Newsletter Friday, 26th October 2012 Dear Parent, Carer This half term has flown by and staff and students are looking forward to the half term break, though the school will be open for revision sessions for targeted groups of students during the holiday. My thanks to the staff and the governors who have arranged these valuable sessions which will assist our students to perform exceptionally well in their forthcoming exams. As always there is a lot of information for parents in this newsletter and I hope that you continue to enjoy reading it. Nadine Powrie Headteacher GCSE Music Evening Parents and Staff enjoyed an excellent performance by our Year 10 GCSE students who, as part of their course had to perform in front of an audience on their instrument of choice. Thank you to all who supported the students at this event. We have some very talented students. Mrs Knight, Music Teacher. First Aid Training The school have arranged for CCLD students to participate in a 4 hour First Aid Training session on Friday, 26th October 2012. Students will be attending on an Inset day for this and should be commended for their commitment to their studies.. The training will centre around paediatric first aid and will be conducted by Medicot of Fareham. Students will receive a First Aid certificate valid for 3 years. Mrs Gange, Child Care Learning and Development Teacher Geography and History Booster Sessions Geography sessions are held every Thursday after school in A9 and A11 and run from 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm. Letters were sent home with students. History revision for German and British Society is every Thursday from 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm in A10 and A14. Miss Allbutt, Head of Humanities. School Photos In response to several requests from parents our Year 7 students will have their school photographs taken on Wednesday, 14th November 2012 by Yellow Photographers. Justin Craig Maths Sessions Targetted groups of students are attending schools on Saturdays for the next 3 weeks to participate in maths revision sessions being conducted by the Justin Craig Group, who have a proven track record in assisting students to achieve their full potential in maths. Thank you to students who have demonstrated their determination to succeed by attending these sessions. One student said that "I didn't get probability before but when he (the tutor) explained it I now get it".
Newsletter Friday, 26th October 2012 La star du département des langues - The star of the Languages Department Each MFL lesson, students have the opportunity to be rewarded with stamps/points according to their work and effort. After 4 very good lessons, students are given a postcard . At the back of each postcard there is a number and students have to collect the full set (11 postcards in French and 8 postcards in Spanish) to claim their prize . This year, Sophie Stewart has been our first student to collect the full set thanks to her commitment and hard-work during her French lessons. Congratulations Sophie! Some Year 10 and Year 11 students have opted for having a French pen-pal to practise the language learnt in the classroom and take it to another more exciting level. With the development of technology, the students have been given the opportunity to exchange information and start friendships using the net. “In our French AS option group, we have been writing to a French student that we chose from a selection of people we were given. By writing to them our French is improving along with our knowledge of French life. It is a good experience and we hope to eventually meet them” y10 student. Sporting Success at Neville Lovett Community School The Year 10 rugby team put in a thunderous performance on Friday afternoon to beat Test Valley School 29-15. It was one of the most physical performances seen for a long time. Congratulations to the team who have been drawn against Horndean Technology College in the next round. Congratulations to the Year 10 netball team, who are undefeated in their last 4 matches, beating every team convincingly. The teams in Year 8 and 9 have also had some success. Mr Collins, Head of Physical Education. Alumni News - Jack Whatmough Jack is playing a Youth Cup Game at Fratton Park for Portsmouth on the 26th October at 7pm. Tickets are £1 to get in. All welcome.
