The artwork represents Peter’s impressions and reactions to particular places and objects. They are developed from sketches, photographs and memories: which, through stages of drawings and over drawing, with layers of various media, tend to become more abstract as the work evolves.

International ceramicist: Hilary Mayo Hilary will be exhibiting a collection of new work inspired by a recent visit to Rio De Janiero, perfectly complementing Peter Jackmans’ abstract mixed media images

Rising Stars is a platform to view and collect some of the most exciting new crafts by emerging makers from crafts and applied arts programmes across the UK. This selected, curated, selling exhibition will be showcased at the New Ashgate Gallery, Farnham. The programme includes a series of professional development workshops and for one lucky participant, the chance to be selected as the winner, receiving a £500.00 bursary prize and solo show at New Ashgate Gallery in 2017. With special thanks to The Billmeirs Charitable Trust, University of Creative Arts Farnham and Surrey Arts, Rising Stars is a wellsupported and high profile initiative Many of the selected exhibitors have gone on to high profile careers and elite programmes such as Hothouse, supported by Crafts Council. For many artists and makers who have just completed an MA or BA, they are at a cross roads; they have a full portfolio of fabulous ideas, but do not have the proven exhibitor track record that most galleries look for. The New Ashgate Gallery offers just the right platform and for many the starting point to an exceptional career.

5 M a r c h - 16 A p r i l 2 0 16 Private view & meet the artist: Fri 4 Mar, 6-8pm – all welcome Emily Gardiner completed her MA in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art. Emily seeks to explore powerful emotions and frustrations from life threatening illnesses through ceramics, echoing the self/body dependence through clay and glaze. The glaze seeks release, but is still ultimately dependent on the clay body that contains it. Challenging the relationship between glaze and clay body by allowing the glaze to take on a more physical form exposes states of tension, dependence, containment and liberation.
