NEW CONSERVATORY THEATRE CENTER PRESENTS
A podcast for when life goes off-script.

When we launched our audio-serial In Good Company last year the world was in the middle of an existential reckoning. A global health pandemic was raging, “45” was flailing about pre-election, and civil unrest sparked by the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis ignited a renewed call for anti-racism world-wide. Add to that, a lock-down of life as we know it along with casualties not seen since the 1918 flu contagion crisscrossed the continents.
Like so many artists around the planet we at NCTC felt an urgent call to action even though all theatres were shuttered. The question on our minds was dare we tell a story during an erratic storm that everyone was trying to weather simultaneously? There were far more questions than there were answers. We decided to lean into the questions by creating a cast of characters at a small theatre trying to figure out how to survive during highly uncertain times. The storytelling that emerged became a nimble, illuminating and surprisingly nourishing dance between fact and fiction. In Good Company struck a chord that captured the imagination of international audiences including the US, UK, EU, Asia, Africa, New Zealand, South America, China, and even the Himalayas! In these places and many others, our podcast resonated with truth, some much needed humor, and empathy. The struggles of the Bay City Theatre were highly relatable and comforting during a time when all of us were searching for a way forward. Enter Season Two. The way forward has arrived! Five brand new 20 minute episodes reunite us with our theatre denizens as they prepare to reopen in a changed world. Thankfully, this time around there are answers to some of the questions that loomed large last season. That said, the true to life situations in the continuing storylines are anything but predictable. Expect twists, turns, and many new ideas for you to ponder. Our characters, flaws and all, are still doing their best to understand, cope and lead the way. It’s great to finally be planning the return to live theatre. But it will be more than just business as usual. Our homecoming is with a refreshed sense of purpose, community accountability, and boundless imaginations pointing us toward change. I take great comfort knowing that with all of you at our side we are In Good Company.
