JANE WORMWELL: Botanical Landscapes 12 August - 23 September Jane’s work encompasses small, intense studies of individual plants and large expansive canvases of hedgerows and flower borders. She is driven by her love of plants and the English landscape, and a quiet intensity and northern light infuses her work. Jane says: I think of my botanical subjects as landscapes, exploring the interplay of light and tone and the spaces and rhythms between each plant to bring out the beauty and the drama of the forms. MAKER IN FOCUS: Mandy Cheng The Graceful Minimalist 12 August - 23 September Mandy Cheng’s porcelain works are designed to look graceful and minimalist; they conjure a feeling of lightness and a sense of movement. Her signature mesmerizing patterns mimic the vivid diversity of nature, but are not painted on. Using a lamination method, the patterns are meticulously prepared by repeated cutting and layering of porcelain sheets. Her hands-on approach ensures every pattern is unique and unrepeatable. Mandy’s beautiful creations are both functional and decorative; timeless collectible objects to behold and use.

VIEWS OF FARNHAM PART II 12 August - 23 September Following on from the successful Farnham Views Part 1, we are delighted to bring together two more local artists and their observations of the town and surrounding areas. As a wood engraver, John Bryce’s process involves engraving an image onto an end-grain boxwood block. This is then inked and printed onto paper using a Victorian Albion Press. John is influenced by the effects of light as they occur in the sky, on buildings and on water and he has tried to depict this in his recent wood engravings. He uses the engraving tools to cut a variety of marks on the block to express the mood of an experienced event. Susie Lidstone has been painting for some 30 years and works from her small studio in Farnham. Fascinated by the architecture of Farnham and all its alleyways, Susie enjoys capturing the hidden parts of Farnham and the shops that have gone but form so much of the history of the market town. Susie and John’s work is shown with award-winning classic trugs by Jane Crisp, inspired by local heritage and low tech processes. JOHN BRYCE, Farnham Church Copyright: the artist
DENISE JAQUES: One Year On - 2016 Surrey Artist of the Year 30 September - 11 November Denise creates artwork for interior and exterior spaces. Her work has a strong sense of colour, pattern and rhythm, and plays with the idea of distorted reflections. She is fascinated with the journey of experimentation and excited by the unknown destination. Denise’s recent artwork relates to places she has lived and loved. She has created a series of abstract landscapes and seascapes inspired by the Surrey countryside, Essex coast, and beyond, using the reflective qualities of glass to capture the ever changing light on the natural environment. She has developed her craft to include fun, shimmering mosaic art for the garden. These pieces gently sway, projecting a scattering of ethereal reflections around the exterior space. If you would like to try mosaic making, contact us to book for Denise’s workshops in the gallery.

Denise’s mosaic workshops are supported by the South Street Trust.

MIRKA JANECKOVA AND OLIVIA WALKER: Beautiful Form 30 September - 11 November This exhibition brings together Mirka Janeckova and Olivia Walker. Over the last few years, Mirka and Olivia’s work has become known for its exceptional beauty and skill of making. Dreamy landscapes of the deep sea inspire Mirka’s forms. Her jewellery is a container for wearer’s emotions, memories and hopes. The work is made from porcelain, glass, sterling silver and white pearls. Olivia throws precise forms in porcelain before covering and submerging them in organic repetitive patterns, made up of individually applied shards of porcelain. These accretions are always different. They speak of organisms - fungus, coral and bacteria - but are unidentifiable, growing over and eating up the form beneath.
