Dear Parents/Carers, Welcome to our latest weekly newsletter. Feedback from parents has been very positive and it is good to know that you are finding the information useful. If you would like to make any comments, or would like additional information included please contact h.whale@nevilleovett.hants.sch.uk. Nadine Powrie Headteacher Important Information: Saturday classes There will be a Year 11 History class on Saturday 21st January for those students sitting the Germany paper. This will last all day from 9am until 4pm (amendment from previous letter home) and is essential preparation for their exam on Monday which is worth 25% of their total marks. There is also a Saturday revision class for the Year 10 History students which Miss Izzard is running. This starts at 9.30am. There will be 12 members of staff in school on that day. Olympic Challenge Well done to everyone who has supported the Olympic challenge, it has been a real hit with the students. The aim of this challenge is for students and staff to complete 2012 minutes of extracurricular activity across the whole school. The rewards will be Paralympic tickets for the first 30 students and first 4 members of staff, a really great incentive for the competitors! Another part of the challenge consists of getting seven reward cards,. These can be earned in any lesson when a student or group of students consistently promote a particular value. Until the 29th January the value is friendship, only 9 days left to get this first one! This week student Leader is James Cloutman Year 8, and the staff leader is Miss Grant. Well done! Year 11 Science Revision day in Oxford University For the first time a group of 40 students aiming towards B and C in Science GCSE went to Oxford University on Thursday, January 19th. This was a very interesting day, students were excited about the trip but also engaged in the lessons. They were given lessons in Physics and Chemistry as well as tips to revise effectively and successfully. We also had the opportunity to have lunch in the canteen (one student even sat in the president’s chair) and do a tour round the university, all were very impressed. The aim was to help them revise for their forthcoming exams and to give them a taste of what university looks like, mission accomplished! We will do our best to ensure that such an incredible experience happen s again! Homework Learning Task Homework is an essential and integral part of the learning process for students. It is a way of enhancing learning and allows parents to have regular input on their child’s education. For any form of homework to be effective it is reliant upon consistent school practice combined with parental support. Thus, Homework Learning Tasks are project based home works which require students to focus on what they are going to learn and how they will “show2 what they have learnt”. Here is an exemplar one, from Lucy Withers, Year 7. For her Geography Homework Learning Task she made a whole Monopoly game of the Czech Republic by herself. Very impressive work which took her more than twelve hours. Congratulations Lucy for such dedication!
