Newsletter Friday, 19th April 2013 Dear Parent/Carer I would like to welcome you to the new term at Neville Lovett Community School. Thank you to all the students staff who attended revision sessions and master classes held during the Easter holidays and the staff who ran them. These sessions will ensure that our students are well prepared for their forthcoming exams. During the holidays we were delighted to hear that the NHS have agreed to fund treatment for Sam John in the United States. The family have confirmed that they will continue their fundraising to raise monies to assist other families who need help. Thank you to everyone who has participated to date. We will continue to publicise the events being held. There are a number of work projects taking place around the school. The much anticipated works on the DT room begin on Monday and the contractors will have this completed ready for September. The tennis courts are to be upgraded ready for September and having listened to our students and parents the toilets around the school are to be modernised. This term we will continue in our uncompromising drive to enable all our students attain the highest level of achievement to ensure their future success. Nadine Powrie, Headteacher Year 10 Parents Evening - 1st May 2013 Please remember to book your appointments for Parents Evening. Your attendance will help you to understand and support the work the school are doing to ensure your child leaves school at the end of Year 11 with the qualifications they will need to succeed in further education or employment. The on line booking system is now open and the earlier parents book the more likely they will be to get the appointment times to suit. If you have any problems logging onto the booking system please contact the school office who will be happy to assist. Maths Results We are pleased to share with you the fantastic news regarding our Maths exam results. 44 students entered the March examination and the results have moved from 55% A*-C in November to 72% A*-C now in Maths. This already places us significantly above national average. This is another tremendous achievement from our students and staff. We have one more group of students who will be entered in the June exam with the hope to achieve above 80% A*-C. Raj Patel, Assistant Headteacher, STEM Data Collection Forms All parents and carers of students in Years 7 - 10 will have received data collection sheets via post. It is imperative that these are returned to school at the earliest opportunity. We require these forms to be returned even if there are no changes to be made. The school need to have up to date forms for all our students so that our computer system can be updated and parents can continue to receive important information from the school regarding the progress of their child. Anthony Payne, Head of MIS HIRA NEWS Miss Lesley-Anne Roberts joins the school week commencing 22nd April 2013 as a deaf instructor shared between Neville Lovett and Wallisdean School. Her role will be to support the hearing impaired students at both schools and to act as a role model to them. Miss Roberts will also help guide HIRA students in many aspects of their learning and school life alongside the learning and communication support assistants. She is very excited to start and we look forward to welcoming her to the HIRA department. Katie Micklewright, Teacher of the Deaf

This is an excellent achievement and the efforts of the maths team to prepare the students should be commended. In our continued drive towards becoming an outstanding school, two members of the Governing Body have enrolled on a Diploma in School Leadership. Both of them have successfully passed the first assignment. Elizabeth Webb, Chair of Governors New Rewards Scheme We have been listening to our students and what they would like from a rewards scheme. The decision has been taken to use a rewards scheme offered by Vivo. Further information will follow regarding how the scheme will work but their website if you want to find out more is at vivomiles.com
Mission for Sam Next week Mr Collins, Mr Edwards and Mr Herington will have their heads shaved to raise funds for Mission for Sam. If there is enough sponsorship they have also offered to have a leg wax! Students, parents and staff are encouraged to sponsor these brave men to raise as much as possible for the appeal. All donations gratefully received.
Chelsea Football Club This initiative was set up to inspire more girls to turn up and play, encourage girls to join clubs outside of school increasing the skill level of girls football in the local area. This will raise participation and provide a lasting legacy from the great success of the GB women’s team at the London Olympics. The year 7 girls football team entered a competition to win free coaching from a Chelsea FC coach. They had to write why, in only 50 words, our team would benefit from the coaching. We were lucky enough to win the competition and here are the girls in action in their first session with coach Phil Moody. A surprise was in store for the girls, who found out that they may be able to play in a tournament at Chelsea's training ground at Cobham after their 10 hours of coaching is complete in the middle of May.
