Tameside Jobs Fair On Friday 10 May Jigsaw Homes Group hosted its fourth annual Tameside Jobs Fair attracting 476 job seekers from the borough and surrounding areas into Cavendish 249. The event ran smoothly with 26 companies and organisations on the day all looking to recruit residents into vacancies with over 200 jobs on offer. Others provided information and guidance on employment, health and skills support services available locally . The Neighbourhood Engagement Team organised the event in partnership with Tameside Council and Job Centre Plus. Opening speeches were delivered by Deputy Group Chief Executive Brian Moran and Tameside Councillor and Jigsaw board member Gerald Cooney, who explained the importance of these events continuing to take place in Tameside and providing real life-changing opportunities for people and reducing inequalities. Exit feedback gathered from the job seekers was captured and residents described the event as ”Very informative” and “a great day” with “very helpful staff and employers” to give just a few examples. Away Day - 28 June 2019 This year’s Away Day will be held at Event City, Manchester on Friday 28 June 2019 from 12 noon until 4pm for all employees except casual staff. Please note attendance is mandatory unless you have a pre arranged appointment or have already booked annual leave. If Friday is your non working day, please discuss with your line manager to arrange to change your non-working day so you can attend the event. The event will include a three course sit down meal, employee awards, a look back at the last year and updates about the business. We now need to know who’s attending and if there are any dietary requirements etc. If you haven’t already done so, please remember to submit your information by completing the survey at https://www.snapsurveys.com/wh/s.asp?k=155602932692 and provide the necessary details as soon as possible. All employees are required to complete the survey, even if you are not attending, for example if you have pre booked annual leave. Please note the deadline for completion is Tuesday 21 May 2019.
Employee Awards – Nominations are now being accepted During the employee away day which will take place on Friday 28 June 2019, we will be presenting employee awards. There are five award categories linking into the Jigsaw Values & Behaviours. This is your chance to recognise the efforts of your fellow colleagues, so why not make someone’s day and nominate them. Please include within your nomination the award you wish to nominate the person for, the full name of the person you are nominating and their department (if known) along with a few lines explaining why you wish to nominate the employee. Please send all nominations to peopledevelopment@jigsawhomes.org.uk The deadline for initial nominations is Friday 24 May 2019. Once initial nominations have been considered all employees will be able to vote for the shortlisted employees. The categories are:• • • • •

Customer satisfaction: The results are in! The end of the financial year is a busy time for our organisation and it’s also a good time to review and reflect on the past 12 months and assess and improve on the ways we deliver our services to residents. Capturing tenant feedback is essential if we are to get an understanding of where we’re delivering services well and also what we’re not doing as well. This allows us to replicate successes whilst also making changes and improvements. Anita Birchall wins Inspiring Women award Fresh off the back of her team’s win at the UK Housing Awards last week, Head of Threshold Anita Birchall won the ‘Here Come the Girls’ award at the Inspiring Women Awards on Friday 10 May. This category recognising those men, women or organisations who are challenging systems that don’t work for women, promoting gender informed products, services or closing the gender pay gap. Anita’s work in establishing and running Threshold’s Housing First service for women ex-offenders has been key to her winning this well-deserved accolade. We’re hoping the Housing First team can continue their winning streak on 23 May, when they attend the Northern Housing Awards where they are up for ‘Innovative Approach to Tackling Homelessness.’

#MentalHealthAwarenessWeek 13-19 May 2019 Did you know 300,000 people a year leave the workplace because of mental health problems? The focus of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week is body image. In the last year 30% of all adults have felt so stressed by body image and appearance that they felt overwhelmed or unable to cope. That’s almost 1 in every 3 people! Body image issues can affect all of us at any age and directly impact our mental health. However there is still a lack of muchneeded research and understanding around this. As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, the Mental Health Foundation will be publishing the results of a UK-wide survey on body image and mental health. They will look at body image issues across a lifetime – including how it affects children and young people, adults and people in later life. They will also highlight how people can experience body image issues differently, including people of different ages, genders, ethnicities and sexualities. Body image and self-esteem directly influence each other—and your feelings, thoughts, and behaviours. If you don’t like your body (or a part of your body), it’s hard to feel good about your whole self. The reverse is also true: if you don’t value yourself, it’s hard to notice the good things and give your body the respect it deserves. How to get involved? Circulated with this week’s News Piece is a survey which you can complete in order to assess your own self-esteem when it comes to body image. A body image event hosted by Tameside and Glossop Mind and featuring stalls by various partners including Be Well Tameside, Action Together and the Health & Wellbeing College is also taking place in The Street at Cavendish 249 on Tuesday 14 May. This is free for all employees and residents to attend. There is also a national ‘body image challenge’ taking place on social media, which you can be a part of. Simply post on social media a picture of a time or a place at any point in your life when you felt comfortable in your own skin, using the hashtags #BeBodyKind and #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek. It can be a photo of yourself or something else that reminds you of the moment.

The Brian Kidd Recreational Facility On 9 May Miles Platting Housing and Grounds team supported an event to honour Manchester City Assistant Coach Brian Kidd renaming the St. George’s Community Grounds (which Adactus Housing Association manages) to “The Brian Kidd Recreational Facility”. Brian Kidd grew up on Rome Road opposite the recreational area and has continued to support the local Collyhurst community including attending the reopening of the newly refurbished St George’s Community Centre on Bothwell Road. A reception was held at St George’s Community Centre with a plaque sponsored by Adactus unveiled by Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor June Hitchen, with local residents including saint Patrick Primary School and Saint Patrick’s former Pupils. This was then followed by a lunch at Saint Patrick’s Hall for Brian’s family, former team mates, alumni and local community leaders. We will be supporting the local youth organisation YPAC in continuing youth engagement, sports and events in the coming months to make use of this valuable community space.
Round Our Way... Tickets are now on sale for Round Our Way, an event featuring performances and spoken word by Argh Kid, Peter Hook, Rowetta, Mike Sweeney and more. The purpose of the event is to raise money and awareness for the NSPCC. The event takes place at The Old Nag’s Head, Jackson’s Row, Manchester on 13 June.
