Chamber Welcomes Over 80 New Members “With All My Heart Child Care, Inc.” Receives 2015 New Bedford Area Small Business of the During Campaign The New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that the organization has recruited over 80 new members as a result of its 2015 New Member Campaign. Year Award & Seastreak is Recognized as Small Business Leader in Economic Development The New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce and BankFive are pleased to recognize the significant contributions and achievements of the region’s small businesses with the presentation of the 2015 New Bedford Area Small Business of the Year Award. The award was presented in June at a special edition of the Chamber’s Good Morning SouthCoast! business series. This year’s Small Business of the Year Award was presented to With All My Heart Child Care, Inc. of East Freetown. With All My Heart Child Care, Inc., is a woman owned, small business located in East Freetown. After having her first child, owner Doreen Fouquette decided to stay home and open a family daycare center.

The 2015 Small Business of the Year Award was presented to With All My Heart Child Care, Inc. of East Freetown. She and her husband reconstructed a section of their home and in 2002 they opened the doors of With All My Heart Child Care, Inc. The daycare quickly grew and two years later Continued on page 4.

It is expected that he will assume his new duties no later than August 3, 2015. Mr. Kidder currently serves as the President & Chief Executive Officer of the Scottsdale (AZ) Area Chamber of Commerce. He will be replacing Roy Nascimento who left the Chamber in January 2015. Employers who participate in the Connecting Activities Partnership program take the time to plan tasks for the interns to complete that will improve their skills throughout the duration of their internship. At the beginning and end of the student’s internship, employers complete reviews through the Massachusetts Work Based Learning Plan, an online diagnostic

ATMEL is a leading manufacturer of tech components such as microcontrollers and touch-technology semiconductors, many of which were on display in the blue trailer. The trailer also showcased parts used in smart watches and cell phones.

Saint Anne’s Hospital earns “Straight A’s” for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group’s “Hospital Safety ScoreSM”

Some of the patient safety initiatives implemented recently at Saint Anne’s Hospital include reduction of patient falls; early recognition of sepsis (a system-wide immune response to a bacterial infection) to reduce complications; improving transitions in care from the hospital to home or other health facilities; and the elimination of unnecessary alarms to reduce “alarm fatigue.” Saint Anne’s “alarm fatigue” initiative has been recognized by The Joint Commission as a best practice.

2015 SouthCoast Women’s Forum a Success!

By Lynne Mastera, Chair of the 2015 SouthCoast Women’s Forum Planning Committee Every year the committee works hard to find interesting and inspiring topics along with the professional business women leaders to relay their own personal stories. They also have an opportunity to network and share some of their own personal stories. This year the committee decided on a panelist discussion for our forum. Our panelist group was moderated by Lee Blake, who shared some of her own inspirational story.

At 40 years, WJFD 97.3 FM is the largest Portuguese radio station in North America and the only FM 50,000 watts in New England, transmitting in Portuguese 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. “We are an entertainment radio station with live DJ’s everyday, from 6 am until 11 pm, playing the latest Portuguese and world music hits,” explained Paulina Arruda, Co-Owner of WJFD.

SouthCoast Jobs Fair Data The First Annual “SouthCoast Jobs Fair” took place on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at the Tripp Athletic Center on the campus of UMass Dartmouth. The “SouthCoast Jobs Fair,” a regional partnership between the Chamber, Greater New Bedford Workforce Investment Board, Greater New Bedford Career Center, UMass Dartmouth and Bristol Community College, helped connect over 115 local, regional and national employers with over 1,000 local job seekers and students. Employers offered internships, entry level jobs, jobs for those with a GED or high school diploma-equivalence, and those requiring as much as a doctorate. The chamber recently polled all 117 participating employers asking a series of questions leading to data that indicates the SouthCoast Jobs Fair led to nearly 600 regional hires in full-time, part-time or seasonal jobs. Ian Abreu, the chamber’s manager of workforce and business development, said the April 8 job fair on the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth (UMD) campus featured more than 1,000 attendees and more than 100 employers, offering positions that spanned a diverse range of industries and professional experience. Responses from employers have indicated the fair led to hires for 380 full-time jobs, 107 part-time jobs and 100 seasonal jobs, in addition to 383 paid or unpaid internships, Abreu said.
