University of Nevada, Reno
College of Engineering Building
The College of Engineering has seen unprecedented growth in its student enrollment, and is attracting top-quality faculty who are engaging students and conducting cutting-edge research. The University of Nevada, Reno has a well-established engineering complex with the Paul Laxalt Mineral Engineering, Paul Laxalt Mineral Research, Palmer Engineering, Scrugham Engineering and Mines, Harry Reid Engineering Laboratory, and Earthquake Engineering Laboratory. The addition of a new 87,000 square foot, state-of-the art Engineering Building would catapult the College of Engineering’s research capacity and provide students with the opportunity to work shoulder-to-shoulder with faculty who are solving real-world problems. The new Engineering Building will feature research laboratories, teaching laboratories, and collaborative spaces, promoting interaction between faculty and students while accommodating future growth and providing high-tech spaces to develop nationally competitive research programs for each of the five departments in the College of Engineering. The addition of this new facility to the buildings already in place will create a full engineering complex that will support the College’s five key research areas: sustainable energy, including energy storage technologies; autonomous systems, robotics and advanced manufacturing; cybersecurity; infrastructure improvement, including earthquake engineering; and environmental and health applications.
The new Engineering Building will provide the high-tech space needed to educate the workforce and meet the increasing demands of an emerging knowledge-based economy, to strengthen our economic diversity and to improve the resiliency of our communities.
