This week... From the editor Winter is upon us as I’m sure you’ve noticed from the cold mornings and the fact it is almost dark at 5pm. But there’s no reason to lock yourself away inside for the next three months, with plenty on offer in our region. June is Hunter Valley Wine and Food Month with many fine restaurants and wineries offering special deals. Visit the Hunter Valley Wine & Tourism Association’s website www.winecountry. com.au for the full list of events. The hugely popular Blue Water Country & Blues Music Festival will be held on the June long weekend (June 6-8) in and around the Nelson Bay area. Of course, while you’re out and about you need to be rugged up against the weather. Our fashion editor, Kayla Stephenson, has selected some of the latest styles in jackets, jumpers and cardigans to help you along the way if your wardrobe needs updating. Our special guest for the ‘My favourite things’ section this week is NBN weatherman Gavin Morris. I was pleased to see the new wildlife arena open at Blackbutt Reserve. Having visited on several occasions with my children I know what a wonderful asset the facility is with plenty to keep the youngsters entertained for hours.

Mrs Galaxy Australia, Candice Sherriff will soon head to the USA.
It’s never to late to follow your dreams

Newcastle’s Candice Sherriff is preparing to take the stage in Florida, USA for the Galaxy International Pageant this August. Merewether’s Candice Sherriff, 37, claimed the title of Mrs Galaxy at the pageant’s national final which was held on the Gold Coast earlier this year. “It really is a dream come true” she beamed. “This is something I’ve wanted to do since I was 18, 20 years later, here I am.” Born in Zimbabwe, Mrs Sherriff started entering the pageant world when she was just 13 years old with the main attraction being the glamourous prizes to be won. “In South Africa pageanting is huge, even though there aren’t really a lot of them” Described as very outgoing growing up, Mrs Sherriff aspired to be a TV presenter and saw pageanting as a way to get into that niche. After entering in Miss South Africa at the age of 18 Mrs 4
Sherriff left the pageant world and embarked on a journey to London where she studied for her psychology degree at nights through Birkbeck University. Twelve years later she set her sights on Australia, bringing with her, husband Gary and two boys Josh, 8 and Luke, 6. Having moved to a new country and worried about having to make new friends and start fresh she decided to once again look into pageants. “When I became a Mrs, I didn’t think there were really any pageants in that category” Coming across Mrs Galaxy she was attracted to the pageant right away as it had exactly what she was looking for, “getting involved in your community, meet people, and raise money for charity.” By the end of March, Mrs Sherriff had met so many people
and been involved in so much she didn’t think she had to go to the competition as she “already felt like a winner.” While she never expected to win, the moment came where they announced the winner and her name was called on stage, Mrs. Sherriff recalls she was just too busy thinking, “ I wonder who’s won, I wonder who’s won?” Claiming that the win was just such a big and lovely surprise, Mrs Sherriff is also the very first Mrs Galaxy Australia to be crowned. While preparing for the international competition in August, Mrs Sherriff has been staying active in the community through aiding in fundraising and charity work. “I really hope that I can motivate more people to follow their dreams” - Kayla Stephenson
On Monday, May 25th, Lake Macquarie Council voted to accept the proposal for the Lake Macquarie Transport Interchange. After almost 17 years of waiting for approval the connection between Glendale and Cardiff has been given the thumbs up, with Mayor Jodie Harrison agreeing to accept the tender from Daracon Contractor Pty Ltd for $26 million to start stage 1, Section 1 of the construction. Stage 1 which has been broken into two sections will over time see the installation of 2km of new road, improved intersections and pedestrian crossings along with updated cycling and bus facilities. A new bridge to be located over winding creek and another over the rail line connecting to Pennant Street. The newly approved Section 1 involves extending and realigning Glendale Drive with new traffic lights, as well as extending Stockland Drive in Glendale. It will include a roundabout and a new bridge over Winding Creek. The extension of Stockland Drive will provide a new access to the Hunter Sports Centre and Stockland Shopping Centre in Glendale, while also relieving the traffic congestion. Stage 1 is expected to commence in late June. - Kayla Stephenson

Beaumont Street turns red for Salvos
H
amilton’s Beaumont Street was a sea of colour as local businesses joined in the fun for the The Salvation Army’s “RED-iculous” Salvos Red Threads fundraiser launch. The Salvos Red Threads
campaign is an opportunity for businesses to put their own unique spin on a red-themed activity to raise money for the Red Shield Appeal. The launch in James Street Plaza saw dancing from the Hunter
Valley School of Performing Arts, a street performer on stilts as well as live singing. “It’s was great to see Beaumont Street raise the bar this year and businesses getting into spirit of the Red Shield Appeal,” Salvation Army spokesperson Emma Lalic said. “Salvos Red Threads is an exciting campaign and we were blown away with the support of over 100 businesses across Newcastle - getting involved and ‘going red.’” “It’s fantastic that small and large businesses can come together to help us raise much-needed funds, supporting those people in our community who need assistance.” “You could really feel the community support and excitement in the street - with dancing, singing, drums and even a man on stilts dressed in red!”
Newcastle councillor Declan Clausen was on hand to present the inaugural Salvos Red Threads Trophy to Kim Argueta from Sight Savers Optometrist in recognition of the business’ efforts. The national fundraising goal for the Red Shield Appeal doorknock is $9.5 million, forming part of the overall Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal which aims to raise $74 million across Australia this year. Funds raised through the Red Shield Appeal go directly to support vital Salvation Army programs and services which are relied upon by vulnerable Australians every single day. The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Doorknock Appeal will be held this weekend, May 30 and 31. Visit www.salvos.org.au for more information - Paul Monforte

A lack of concentration, described by coach Rick Stone as not being up to NRL standard, early in the second half saw the Knights defeated 31-18 by the Brisbane Broncos at Hunter Stadium on Monday night. The Knights led 18-6 shortly before halftime after tries to Tyler Randell, Korbin Sims and Joey Leilua, but that was where the scoring ended for the home side as the Broncos crossed in the 39th, 41st and 46th minutes to take control of the match. Captain Kurt Gidley sat out the second half after sustaining a head knock, while Clint Newton was a late addition to the 17man squad after Joseph Tapine was ruled out with a back injury suffered in the warm-up.

They recognised there were a number of Council cultural facilities such as the Performing Arts Centre, libraries and Marthaville Arts and Cultural Centre already operating in Cessnock.

SHE’S GOT HER MOJO WORKIN’
Having wowed all and sundry with her 2012 eponymous solo effort – an album that bristled with a dark noir panache and deep explorations into blues, jazz and soul territory, former Newcastle musician, impresario and raconteur Mojo Juju, is back with her highly anticipated follow up – Seeing Red/Feeling Blue and quite a change in sonic direction, to boot. This time around, Juju has augmented the sound established on the debut with some refreshing electronic and pop touches helped along, in no small part, by the addition of longtime friend and producer Ptero Stylus (Diafrix/Mantra). While such a pairing may, at first, seem odd, if you’ve heard the funky punch and strong soul vibes of the current singles A Heart is Not a Yo-Yo and They Come and They Go, you’d know full well that this is a musical partnership that definitely works. “It’s always a bit of a nerve-wracking experience putting an album out, you know when you’re in the studio bubble, you never know how people are going to react to the new stuff until it’s out there – but , thankfully people seem to be linking the sounds on the new record so that kind of makes it all worth it,” Juju told Newcastle Weekly. “Anyway, I approached Ptero Stylus to do the record and I was so stoked that he was able to come on board – I learned so much from him in the studio – he comes from a much more contemporary background whereas my style is a lot more rooted in the traditional side of things and in a way I guess we both met in the middle to create something that is a lot poppier in some places, a lot more electronic and with a little bit more soul. At the end of the day, for me, it was about stepping outside of the comfort zone and I think we did a pretty good job.” Juju, who first cut her teeth in the beguiling and formidably talented Newcastle-based outfit Mojo Juju and the Snake Oil Merchants, added that while she had always felt a tad uncomfortable around the studio, it was one of her former Snake Oil alumnus, Erling 'The Duke’ Gronhaug, who helped instill a sense of comfortability in the studio. “For me it was always about live performance, and I kind of tended to back away from the
studio side of things,” she said. ‘But The Duke taught me a hell of a lot about the recording process , songwriting and arranging which made me feel more comfortable about taking risks in the studio. In fact even now I find myself asking’ what would Duke do?’. I owe him a lot.” While label boffins and music wags are always quick to pin a genre tag on an artist,
Juju said that she never wants to be painted into a corner. “I guess I’m the kind of artist that likes to test herself and see where things can be taken,’ she said. “In fact, Id say that I’m terrified of being stuck in one genre.” Mojo Juju – Cambridge Hotel – Friday, June 19 - Stephen Bisset 11
time out A CRAIC-ING GOOD TIME There’s no denying that, like the majority of Australia, this neck of the woods loves comedian Jimeoin. It makes sense, then that the funnyman’s current run of dates will keep him in the region for the majority of next month until he jets overseas for a month at the Edinburgh Festival. “It’s been ages, around two years in fact, since I was last up that way so it’s good to redress that balance with a run of shows. I’ve always done quite well in that neck of the woods and I’ve also spent a bit of time playing on your golf courses and surfing at your beaches – it’s a great part of the world,” Jimeoin told Newcastle Weekly. While he was reluctant to divulge what we can expect from his latest show Jimeoin…Is It?...other than to say it will be “bloody funny”, it’s pretty much a free kick that the show will be redolent with his absurdist take on the foibles of modern life, his wry and on point observational humour. But when it comes time to find out what tickles Jimeoin’s funny bone, the man himself said schadenfreude was always a great source of chuckles.
“People falling over never really fails to crack me up – I don’t know what it is about it, but it’s pretty hard not to laugh at someone going for a bit of a topple.” While the majority of Australia has been laughing along with Jimeoin’s absurdist humour for decades now, he said he was loath to analyse what it was about his lackadaisical and meandering style of comedy that resonates so well with punters. “First and foremost I’d like to think it was because I’m funny, but you can’t overanalyse these things,” he said. “You know – it’s interesting dissecting a frog for the first time but after a while it loses its appeal. I guess I’m just fortunate that people have been able to put up with me for so long.” Jimeoin – Tuesday, June 9, Muswellbrook Workers; Wednesday, June 10, Wests Lambton; Saturday, June 13, Cessnock Leagues; Monday, June 18 Maitland City Bowling Club; Tuesday, June 19, Nelson Bay Wests; Wednesday, June 20, Belmont 16s. - Stephen Bisset

Good on the outside – Great on the inside CRAZY DIAMOND SHINES ON When it comes to rock and roll behemoths, there are few that loom as large as Pink Floyd. From their early psychedelic explorations with original frontman Syd Barrett, through to audacious, expansive and downright iconic albums such as The Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall and Delicate Sound of Thunder, Pink Floyd are, quite rightly, regarded as one of the most successful and groundbreaking bands in recent memory. While they may’ve shuffled off this mortal coil with their swansong The Endless River last year, there’s no denying that their legacy will live on for some time to come. To celebrate the band’s enduring legacy and the 40th anniversary of their iconic Wish You Were Here set, the good folks at CC Entertainment will be bringing their annual Great Gig In The Sky show to Lizotte’s this weekend. Featuring the talents Mitch Anderson (The Voice), Simin Meli (The Voice, Widowbirds) , up-andcoming singers Mark Da Costa, Natasha Stuart and Jess Dunbar and a stellar 7-piece band fronted by creative director Joseph Calderazzo, this show promises to
be a beguiling ‘Floydian’ slip’ into the band’s lush back catalogue. “The shows, so far, have been going really great – more Floyd fans than you can poke a stick at,” Anderson told Newcastle Weekly. “We’ve got a knockout band, and a great lineup of talent like my good mate Simon Meli and Mark Da Costa and we’ll be taking the audience on a pretty wild trip through the Floyd catalogue so expect to hear the likes of Time, Us and Them, Comfortably Numb - it’s a real blast to the a part of this.” Anderson, who made it to the live finals of the 2013 season of The Voice said that Pink Floyd had always loomed large in his musical education. “Being a muso pretty much all my life, Pink Floyd was always there as one of the top bands in my mind,” he said. ‘The first time I heard Dark Side of the Moon, I was just blown away and, ever since I’ve been a huge fan of the work of both Roger Waters and Dave Gilmour because the music these guys make isn’t your normal music. It’s a genre all of its own.” The Great Gig in the Sky – Lizotte’s Lambton Friday, May 29. - Stephen Bisset

While Jamie Hutchings’ solo output over the last little while has eschewed the muscular and brooding indie rock that was synonymous with his outfit Bluebottle Kiss, in favour of more mellow, acoustic tones, his latest outfit, Infinity Broke, sees the frontman dipping his toe back into louder territory. After releasing their debut long player, River Mirrors last year, Infinity Broke are back with the follow-up Before Before which Newcastle punters will have a chance to hear, up close and personal, when they take to the stage at the Stag and Hunter this weekend. “We’re in Brisbane right now, doing some radio at 4ZZZ so it’s all systems go at the moment,” Jamie Hutchings told Newcastle Weekly. “It does feel pretty good having the record out there, though – it’s always an interesting period when

you’re just about to put out a record, it’s almost like giving birth – stepping into the unknown but at the same time really exciting.” Hutchings said that while people familiar with his work with Bluebottle Kiss would find flourishes of his former band in Infinity Broke, he added that this time around, things were a little bit more left of centre. “Compared to the work I’ve been doing over the past five or six years – the solo stuff that was coming from more of a folk base – Infinity Broke is a lot more visceral,” he said. “There are moments there that sound a little bit like early Bluebottle Kiss stuff, but it is a lot more experimental with a real wild, kind of unhinged element underpinning it all.” Infinity Broke – Stag and Hunter Hotel, Friday, May 29. - Stephen Bisset

So, if it’s high-octane Aussie rock and roll that floats your boat, then this one should be high on your list. - Australia’s Legends of Rock – Edgeworth Sport and Rec, Friday May 29. Free.

BALLARD BRINGS THE FUNNY Despite the fact that his latest show Taxis, Rainbows and Hatred is based around an experience he had with a homophobic Newcastle taxi driver, don’t go thinking that comedian Tom Ballard has sworn off our city forever. “No, I love Newcastle - you guys always give a great time and my good mate [comedian] Rhys Nicholson is from Newcastle so it’s all good,” Ballard told Newcastle Weekly. “Also, if I have any more run-ins with homophobic cab drivers, it would probably make for a great sequel to the show anyway.” Ballard, who cites the likes of Dave Hughes, Fiona O’Laughlin, Rove McManus and Jerry Seinfeld as early influences, will be making a return trip to Newcastle as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow which will see him crack wise will fellow rib-ticklers Joel Creasey, the UKs Lloyd Langford, Kiwi funnywoman Urzila Carlzon and MC Dave Callan. “I am so excited about this because the line-up is just insane and we’ll be doing

three nights in Newcastle so there’s no reason for people not to come check it out.” After saying goodbye to the heady world of breakfast radio in 2013 (he hosted the coveted triple j breakfast slot with copresenter Alex Dyson) Ballard has been busy concentrating on honing his already formidable stand-up talents and will be taking his comic stylings to the joke-telling Mecca of the Edinburgh festival. “Yeah, I’ll be going over there in August which is pretty exciting,” Ballard said. “It is a little bit nerve-wracking but moreso because I’ve looked at my budget and concluded that I’ll probably be spending a lot of time in a ball crying. But, seriously, it’s going to be fantastic as it’s a great chance for me to become a much better comedian because I’m over there for, like 22 days and I’ll be playing something, like 6000 shows.’ The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow – Civic Theatre, Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 7. “We ended up collecting quite a few great songs with the covers idea and I ended up thinking that we should release it – it’s pretty low-fi sounding but there’s a real eclectic set on there, everything from Nina Simone and Edwyn Collins to Pulp and Glen Campbell.” Rob Snarski – Lizotte’s Lambton, Thursday, June 4. - Stephen Bisset

While it certainly trod a difficult path to release, the debut solo record from Rob Snarski – frontman from seminal Melbourne rockers The Blackeyed Susans – has been kicking its fair share of goals in the 12 months since hitting the streets. Called Wounded Bird, the album has caused pundits to throw around terms like “the perfect solo album’ while Snarski has been hailed as “one of the great romantic singers” in the album’s wake but as the songwriter told Newcastle Weekly, the album almost never came to be. “It was such a difficult birth,” Snarski said “It was originally intended to be the follow-up to an album I did with Dan Luscombe [The Drones] called There Is Nothing Here That Belongs To You, there were many hurdles like corrupted hard drives

MEET THE ARTIST: LOCHLAN HOWARD When did you first know you wanted to be a professional artist? Since a very a young age I have always been creating things. I grew up always wanting to take art somewhere and fortunately I am starting to exhibit my work. What inspires you? The built environment has been my biggest influence in recent years. My current studies of architecture has pushed me to appreciate my structural surroundings in my artwork. My friends and family support me, inspiring me to push myself. What has been your greatest achievement? In 2013 I was very fortunate to have my HSC body of work selected to be displayed in ArtExpress at the Gallery of NSW which was an incredible experience. More recently I held my first professional show and was lucky to sell all works.
Ekka Clowns
What would be your advice for budding artists? Hard work and experimentation. As a young artist I realise it is very difficult to create art that is unique, but I feel consistently trying new mediums and techniques broadens your ability to develop a piece of work with unique value and character. Describe your work. Joyous. My work is a celebration of the built environment. Although we have the ability to progress structurally, we continue to recycle suburbia as a representation of achievement in a materialistic society. Lochlan Howard is exhibiting in the group exhibition Six Mix at Newcastle Art Space, 28 May -14 June, opening this Friday 29th May from 6pm. You can view his work online at lochlanhowardart. com or at facebook.com/ lochlanhowardart.

FILM REVIEW
It’s a busy week at the cinema. Disney’s Tomorrowland imagined around the ever popular world in the famous theme park stars George Clooney. Follow an optimistic teen and a former boy-genius on a dangerfilled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory. In the aftermath of a massive earthquake in California, a rescuechopper pilot makes a dangerous journey across the state in order to rescue his estranged daughter. San Andreas is the latest thrill ride to hit the big screen. After disappointing in her lacklustre road trip outing, Tammy, last year, Melissa McCarthy is back in top comedic form in this espionage romp. McCarthy, teaming up again with director Paul Feig, who used her talents so well in The Heat and Bridesmaids, stars as Susan Cooper – a CIA analyst who is the eys and ears for Bradley Fine (Jude Law), the Bond-esque super-spy. After international arms dealer Rayna (Rose Byrne) declares that she has uncovered the identities of all the top CIA agents, it is up to the unknown and untested Susan, to stop Rayna selling off a rogue nuclear weapon. While McCarthy is hilarious here, one of the biggest surprises was Jason Statham who is given free rein to flex his comedic muscle for a change, while the supporting

Frank has now transferred his passion and creativity into his own venture, EXP. Restaurant at Oakvale Wines in Pokolbin. Who or what was it that first inspired your passion for food? When I was at school, the class I was best at was hospitality. I had a really good teacher, Mrs Holloway. She taught me quite a lot and my first job when I was 15 was at the café in Mount Broke Wines. They really nurtured me and I was able to run the kitchen after being there for a year and a half. I got to see what it was really like and being able to actually cook rather than just being in the washing up bays inspired me. Can you give us a bit of a rundown on how you got started in the industry? After the job at Broke, Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley had just opened and I decided to leave school in Year 11 and take up a job with them and spent my whole apprenticeship there. What would be your advice to people wanting to break into the food industry? They’ve got to have a keen interest in it, whether they are young or old. For young people, if 22
they like cooking, if they cook at home with their parents they should come and work in a kitchen. I invite young students to come out here for work experience and if they enjoy that I encourage them to get a job in a kitchen. What is it about the lure of the kitchen that keeps you so passionate? Just creating dishes, especially now that I’ve got my own kitchen and being able to do exactly what I want with the food and the restaurant as a whole. With EXP, it’s about the experience. When people walk through the door I want them to notice the tables and then sit down to a beautiful meal on hand-sculptured wood plates which are all crafted to suit the food. Do you have a favourite dish to prepare or does that changes on a regular basis? It definitely changes, but the hot ones right now are the lightly-cured trout which I’ve designed like a pasta dish, so it’s ribbons of trout and ribbons of gnocchi covered in sauce of citrus
butter and fennel. Also the blue cheese served in a brioche bun. It’s quite a surprise – it gets to the table and people say “Oh no, I ordered the cheese”. It’s the brioche bun filled with blue cheese custard with honey over the top. If there’s one thing people need to try when visiting your restaurant, what would it be? I’d just encourage them to try something new, something they don’t eat at home. My wife used to hate raw seafood, but after going out dining for a while, now she’ll eat sashimi because there are chefs who know how to handle that type of food. I think it’s also important for chefs to try new things themselves, to get an appreciation for different foods which could lead to new dishes. EXP. taste A MASTERCLASS IN FLAVOUR Having been in business for more than 30 years, Nara Thai and Uncle Raja’s Curry House certainly knows its flavours. Providing an interesting mix of Thai and Indian cuisine this is one curry house that needs to be on the top of your ‘to visit’ list. Making my inaugural visit, the first thing that struck me was the huge menu featuring all of the classic Thai and Indian dishes you would expect to find in any self-respecting Thai or Indian restaurant – red and green curries, butter chicken, kormas, vindaloos, Tom Yum Gai and masaman and Penang curries. After much ‘umming and ahhing’ over the extensive menu, I decided on the spicy chicken from the Thai side of things and I was in no way disappointed. A healthy portion of thinly sliced and perfectly stir-fried chicken sat invitingly in a ridiculously moreish sweet chili sauce that balanced the spice of the chili and inviting sweetness perfectly. The addition of fresh vegetables, onion, shallots and cashews provided even more depth of flavour and texture making this dish a real stand-out. My dining partner, deciding on the iconic massaman curry, said before ordering that a Thai restaurant’s massaman is his

yardstick by which all other dishes should be judged. After taking one bite of this rich and hearty dish, he remarked that it was the best he’d had in quite some time. The beef, beautifully slowcooked to tender perfection was literally falling apart while the curry itself was in no way watery like some lesser versions can be had been allowed more than enough time for those complex flavours to develop into something truly outstanding. Aside from the fantastic array of food on offer, on Friday and Saturday nights, the venue also comes alive with some of the best musical talent the region has to offer – making Nara Thai and Uncle Raja’s Curry House as fun and vibrant as the menu. PICK OF THE WEEK The Commitments Saturday, SBS1, 9.30pm, M (1991) A young Irish Brian Epstein wannabe aspires to take a group of working-class Dublin musicians (“the world’s hardest working band”) to the world stage. A fantastic account of backstage banter, squalor, sex appeal and raw energy, and most importantly, soul music. Director Alan Parker presents wonderfully rounded characters (most of them played by newcomers, including Angeline Ball as Imelda, above) and lets the music and attitude speak for itself. A start-to-finish powerhouse.
Friday
Silver Linings Playbook
The 40-Year-Old Virgin Tuesday, PRIME7, 9.45pm, MA15+ (2005) This entertaining romp stars Steve Carell (left) as Andy, a man who has had many successes in life, but has never gone all the way with a woman. He has just fallen in love with Trish (Catherine Keener), but doesn’t want sex to complicate their relationship. His mates want to spice up his life a bit, so they concoct a few schemes to help Andy. Though it is all about sex, this doesn’t have the crassness of American Pie and the like. Carell brings a naive charm to Andy, and the greatest laughs are his.
Sunday, GEM, 8.30pm, M (2012) Pat (Bradley Cooper, left) is down on his luck to say the least. After spending time in a mental health facility, losing his wife and his house, he’s living back with his parents (Jacki Weaver and Robert De Niro) and trying to get his life back on track. When he meets the equally messed up Tiffany (Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence), his clear plan to win back his wife gets complicated. To say this film is a mere romantic comedy is to do it a great disservice. It is sweet, yes, but also moving, heartbreaking and with bitingly funny scenes. The topnotch cast make this a must-see.

With Mercury retrograde and Neptune in Pisces you may be tempted to throw caution to the wind, but resist this with all your might until you have discovered which way the wind is blowing in a matter that is dear to your heart. Stay alert and read between the lines.
When facing difficult decisions, sometimes the best approach is to consider all sides to the question, discuss your priorities and then take a break from it all. Your sense of perspective will return and you will be able to clarify the direction you’re seeking, which is forward.
On the personal front, life could throw up some unsettling changes and people you thought you knew well might act completely out of character. Simply dust off your adaptability and go along with their plans as they’re likely to be far more exciting than those you had in mind.
Your common sense and discipline instil a confidence in you that others don’t have and you will be expressing your individuality in ways that will make them envious of your foresight. Watch your step at work or you could easily find yourself in shark-infested waters. Be assertive but cooperative.
TAURUS APR 21 – MAY 21
LEO JUL 23 – AUG 23
SCORPIO OCT 24 – NOV 22
AQUARIUS JAN 21 – FEB 19
Friends and associates sometimes have the impression that nothing ever worries you. However, unless you let them know what’s going on, you run the risk that you will never hear the potentially helpful solutions and answers they could suggest. So let them in and don’t block them out.
At home or work, flare-ups amongst family or colleagues could occur unexpectedly. It’s possible that resentments have been brewing beneath the surface and are erupting now. On a positive note, this is an ideal time for sorting out differences and getting life back on an even keel.
At home, you could require understanding and patience to ride out a couple of stormy days with partners, loved ones or children. Those closest to you might want to force matters; if so, leave them to their own devices while you deal with issues one step at a time.
VIRGO AUG 24 – SEPT 23
SAGITTARIUS NOV 23 – DEC 21
PISCES FEB 20 – MAR 20
It would be wise to back all your computer files up as Mercury Retrograde is famous for glitches. This is definitely not the ideal time to force an issue at work even if you believe it’s justified. However, if you must be frank, breathe deeply and remain calm.
Professional partnerships formed now are certain to do well. Nobody knows better than a Sagittarius that timing is everything and that occasionally you must trust your instincts and do what you feel is right. If colleagues or loved ones are being stubborn, be patient and they will come around.
If you’re in the process of a renovation or buying a home, be mindful there could be some confusion owing to Mercury running retrograde. Look at matters practically and don’t allow your heart to rule your head or you could make a major mistake. Listen to your intuition.
GEMINI MAY 22 – JUNE 21 You could be feeling that any tense discussions in recent weeks have been to no avail. However, be patient as the planets are about to come to your assistance and soon you will discover that other people will either be forced to put or shut up.
