Enclosed Gas Valve Unit for Marine Applications
With decades of natural gas measurement and control experience, RMG by Honeywell has developed an advanced gas valve unit with axial, high-capacity regulators and safety valves housed in a gas-tight enclosure. This Enclosed Gas Valve Unit (E-GVU) is a compact plug & play solution, adaptive to any marine engine control system and enables full utilization of the vessel’s engine room with significant space and cost savings.
Compact Design. Robust Performance.
Rely on RMG by Honeywell • Over 150 years of combined experience in the natural gas industry • Worldwide solution leader in control, measurement and analysis technology • Products for natural gas transportation, storage, distribution and consumption • Local support with global expertise • Single source provider with a wide portfolio
The marine gas business is demanding. Service organizations need a proven solution to control, regulate and measure liquefied natural gas (LNG) for vessel propulsion. Stringent environmental regulations on emission control and an expanding LNGinfrastructure are driving a market shift towards gas as an alternative to marine diesel oil (MDO) and heavy fuel oil (HFO).
2 Enclosed Gas Valve Unit (E-GVU) for Marine Applications
Reliability Matters RMG by Honeywell is recognized as a reliable partner serving the marine gas industry from the very beginning. The Enclosed Gas Valve Unit (E-GVU) meets the challenges of today’s marine LNG applications. This compact, robust and easy-to-use unit is yet another innovative development satisfying the requirements of marine operations worldwide. Easier Installation RMG by Honeywell’s innovative E-GVU enables marine operators to design a gas train with significantly reduced space requirements. It provides a gas-tight enclosure around process components, including valves, regulators, actuators and sensors. This solution allows the unit to be installed close to the engine, similar to other auxiliary equipment. No dedicated GVU room is necessary, reducing costs for both the yard and owner. Savings are also achieved in the control system architecture.
Precise Pressure Control
Greater Confidence
For each gas-fueled engine on a marine vessel, the gas supply pressure has to be adjusted within a narrow, load-dependent pressure range. The ability to locate the E-GVU next to the engine reduces the gas volume between the pressure control valve and the engine itself, which improves the response time of the system during transient conditions such as engine load fluctuations.
The complete E-GVU system undergoes a factory acceptance test (FAT) with the marine engine control system before delivery, thereby providing the confidence of a high-quality and trouble-free commissioning.
Improved Ship Safety The E-GVU can improve the safety of LNG-powered vessels, as stipulated by the Interim Guidelines on Safety for natural gas-fueled engine installations on ships (IGF code). The main functions of the device are to regulate gasfeeding pressure to the engine, and to ensure a fast and reliable shutdown of the gas supply. With RMG by Honeywell’s approach, ventilation requirements are significantly reduced, compared to large dedicated GVU rooms, enabling faster and earlier detection of even the smallest gas leakage. Users also benefit from smaller hazardous areas and easier class approval.
Key Features • Compact Design – No exclusive GVU room needed – Effective use of engine room space – Lower equipment and installation costs – Limitation of explosive volume • Robust & Reliable – Permanently maintain high- accuracy class – Long maintenance intervals – Point of gravity closer to pipe axis – Less effect of ship vibration on gas system • Plug & Play – Easy to operate – Software adaptive to any engine control system – Ready for commissioning with factory acceptance test – Intuitive Human Machine Interface (HMI) • Scalable – Flexible installation locations – Sizing according to different loads
