Thank You Notes - Are they still relevant?

Page 1

After an interview with an organization or company, it is customary to send a thank-you note to the individuals involved in the interview process. This includes interviewers, recruiters and other individuals involved in the applicant’s recruitment process. With that in mind, there are individuals who still don’t send thank-you notes after conducting an interview. In fact, a survey conducted by Robert Half International shows that 80% of human resources managers consider whether or not a thank-you note was sent when making hiring decisions. Despite this jarring statistic, only about 24% of candidates send thank-you notes after their interviews.

Sending thank-you notes does not guarantee a job offer. However, they still serves a plethora of purposes that strengthen an applicant’s candidacy for a role.

Some of these purposes are listed below:

Thank you notes serve to express gratitude for the time and consideration given to a candidate during the recruitment process! 1. They can serve to reiterate an applicant’s qualifications and briefly communicate how said candidate is perfect for the role! 2. Thank you notes also communicate the candidate’s enthusiasm and attentiveness! 3

With that being said, not all thank-you notes serve to strengthen an applicant’s candidacy. Some candidates mistake the purpose of thank-you notes and send emails that might be too long, too detailed or without any of the core elements that traditionally constitute a thank-you note.

Worried you’re not sending strong thank-you notes? Don’t worry! We have included a list of Do’s and Don’ts to keep in mind while drafting your note:

Do’s

Send immediately after interview has concluded if possible

Should be sent within 24 hours of the interview
