Newsletter Friday, 9th November 2012 Dear Parent, Carer Welcome to the second half of the Autumn term. The school remained open during the holidays to provide maths revision sessions for students as they approach the important examinations season. Maths exams have already taken place this week. The students have shown great determination to achieve their full potential and we wish them well deserved success. Parents have been very supportive of the additional revision sessions and members of the governing Body participated in the Saturday sessions demonstrating their commitment to the school and students. The trip to Chateau Beaumont during the half term break was a great success and for the first time parents could follow the progress via twitter. Parents should be aware that an increasing number of school departments now have twitter accounts and these provide a useful source of information. We look forward to the remainder of what will be a very busy half term up to the Christmas break. Nadine Powrie Headteacher YEAR 10 PARENTS EVENING - Important Update Please note that the school have been successful in attaining a place in the annual Rock Challenge Dance Competition at The Portsmouth Guildhall next April. Due to the popularity of this event for students and parents the decision has been taken to move the Year 10 parents evening to Wednesday, 1 May 2012. This change will mean that parents of Year 10 students will be able to attend both the rock challenge performance and parents evening. Please amend your diaries accordingly. Chateau Beaumont On 26th October at 6.00 am, 53 students (Year 8 and Year 10) left Fareham to experience several days packed with fun and learning in France. The students had the opportunity to broaden their horizon by exploring different historical towns: Laval, Mont St Michel, Fougères and its medieval castle. They were not only there to learn about the French culture but also to speak the language. Students were given some questionnaires to understand French ways of living and traditions to ask the locals. It was an excellent way to improve their speaking skills and build up their confidence with the natives! The students could also practise vocabulary through games and activities (Aeroball, Night Line and archery). A Visit to the Eiffel Tower and Disneyland Paris added to the adventure. It was an amazing learning experience for everyone! Ce n’est qu’un au-revoir, nous reviendrons visiter ce beau pays qu’est la France.

Justin Craig Maths Workshops The 3 Saturday sessions provided by the school for targeted groups of students were very well attended and the experienced staff from the Justin Craig Group covered numerous revision and refresher topics including algebra. Members of the governing body attended one of the sessions and commented that “algebra now makes sense”. As a school we always go the extra mile to provide the best for our students and these sessions will prove invaluable for students as they take their maths exams. Raising Aspirations On Friday 29th October 20 teachers and members of the senior leader team worked with Dawn Haywood from the Aspirations Academy Trust to look at ways of improving student aspirations. This first workshop focused on exploring the definition of aspirations focusing on' dreaming' and 'doing' and practical strategies to foster student aspirations so that they can realise their dreams and potential. There will be 4 further sessions after school over the next few months focusing on self-worth, engagement and purpose. We want to encourage all our students to aspire to be the best and be well prepared for life after Neville Lovett.

Newsletter Friday, 9th November 2012 Governor News Governors along with the Senior Management Team and teaching staff attended the GCSE Maths revision sessions that were arranged for our Year 11 students. Governors remarked that our students worked really hard, their concentration levels were high; they learnt new skills and were very involved and were polite at all times. We would like to wish them all every success in their early entries this month. Governors this term will continue with their literacy support for students which has proven very successful previously. PE News A revised timetable for extra-curricular PE activities has been added to the school website and students can access this information from the school TV Display screens. More Sporting Success ! Year 9 Football Team beat Stonehenge 1-0 away. A great headed finish from Carl Barton was enough to see us through to the next round. This was a good team performance with stand out performances from Carl Barton, Dan West, Shay Cook and Jordan Conway. Year 10 Football Team had another great result in the county cup competition. They took on the Costello school from Basingstoke at Fareham Town Football Club and beat them 2-0. Two second half goals from Danny Knee and Luke Shepherd sealed a good win, considering the pressure that the team came under from this well disciplined team. Notable performances within the team were made by Callum Parsons (in goal), Jack Stroulger and Danny Knee.
