Newsletter Friday, 16th November 2012 Dear Parent, Carer Welcome to the latest edition of our newsletter which many parents find to be a useful source of information. This week our governors attended training at the school and a warm welcome was extended to governors from our 4 main feeder schools, Wallisdean, Ranvilles, Redlands and St Judes. Pupils from year 4 at each of these schools attended a special extra curricular activity which was put on by our Science Department and covered the topic of making their own lava lamps. Take up for these sessions was excellent . The English Department invited Ali Sparkes, Children's author,to visit students in Year 7 and 8. This was such a wonderful opportunity that we also invited pupils from our primary schools to attend. 40 pupils from Redlands were able to join us and a report will appear in next week’s newsletter. Nadine Powrie Headteacher Certificate Presentation Evening for our former Year 11 Students This summer our students again broke the school record with their GCSE results. The date for the Certificate Presentation Evening is now confirmed to be Wednesday, 12 December 2012. We are delighted that the Mayor and Mayoress of Fareham will be attending to present the awards. Invitations will be posted early next week. Important Update—Change of Date for Year 11 Parents Evening This has been moved to Tuesday, 11th December 2012 from 4.00 pm top 7.00 pm . Please amend your diaries. Invitations to attend will be posted on Monday, 19th November 2012. Attendance The attendance of our students is a key focus for the school as evidence shows that children with poor attendance are unlikely to succeed academically. There is a clear link between poor attendance at school and lower academic achievement. Attendance also makes up part of Ofsted’s key judgements when they carry out their inspections. As part of our recent Ofsted inspection a key target for the school is to improve attendance to at least above average for all students by September 2013. Ofsted grading’s for attendance are: Above average (Top 40%) Average (Middle 20%) Below average (Lowest 10 – 40%) Low (Lowest 10%)

93.95% and above 93.25% - 93.94% 91.68% - 93.24% Below 91.67%

94.89%

Neville Lovett’s overall attendance for this current term is which is classified as above average. This attendance figure is a huge achievement for the school and the students; we will continue to work together in the pursuit to maintain above average attendance.
