THE NEVILLE LOVETT COMMUNITY SCHOOL
POLICY ON LATENESS It is essential for each student’s well being and success that he or she attends school regularly and on time each day. Attending registration twice a day is a legal requirement. Where students miss registration and fail to provide an adequate explanation this constitutes unauthorised absence even though the student may be on site. A student who is regularly late for school, and misses registration, puts themselves at risk because this may lead to truancy. A student late for the period 1 registration at 8.40 am misses an essential part of the school day. Above all a student who is regularly late for school is developing a habit of poor punctuality that will severely damage them in later life, particularly in succeeding in the world of work. If a student is late because of circumstances beyond his or her control, then this will not count towards the accumulated lates total. This will be agreed with the Tutor and Head of House. To help ensure that students arrive on time for registration the following measures will be adopted during the week in which the relevant cumulative total of lates is reached: 10 lates
20 lates 30 lates
The Attendance Clerk generates a letter home to alert parents that their son/daughter has been placed in detention with their Head of House. Our policy is enclosed with the letter. Head of House sends a letter home and arranges a detention after school for one week.  DHT sends a letter home and notifies the parent of an SLT detention.  The student will not be allowed to participate in a school trip unless no more lates recorded.
