10th February 2012

Dear Parents/Carers, The term has been very busy so far and I know many of you will be looking forward to the half term break. The school will be open to some groups of students for their coursework and revision and I am sure that you will join me in thanking them for the support they offer to your children. Year 11 students this week had a revision techniques day presented by INSPIRE. This was arranged after students asked for assistance with their revision. Students feedback was very positive and we will be using this organisation again in the future. Nadine Powrie Headteacher Important Information: Year 10 Work experience Please remind your son or daughter that the sooner they apply for their work experience, the more likely they will be to obtain a position they want. For those students who haven’t logged on yet, it is important that they do so as soon as possible. If anyone is having a problem they should either see their tutor or see Mr Clouting, Head of Year. School Musical Production Our school is proud to present the Journey, a musical production through some very famous musicals and performed by our wonderful students. The performances will be on Thursday, 23rd February and Friday 24th February at 7.00 pm. Please do come along to support the students and Mrs Knight who have worked very hard to put this show on. Tickets are on sale everyday in A3 at lunchtimes, and are £1 for students/children and £3 for Adults. Year 9 Parents Evening Parents Evening for Year 9 is on 22 February 2012. If you can help to serve refreshments between 4.00 pm and 7.00 pm please contact h.whale@nevillelovett.hants.sch.uk Attendance Monitoring If a student does not attend school, the impact on their progress cannot be underestimated. The government set a benchmark of 95%. Above this level of attendance; students are expected to make the best progress. Attendance below 95% could seriously affect a child's progress. At Neville Lovett school we keep track of the attendance of all our students and as a parent you can expect the following actions: 

100% = attendance prize (assembly)

95% (equivalent to 1 day off per month) = phone call home/Log on Eportal

90% (equivalent to 2 days off per month) = Green letter home

85% and below (equivalent to 3 days or more off per month) = social services (Education Welfare Officer) involvement If there are any issues regarding attendance it is vital that parents contact the school as soon as possible so that we can support your child. We have a range of options available to help students who are having difficulties, so do not hesitate to get in touch. Unfortunately if very poor attendance is not addressed it could result in court proceedings, or even a fine. Improved attendance is also rewarded along with 100% attendance. So it's never too late to turn things around. Absence Notes All student absences must be authorised with a note when the child returns to school. This is a legal requirement and must be signed by the parent. Parents can use their child’s planner to authorise the absence. Selected to be part of the Hampshire & IOW team! Congratulations to Ben and Toby Roe as they have both been selected to be part of the Hampshire & IOW team in the Aviva Sports Hall Regional Final on Sunday 12th February. They will be competing against teams from the S.E.Region area – Channel Islands, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey and Sussex. Ben will be in the U15s team and Toby in the U13s. Only 12 athletes from all of Hamsphire and IOW in each age group are selected, so Ben and Toby have done very well to get into these teams. Any spare time? Come and help us! Parents and grand parents, please contact s.hoggarth@nevillelovett.hants.sch.uk if you can spare time during the week to help with a literacy project!

Year 8 rugby - Neville Lovett 20 Henry Cort 5 18 year 8 students took to the field to do battle with Henry Cort in what is to be considered a local derby! Neville Lovett put in a solid performance for the second week running and thoroughly deserved their win. The forwards were dominant in the scrum which created many opportunities for Ben White to carry the ball from the back of the scrum. The tackling was ferocious at times with every player committing to the task in hand. The tries were scored by Matt John, Jacob Francis (2) and Ben White. The team is looking forward to entering the Gosport and Fareham partnership league after half term. Thanks to the parents for their support Students of the week Year 7: Joshua Osborne was part of a 16 student team, which represented the school at the Gosport and Fareham Schools partnership indoor athletics competition, which was held at Camshill School. Joshua performed exceptionally well and he won the whole event making him the top year 7 athlete in the schools partnership. What a fantastic achievement. Well done Joshua!
