Dear Parents/Carers, Welcome back to the Spring Term at Neville Lovett! I hope you enjoyed the Christmas holidays. Our aim remains to become an outstanding school for the benefit of all our students and we will continue to work very hard to ensure that our students are making excellent progress. Nadine Powrie Headteacher Important Information: Important dates for your calendar: 10th January 2012 at 4pm: Looking for a New Year Challenge/Opportunity? Parents are invited to attend the first meeting of the newly formed Parent Teacher Association. Please contact Helen Whale, Marketing and Communication Officer h.whale@nevillelovett.hants.sch.uk, if you wish to attend. 23rd February 2012: The Mayor of Fareham will attend the school musical production from 7.00 pm. Exams Students in Year 10 and 11 will be sitting exams from 10 to 30 January 2012. The School will be open on Saturday 14 and 21 January 2012 for our Year 11 students when the focus will be History revision. We published an Information Booklet on the website, in the ’Information Bank/Exam’ part, and all the necessary information can be found there. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Appointments This term we welcome Rajesh Patel as Assistant Headteacher Science/Design Technology and Kirsty McKinnon as Literacy Co-ordinator for the English Department. The following teachers have been temporarily appointed to strengthen our existing team: Colin Old and Gail Blues (English), Michael Daffon (IT), James Laurijssen (DT), Ernest Lethbridge (Maths) and Donna Lovelock (Science). Parents’Feedback We have been delighted to receive several complimentary letters and emails from parents “I wanted to make it known how useful it is to now have the school newsletter emailed on a weekly basis… It's short, concise format makes it very easy to read” Yr 7 parent. Your views are always very important to us and in response to feedback it has been decided to adjust the times for Parents Evenings which will be from 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm in future. Charity of the year: Brain Tumor Research It is with pleasure that we can inform you we have been invited to support the Brain Tumour Research Campaign which will be our adopted charity for the year. As some of you will be aware one of our former students died from this devastating disease last year and the campaign will be very personal for many of our staff and students. Further details will follow. Parents Governor Vacancy The Governing Body is seeking to appoint a Parent Governor. A Parent Governor represents parents, and collectively Governors are responsible for considering and agreeing the aims and policies of the school, appointing staff, monitoring the budget and the performance of the school. If you want to contribute and help us making a difference, please complete and return an application form by noon on Friday, 13rd January 2012. Forms are available from the school website or from the school Reception. Options choices Year 8 will soon be choosing their options. On 15th February 2012 Year 8 parents are invited to attend the Year 9 consultation evening. The final choice has to be made by the beginning of March. School Attendance We have had a number of incidents where children have had to be sent home due to illness. Please think twice before sending your child to school if they are really ill. GCSE Music As a school we have been given an excellent opportunity by Hampshire Music Services. A professional composer is coming in to school on Fridays to help our GCSE Students with their compositions which contributes 40% towards their final grade.

Visiting dance teacher Michael Silk On the 15th December we were delighted to welcome one of our former students, Michael Silk, who is now a 20-year old breakdance teacher. Michael has been a dancer for about three years and breaking about 1 year, with a huge history of dance and gymnastics. In August last year he won the Udo world street dance championships coming first out of 700 people of his level. He very kindly learnt some moves to both boys and girls, who were very impressed and participated fully. PE Inter-Tutor Week During the last week of term the year 7 and 8 pupils were involved in the PE departments annual inter tutor competition. Over 90 students were involved, taking take part in a variety of activities including indoor football, basketball, bench ball and dodge ball. The results were as follows: the competition was fierce Year 7: 1st- 7U, 2nd-7E, 3rd-7A Year 8: 1st- 8T, 2nd-8E, 3rd-8M Congratulations to everyone who took part and a special mention for Mrs Knight who supported her tutor group 7U in fine spirits, she even created a tutor group team shirt. Well done! Students of the week Year 10 Josh Chapman and Year 11 Sophie Small for getting the highest bowling scores on the rewards trip.
