Money Matters In line with the Government’s agenda to reduce the UK’s national debt, the funding for Higher Education courses has been cut. Up until 2012, HE institutions could charge up to around £3,300. The rest of the course fees were subsidised by the Government. Students commencing a higher education course in 2012 will have to pay the full cost of their course. Universities can now charge from £6,000 - £9,000 per annum for their courses. Tuition Fees do not have to be paid ‘up front’. All students are eligible to take out a student loan to cover the whole tuition course fee over the duration of your course. The Government Student Loans Company, Student Finance England, facilitates the allocation and repayment of loans to Higher Education students in the UK. There are a few financial packages available that could help you pay for the costs of studying: Tuition Fee Loan Covers the full cost of tuition fees over the duration of your course. Your fees are paid directly from Student Finance England to us, so no need to worry about paperwork or paying fees on time! Maintenance Loan A loan to help with living costs. Students from lower income households may be eligible for more.
08. 01780 484311 www.stamford.ac.uk
Maintenance Grant Up to £3,250 per year available to lower income households. This is free money that you do not have to pay back. If your household income is under £25,000 you will get the full grant. Households with incomes between £25,000 and £42,500 will get some. Additional Support You could be eligible for more financial support if you have a disability or learning difficulty or if you have adults or children who are dependent on you. Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) Local Education Authorities (LEAs) can award DSAs to part-time and full-time undergraduate students who can show that they have a disability, mental health conditions or specific learning difficulty which affects their ability to study. The DSAs help pay for any extra costs you have to pay as a direct result of your learning disability/ learning difficulty. The allowance can help with the cost of a non-medical personal helper, items of specialist equipment, travel and other courserelated costs.
A copy of ‘Bridging the Gap: a Guide to the Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSAs) in Higher Education’ is available from: www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance To find out how much you are eligible for, go to: www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance and use the Student Finance Calculator.
Tuition Fees For UK and EU students applying for a fulltime higher education course at New College Stamford starting in September 2012, the tuition fee will be £5,999 per annum. Fees for part-time courses may differ – please contact us for details. When to apply for Student Finance? You can apply online at: www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance as soon as you have applied through UCAS (or direct), however some students prefer to wait until they have a confirmed place. Deadlines for new students to apply are generally in April/May.
