Dear Parents/Carers, We are currently conducting a parental survey in order to assess your views regarding your child’s education at Neville Lovett. Your views are important to us so please take a few moments to complete the survey following this link http:// www.surveymonkey.com/s/JP9Y632 . Nadine Powrie Headteacher Important Information: Data checking sheet: We have sent to each of you a data checking sheet, it is essential that we have the correct information. Please return this to the school office as soon as possible. Parents coffee Morning Last Friday we welcomed 15 parents for a tour of the school and to talk with our Headteacher over coffee. Those moments are a strong opportunity for you to express your views, and for us to know you better, and thus to continue to go beyond expectations. Here is the feedback one mother gave us following the Coffee Morning: “I have two children at the school one in Yr7 and Yr9. I was grateful of this opportunity it was the right time of day and just the right amount of time to take time out of work to discuss concerns and to here what was happening in the school. The e portal system was responded to promptly by the time I had got in from work I had access. I wound like to say that recently I have e-mail into the school to discuss concerns with various teacher I have always had prompt replies and very impressed with the helpfulness of everyone.” Next event will be held on Friday, 6th January 2012 at 4.00 pm. Do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to attend. Shoe box appeal Many thanks to all those who donated towards this appeal. We managed to put together 8 shoe boxes full of items for children in Eastern Europe. These 8 children should now have something to celebrate and play with over the Christmas period and beyond. HPV Vaccination Please note that the last wave of Year 8 girls HPV vaccinations will take place on Tuesday 15th December 2011. Governor Retreat The Senior Leadership Team, Heads of Year and our Board of Governors spent Friday and Saturday working together offsite sharing ideas and information about the future direction of the school. It was a great event and the decision was taken to hold this annually. Mrs Powrie is grateful to staff and governors who gave up their own personal time for the future development of the school to provide the best for all our students. Literacy Constantly improving your child’s literacy level is part of our mission, and we want to make sure good progress is made. Here are some questions you can ask yourself and your child to help him/her on this journey: Does your child enjoy reading? Does your child read at home? Do you read with your child? Strike As you are no doubt aware, there is the possibility of widespread public sector industrial action on 30th November 2011 regarding changes to pensions, and this is highly likely to affect schools. Our aim is to keep disruption of learning to a minimum and we ask for parents to support us with this. We will contact you nearer the time should it appear likely that disruption will occur on that day. In the meantime, please let us know if you have any further questions. Parents Teacher Association The school are keen to launch a Parent Teacher Association to raise funds. In these difficult economic times the pressure on school budgets is immense and any assistance with fundraising would be gratefully received. If you can spare a couple of hours a term please contact Helen Whale, Marketing and Communication Officer h.whale@nevillelovett.hants.sch.uk. The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, 10th January 2012 at 4pm.

This Week’s Events: Children in need: 3 Year 7 girls Eleanor Humphries, Charlotte Limburn-Green and Tye Shelley spent all day on Sunday 13th November 2011 baking and decorating cakes for Children in Need. They sold these cakes on Monday at school and raised a staggering £43.00. “This is a fantastic effort and I would like to personally thank them and so would Pudsey. Well done girls, a super effort.” Neil Edwards, Head of Year 7 Year 7 Rugby v’s Crofton and Henry Cort – Wednesday 17th November 2011 Eleanor The following boys took to the pitch for their ever rugby match against two other Gosport and Fareham schools: Reece Wells, Carl Whittingham, Euan Seawright, James Tilley, Ben Ord, Liam Pack, Ewan Maxwell, Joshua Osborne, Charlie Collins, Ross Tinney, Jeffrey Jerome, Jack Cuthbert, Tom Ray and Ashley Coston. The first game was against Henry Cort whose initial size concerned some of our boys. A quick motivational pep talk and the HAKA soon settled the nerves! It was a frenetic start and positioning was a problem at first but they soon calmed down, and began to play some good rugby. The tackling was Charlotte awesome and neither team was able to score a try. The score 0-0, did not reflect the work rate and commitment from both teams. After a 5 minute rest, Neville Lovett took on the host team – Crofton. This was a much better and flowing performance with both sides putting in 2 tries a piece – Joshua Osborne and Thomas Ray scoring for NL – the score 10-10. Well done to all and every one of you! Year 10 and 9 CCLD group The students had a lovely lesson this week when the classes were visited by 15-month-old twins Lacey and Levi. Their Mum and Nannies came to class and told us all about their birth, growth and development which are topics that we study. Many of our students showed that they are well suited to Tye work with children as they showed a lot of interest. Students of the week Year 7: Eleanor Humphries, Charlotte Limburn-Green and Tye Shelley. Year 8: Callum Pearce. Year 9: Sophie Watkins for producing a fantastic poem in English and reading this out in assembly. Very brave, well done Sophie. Year 10: Rosie Adams for an excellent Review both in progress towards target grades and Attitude to Learning. Year 11: Sophie Small for continuous and sustained effort and application in tutor time. Sophie makes excellent use of the opportunity to work independently to supplement her class room based studies.
