnstaple and Bideford along with Funeral services in both towns. You can use your membership card online as well with The Co-operative Electricals. If you’re a member you can collect points at all our branches. If you’re not a member, join us today and share in our success. Come and meet the Co-operative team in the Town Square on Sunday 20th November - don’t forget to bring your Membership card!
