Nadine Powrie Headteacher Important Dates for your Calendar: Friday, 30th March: Wear a Hat Day Monday, 16th April 2012: First day of Summer Term Wednesday, 2nd May : Year 7 Parents Evening Brain Tumour Research—Wear a Hat Day The major fundraising event for this organisation is taking place today, on Friday, 30th March and is called ‘Wear a Hat Day’. The tutor group who raise the most money between now and the Summer Break will have a trip to Portsmouth University to view the research laboratory in September! Easter Revision Classes The school will be open during the holiday for revision, please see our calendar and visit our website for more information. Art/Textiles Trip On Friday 23rd March the Art/Textiles Department took 38 Y9 and Y10 students to London to visit two of Britains greatest galleries. They visited the David Hockney Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Art. This was an amazing exhibition and students had the chance to sketch first hand from Hockneys work. Our students were impressed by the huge scale of the paintings and the vibrant colours. They spent several hours there writing and drawing about the work so that they could use the experience for their GCSE courses. Students then went to the National Gallery for lunch. After lunch they split into groups and were given a talk about three of the Galleries paintings by an Art Historian. The subjects of the talks were identity, costume and symbolism. The experience was very enjoyable and everyone learned a lot. Progresso: Our Management Information System Progresso will be rolled out to the school over the Easter holiday and will be in operation the first week back. Although you will still be able to access and view Eportal for an interim period it won’t be updated with Attendance etc. You will be issued Progresso logins in the near future via email. Going the Extra Mile Saturday, 26th May: English Revision Session. th Saturday, 9 June: Maths Revision Session. Governors reading with students To encourage students in literacy and to help them make further progress, several of our governors will meet every Friday from 9.30 am to 10 am and from 2pm to 3pm. This will be a great way for our governors to become more involved in the school and for our students to benefit from their experience. A Plea to parents/grandparents Do you have time to spare to help with literacy in school? If you would like to help please contact h.whale@nevillelovett.hants.sch.uk. Mathematics—Year 11 June GCSE Examinations After recent Year 11 Mock examinations we are making the decision as to whether you son/daughter re-sits their Maths exam in June. If your son/daughter is a long way off achieving the next grade or are happy with their C grade or above then they will not re-sit. However if you still wish your child to sit the exam or they really want to have a go then they can re-sit. We must know however whether before the 18th April so that we can make the final decision. If you wish to discuss this matter please call or contact me at a.willis@nevillelovett.hants.sch.uk.

Neville Lovett Events: Year7 Rugby vs Bridgemary This was a hard fought game that was played in a great spirit. There were some tremendous performances however Tom Ray deserves man of the match by a short mile for his rucking performances. Well done to the team, an excellent effort. Year 8 Rugby vs Henry Cort and Brune Park An excellent end to the season as Neville Lovett beat Henry Cort 30-0 and Brune Park 25-5. The team performed really well especially in the first game against Henry Cort where the team used the ball really well and put together some excellent phases of play. The games were played in really good spirits and I’m looking forward to working with the team next year. Mr Collins, Head of PE Year 11 Rugby The year 11 team were involved in a 7’s triangular series on Wednesday. It was a new experience for lots of the boys and it certainly highlighted how unfit some of them are! Neville Lovett ‘B’ team were the overall winners winning all of their games. I have really enjoyed working with this team over the past 18 months and they have come along way considering that many of them had never seen a rugby ball until September of last year. I hope you continue to play at college and I wish you every success with your future. Students of the week Year 7: For the year group for an excellent combined effort in raising hundreds of pounds towards sports relief. Well done guys, a great year effort for a phenomenal cause. Year 8: Chandler Harris For his resilience and dedication in producing an excellent History project for Miss Izzard. Year 9: Jack Crawford has aspirations to follow in his dads footsteps in the Navy. Jack has had a hard week but has done very well. Year 10: Fraser Hoskins for cycling the length of a marathon for charity. Year 11: Charlea Frimley and Charles Halford, Year 11 reps for next term.
