Newsletter Friday, 25th January 2013 Dear Parent, Carer Following the unfortunate weather last Friday, it was great to see everyone back at school on Monday and I would like to thank the site team who ensured we had safe access for staff and students on arrival. The school tables were published this week and the record breaking results over the summer have seen us rise a further 3 places on the league table. This is an excellent achievement of which we can all be very proud. We continue to monitor attendance closely and can report that this currently remains at outstanding levels in accordance with Ofsted criteria. Nadine Powrie
Headteacher Youth Speaks Competition - Congratulations to the School Team On Tuesday 22nd January Neville Lovett Community School won the annual Youth Speaks competition held at Fareham District Council. The team consisted of Joshua Chapman as Chairperson, Patrick Stewart as Speaker and Louis Crook as the Proposer of the Vote of Thanks. In this prestigious event they had to compete with other local schools such as Cams Hill, Wykeham House and West Hill Park and publically speak to the Mayor and Mayoress, Rotarians and members of the public on a topic of their choice. The topic they chose was ‘Have we become a Soap Opera Society of Conflict?’ The competition rules are that the speaker must speak for six minutes on their chosen topic and then answer a challenging question from a Rotarian in relation to their chosen topic. Patrick spoke with maturity, eloquence and passion. The Rotarian and Mayor commented that they portrayed themselves as a real team and that they spoke from the heart and it was this fact that led to them securing first place. The team will now go on to compete in the County competition at the Guildhall in Portsmouth on the 11th February. We wish them every success in the next round. Important Reminders for Parents and students Can parents please remind all students of the need to attend school with the correct equipment for learning. There are an increasing number of students who fail to bring the correct equipment to their classes. Visitors to the school site All visitors to the school site, including parents, must sign in at the school Reception. Failure to do this is in breach of the school Health and Safety Regulations. Thank you for your co-operation. E Portal Logins All parents have been sent login details for the school E Portal system. This is an excellent way to keep up to date with attendance matters and to check on the progress of your child. All parents are encouraged to access this information regularly. Homework Club update Parents are advised that there will be no Homework Club in school on Monday, 28th January due to staff attending a staff meeting.
