Newsletter Friday, 7th September 2012 GCSE RESULTS AND IMPORTANT NEWS FOR PARENTS Dear Parent, Carer Welcome back to the new school year at Neville Lovett Community School. During the holiday you will no doubt have read about the schools GCSE successes and you may also have seen us on BBC South Today. I am delighted to inform you that 67% of Year 11 achieved the Gold standard of at least 5A*- C grades at GCSE including the core subjects of English and Maths. The National target setting system told us that perhaps 63% of these pupils had a chance of securing this standard so the results exceed this figure for the second year running. Well done to students, parents, staff and governors who all pulled together to achieve this result. The start to the new school year has already been very eventful with a visit from French TV station TF1 on Tuesday (TF1 is the French equivalent of BBC1 and covers the whole of France). TF1 wanted to see the school’s 3 r’s of Respect, Resilience and Responsibility being used in the classroom. We hope to obtain a copy of the broadcast to share with you. We extend a warm welcome to all the students who have joined us in Year 7. Thanks to transition week in July our Year 7 students have got off to a flying start as they were already so familiar with the school and staff. Other students have also joined us in other year groups and are already well settled into school life at Neville Lovett Community School. You will recall that Mr Collins, Head of PE, set an Olympic challenge last year for students to achieve 2012 minutes of attendance at extra curricular activities, including homework club. On Monday, 3rd September 2012 30 students and 4 members of staff attended the London Paralympic Games at the Excel Arena. They had a wonderful time and witnessed some great sport. Finally, the Senior Leadership Team and the Governors’ retreat will take place on Friday 20th September to Saturday 21st September. The focus of this retreat will be to continue our work on ‘our journey to become an outstanding school’ and achieve the best outcomes for your children. Nadine Powrie Headteacher
