Newsletter Friday, 28th September 2012 Dear Parent, Carer It was a pleasure to see so many Year 11 Parents in attendance on Parents Evening this week. Year 11 is a vitally important year for our students who we expect to perform exceptionally well as the exam season begins. We are providing a number of exciting opportunities for our students to provide them with the best opportunity to succeed and these include some Saturday maths revision sessions for selected students with The Justin Craig Group, who have a proven track record of success in preparing students for their exams. Students studying CCLD will be invited into school on our next INSET day for a First Aid Training session, which will form part of their coursework, and will provide them with a first aid certificate valid for 3 years. Following the success of our revision day to Oxford University earlier in the year we are also looking into the opportunity to do this again. Preparations are well underway for our Year 7, 8 and 9 Enterprise week which starts on Friday, 5th October 2012 and we look forward to sharing details of the initiatives from these budding entrepreneurs in the next newsletter. Elizabeth Webb Chair of Governors Congratulations to our students! Francois Goulds (Yr 11 HIRA student) is currently taking his Duke of Edinburgh bronze award. He walked 31km in the New Forest over the weekend. Well done and we all wish Francois every success with this project. Thank you to Year 10 students, Jessica Underwood, Sam Traves and Shannon Ball for their assistance on Year 11 Parents Evening. Football Success Neville Lovett U14 Boys football team progress into the next round of the Hampshire cup beating Ryde Academy 3-2. Neville Lovett made an impressive start to the game and where a goal ahead within 5 minutes after George Higgins cross come shot ended up drifting in at the far post. Ryde were soon on level terms after a clearance was intercepted and the Ryde striker finished neatly by lobbing the ball over the stranded Chandler Harris. Ryde soon went 2-1 ahead afet a poor clearance from our back line the ball was struck on the half volley by the Ryde number 12 and it flew past a helpless Harris into the top corner. Neville continued to dominate the game and should have been 5-2 ahead at half time if it wasn’t for some lacklustre finishing. Neville continued to dominate the second half and played some really exciting football, we finally got the break through with 15 minutes to go, Carl Barton smashed the ball home from close range. George Higgins put Neville Lovett ahead with 10 minutes to go with a lovely left footed finish which Ronaldo would have been proud of. The boys played some of the best football I have seen for a long time and it was hard to pick a man of the match as everybody played well but the man of the match award goes to Theo Howden for his tireless work rate and exceptional use of the football.
