3rd February 2012
Dear Parents/Carers, As we head towards the half term break we continue to support our students in their exam preparations. Our 2012 Olympic challenge has proved to be very popular with students across the year groups and staff are also entering into the spirit to achieve their badges. It is wonderful to see students enjoying the many and varied after school activities across the site and Homework Club in the revamped Learning Resource Centre is buzzing each evening. Please encourage your child to participate. Nadine Powrie Headteacher Important Information: Revision Sessions The school will be open on Saturday, 4 February 2012 for Art and Design and Technology Revision Sessions. Internal Inclusion All student’s on internal inclusion will have this information logged on EPortal. Parents will be contacted by the Head of Year to advise them of any internal inclusion. Letters will no longer be sent. Olympic Challenge This week’s leader board sees Sophie Stewart from Year 8 with an impressive lead of 180 minutes over her nearest rivals. Miss Dyke, PE Teacher, is leading the staff challenge. Well done everyone who is participating — there is still time to join in! Chris Collins, Head of PE. Qualified for Hampshire County swimming competition! Adele Gaskin, one of our students, participated in the Portsmouth Northsea South East Regional Qualifiers Level 1 Open Meet swimming competition two weeks ago. She did really well, she achieved 3 personal bests for 100m backstroke (1.25.29), 100m breaststroke (1.32.65), 200m breaststroke (3.17.68) - these were all long course (50m) events. Both the breaststroke races gave her Hampshire County qualifying times for this year, and she only 3 seconds off on the 100m backstroke. Hopefully she will continue to gain more qualifying times between now and County's. She works very hard, regularly from 4am, well done and good luck Adele! School Musical Production Our school is proud to present the Journey, a musical production revisiting some famous musicals and performed by our students. It will take place on Thurday 23rd February and Friday 24th February, come and get ready for an amazing trip through times! Tickets go on sale Monday 6th Feb in A3 at lunchtimes, and are £1 for students/staff/children and £3 Adults.
