Dear Parents/Carers, I hope you enjoyed the Easter Break. We have returned to school with continued determination to ensure that our students achieve the very best results in the Summer which will open doors for their future and give them the best opportunities for their choice of further education or work when they leave us. Revision sessions held during the Easter Break were very well attended and I would like to thank staff, students and parents for their support. Brain Tumour Research Wear a Hat Day 30 March 2012. Well done to all who took part. We raised £700!

Governor Reading Programme Our governors are supporting reading at Neville Lovett School by reading with Y7s on a Friday. Today was the first session and I would like to share some feedback with you. Mrs Hoggarth, Head of Student Support Services Student A Y7 – “It was really fun reading today and I think it will help my reading even more”. Janet Bell Governor – “Student A read confidently, she chose to read alone and kept going even with difficult words”. Student B Y7 – “It was fine reading today, it was good”. Lucille Pendry Governor – “I really enjoyed the reading session, student B worked on using his voice for emphasis paying attention to punctuation. We are going to work on isn’t and hasn’t and he has agreed to go on the DS a little less at home and try to read more”. Both Governors are coming in earlier next week to look at the Rapid Reading programme before their reading sessions begin.

Progresso: Our Management Information System Progresso was installed over the Easter Holiday and is now in operation. Parents are advised that you will still be able to access and view Eportal for an interim period but it won’t be updated with Attendance etc. Parents will be issued Progresso logins in the near future via email. Going the Extra Mile Saturday, 26th May: English Revision Session (Year 11) Saturday, 12th May: French Revision Session (Year 9&11) th Saturday, 9 June: Maths Revision Session (Year 11) Cleaning Vacancy The school currently have a vacancy for a school cleaner. 4.5 hours per day, 5 days per week. If you are interested please contact Mrs Payne, PA to Headteacher for an application form at g.payne@nevillelovett.hants.sch.uk. A Plea to Parents/Grandparents Do you have time to spare to help with literacy in school? If you would like to help please contact h.whale@nevillelovett.hants.sch.uk. Review of PE Kit Parents are advised not to purchase any new PE Kit for students as a review of the existing kit is taking place. Any changes will be notified to parents following Governors meeting 15 May 2012. PTA We are still seeking members for a fundraising team at Neville Lovett Community School. Newsletter Neville Lovett Events: Rock Challenge Rock Challenge - 53 students took part in this years Rock Challenge Dance competition. We left school at 8 am on Tuesday, 17th March and competed at the Portsmouth Guildhall against 11 other schools. The students were excellent in their conduct, behaviour and effort. We won an award for Concept Originality. The long day ended at midnight but it was a great day. Well done to all students involved and thanks to Miss Dyke, Miss Izzard and Mrs Sherwood. Students of the week Year 7: Jessica produced an amazing HLT in music. This will be played in assembly next week. She made a short film/ppt on Bon Jovi her favourite band. This was an excellent piece of individual work. Well done Jessica. Year 8: Student of week Nathan Harmston raising £15 for wear a hat day. Year 9: Matthew Wick for making significant progress in Science.

Year 10: Sam John for the commitment he continues to show in school life and the interview that he gave in the press just before Easter Year 11Charles Halford and Connor Gardener. Both deserve congratulations as they have achieved A* in their Maths exams! These are superb results and most deserved -well done boys. Student Aspirations Karianne Williams (Year 7): “At the end of Year 11 I want to go to a specialist college for animals to study biology and animal care. I would like to do my work experience in a zoo or at a vets. After that I would like to go to university to get more qualifications in order to be a zoo fulltime animal worker or a vet. This is my dream.” Jasmine Bannerman (Year 8): Jasmine wants to work for the health care system. Her highest aspiration would be to follow in her uncle’s footsteps as a surgeon, but she realises this is a tough profession. Alex Buck (Year 9): Alex wants to become a doctor and in particular a surgeon. He knows he needs to get 10 GCSEs with English, Maths and Triple Science at A or A*. After that he will do 5 A levels and then go to University to study for 7 years. Ellie McClemens (Year 10): Ellie wants to work with children either in school or social work. After school she wants to go to college to study A levels or a vocational qualification if GCSEs do not go well then onto a job. Ideal job- well paid head teacher of a primary school. James Budd (Year 11): “In 10 years’ time I would like to be following a career in sport, hopefully as a coach”.
