SouthCoast Businesses Nominated for 2017 APEX Awards

On April 13, 2017, three local organizations that have impacted our local economy and contributed to the betterment of the community will be honored at the prestigious APEX Business of the Year Award Luncheon. Each year, the Chamber and a committee of selected representatives from partnering companies collect nominees from business owners, employees and area residents who highlight a local business for demonstrating creativity and imagination in the development of their company while exhibiting growth and contributing to society in a positive, proactive manner.

The Chamber’s APEX Award is growing into one of the most esteemed honors to receive in the SouthCoast region. Out of dozens of nominations, the selection committee will have the daunting task of narrowing down the impressive list to a single large business, small business and a nonprofit/educational institution. First Citizens’ Federal Credit Union announced recently that it will relocate its downtown New Bedford branch from 271 Union Street to 468 County Street. Chamber Welcomes Bristol Community College Student Intern

The New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce would like to welcome Bristol Community College student Brieanna Wood as the newest addition to the Chambers team as an intern for the spring semester! Brieanna is a Communications major in her last semester at the college and will be assisting the Chamber throughout the spring 2017 semester. With an 10

extensive background in customer service and management, Brieanna will be contributing her skills to help the Chamber in facilitating future events and daily procedures. Brieanna will be working with Chamber staff on a number of projects including the Annual Membership Directory, the Home, Health & Wellness Show and the Chamber’s newest program, Shop Local – Save Now!, a key tag program that will be available for purchase to receive discounts from local retailers. Rebecca Laliberte, Communications Manager at the Chamber says “We are excited to have Brieanna with us for her internship through BCC. She has already demonstrated a high level of professionalism. We hope to provide a valuable learning experience and help her develop skills she will utilize as she continues to pursue her education and career goals. ”

Brieanna is a 2014 New Bedford High School graduate, where she became interested in TV production and advertising during her junior year. With indecision pressing her and the urge to stay local pertinent, she decided to enroll at Bristol Community College until she could narrow down what direction she wanted to head in. “It’s the best decision I could have made for myself ” Brieanna states, “I have been able to provide for myself an affordable education that has allowed me to explore the different career options my major has to offer.” Brieanna will be graduating from BCC this June and is hopeful to continue working in her field of study. With an interest in all things PR, news writing and reporting, event coordinating and broadcasting she is enthusiastic about starting a career and eager to learn what it takes to work in the professions mentioned above.
